semi-dark king merlin au, someone from ealdor tells king cenred about merlin and he is captured and held as a slave in essetir. since merlin despises captivity and servitude, he’d rather be dead and free than alive and in chains so he acts out and pisses people (especially the king) off so they’ll think him too much trouble and kill him. at first they stick to beatings until merlin manages to get his chains around a few necks and now has a body count so they kill him…..only he wakes back up a few hours later and king cenred is Intrigued and keeps him close. merlin keeps acting out but no matter how many times they kill him, he won’t stay dead. merlin has this moment after waking up perfectly fine after his twenty seventh death where he is hopeless and believes there to be no escape, not even thru death. a few other sorcerers in chains come and help him clean up and give him a lil peptalk, realizing him to be emrys, and then they revolt and take over the kingdom and crown merlin as king and now uther is like “wtf” bc his neighboring kingdom who was kinda sorta on his wavelength about sorcery, though uther did not approve of keeping them alive, is now a kingdom ruled by magic. he goes to war with them but with magic running free and fucking emrys on the throne, they don’t make a lot of headway. anyways merthur meet on the battlefield, enemies to lovers, you get it
#bbc merlin#merlin emrys#king merlin#arthur pendragon#merthur#fanfic#fanfiction#fic idea#writing prompt#king merlin of essetir#the angst is crazy#merthur despising each other bc to arthur merlin is an evil sorcerer while to merlin arthur is just like his father who is just like cenred#slowly learning more about each other and seeing their kindness#slowly earning respect between the other#lmao those silly episodes where the hero and the villain come to a truce to fight a common enemy and then go right back to fighting after#morganas ‘betrayal’ to camelot is just joining essetir’s side#she learns to control her magic and finds people like her#uhhh#druids flock to essetir while the antimagic people of essetir flee to camelot#essetir kinda just becomes a magic kingdom lmao#THEY SNEAK INTO CAMELOT AND SET THE DRAGON FREE SO ESSETIR JUST HAS A FUCKING DRAGON#camelot is shitting their pants#when arthur becomes king hes just like ‘we gotta sign a treaty atp theres no way were winning#and i refuse to send more of my men to their deaths’#tense political situation where theyre signing a treaty - one wrong move and everything goes to shit#now that the kingdoms can live in relative peace arthur can see the good magic can do for a kingdom as essetir thrives#since theyre on sorta good terms there can be feasts held w merlin in camelot or arthur is essetir#slowburn babey

Some fans: Eloise is such a fake feminist, doesn't she see how some girls and women enjoy marriage? Doesn't she see how her privileges give her luxuries others don't? She's so selfish. She doesn't even use her words to support other women!
Also same fans: I wish Eloise would stop talking, like her speaking about feminism at every turn is getting old. Can't she just be quiet and let everyone enjoy the fun? Like yeah talking about women's lack of personhood without a male figure in society, or how they can't go to university, or how sometimes they marry men who will only hurt them but need to for their status is sad to see, but THE ROMANCE-
#bridgerton#eloise bridgerton#like...this is the rhetoric i see a lot in this fandom especially on twitter and insta#like how are you going to call eloise a fake but then get mad at her when she calls out her society?#how are you going to wish that characters you love weren't put in these circumstances but then shit on the only one calling it out?#like is eloise flawed in her mindset? of course but 1.) she's young and learning 2.) making attempts to grow 3.) is the only one championing#for women's rights verbally and numerous times on screen#and while she is privileged it's shown many in her stsnding don't agree with her and turn against her when she speaks about feminism#so you can tell that it's not a favored topic of discussion#that within itself shows me that she's doing more than most around her#(and no just making a fortune for yourself as woman does not make you adherently feminist especially if you earned that wealth by tearing#down other women (no matter their status) and/or blackmailing them)#and to say eloise is fake but ignore how she risked so much to protect not only pen but geneieve is laughable

