could i request something with a fem reader that’s of another cast from a different show of your choice, & she meets drew through madelyn. maybe they hit it off on their first meet and start texting one another almost every night. basically a mutual pine and by the end they admit their feelings. make it real fluffy!!
love your writing btw 🖤
thank you for the request anon!! The idea sparked a huge inspiration in me and I loved writing this! I definitely got carried away while writing so this is longer than most of my stuff. I added a small twist of my own and made the reader gender neutral :)
love affair
PAIRING: drew starkey x actor!gn!reader
SUMMARY: the reader and madelyn cline are co stars on glass onion. on being invited to madelyn's birthday party, the reader meets a certain someone.
WARNINGS: small mentions of anxiety, alcohol consumption, getting sick
EDITH SPEAKS: my first request! this is LONG, and this is GOOD and I LOVE how it came out!! I hope you like it too! I wasn't able to come up with a title so I decided to go with a song based title, love affair is such a good song i definitely recommend listening to it :)
Please like and/or reblog if you enjoy it 💌 feedback is always appreciated!

It's your co star Madelyn's birthday today, and she is throwing a massive party. She's invited her friends from all the shows or movies she's been casted in before, and it's safe to say you're excited yet nervous at the same time.
You haven't been in the film industry for as long as Madelyn, you did a few minor roles here and there before you landed your major role in Glass Onion alongside Madelyn. That's where you met her for the first time, and you both hit it off really well. Glass Onion is your first project which got you a lot of exposure, so before Glass Onion you hadn't been to many parties thrown by big celebrities. This is the first one you're going to, and you're determined to make it one of the best nights of your life.
You quickly get ready, wearing an outfit which looks absolutely gorgeous on you and gives you loads of self confidence. You prepare yourself to socialise with many new people and to try to make new friends. There are going to be so many other people in the film industry; who knows, you may land a deal in another blockbuster project.
Your cab pulls outside of your house and you get inside it. You direct the driver to Madelyn's house and he takes you there in under 20 minutes. Before you can even reach the party, you can hear the music a distance away from her house, which tends to overpower your nervousness over your excitement.
The cab driver drops you outside her house. You walk up to the closed door and take in a deep breathe before ringing the bell. You can hear the chattering of the people inside. The door opens and you see Madelyn on the other side. You grin widely upon her presence.
"Happy birthday beautiful!" You say ecstatically, hugging her and kissing both her cheeks.
"Thank you darling!" She says laughing. She beckons you to come inside. You walk in to see the biggest crowd of people you've seen together in a house.
You turn to Madelyn and hand her her gift. "Oh my god you didn't have to bring me one!" She says, taking it from you and hugging you again.
"Nonsense! It's your birthday, you definitely deserve to get one."
"Thank you so much. Come on, let's get you some drinks and I'll introduce you to some people." You follow her lead to the kitchen, where she gives you a drink. You thank her and take the cup from her.
"Hey Madison!" She yells out. Madison turns around and sees the both of you. She comes up to you rushing.
"Oh my god hi!" She says, smiling widely as you hug her. "It's so nice to finally meet you!"
"You too!" You say, smiling just as widely as her.
"You were so good in Glass Onion, like, come on. That's some Emmy level acting right there." You feel your cheeks slightly warm up at her compliments.
"Thank you girl, but let's talk about Kiara! She's amazing and you're so talented!"
"Oh stop it," Madison says, laughing. You take a sip of your drink as you make some more small talk with her.
"Look there's everyone else," Madelyn says suddenly, looking across the room. You see she's looking at the group of the cast of Outer Banks. You recognise all of them. Madelyn takes you by your hand and you three make your way to the bigger group.
"Hey guys!" says Madelyn, and everyone replies with a varied version of 'hello'. Madelyn introduces you to everyone, and you hug all of them one by one and make small talk with them.
You and Madelyn now walk to the only person in the group who you haven't met yet: Drew Starkey. You may or may not have found him attractive in the show.
"Hi Drew, it's so nice to meet you!" You smile, and give him a hug.
"You too! I finally got around watching Glass Onion some time ago and you were out of this world," Drew compliments. You feel flattered from all the compliments you've been receiving today.
"Oh my god, thank you! But you as Rafe is just something else. I really cannot imagine anyone else playing him. You embodied his character so well."
"Thank you so much," he smiles. You feel your heart flutter at the small motion. You both join the group, and watch everyone talk and laugh among themselves. You look on your side at Drew, and take in how pretty he looks in the suit he's wearing. You notice the earring dangling from his ear and the rings he's wearing. You feel yourself almost swooning.
Drew whips his head in your direction but before you both can make an eye contact you turn your head away. You feel your cheeks heat up when you hear him chuckle. He totally caught you staring. You down the entire drink in your cup.
"Do you need some more?" Drew asks you. "I've run out of mine too."
"Oh... yeah sure." You both excuse yourself from the group and walk to the kitchen. Drew fills both your cups and you thank him for it. You start to feel your head slightly throbbing from the loud music playing from the speakers which are right next to you and Drew.
"Hey uh Drew?" You call him out. He hums in response. "Would you like to go out in the garden?"
"Are you okay?" He asks, slightly worried.
"Yes, yes I'm fine, it's just, the music is too loud and I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed by the number of people here," you say honestly.
"Yes of course," he says. "You'll feel better if you get some fresh air." You both leave the house and go to the garden. There is a small fountain set up in the centre of the massive garden, so you and Drew sit next to each other on the edge of the fountain.
"Thank you for coming out with me," You say, feeling grateful there's someone with you to help you feel more relaxed.
"You don't have to thank me sweets, it's all fine. I'm guessing big crowds aren't your thing?"
"No, they really aren't. I haven't been around in the industry to be used to such a huge amount of people in one room. It does make me anxious."
"Don't worry about it," Drew says softly. "It takes time to get used to it all, the big crowds of people, the paparazzi on the streets, the overwhelming number of events to attend. Your mind will slowly start to feel relaxed as you spend more time in this industry. Becoming famous comes at a price." He laughs.
