my oh my, it has been quite an interesting week, hasn't it? well don't worry— i'm here to fill you in on some things going on around here.

to kick off our first blind item post, we're going to talk about a fresh face around here that has already found herself falling head over heels for a kind fellow, but it looks like she could be getting into it a little too quick. the pair is not "exclusive" yet, but she is already dreaming about taking his last name.

one of our ladies is having her patience tested by a blast from her current partner's past. "the blast" is seemingly causing havoc in their lives and our blind item thinks that so many boundaries are being crossed. to add to it, "the blast" is also leaving a trail of havoc in their own life with their own significant other, who is also not happy with the honesty they've received or the situation at hand.

a new couple announced their relationship to a group they consider to be their close friends, but the announcement feels like it went awry. a member of their circle immediately dropped from the group chat, which left room for the couple to feel unsupported by this particular friend. is it jealousy? is it pettiness? until the conversation is had, the assumptions are endless.

the girls are going through it this week. a popstar wants to bury her head and disappear after someone who she could not get her mind off of for days on end turned out to disappoint her.

should we do more blind items in the future?

How do I remotely begin to get into blaseball if it is as I understand over. I am fascinated and confused! <- he has been on firewalker with me lockdown for 48 hrs and don't even have context !

honestly. getting into blaseball rn is both really easy and really difficult. so much of the gameplay is kinda lost bc of poor management (if i recall correctly?) but the real draw of blaseball was really the incredible collective storytelling we all did over what was basically a series of randomized events. a lot of blaseball fans still exist here on tumblr and continue to make art and works inspired/for blaseball!!

the blaseball wiki is a good place to get an idea of the collective lore, and as im sure you saw, the seattle garages is (was) a collective of people writing in-universe fansongs for their team, the seattle garages, which means some of it makes NO SENSE to newcomers but its also a good place to get a sense of the community's worldbuilding! the DISCIPLINE album for example covers the entire discipline era (seasons 1-11)

additionally theres the official blaseball youtube/blaseball roundup which explains the most important events that occurred through blaseball's lifetime! and the podcast infinite cities blaseball, which covered a lot of the community's thoughts and ideas at the time—if i remember correctly.

there's still a bit of a thriving community on here as well, although its smaller than it used to be. and there's still plenty of music (the garages, last i checked in 2022, had over 72 hours of original music), art, fanfics, and fangames to explore and have fun with! blaseball is gone, but it doesn't mean we can't still have fun with it.

You still take fire damage if you end your turn in the wall or within 10 feet of the side you selected when you cast the spell. You can use a bonus action while holding the staff to expend 1 charge from it to dispel any light that you can see within a 5-foot cube that's within 60 feet you. If it's a magical light, it must have been created by a spell of 2nd level or lower. When you do, you gain 1d6 + 4 temporary hit points.

⚔️ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺! Staff of the Eclipse
Staff, very rare (requires attunement by a druid, sorcerer, warlock, or wizard) ___

This staff has a crescent-shaped head made of pockmarked lunar stone. Floating within the crescent stone is a motionless, black orb. Regardless of how you look at the orb, it’s always encircled by a ring of fire that faces you. The fire winks out if the staff isn’t held. The fire is harmless, and it sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet.

While holding the staff, you have darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. If you already have darkvision, holding the staff increases its range by 60 feet.

The staff has 10 charges. It regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dusk. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff crumbles into dust and is destroyed.

𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨. While holding the staff, you can use an action to expend some of its charges to cast either the “moonbeam” (2 charges) or “wall of fire” (4 charges) spell, using your spell save DC. This version of “wall of fire” creates the same ghostly flames as “moonbeam”; it deals radiant damage instead of fire damage and doesn’t ignite flammable objects, although it doesn’t share “moonbeam’s” other effects. You can increase the spell slot level of a spell cast from the staff by one for each additional charge you expend.

𝘽𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙣. When you cast “moonbeam” from the staff, you can choose to cause its dim light to be red. A creature that fails the saving throw against the spell also has its hit point maximum reduced by an amount equal to the radiant damage dealt. The reduction lasts until the creature finishes a long rest. Once this property of the staff has been used, it can’t be used again until the next dawn.

𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙚. When you cast “wall of fire” from the staff, you can choose to cause it to embody the nature of an eclipse. When you do, the spell creates a ringed wall up to 20 feet in diameter, 20 feet high, and 1 foot thick; the area within the ring is filled with magical darkness until the spell ends. I love the headcanon that Simon has had his nose broken multiple times, but I like to take it one step further and imagine: what if Simon’s nose has been broken so many times that it’s permanently affected his sense of smell?

That would explain why the big bastard is so grumpy all the time, right? I mean, wouldn’t you be if you lost one (and more than likely, two) of your five primary senses?

Like, just imagine what it would be like to lose both your sense of smell and taste (because the two are strongly intertwined). It would be like living every day of your life as if you have a bad head cold. It would make eating – something you have to do to survive – a chore instead of something to be enjoyed.

And I know what you’re thinking. No, I’m not about to insert a “British food is bland anyway so it’s not like he’s missing much” joke here. That would be in poor taste (just like their food, hey-oh!)

Okok no but seriously. Imagine what losing those two major senses would do to a person mentally. Knowing Simon, he would probably pretend like it’s no big deal, like it doesn’t matter that everything smells and tastes like the color gray to him, even though secretly that couldn’t be further from the truth.

So imagine if that didn’t have to be the case any longer. Imagine if there was something – say, nasal surgery – that could restore those abilities he almost forgot he had once upon a time. (I’m not a doctor so I don’t know if surgery would work, but let’s just run with it, ok?)

For starters, I don’t think he’d be the one to initially seek out a treatment. The idea would have to come from an outside source (like from you, his loving partner) and it would take a lot of convincing to get him to go under the knife.

But say that you are able to convince him to have the surgery; that you get him to agree to have his bones rebroken and properly set this time, to have his olfactory nerves reattached to the places they’d been severed from. What would it be like to sit beside him as he wakes up and takes that first, deep inhale? What would it be like to witness him experience the power of smelling again for the first time in what feels like forever?

Would he be overwhelmed? Underwhelmed? Something that’s impossible for him to put into precise words?

And what would be the first smell that sticks out to him? The medicinal air of his hospital room? The clean aroma of his bed linens? The coppery tang of his own blood congealing around his sutures?

Realistically, I don’t think it would be until he goes home that any real change is apparent to you. It’s once he has the freedom to do whatever he wants, like a former shelter dog getting to explore the world for the first time, that you’d notice the drastic switch in him.

All of a sudden, Simon would be super adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. In the past, he just shoveled down whatever tasteless slop would keep his body fueled. But now, he’d find the fun in trying all sorts of different cuisines, ordering entire menus at a time to discover what he does and doesn’t like to eat.

I also think he would start experimenting with ways to perfume himself. Yes, he used soap and deodorant even when he had no sense of smell (for others��� sake, truly). But now, he’d go beyond those basic items, wandering into scented shampoos, specialty aftershaves, even dabbling with cologne.

Of course, things wouldn’t be all peachy 100% of the time, as I feel like he would soon get very picky about the kinds of scents he could tolerate in your home. The kind of fabric softener you use in the laundry, the kind of hand soap you have in the bathroom, the kind of leftovers you can and absolutely cannot reheat in the microwave the next day, just to name a few.

But through it all – the good and the bad, the bold and the nuanced – Simon finds there’s one scent in particular that eclipses anything else he’s encountered: You.

And I’m not talking about the products you use in your hair or the fragrances you like to wear on a night out. I’m talking about the raw, natural, pheromonal scent of you.

It’s like a drug to Simon, that warm, pleasurable smell that clings to your skin. There’s something about it that brings him an abundance of comfort, and he finds that after he’s had a long day, he wants nothing more than to come home and bury his face in your neck as he cuddles you to sleep.

Call it what you want. Biology, psychology, psychopathy, or so on. Simon doesn’t know what it is about your scent that’s so irresistible to him, nor does he really care. All he knows is that for a long time, something was missing from his life beyond just his ability to smell. And now that he’s realized what it is, he can’t believe he ever lived without it:

His reason to breathe.