It's crazy that people still uphold show!Sansa as a well-written character and pretend that liking her is the pinnacle of feminism when it would be infinitely more impactful to acknowledge her terrible and misogynistic writing. This is the same character who, while written by two men, was thankful for the abuse she suffered because it allowed her to grow. The same character who we had to be told was smart because the writers were too lazy to develop or show her intelligence. The same character who had to rely heavily on the men surrounding her and ended up accomplishing nothing on her own merit ( and no, thinking that she deserved to be Queen doesn't mean that she earned it). She is not well-written, she is not complex, and she is not a feminist character. Which is fine! If you enjoy her then good on you, but please stop pretending that she's something she isn't just because you feel the need to justify liking her character
#anti got#anti d&d#anti show sansa#anti sansa stans#like literally one of the worst written characters on that show because they tried so hard to make her the most important#while being entirely incompetent and their only method of doing so was to steal from other characters which ruined the plot#the only arguable achievement was defeating LF but even then it's written in the script that she had to go to Bran to explain things#/she rallied the Vale army!/ no she didn't 😭 she wrote a letter to LF and he did everything. instead of showing her arc in the Vale and#her learning about politics to rally them herself they took the quickest route to give her a /badass/ savior scene#which only ended up making her look selfish + power-hungry for putting her brothers' lives at risk for not telling anybody about said lette#and idiotic in the aftermath after relying once again on LF even though he was very obviously manipulating her#/pawn to player/ sounds catchy on paper but without seeing that growth/development it doesn't work#Arya was terribly written but at least we /saw/ her training in a way we never did with Sansa#and people try to apply this same logic to the books and think she's gonna suddenly spring forth as a political mastermind#when that's not how George writes...we see characters develop and make mistakes on page and get actual earned growth#feminism isn't defending the writing of two men who gave her a rape plot not in the books because they thought it was /interesting/#when the only aspect of that plot they adapted was a woman suffering abuse :/#and as per usual with stansas their only /evidence/ of her being well-written is accusing you of being misogynistic if you don't like her

There's this idea I see sometimes that you can only like food insofar as you use it as a tool to satiate your hunger, but honestly? It's okay to like food not for how it serves you but for what it feels like and means.
It's okay to like food because it tastes good, because it reminds you of your childhood and your culture, because it reminds you of beautiful nostalgic memories. It's okay to like food. Food is such an integral part of the human experience. The more we minimize food as "solely a tool," the less connected we are to not only food but to ourselves because so often, people tie their bodies in with food and how it does or does not serve them.
#recovery#food#disordered eating tw#eating disorder tw#(just for the implication)#something i am trying to internalize while recovering#the idea that food is solely a tool personally harmed me because it stripped food down to something i must sufficiently earn#but right now i am cooking spaghetti because i want to taste it and because while i am not hungry i know i have not eaten enough to be okay#and i'm going to learn to be happy about it or hell at the very least indifferent and unafraid by it#i will have done more damage to my physical and mental wellbeing by ignoring my body than ever eating for the sake of tasting something good#insert that one jack black gif from school of rock where he says '...because i LIKE TO EAT'#making my italian ancestors happy by eating spaghetti but pissing them off to seeing red by snapping the spaghetti in half to cook it

ngl I think I might change gabriel to my canon warden 🧍♀️
#i love nalah with my whole heart but she never wanted to be a warden and i do believe she’d hit da bricks#while gabriel would also get conscripted but sticks out his duty. right down to the ritual. and not following into the eluvian#(ngl i think a convo with nathaniel in awakening where he finds out gabriel was also conscripted would be fun to explore)#(also if he learns that gabriel planned to take back his mom’s ship in amaranthine and raze the howes to ash on the waking sea)#(moments when you realize you’re bonded in mutual trauma and vengeance by each other’s blood and accidentally became friends)#anyway. and instead of vanishing he’d join the inquisition not only to stay by leliana but use resources for the cure search#(and replaces c*llen as commander lol)#(also comical to me the hoops blackwall would be doing to dodge close examination of his warden-ness)#then all the guilt around duty and how he feels about family vs his perceived neglect of kieran by being absent his life#because gabriel sees kieran as his son but doesn’t think he’s earned the right to *be* his father#he chose the wardens over him - he chose not to follow morrigan#but then kieran is there. and well.#as y’all can see i’m rotating so many thoughts around him the more i play DAI lmao#dani plays dragon age#game: dragon age#oc: gabriel cousland