"Oh it definitely does," you giggle with him. You both sit in silence, the sound of the music muffled. You have already starting to feel more relaxed, and you think it's because of Drew's presence next to you.
You like this feeling.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
"Okay now I have to try this casserole, you've mentioned it atleast five times already." You laugh. Your and Drew's position has changed from the edge of the fountain to the grass on the ground. You both sit in the grass, your legs crossed as you play 20 questions.
"What can I do, it's just that good," He says proudly. To every food related question you asked him, Drew managed to give "my famous chicken casserole" as the answer.
What you both have not realised is that it's been over two hours since you both have been sitting out here and chatting. The party had started to die down in the last half hour. So many people had left, and the music was now playing at a low volume. You feel your phone vibrate, so you pull it out to see Madelyn calling you.
"Hello?" You say.
"Where are you? Did you leave?" You hear Madelyn on the other end. She sounds frantic.
"Oh no I'm outside with Drew, we're in the garden," You reply. There is a silence on the other end of the phone. In a few seconds you are met with the constant beeping, signalling Madelyn ended the call.
You hear the door open and watch Madelyn walk out to you both. "Way to go guys, you could've atleast told me you're here! I was worried when I couldn't find you inside. You aren't the kind of people who leave without saying goodbye so I knew you hadn't left for your homes, which made me a lot more nervous when I couldn't find you inside." She rambles, and then starts to breathe heavily after she finishes.
"We're so sorry Madelyn," you say, getting up from the ground. "Me and Drew got so lost in conversation that we didn't even realise where the time passed."
"Yeah, it's also getting late now, so I think we both will just leave now," adds Drew, as he stands from the ground too. You nod along his words.
"Unless you need any help inside?" You ask.
"Oh no, don't worry about that." Madelyn is quick to connect two and two together. She sees the spark between you two, and starts to feel all giddy upon the possibility of you both getting closer. "I hope you had a fun time." She smiles at you both.
You turn to look at Drew who looks at you back, both of you just softly staring into each other's eyes.
Oh you definitely had fun.
And so did he.
"We did," you say, turning back to look at Madelyn. "We'll just leave now. I'll book a cab."
"Oh no, I'll drop you," Drew pipes in.
"No it's okay, it'll be such a hassle for you. It'll only take me a few seconds to book one."
"No no, I insist. It can be unsafe to be alone with an unknown cab driver this late at night."
"He's right, he can drop you. It's best you don't go home alone." Madelyn adds.
You look at the both of them, and give in. "Okay, thank you Drew."
You both exchange your last goodbyes with Madelyn and wish her a happy birthday again before you leave her house together. Drew's car isn't parked that far from her house. You reach the passenger door but before you can open it for yourself, Drew opens it for you.
"Oh, why thank you kind sir," you say in a posh accent as you sit down. He just giggles at your reply and walks around the car to sit in the driver's seat. He starts the car and begins to drive.
You connect your phone to his Bluetooth speakers to put on some music. After searching around your playlist for a few seconds, you find your favorite song.
"Oh my god I love this one!" Drew says, bobbing his head to the beat.
"You do?" You say happily.
"Yes! Their recent album is just simply a work of art."
"Right! It's my all time favorite album! It's everything." On the drive to your house, you and Drew vibe to music and surprisingly, you both have a lot of common music taste.
Drew drives up to your house, but he just doesn't want you to leave. Not yet. This is too soon. He wants to spend more time with you, get to know you better.
But it's getting late at night. And as much as you don't want to leave either, you know you have to go.
"Drew, could we exchange numbers?" You ask, shyly. He just nods his head with a smile and gives you his phone. You put in your number and ask him to text you so you can get his.
"Thank you for the drive Drew," you say softly. You stare into his eyes yet again. There is so much you have to explore, so much more you need to know about him. He's lived a different life before you came in it, and you want to know about it all. You want to know every single thread that's been woven together to create this beautiful man in front of you.
"You're welcome," his voice just as soft as yours. You want him to stop you. You want him to tell you that he doesn't want you to leave. You want to stay with him and talk some more.
But he doesn't say anything.
You give him another smile and step out of the car and walk to your house.
Drew is controlling himself from calling your name out. Why are you getting distant from him by each passing second? Why aren't you staying? He doesn't want you to leave.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
You freshen up in your washroom and change in some comfortable clothes before lying in your bed. You hear your phone vibrate so you pick it up to see it's a text from an unknown number.
unknown number: hey it's Drew :)
You smile at the text. You quickly save his number and shoot him a text back.
you: hey :)
drew: oh you haven't slept yet?
you: nope, not sure if I'll be able to fall asleep tho, my insomnia keeps on kicking in
drew: ugh same, insomnia gets the best of me
And you both kick it off again. It's almost 3 am at night, but you're up texting Drew. You feel like you are 13 years old, and you are getting to text your first ever crush. The nerves, the skipping of your heartbeat each time Drew uses a heart in his texts all make you feel like a little teenager again.
And you love it.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
It's been almost three weeks since you met Drew, and all you have to say about this is that your life has changed for the better. He's there for you every single moment you need him; when you need someone to celebrate your small successes with, when you need a shoulder to rest your head on when you're sad, when you need someone to just listen about what's been bothering you.
In return, you love to be by Drew's side as much as you can. You try your best to reciprocate every little thing he does for you.
But one of the biggest things Drew has done for you is get in contact with one of the directors he has worked in the past, who now has casted you in his upcoming movie. The script impressed you a lot, and you're super excited to start working on it. And you just don't know how you can thank Drew for it.
"Sweets it's the fifth time today you've thanked me for it and it's only 9 am! I swear, I've done nothing, all I did was just call him up." He smiles at you, as he hands you a plate of the pancakes he made.
"But now I'm getting to act in this big movie Drew! You really don't know how grateful I am for that," you say, digging into the pancakes.
You were over at Drew's home last night to watch some Netflix together. You ended up falling asleep in between the show, so Drew carried you to his room carefully. When you woke up this morning, it took you a few seconds to realise where you are.
