European car market: electric cars are gaining momentum
Despite a slight slowdown, the European car market grew by 6% in November. A total of 1.07 million new cars were sold. Sales of electric and hybrid models continued to grow, while sales of diesel cars continued to fall.
The slight downturn in the European car market is nothing to worry about. According to figures released by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) on Thursday, December 21, 1,075,756 new cars were registered in the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom in November. This represents a 6% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
However, the trend is well below the double-digit growth recorded in previous months. In October, for example, sales were up 14.1%. Overall, the European car market grew by 15.6% in the first eleven months of this year compared to the same period in 2022, with 11,799,842 units sold.
Electric cars are outperforming diesel cars in Europe
This performance was mainly driven by battery-powered models. In November, sales of new electric vehicles in Europe rose by 4.9% to 182,982 registrations compared to 174,480 a year earlier. Their market share thus reached 17%.
Simple hybrids performed even better, with their sales up 27% to 299,748 units. Their market share reached 27.9%. Demand for plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, fell by 14.1% in November to 91,070 vehicles.
Pure diesels (internal combustion, excluding hybrids) performed equally poorly. Diesel engines, always avoided, accounted for just 114,715 sales in November, down from 128,464 last year. That represents a drop of 10.7%, bringing their market share down to 10.7% - almost seven points less than the market share of 100% electric cars.
Gasoline models continue to hold their position in the European market, with 358,164 delivered, 4.4% more than last year. These internal combustion engine vehicles are still the majority in Europe, with a market share of 33.3% in November.
In cumulative terms since January, gasoline cars' market share has risen to 36%, with 4.25 million new cars sold. Hybrids are next with 31.12 million units sold and a 26.4% market share, followed by 100% electric cars with 1.81 million units and a 15.4% share of total sales. Diesel cars account for 12% of total sales with 1.42 million vehicles.

Earthday is fight day
If your "green" project relies on the same practices of land theft, resource extraction, and labor abuse that brought us to this point - then the grifters supporting it are just another variety of climate change deniers. Squat the trees while we still got trees. Defend what you love.

Does the HumVEE qualify for the tax credit?
Nope it absolutely does not.
“Great American road trip is going to be electric”
It’s gunna be a long trip, and it costs about 70-90 bucks worth of electricity to fully charge its battery.
Can an average income individual afford the cost of an electric vehicle?
God. No.

In addition to a large number of other reasons, I just dont really see the point of getting a driver's license unless I already have a car, and I dont see the point in getting a car because thats just another unneccesary expense that I don't have money for to not only buy, but to upkeep (and I know NOTHING about mechanics or car upkeep and I have no interest in learning), and that'd I'd be adding to my life.
But it's also just very weird that people act like you can't be a "real adult" if you don't drive. I am an adult, and it's my adult decision to not drive. Maybe I will in the future but that's my business. If I wanted to, I would learn. But I dont want to.
#i feel like i dont tend to go places enough that i cant just get other people to drive me#like other various reasons of me not driving include:#I'm afraid of driving. im even afraid of driving our ATV & i always drive slowly.#i have adhd & i zone out a lot & im terrified of doing that on the road#not eco friendly & carpooling is better. id sooner buy a horse with the money it takes to buy & upkeep a car.#im desperately afraid of hurting someone. cars are dangerous & a big responsibility. i do not want that