deeply enjoy that the novel can also be read as a commentary on the fallacy of information. we have zzs as the main narrator who adds to this nuance by being a former spymaster and leader of a bunch of proficient investigators. hes very intimate with the process of verification of information, and even his vast databank of knowledge and his abilities of filtering and sorting the "true" from the "fake" is tested throughout the novel through many instances and events. its especially interesting because he makes a major mistake, almost from the very start, that he resolves only after a very long time, and only after overcoming personal weaknesses. his personal weakness at recognizing truth vs decept reveals itself in the inability to meet personal events with a human perspective; he is basically functioning like a person with two lives, and most of the time, he at least acts as if he is regarding wkx, suspected master of ghosts, from the professional business grounds of the retired leader of shadows rather than from the perspective of a person with an adventurous life and wishes of his own. in this lies the danger to misinterpret and to refuse to confront what is truly going on. if zzs cant 'find' the "true reason" for the ghost master following his humble retired self, he is going to do his utmost to make up one (on the basis of his personal and professional experience with such situations), instead of considering at least once the admittedly unlikely chance that wkx might like him and is even deeply sincere about him. this doesnt signal anything less but that we, as the reader, should not irrevocably trust even the one person who is in most stories the most trustworthy; the main narrator. instead, we are advised to reserve us the right to doubt and think for ourself, to look critically upon even zzs, which only circles back to the novel's theme of the fallacy of information. it even lends to the novel's dialogue with the human right to form your own opinion and your own thoughts and come to your own conclusions, no matter how much they might diverge from norm or mainstream or traditions, and no matter how tempting it might be not to.
#tian ya ke#just thoughts im having while im continuing my reread#zhou zishu from tyk#zhou zishu#this has me wondering if zzs's struggle with himself regarding trusting in wkx's display of sincerity#can also be read as his general struggle with being a person with a life of his own and private opinions in service of no other than himsel#one of the things he learns is that is okay to have desires and its okay to Be a person#oftentimes that reveals itself in the novel's question of morality as a concept and the conditions for receiving love and care#'are villains and ppl whove done bad stuff deserving of love and care? do they need to earn it?'#but i think it also comes true here where zzs essentially needs to find a way to be human again#going from having lived a life with a truly atrocious work/life balance to a life that is fully and entirely his own#(i always think that zzs taking the nails has a lot to do with reclaiming ownership)#(and also with 'detoolifying' himself; hes turning himself into a cripple he is 'useless'. this gives him the justification#he needs to live according to his own personal whims and desires.)#updating my tags to find my insane chat with geneticcatalyst again->#bouncing thoughts back and forth#the mutual tag#geneticcatalyst

i hate that the majority of us will never find true fulfillment in our jobs. it's so fucking sad (and i need to find lit on the subject and the very concept of work vs jobs). i'm still trying to accept that reality, because i really don't think i can ever stand to work for someone else period, but i can't do anything about it right now. i'm trying not to think of a career or anything like that or else i'll want to throw myself off this building, but there's a lot of comfort in really understanding that i'm working to keep myself afloat/fuel my hobbies/stay sharp. i don't think i ever really understood that until the traumatic experience i had from my previous job, because i've always had this tendency to pour my whole being into whatever organization/company i'm a part of (not very commie of me but i know better now). that usually meant striving for perfection and overworking to the point of severe burnout (which has happened three times now) for a company that would sooner watch me crash and burn than give me what i'm ACTUALLY due. i feel like this is all kind of obvious when i think about it sometimes, but now that i'm actually living it and actively learning from it, yeah it's definitely different.
im deleting this soon i just need to post this rn because notion makes me feel really alone sometimes
#i'm getting pretty nervy because it's been a while since i left that company and i'm getting sick of not earning money#but i'm learning to give myself more grace and ample time to rest and really think about what i want out of life#because i forget and when i do have an idea im always paralyzed and don't know how to proceed#and i'm still learning all of that when last year i jumped at this opportunity because it's an extremely huge company#but neither the industry nor the job itself aligned with my principles... not to mention the hours and the lack of overtime pay and god.#the abusive boss. in hindsight i'm proud that i lasted as long as i did and still did a fucking great job until i couldn't anymore#anyway tldr im wiser now and im trying to be less nervous and be more conscious about my next job pic. i'll research well#and teach myself new stuff since i want to distance myself from hr as much as possible