"I have to do something for you in return, otherwise I'll just feel guilty." You tell him.
"What? There is nothing to feel guilty about. No more talks about this okay? You and me, we're close friends, we do things for each other without expecting a thank you in return."
Friends. He didn't intend to say that, but what else can he do? He doesn't want to risk what you both have created so lovingly by admitting his feelings for you. What if you don't like him back?
Friends. Why do you feel a pang in your chest upon hearing this word? But, that's what you are right? You haven't told him how you feel about him, so that makes you friends, right?
An awkward silence falls over you two which only involves the sound of the forks and knives scratching against the plate and of you both chewing. Once you're done eating, Drew takes your plates and puts them in the dishwasher. Meanwhile you gather all your stuff and get ready to leave. You say nothing except a simple goodbye and leave his home.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
You're sitting in your room with your script in your hand as you read it and try to memorise your lines along with it. The sound of your phone ringing makes you lift your head up from your script. You see it's Drew calling you. You get slightly worried because he doesn't call you very often, you both usually prefer texting but when he does call you, it's something urgent.
"Hello?" You say after accepting the call.
"Uh... are you free?" You hear Drew's voice on the other end. Except, he doesn't sound the same. He sounds sick.
"Oh my god Drew are you okay?" You ask worriedly, getting up from your bed and finding your shoes and other things you'll need if you have to leave the house.
"Just a little sick," he then coughs, which definitely doesn't indicate to a 'little sickness'.
"I'm coming okay? Just give me a few minutes." You cut the call and quickly pop on your shoes, pick up all your stuff and leave your house.
You reach his place really quickly and rush inside. You realise you didn't ring the bell but then you remembered he's alone and sick so it's best to not disturb him from his bed.
You enter his room to see the lights switched off, the curtains drawn, and Drew's body lying under the covers. You walk up to him and carefully lift the duvet from his head. You softly gasp at how pale he looks. There are loads of scrunched up tissues lying around on his bed.
"Hey," he says, his voice hoarse as he tries to smile at you.
"Drew, bub," you say nothing else. You feel so bad for him, he must be feeling so sick. He notices your frown and lifts one of his hands up to your hand.
"Hey I'll be fine, now that you're here to take care of me," you softly chuckle at his words, as you caress the back of his palm. You lean in to press your forehead against his to see if he has a temperature. At that moment, Drew feels his cheeks heat up, and not only because of the high temperature he has.
When you feel his forehead scorching hot against yours, you quickly rush to his medicine cabinet and find the pills you need. You then get a glass of water for him. You carefully wrap your arms around his body and help him sit up in his bed. You hand him the water and a pill.
He takes the pill and you tell him you're going to make some vegetable soup for him. You go to his kitchen, find all the ingredients you need in his fridge and start to whip up the soup. You work quicker than usual, because you know you need to get this to him as quick as you can. When the soup is simmering away on the stove, you go back to his room. He's still sitting in the same position, his head leaned back against the headboard and his eyes closed.
You drag one of the chairs in Drew's room closer to him and sit down. He opens his eyes and looks at you.
"I'm so sorry for bothering you, I really didn't know who to call." He says.
"You don't have to apologise, I'm here for you always," you say softly, taking his hand in yours again and rubbing his skin just as you did before. He seems a lot more relaxed upon this gesture from you.
"You are sweets, you are always there for me. You're there for me when I need someone to talk to, you're there for me when I need someone to tell my dad jokes to."
"And you are always there for me Drew," you add. "You're there for me when I need someone to listen to my crazy theories about the movies I watch."
Drew gives you a soft smile, and you both look into each other's eyes just the way you always do, and you find yourself getting lost in them again. It's like you've found a home in those striking blue eyes.
"Sweets?" He calls you out. Your heart flutters each time he calls you that. "Can I tell you something?" Maybe it's the high temperature that he has that's making him do this, or maybe he's just tired of being just friends with you. Whatever it is, he is ready to tell it to you.
"Yes?" Your heart starting to beat faster. You have a small hunch of what he might say, but you don't want to get your hopes up just to get hurt.
"I think... I think I've fallen for you." He whispers. You look at him with your eyes wide, his hand still in yours.
You can't believe your ears. He said what you had the slightest hunch he'd say. But you didn't think you would have guessed right.
The person you fell for because he told you he will always be there for you no matter what has also fallen for you.
On the other end, Drew looks at you and tries his best to read your expression. Are you going to tell him the same, or are you about to reject him? He can't tell what's going on in your mind. He breathes deeply as he watches you look at him with wide eyes.
"I'd never thought I'd hear this but Drew, I fell for you too, so fast, so hard." You whisper back. He lets out a sigh of relief.
The person he fell for because they told him taking care of him is one of their topmost priorities has fallen for him.
You lean in and press a soft kiss on his forehead and another one on his cheek. "I'll give you a real one when you get well." You say, smiling so widely.
That night, you stay over at his place. You sleep next to Drew, his head resting on your chest as you rake your fingers softly through his hair and occasionally press a kiss to his forehead, his cheek, his temple, his chin, his nose.
He's yours, and you're his.
The world has finally fallen in place.

“Why can’t you teach us history instead of harping on the past?” Wicked … the movie (part one)
Wicked. An adjective. A thirty year old book by Gregory Maguire. A twenty year old musical by Stephen Schwartz. A present day marketing/merchandising juggernaut by Universal Pictures. And, oddly enough, the post-2024 presidential election escapist allegorical cautionary tale none of us quite realized we would need. (And here my money would have been on Joker: Folie à Deux to fill that…

The Lottery I
Tumblr media
~3.7k words
From me: I thought I would close out 2024 with a mini-series. I'm hoping for shorter parts but I should be able to post on a regular basis (Mondays). You should see MANY similarities to my favorite show. I have been planning this one for over a year. I really hope you enjoy 💕
Warnings: angst (?) fluff
Summary: Small towns have the biggest romances and the best view of the moon.
Tumblr media
“I don’t know how you ended up there,” Bailey shook her head.
“Bails,” she laughed. “I Googled it. It’s cute.”
