Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to The Guardian. Discussions between the two clubs are still ongoing over the structure of the transfer fee, although it is understood Dortmund will accept less than what they had previously hoped for as part of the deal. Respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed Man United want to pay the full fee in instalments with add-ons. The Italian journalist reports Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are keen to sign him for an initial €100m (£90m) which would break the transfer record for an English player. While the Red Devils are yet to reach an agreement, it is claimed the German giants could accept a scenario that would see the Old Trafford club pay the figure over the next few seasons for the 11-cap England international, with an additional €20m on-top for performance-related bonuses. As far as Solskjaer is concerned, Sancho is his top transfer target this summer, as United have been monitoring him for some time. The right winger was Dortmund’stop scorer last season, having scored 20 goals and supplied 18 assists in all competitions (viaWhoScored). Negotiations have reportedly intensified in recent weeks as the Bundesliga challengers want to find a resolution as soon as possible in order to look for a suitable replacement in the summer. Ed Woodward is expected to break the English transfer record for the second time during Solskjaer’s time in charge at the Theatre of Dreams, having signed Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £85m last year. United qualified for the Champions League after clinching third place in the Premier League table on the final day of the season which has improved their chances of signing Sancho in the summer as this has increased their sizeable transfer kitty. Securing Champions League qualification has also played a key part in persuading the 20-year-old to return to England. The former Manchester City academy graduate will be expected to compete with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood for a place in the starting lineup. While there is still some way to go until the transfer window closes in October, Dortmund have set a deadline of August 10 to sort out a deal for Sancho before they start their preparations for next season. The board will have to act quickly as a result if Solskjaer wants to get his man. United fans, do you think Ed Woodward will sign Sancho this summer? Let us know down below! EPL: Woodward loses patience with Solskjaer
Tumblr media
Pressure is mounting on Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, losing patience with him and the squad, questioning his methods, the UK Mirror reports. Solskjaer is fighting to save his job, after a miserable start to the season, which has seen United pick up just nine points from their opening eight Premier League games. Their embarrassing 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Newcastle saw them drop to 12th in the table, with a home fixture against table toppers, Liverpool next. Woodward handed Solskjaer a three-year deal in March, but is growing increasingly concerned by the team’s form, as United sit just two points above the relegation zone. It is believed that a heavy defeat to Liverpool, could see Woodward and the owners the Glazers to pull the plug on the experiment, particularly with several key players including Paul Pogba, Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all set to return after missing the Newcastle tie. Manchester United have been handed a major boost in the race to sign Jadon Sancho this summer as Borussia Dortmund are already planning for his departure. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that Sancho is the signing he needs to rebuild the Red Devils midfield. In the same week Man United entered ‘advanced‘ talks with Dortmund, The Telegraph revealed the Germans are stepping up contingency plans in preparation for his exit in the summer. The Bundesliga challengers have now turned their attentions elsewhere as they try to sign a new right winger before the start of next season. United have not met Dortmund’s asking price of £100m so there is still some work to be done. However, Michael Zorc, the German club’s sporting director, is putting plans in place for Sancho to depart as he expects negotiations to continue throughout the summer. Man United have been trying to sign Sancho for three years now, but it seems they are now one step closer to bringing him back to England. Sancho, 20, is the club’s top scorer this season, as he has scored 20 goals in all competitions so far. The England international famously left Manchester City to join Dortmund in 2017 after refusing to sign a new deal at the Etihad. According to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, the Yellow and Blacks have earmarked Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica as the player they feel can replace Sancho in the summer. Admittedly, there is still a long way to go, but the fact Dortmund are already lining up a replacement should give Ed Woodward the boost he needs to get a deal done. Whether or not United will improve their £80m valuation remains to be seen, as Woodward has warned the club’s summer spending may be limited in these uncertain times. Failing to sign Sancho in the summer would be a huge blow for Solskjaer, as he has made it his mission to bring him to Old Trafford at all costs.
