You and your boyfriend are asleep in your room, in your one bedroom apartment. I'm over because I'm moving a few states away, and I wanted to see you for what could be the last time (gods don't let it be the last time). You came down with a fever because, of course, that's my luck. And your boyfriend works over nights so he's also in bed.

I know you feel bad that you have to sleep, you're worried you might give it to me but I wouldn't mind. I'd call out of work and stay sick in bed with you both. But off you go.

So let me pretend. That were all together. You and him are in bed, you both have such hard jobs, and you're sick, so I do the dishes. I clean the burns off the stove where you let the macaroni boil over last night. I pretend that when you come out later and see the dishes done, you kiss me. You say, "Thank you, baby" and I make you tea and tuck you in with blankets on the couch.

Your boyfriend comes out once he wakes up and he sits next to me and we all cuddle on the couch while watching movies.

Let's pretend that I'm not moving across the country. Let's pretend I'm brave enough to kiss you. Let's pretend that I can have this.