The little town was adorably cute. The kind of place where the Christmas-hating CEO female lead in the movie would fall head over heels for the place in a month because of the small-town charm. It was about thirty minutes outside the city but with traffic it could take up to an hour. It was quaint. The exact kind of place she could envision her little dream.
“Your house is good?” Bailey asked. She nodded, flipping the camera to show her the little place she found to live in. Two stories. But the second floor was small. A bedroom, a bathroom, and a small room for storage. Maybe in the right light it could be a small office, but it would be better holding all her books. The bottom floor was open. Living room, dining area, and a kitchen. Down the hall was another bathroom and her bedroom. Right now, it was filled with boxes and no clear markers for any of the rooms. Her furniture was misplaced—the table in the living room, the TV on top of it, the couch was near the kitchen, and the lamps were atop the counters in the kitchen.
It wasn’t perfect, but it was home.
Moving in was second to her priorities. So the boxes would stay, her clothes haphazardly falling out of boxes, the iron on top of the island in the kitchen to get the wrinkles out of her blouses. “Neighbors are good?”
“I’ve only met Edith and David. They’re about sixty-five years old and hilarious. Edith is insistent on having tea by the end of the week and David wants to set me up with his grandson.”
“I can’t imagine you outside the city,” Bailey sounded wistful.
“It’ll be good for me to be away from all the big lights. I missed the stars... and the moon,” her voice was filled with fondness. Like the moon was her old friend she hadn’t seen in a while.
“We could see the moon in the city,” Bailey reminded her.
It wasn’t just the moon, it was the stars, and silence that the city never allowed. “It’s not the same and you know it.”
“You know babe...” Bailey trailed off. “You look... happy.”
She was. Really happy. The kind of happiness that couldn’t be faked because she was supposed to be happy. The kind of happiness that would make anyone jealous. And why shouldn’t she be happy? She was young, basically fresh out of college, ready to start her own business, and do everything she wanted on her own.
“I am happy,” she nodded and looked at her best friend through FaceTime. “I know everyone thinks I’m crazy. Try not to let them be too mean to me. I’m... I’m good,” she promised. “This is good.”
“You know,” Bailey grinned and shook her head. “I think you’re right.”
*
She wore her lucky dress—the one that she is certain got her a scholarship—and chose a pair of flats over heels because in her quick self-tour of the town she noted the brick sidewalks were likely to take out her ankle. She made sure every single strand of her hair wasn’t out of place. She wanted this to be a good impression. All her books and shows told her that small towns were lovely, but she was an outsider. It was possible that they wouldn’t love a newcomer and so she didn’t want to make it seem like she was changing everything.
But since it was her first night in her new home, there was nothing to eat. Nor to cook with even if she wanted to. Maybe if she had a loaf of bread, she could find her toaster in one of the boxes. Moving on her own was tough but she was proud of herself. Another check she could mark on her to-do list.
Her first order of business was securing her business. However, that couldn’t be done on an empty stomach. She locked the door to the little home she now owned. The trim needed a coat of paint, and she desperately needed to buy a lawn mower. Some of the windows needed to be replaced. She tried opening one of them and nearly threw her back out. The bushes in front of the little porch needed to be trimmed or taken out altogether.
But it was home, and it was lovely. She was excited to do it on her own. It made her feel proud.
Her family was far away. Honestly, it was for the best. They thought it was a terrible idea for her to move, maybe because they couldn’t depend on her any longer. If she thought too long about it, she got upset. But this was good. She was doing what her grandma believed she could do. What her grandpa wanted her to do.
With a family far away, her place was filled with boxes. Hardly anything was unpacked. It was a miracle she found her lucky dress but perhaps that was why it was so lucky. With the distance between them, it was easier to ignore the group chat. Easier to not feel obligated to help her family.
They’re adults, honey. They’ll figure it out.
She hoped her grandma was right.
Her friends were still in the city. Completely shocked she left the hustle and bustle for a small-town place. Their lack of support or what they passed off as worry made her nervous all the same. How would it survive? But she researched the perfect place and took plenty of time setting up everything she needed so she was ready to go when she graduated.
The only thing she wished could be different, was that her grandparents got to see her.
*
The main part of town felt like a city. But way friendlier. People shouted in the middle of the road. Kids ran across the road to the school. There were very few cars but even the ones present parked illegally and the officer strolling the sidewalks didn’t pay any mind to it. It was adorable. It felt like she was in a Disney movie, and she wanted to sing.
The center green was being set up with seats and banners. People were on walkie-talkies directing more items about the area. The space was warm and cozy. Like where she could spend the day reading in the grass and have a picnic with herself or a friend.
God, she hoped she made some friends. It seemed possible. Everyone was so nice. They all knew each other. That was evident. It was so comforting, exactly the change she wanted and needed, and she prayed they wouldn’t hate her for trying to bring something new to their little place.
As her stomach reminded her once more of its presence and emptiness, she approached the diner on one side of the main street. Squished between the post office and a shoe store. Someone was exiting as she opened the door, so she gestured for them to exit before she proceeded. “Thank you, darling,” the man tipped his hat to her.
With one deep breath, she entered.
It was like she was the new girl at school. The second she crossed the threshold of the diner, everyone stared at her. There wasn’t a voice to be heard, the only sound coming from behind the counter in the kitchen. “Uh... hi,” she swallowed. Quietly, she made her way to the counter and situated herself at the end of it away from everyone else.
Sure, she wanted to be part of the community and wanted to be liked, but she didn’t want to force it. The place continued to be quiet, although the murmuring began. No doubt everyone whispered about her. “No newcomers lately, I guess,” she mumbled under her breath and pulled out her folder of paperwork to go over it again.
You’re going to crush it! Bailey’s message read. She smiled gratefully, feeling her heart slow. She was wearing her lucky dress. It was going to happen. She was going to be happy no matter what.
“Shit!” It was paired with the distinct sound of something shattering. She turned directly to the sound as did everyone else in the place and she was on her feet immediately. It wasn’t anything major, a coffee mug on the floor.