ten books 2 know me!
thank for you the tag @pancakehouse @fruity-individual @serethereal @rollercoasterwords !
-> skulduggery pleasant, derek landy.
starting with this one because this WAS my childhood i was. i never read percy jackson never read twilight read [redacted] and it wasnt even good but my dad thought id like these so he bought me the first skulduggery pleasant one day...oh man oh boy...these were. i was eight queuing up outside a whsmith with a schoolbag full of books for the author's booksigning...also he was so nice ta derek x
-> giovanni's room, james baldwin.
cannot get into this too much before i start wailing and biting and stuff but well. giovanni's room is my favourite book of all time i read most of it. last year in june laying on brighton beach while the sun was going down and i have never recovered from and will you bring me home again / yes. i'll bring you home again since and fear i never will. also! first james baldwin book i read who has come to be an author whose writing style i adore and carry in my mind whenever i try to write something myself.
-> young mungo, douglas stuart.
not the first book i ever cried at but. first book i ever experienced disgusting full body sobs while reading and fierce competitor also for. my favourite book. had to reread so much of those final pages because i couldnt concentrate with all the crying and after that i am so excited to never have to experience the physical chest-aching worry that i did for the duration of reading this. also i think the very quiet way love is written here through. very trivial small things is something i loved very much and that has stayed with me!
-> wuthering heights, emily bronte.
read this when i was about eleven, and then again a few weeks ago with my mum (whose favourite book it is) and it was still so. absolutely sickening i just think its excellent xx and without it we wouldn't have kate bush's 1978 single wuthering heights so xx think on that xx
-> the autobiography of malcom x, alex haley.
when i was a child my younger sister joined a sunday league football team and my dad used to give her a tenner every time she scored a goal. to even things out since i refused to get up at the arsecrack of dawn to contract hypothermia on a frozen football pitch, he started giving me books exclusively on malcolm x to read and would give me a tenner every time i finished one. this one was the first i read and was indeed the first book that ever made me cry at the end xx
-> my brilliant friend, elena ferrante.
so many of these are recent reads because it was only jan 2022 that i made a genuine effort to get back into reading for leisure and mbf is no different but well. the way friendship is written here is just unhinged and incredible and the series in general so far has been. there is nothing like it i fear
-> the raven boys, maggie steifvater.
gansey unfortunately.
-> macbeth, william shakespeare.
okay i know i know but. when you are studying it in englit class for your gcse it might as well be a book innit. anyway of all the texts i did for english both at gcse + a level macbeth is still my favourite and probably the most effort i ever put into an english essay. special shoutout to frankenstein which i can enjoy in hindsight but unfortunately it fucked me on the exam so out of bitterness it doesnt get a place here x
-> the secret history, donna tartt.
i did inhale this book but also it gets a place purely for being my first exposure to donna tartt's writing and style in general which is so very distinctive and has. undoubtedly had an effect on me for better or for worse we shall one day see but for now. who can say!
-> foster, claire keegan.
it is a little pamphlet of a book at eighty six pages but. i read it just over a month ago and havent properly stopped thinking about it since it was just everything quiet + mundane + understated that makes my brain start sparking and whirring and. im bringing it on holiday in the summer so i can read it again in the appropriate season xx
tagging. but no pressure. @gaewaren @dykefever @emerqldv @fastasyoucan1999 @forlorngarden @writteninverses @boyjoan !!
#also it doesnt quite earn a place but the enemy series by charlie higson? no one ever seemed to read those but that was my fucking last of#us. that was my mazerunner. that was my dystopian YA (bar the hunger games okay yeah i was a hunger games girl wasnt everyone)#considered putting the beatles in their generation on here but managed to avoid it thank god. also no future by matthew worley#which was a dense slog into british punk as a politics and youth subculture but also well i learned a lot about my favourite topic#tag game#reading tag#will b fun to see how i would do this a little while on from now. like what maintains its spot + what gets bumped n stuff

📝 💐 🛼 💔⏪️💭🧊🌄❤️🩹
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
previous ⏪︎ now playing ⏩ next back to playlist
#stranger things#bizarre love triangle playlist#el hopper#el's pov#i was so happy when i re-listened to this alongside the lyrics when looking for songs from el's pov#'at first i was afraid. i was petrified. kept thinking i could never live without you by my side'#all season long we saw el experiencing heartache over mike and how it led to her feeling insecure as if it was all her fault#she was convinced that if mike didn't love her then she couldn't be happy#'but then i spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong and i grew strong and i learned how to get along'#el spending time away from mike at nina along with all the months of doubt prior to their fallout now having validation...#it wasn't just her loving and falling out of love with mike over the course 3 days#it was her realization that their relationship has been deteriorating for a while now and coming to terms with that in 3 days#'and so you're back from outer-space. i just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face'#this is the main line that reminds me of her brushing past mike and will in the cabin#probably a little more harsh as this song is pretty harsh in terms of the singer not being capable of seeing her ex as even a friend now#but el's earned some harshness after what just went down#that doesn't mean they'll never overcome this#it just means there is still a serious need to confront it which wont be super pretty#and then the forgiveness and acceptance can only come after that#'and you see me. somebody new. i'm not the chained up little person still in love with you'#oooooo get him!#'you think i'd crumble? you think i'd lay down and die?'#sort of reminds me of the assumptions not just mike has but also most of the audience#they think it would be impossible for mike to end things with el bc she would be so broken hearted and she doesn't deserve that#which of course she doesn't#but maybe el knows what she deserves... and it's more than what mike is able to give#'i've got all my life to live and i've got all my love to give and i'll survive. i will survive.'#she's not going to go on forever being hung up on something that wasn't what she deserved in the first place#she will survive ya'll#4x09

