Calliope had been searching the infirmary cupboards when the med staff returned, and naturally, they asked her what she was doing. Caught in the act, she feigned innocence, a tearful insistence that her stomach was aching. After a physical exam, they handed her over-the-counter (ugh) pain medication, a cup of water, and offered her a bed across from another patient. Calliope made a show of getting pathetically, whimperingly into the flimsy bed.

When the attendant had gone, Calliope cleared her throat, sat up in bed, and fixed her hair. Her wandering attention fell to the girl in the bed opposite. "Hey, I bet they've got you on something good. Intravenous, or is there a pill you could cheek for me?"