“Jesus, honey, watch it!” It was an older woman who scolded her husband with a light thwack on the arm.
“I didn’t mean to, Alice!”
“Harry!” Someone called.
“Jus’ a second,” the voice was from the back, low, almost like it didn’t want to be heard. He must have been cooking or something because there was a commotion in the back behind the kitchen door. She didn’t think much of it because she was worried that poor Alice and her husband were going to get hurt picking up the broken shards or slip in the mess of spilled coffee on the floor.
“I can help,” she offered and crouched near the older woman—Alice—as she struggled to grab the pieces. “Here,” she grabbed a rag off the counter even though she had never been there and it wasn’t her place to do so. Gently she pushed the broken pieces and coffee into a neat little pile sopping up the mess as best she could.
“Well, aren’t you sweet,” Alice chimed. “Thank you.”
“Happy to help,” she smiled politely.
“Did you just move here?” She asked. Perhaps that would satiate the whispering.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Where are you living?”
“Oh... um... Oak Street,” she stammered. It probably didn’t help her newness that she stammered. But her new address was new; she was still getting used to it.
“Oh, Holliston’s place! It’s a lovely home,” someone called from across the room.
“Y’don’t have t’do that,” it was the same voice that called from the back but now right next to her.
“Oh...” Her heart skipped a beat as she looked up at him. Did time seem to stop? That couldn’t be right. She wasn’t going to have a crush on the first guy she met on her first official day as a resident of the small town. “I don’t mind,” she said quickly looking up at him from her crouched position. “Happy to help and...” She stopped speaking again as he stared at her. His eyes were pretty, even if he looked grumpy. His mouth was set in a frown, and she noticed that once more everyone stopped speaking. “Sorry,” she said and stood, scooping the mess as best she could in her hands. Coffee dripped from the rag into the puddle at her feet. She could feel the splatter on her ankles, and she was nervous to look if she had ruined her shoes. It didn’t bother her, but she wasn’t sure she’d have time to head home and change before she went to the town hall.
Harry held out the tray for dirty dishes and she placed the rag, broken pieces of mug, and all into it. He dropped it on the counter about two spaces down from where her folder and purse remained. “Are you okay, ma’am?” She asked softly placing a gentle hand on her arm in a comforting kind of way.
“Alice, Ed, y’okay?” Harry—she presumed—was quiet. It almost rubbed her the wrong way that he repeated her, but he knew them, and she didn’t. So, she returned to her seat quietly after offering one more smile to Alice.
“All good, Harry,” Ed said in return.
Harry went back around the counter and fiddled with the coffee pot. He refilled a new mug and brought it over to Ed.  When he returned behind the counter he stood in front of her silently. Waiting. Not offering a word nor question.
Harry looked to be roughly her age. Handsome. If this was David’s grandson, she would have reconsidered his offer. But his scowl was to be desired. Made her uneasy. She wondered if this was how he always was or if it was something about her.
But she wanted to be liked. People generally didn’t dislike her. It would devastate her if he did. As grumpy as he seemed, she wasn’t going to shy away from her own personality. “Do y’want something?”
“What’s your favorite?” She asked glancing from the menu to him.
He rolled his eyes. “I don’t have a favorite.”
She blinked. He worked here. Did he own it? That would be crazy, he was so young. But she was young and about to own her business too. So who was she to judge his age? “How can you not have a favorite?”
“I like it all,” he shrugged.
“You seriously don’t have a favorite?”
“Since I own the diner,” he was explaining it like she was a toddler, “everything is good.”
“Well...” she took a deep breath. It wasn’t that she was one of those people who assumed everyone would like her, but it was... different to work for friendliness. Bailey told her she had the kind of face that would work wonders in sales. Everyone just opened up to her.
But not Harry. Harry was stoic as could be. It barely looked like he was breathing. Other than the irritation in his eyes, he had a really nice face. Smooth skin, angular jaw, and just pretty features that were probably wasted on someone so grumpy. But she could see something flicker in his eyes. Something that she wasn’t sure he wanted anyone to see which is why it was merely a flicker.
Was this grumpy man amused? By her?
“...Do you have a recommendation then?”
“Anything. It’s all good,” he was clearly over this exchange.
She thought she could get him to budge but it didn’t seem that way. This was the fast track to nowhere. Not the impression she wanted to make on her first official day in town. Sighing, she glanced at the specials board. “You have peach pancakes?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have white chocolate chips?”
Harry sighed, exasperated with the conversation, and she hadn’t even ordered her coffee yet. “Yup...” he was staring at her like this was going to kill him. Or he was going to kill her.
“Can I have one of each? Peaches and white chocolate chip?”
“What?” He seemed surprised. Which was interesting because surely it couldn’t have been crazy. Peaches and white chocolate chips had to be popular if he had them. He shook his head. “No.”
“Why not?” She frowned.
“Because s’extra work t’make a whole batch of peachpancakes and chocolate chip. One or the other.”
Maybe it was his tone or her frustration. The nerves of heading to town hall after breakfast. The piss-poor impression she was making at the extremely local diner where everyone seemed to know Harry. Even though he was grumpy they still ate there. It was obvious this wasn’t their first day being there. They still called out for him when the mug shattered even though she was more than capable of helping.
But she didn’t want to take no for an answer. Maybe if he had placated her or smiled. Or if he just didn’t look at her like she was the bane of his existence she wouldn’t have pressed. “But... I don’t want one or the other. I want one of each.”
“Get ‘em mixed together or don’t have ‘em,” he shrugged.
“But if I get them mixed together, the peaches will sink to one side or slide off all together. The chocolate chips always sink to the bottom. So the ratio in each bite will be off. I’ve tried it before; it just doesn’t blend well.”
“If I make y’one peach and one white chocolate chip, then all m’ratios will be off. I’ll have t’purchase different quantities of peaches and chocolate chips.”
“That seems a little dramatic for one plate of—"
“S’my diner! Jus’ order what’s on the menu or order four pancakes.”
“That’s absurd! I doubt I’ll even eat one whole pancake!”