the only meats i buy from the grocery store nowadays are cold cuts from a brand that's certified humane but this week i got a little bit of pork for the cats (as a treat) and i got sooo sooooo sad thinking about how smart pigs are and how cruel the meat industry is. and although i don't think there's anything wrong with eating meat from animals that have been humanely raised it dawned on me like a brick to the face that becoming vegetarian is inevitable
#the only barrier i have to overcome is i am such a picky eater i literally don't like enough vegetarian proteins to survive. gotta buff up#my food options first :| and obviously the cats will still eat meat i'll just find a local humane source#alternatively i'd be ok with eating meat that i raise + slaughter myself because that would feel like i've been close enough to the death#process to earn it. does that make sense. i don't think it's fair to eat meat while getting to be sheltered from what it once was#like if you can't stomach killing and gutting and quartering a chicken you shouldn't eat it you know.#but realistically i'm not gonna move to a farm or start hunting anytime soon so. learning to like lentils and chickpeas it is#is this like. libertarian of me. much to think about

Steve is most likely to end up in a lavender marriage and Tony's most likely to end up in a “married for tax/immigration/inheritance fraud” reasons.
They meet as married men and pine for each other hardcore and are also trying not to read too much into how their interest seems reciprocated and oh nooooo both Immigration/the IRS and the the Church/in-laws/DADT era army dudes or whatever are snooping around at the same time at each of their marriages and they have to be so good at being married at the people they are married to oh noooooo and they other guy doesn’t know why they are suddenly being iced out and maybe they were just imagining things? maybe it’s for the best with all these eyes around on them…

well my dryer did that cool thing where it takes 3 hours and then still leaves most of my clothes slightly damp. so i have to wear my slightly-too-small coat from middle school today
#its okay one of my cats absolutely loves this thing im sure hell be happy i used it again so it smells like me again#i had to pull it out a year or two ago for a surprise concert over thanksgiving break#(2 of the 4 cellos couldn't do it suddenly and if they lost enough string players they weren't going to use any of them#so my parents were like um hey want to earn some money. so then i had to learn the music in like 3 days)#and then i left it out after the concert and this cat decided it was his new favorite sleeping spot for a while#which is funny to me because the last time i had used it up to that point he wasn't even alive yet

I know it's because she's an attempt at a main series Sunset Shimmer and because they eventually have her be Twilight's student, but man I don't quite see the point in having Starlight Glimmer be a Twilight Sparkle parallel
#sunset and twilight were very connected characters at least once sunset was introduced#they had a similar upbringing and similar beliefs and interests#but sunset grew resentful and bitter and tried to force herself to become an alicorn and abandoned celestia#while twilight could have done the same but celestia sent her to ponyville and helped her before it could happen#(citing friendship games bc i am a ''twilight could very easily be fucked up'' truther)#and twilight earned the right to be an alicorn. sunset ultimately never reaches that goal but she spiritually finds an equivalent#in friendship games when she does her cool ass magical girl transformation at the peak of her arc#starlight............ is purple with stripes in the hair like twilight. she uh. lost a friend or something.#she... needs to learn about having friends like twilight did... she uh. was a leader i guess but a mean one. she has magic that is strong.#and uh thats it. besides that theyre basically completely different except in design and name#and ngl i just kinda find that distracting. sunset was a parallel but she's still distinct from twilight in name and design#nor does she blend in with the other characters even tho shes also orange and yellow like applejack and fluttershy#bc she has her own distinct style separate from them#starlight has a different silhouette but besides that she just looks way too similar to twi and its distracting to me#they even lampshade it in season 7 lmao#echoed voice