Harry swallowed hard, his jaw flexing tight. Briefly he looked at the ceiling and then back at her. His voice was quieter when he spoke. “Order what’s on the menu or don’t order at—"
“Fine! Two peach pancakes!”
Honestly, she has no idea why she was arguing in the first place. It was idiotic and childish but there was something about the grumpiness that was off-putting and made her uncomfortable. Perhaps it was solely because he didn’t seem to like her, and she was trying really hard to fit in and he was the only person she had met so far that was close to her own age. If she could get him to like her, then maybe she wouldn’t be friendless and lonely.
With another large sigh (like it was painful for him to be standing near her) he rolled his eyes and headed to the back to make her breakfast. She wouldn’t be surprised if he poisoned them.
The diner was still quiet, and she could feel eyes flicking over to her repeatedly, their gazes heating her up with knowledge she was being watched. To keep her cool, she continued flipping through her paperwork folder and scrolled on her phone.
About ten minutes later, Harry returned holding her plate. It was practically silent again. The show that ensued was not forgotten by the other customers. Harry failed to hide his interest in her paperwork and failed to hide the fact he was reading whatever was in front of her. It didn’t bother her, honestly. She wanted to be an open book. Especially in a small town and especially with the guy that looked beyond irritated with her.
Trying again was insanity. But she was nothing if not one for perseverance. “Do you know what time the town hall opens? I tried to find a time online but—"
Harry snorted. “Town Hall doesn’t do online. S’whenever Sutton gets there t’unlock.”
She blinked. Small towns. “When’s that?”
“Usually before nine-thirty.”
“Usually?”
Harry shrugged, placing the plate in front of her. She could smell cinnamon and maple. Of course, the peaches were starting to caramelize as well and so it really looked utterly delicious. “Sometimes he forgets his alarm. Then s’before ten-thirty.”
She raised her eyebrows. “Alright,” she nodded. “Hey,” she called quietly as Harry turned to leave. “Do you do tabs? I’m probably going to be here every morning before work. It’s fine if you don’t. Just... figured it would easier.”
Did it get even quieter? Harry had a way with sighing. Heavily. Like talking to her and thinking were the two greatest and hardest tasks he’d ever been given in his life. Her eyes quickly darted around the place. There were enough tables to seat about twenty people plus five seats at the counter. It was busy—not crowded or full, but busy. It was just after the morning commute group had left; she had to imagine. The hustle of the nine-to-five crowd was long gone. “Sure,” he shook his head. “Every Friday.”
She was certain she didn’t imagine it that time. The entire place was silent for another ten seconds before the low murmur picked up again.
“Okay, thank you. I just... moved into town and I had no food at my house.”
“Whose house?”
“I’m sorry?”
“Whose house did y’buy?”
“Oh... uh... the Holliston’s?” Was that the name someone said a few moments ago? It had to be because no one corrected her, and it was apparent everyone was listening to her to talk to Harry.
“Nice couple,” she supposed she got it right then. “Do you want coffee?” He asked.
Was this him warming up to her? It was interesting. It wasn’t exactly warm, but it wasn’t arguing. Which she liked. Although arguing with him was kind of... fun in its own way. But she needed a friend before she argued with him for hours on end.
“Oh, yes,” she nodded quickly. “Please. Thank you.” Was it hot in there? Harry was attractive—even if he was grumpy. A sour face usually turned her off immediately. But with Harry... it didn’t seem so grumpy anymore. Especially now that he stopped arguing with her. The crease between his eyebrows disappeared. His frown turned to a more neutral expression. She swore that flicker of amusement was back again. “This is a really cute town,” she remarked.
Harry ignored the comment as he poured her a mug of steaming coffee and placed a little plate of cream and sugar packets beside it. “What brings y’here?” He asked. She did hear his skepticism like maybe he was going to kick her out before she unpacked if she wasn’t good enough for the clique-y village.
“Oh,” she swallowed. “I’m hoping to open a book shop.”
Harry tilted his head at her, surprise all over his face and she couldn’t figure out for the life of her why that would be. “Oh?”
“Yeah.”
He nodded. Approval? Was she in the club? “Alright, well... welcome, I guess. Let me know if y’need help with the water at y’house. It always gave the Holliston’s trouble in the winter, and I’d have t’go over and fix it. Don’t want y’pipes t’freeze.”
That was it. He walked away. She watched the grumpy, attractive man tend to the tables, cleaning, and serving all by himself. The others were patient. There was no rushing to get to work like it was Starbucks and everyone quietly waited their turn. There wasn’t a lot of small talk with Harry, but people smiled at him. Like they knew him from the time he was a baby. Maybe they did.
She hoped he would warm up to her. It would be nice to have a friend like him.
Turning to her breakfast, she cut into both pancakes stacked on top of one another, brought a bite of the two little pieces to her mouth after drowning it in enough maple syrup to make the man look at her suspiciously from across the room.
There was no way someone was that concerned about ratios of one patron. He could be grumpy all he wanted, but Harry was dramatic too. (Even if it was way more syrup than she needed, and he probably had a point in worrying about syrup—especially if she was going to be there every day.)
But as the bite hit her tastebuds, she had to look down and see it for herself.
One pancake was peach and the other was white chocolate chip.

Edith Finch Timeline
So I'm still organizing my theories (honestly they're more like a list of unanswered questions than a coherent theory right now) but I think my timeline is pretty much complete now that I've had a chance to go back through the pet cemetery and add all those in.
I do some wild speculating about Odin here that has no canon basis, just spinning ideas.
Things to notice- Just how many deaths happen on or very near birthdays. Not always the birthday of the person who dies and not every time, but suspiciously often.
The pets almost seem to fill in the years when no one human died? Like everything in this game it's nothing definitive enough to base a solid theory on, but it is odd.
TIMELINE
1439 - Earliest possible beginning of the Finch Family Curse based on the Odin viewmaster reel, as this is 500 years prior to the invention of the first viewmaster.
1445 - If the Odin viewmaster is the Model E made in 1955 (which I think it is), this is the start of the curse instead. Not much is happening in Norway during this period, but Vlad the Impaler was at the top of his game this year?
~About 7 generations of Finches dying horribly happens here.~
1880 - Odin is born. At some point between now and his death he writes "The Mysteries of Death and the Thereafter" and "Joining the Great Majority" which both appear to be books about the afterlife.
1896 - Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration begins with the Belgian Antarctic Expedition and won't end till after WWI. Expeditions are marked by depression, starvation, insanity and scurvy. Many famous expeditions are made by Norwegian teams. Odin is 16.
1911 - A Norwegian expedition is first to reach the South Pole. The British Scott expedition chasing the same goal are lost. Odin is 31.
28 July 1914 - WWI begins, Odin is 34. Norway, "The Neutral Ally", remains neutral on the war but due to economic pressure from Britain commits its merchant marine fleet (one of the largest in the world) to Britain's service. Half the fleet is sunk and 2000 seamen are killed. If Odin was a sailor, he likely served. Alternatively, he may have been one of the wealthy merchants who profited greatly during the war. He clearly has a great deal of money to burn by 1937.
June 17 1915 - Sven is born.
April 8, 1917 - Edie is born.
1935 - At some point between now and Dec 1937, Edie and Sven marry and Sven takes Edith's last name.
1936 - Ingeborg and her newborn Johann Finch die in an unknown manner. Odin is 56, Edie is 19, Sven is 17.
Jan 7 1937 - Odin sets sail for Washington.
Dec 1937 - Arrival on Orcas Island, death of Odin at 57. Molly is born, on the boat? In the Old House? Sven and Edie build the cemetery, and then the house.
1938 - Churpy the budgie joins the family.
1939 - Invention of the viewmaster, earliest point the Odin story could have been recorded.
Sep 1939 - Sep 1945 - WWII. Sven was 24, and may have served or been drafted.
1940 - Burpy the house finch joins the family.
1941 - Churpy dies.
1947 - Christopher the goldfish joins the family.
Oct 31 1947 - Halloween Baby Barbara
Sometime between 1937 and 1947 - Molly's unnamed gerbil joins the family.
Dec 13 1947 - Molly dies of apparent poisoning after eating mistletoe berries, on or very near her 10th bday. She relates hallucinating having become several animals, most notably a cat. Christopher the fish dies shortly after. The fate of her unnamed gerbil is unrecorded, as none of the unattributed headstones are of the right age, but presumably it dies eventually.
1948 - Burpy dies at 8.
April 25 1950 - Sam and Calvin are born.
Aug 26 1952 - Walter is born.
1952 - Lurpy the Cockatiel joins the family.
1955 - Viewmaster Model E released- If this is the one used for Odin's story, that puts the beginning of the curse at 1455.
1956 - Lucy the dog joins the family.
1959 - Bailey the (???) joins the family.
Oct 31 1960 - Barbara dies, allegedly murdered, on her 16th bday. Her boyfriend Rick disappears the same night. The version of her death shared in the game is notably extremely unreliable and raises numerous questions. Rick is seen in a leg cast using crutches. Walter is 8, Sam and Calvin are 10 and notably absent from reported events.
Sept 23 1961 - Calvin dies at 11 falling from a cliff. He is seen wearing a weathered and heavily autographed leg cast. His model shows him with a black eye and several cuts.
1962 - Zoe the (???) joins the family.
1963 - Lurpy dies at 11. (Cockatiels have a life expectancy of 20-25 years)
Aug 26 1964 - Sven dies on Walter's 12th bday, while making a dragon shaped slide. He's 49.
1968 - Walter enters the bunker. He's 16. Durpy the Dove joins the family.
May 7 1968 - Dawn is born.
1969 - Lucy the dog dies.
June 20 1969 - Gus is born.
1970 - Zoe dies
1971 - Purply the Budgie joins the family.
1974 - Coco the (???) joins the family.
Jan 12 1976 - Gregory is born
Dec 7 1977 - Kay files for divorce after arguing with Sam about the curse.
Dec 19 1977 - Gregory drowns in the bath a month before his 2nd bday
1978 - Shadow the cat joins the family.
1979 - Purply dies at 8.
1980 - Rob the Bearded Dragon joins the family. Bob the Snake joins the family.
1981 - Durpy dies at 13.
1982 - Oliver the rabbit joins the family.
Nov 8 1982 - Gus dies, crushed by debris from a storm during Sam's wedding to an unnamed woman.
July 16 1983 - Sam dies, kicked off a cliff by a deer. Dawn is 15.
1984 - Bob dies at 4.
1985 - Daisy the (???) joins the family.
1986-87 Dawn goes to India, meets Sanjay.
1988 - Shadow the cat dies.
Dec 27 1988 - Lewis is born. Furpy joins the family. Tucker the (???) joins the family
1989 - Oliver the rabbit dies.
1991 - Rob dies at 10. Furpy dies.
1992 - Zurpy the Owl joins the family.
May 19 1992 - Milton is born.
1993 - Charlie the cat joins the family. Daisy dies.
1994 - Durpy Jr the Dove joins the family.
1995 - Zurpy dies at 3. Schatzi the (???) joins the family.
Feb 14 1999 - Valentine's Baby Edith. Lowest tide in a thousand years allegedly allows Edie to access the Old House. At some point between now and Nov 2010, three unnamed gerbils join the family, and then die.
Feb 22 2002 - Sanjay dies in an earthquake, eight days after Edith's 3rd bday, Dawn and children return to Finch House. Dawn writes "To Teach and To Learn" at some point in the next few years. At some point between now and 2010, Dawn probably finds a stray cat and names it Molly.
Oct 23 2003 - Milton disappears.
Late 2003 to Early 2004 - Dawn searches for Milton, eventually gives up and seals the rooms for unknown reasons.
March 31 2005 - Walter leaves the bunker and dies, allegedly hit by a train. There are several strange inconsistencies surrounding the circumstances of his death.
2006 - Durpy Jr dies at 12.
2009 - Schatzi dies
Nov 21 2010 - Lewis dies of apparent suicide one month before his 22nd bday.
Nov 28 2010 - A week after Lewis's death, Dawn informs Edie they are leaving the house. After Edie attempts to give Edith a book containing a story about their family which Dawn violently rips away, Dawn flees the house with Edith immediately, leaving Edie and all her belongings behind.
(Molly the cat is not mentioned in regards to the move, so she may have died by this point, but she is not listed in the graveyard, so it's possible she was simply left behind. There is a taxidermy calico in Sam's room, but Sam was dead before Molly could reasonably have joined the family, so this is unlikely to be her. A cat is seen outside human Molly's room in 2016, which may prove she's still alive- but she'd be around 14 years old. An unlikely age for a cat abandoned outdoors for 7 years.)
Nov 29 2010 - Edie is found dead by nursing care workers, and may have killed herself by combining alcohol with her medication, intentionally or otherwise. She's 93, the only member of her family to live longer than her father, who died at 57.
Dec 5 2010 - The date on Edie's tombstone, a week after when she supposedly died.
May (around the 12-18th?) 2016 - Edith becomes pregnant.
Oct 12 2016 - Dawn dies of a chronic illness at 48. Edith is 16 and about 6 months pregnant.
Oct 13 - 19 2016 - Edith returns to the Finch House at 22 weeks pregnant.
Jan 18 2017 - Edith dies in childbirth a month before her 18th bday. Christopher is born (possibly named for Molly's goldfish?).
2027? - At some point in the future, a young Christopher returns to the house, which has changed since the last time it was seen. He is wearing a cast.
A note on unrecorded pets- There are additionally 5 (possibly 6?) unmarked pet graves in the cemetery. One of the blank stones presumably belongs to Rob the bearded dragon, who has a memorial in Edie's room but no gravestone. One is marked as a fish and another is a rabbit, with no names or dates. One is a knocked over and unreadable sign of the same kind used for the birds, indicating it may be an otherwise unrecorded bird. There is also a statue of a frog- the knocked over sign may instead refer to an unrecorded pet frog, or the frog statue might be a separate gravestone, or simply a decoration. This leaves one blank headstone with no indication of what might lie beneath it. Let's assume it's a mass grave for gerbils.

Those in italics have five or more pieces of usable visual, written, or audio propaganda already. If you have any visuals like photos or videos, or if you have something to say in words, submit it to this blog before round one begins on June 25th!
If you don't see a name you submitted here, it's because most or all of their career was as a child/they were too young for the cutoff, their career was almost entirely after 1979, or music was something they only dabbled in and are hardly known for. There are quite a few ladies on the list whose primary career wasn't "recording artist" or "live musician," but released several albums or were in musical theater, so they've been accepted.

Rafe watches you from his position on the edge of your bed, as you walk to your little cabinet of all your favorite vinyls.
"What are you in the mood for?" You ask, crouched in front of the cabinet as you look carefully at all the records you've collected.
"Anything," he says, falling on his back on the bed. He looks at your ceiling as he hears you select a record and carefully place it on the record player.
The soft instrumentals of the slow song you chose start to fill in your room as you let out a satisfied sigh. If nothing can calm you down when you're feeling anxious about something, you know this song can.
You walk towards your bed and take Rafe's hand in yours. "Come on!" You say, trying to pull him up but he doesn't budge.
"Noooo!" He whines, and your grip on his hand becomes stronger, but he's so much stronger than you will ever be so you aren't able to pull him up even now.
"Dance with me, please," you pout, letting go of his hand. He looks at you for a few seconds, before getting up from the bed.
"Fine," he sighs, as you beam at him. He stands up right in front of you, and wraps his arms around your waist as yours are around his neck. He starts to move you both to the slow - yet serene melody of the song. Your eyes close as you lean in your head against his chest. He pulls you in closer, his arms around you wrapped so tight.
Rafe continues to sway the two of you to the song. You hear him softly hum to the lyrics of the song, his voice bringing you an instant peace. You feel his chest hum against your ear, and the small melodic vibrations help you relax.
You lift your head up to look in his eyes, and you lean your chin on his chest, not breaking your gaze. He looks at you with his soft, blue eyes, which never fail to remind you of the cornflower petals.
Rafe starts to lean in closer to you, and you feel your heartbeat pick up pace. But instead of moving back, you don't budge, and before you know it, his lips are pressing against yours.
So soft, so heavenly.
They stay on there for just a second, as you feel his plush lips against yours. Their sweetness sticks to you and you feel empty just as he pulls back. You look at him with wide eyes, not able to process what just happened.
"Did you just kiss me?" You whisper, both of you now standing completely still, but the music still keeps on flowing from your player. Rafe looks like he's at a loss of words, and he slowly starts to back away from you, his arms leaving their place around you.
"I'm- I'm so sorry I... I shouldn't have-" He stutters, avoiding eye contact with you as the heat rises to his cheeks, making them burn red. You are shocked at the sudden change in the mood between you two, as Rafe is trying to find words to explain himself, and has started to make his way out the door.
"I'm such an idiot I'm so so sorry I shouldn't have done that..." He says, his eyes still not meeting yours as he quickly gets his jacket from your bed.
"Rafe," you say, but he doesn't listen. His ramble continues on, on how he should've asked you before he did it, how you probably hate him now and never want to see his face again, how he messed up everything you have and now nothing can go back to being what it was.
"Rafe, look at me!" You say, louder, and he instantly shuts up and his eyes immediately look towards you. With wide eyes and a heavy breath, he watches you make your way to him. You move your hand up to gently touch his face, and start to caress his cheek with your thumb. His facial expression relaxes and his breathing slows down.
You say nothing, and only close the gap between you two by pressing your lips on his. You pull back for a second, but instantly go back in, pulling him closer to you as your lips move against his, your eyes fluttered shut at their sweet, sweet taste.
You gently pull back and look up at him through your hooded eyes. "Stay here?" You mumble, your eyes now on his lips as you crave them on yours back again.
He nods as his response, and leans in to kiss you again.
