so, i just wanna talk about my personal characterizations of them. farkas is not some stupid bumbling brute with no brain and no feelings, and vilkas isn't just some angry angsty asshole (although at a surface level, i can see this). and this definitely heads into headcanon/fanfic territory.

farkas has the unique role of being the only companion we can actually witness transform into a werewolf (we do get to see aela in wolf form, but not her actual transformation and with no combat). and kodlak has convinced vilkas that sovngarde is a desirable goal incompatible with lycanthropy. so what does this mean?

clearly, farkas is more at ease with his own lycanthropy – his own self. he can transform into a wolf at will, he has amazing control over it. he is always calm and level-headed, he isn't concerned about any sort of bloodlust or rampages. i think this is due to his upbringing, surrounded by werewolves and warriors his entire life. this is his normal, his peace. i still believe his wolfblood burns hot within him, and he has moments where he loses control. but these moments are few and far between. his outer shell is a quiet calm man, who has moments of boisterousness and passion. and he is perceived as man of few words, or more negatively, a bad conversationalist. i think this contributes to the idea that he is stupid, but he isn't. he definitely doesn't have as much capacity to remember many historical facts like vilkas, but still he isn't stupid.

farkas has a rich inner dialogue and feels his emotions very deeply. yes, he has his personal trauma and other things he has dealt with which have possibly caused him to become withdrawn. but he has a very healthy outlet in hunting and fighting and training, especially considering he is literally not a human and biologically has a need to hunt (whether this aligns with human needs or morals is irrelevant).

and you'd think the same would apply to vilkas, but it doesn't. he is always grumpy at best, a whirling storm of fury at worst. he has bursts of anger, shouting, maybe even violence. combat is his main outlet, at jorrvaskr he can knock skulls together all day. but put him in a tavern and he will sulk in the corner all night. to most everyone else, he's moody, brooding, irritable, snobby, fun-intolerant, and has no problem laughing in your face when you ask a stupid question (although he'll tell you the answer anyway, because he certainly knows it). but there is an ache, deep in his heart. he has carried it with him for a very long time.

i believe in childhood vilkas was perhaps closer emotionally to their father, jergen, or had a stronger attachment to him. and when jergen left for war, vilkas took this much harder. he had to reason with himself and come up with some way for this loss and grief to make sense. so vilkas perceives this as abandonment, and maybe it was. and due to his environment and the people around him, the only thing this boy could understand was anger. then he latched onto another father figure, kodlak.

and we have to remember that kodlak wasn't always an old man. he was young, a powerful werewolf warrior who claimed many victories and looked glorious doing it. he still maintains a connection to talos in his old age, which he likely acquired in youth long before he became a werewolf. after jergen left and never returned, kodlak took on the responsibilities of instilling good values into those boys. i don't believe kodlak really taught them much about talos (somewhat secular upbringing). but he did teach them about honor, integrity, leadership, and security. over time, kodlak came to see them as his own sons. i think this is where kodlak's worries regarding sovngarde stem from; things are different now that he has children.

and when kodlak became disillusioned with lycanthropy, he projects onto vilkas and farkas, saying that they do not take to the blood as deeply. vilkas was easily convinced. farkas obviously just agrees with vilkas, he goes where his brother goes. but i think internally, farkas is extremely comfortable as a werewolf and would not choose to rid himself of his power. so when kodlak says farkas seems to be fine after swearing off transformations... well, i think it is because farkas would never give this up, and hasn't.

i think farkas' mental peace and clarity come from being his unrestrained self. he doesn't hold back his wolf, he embraces it fully. he regularly hunts in beast form, like aela and skjor. he transforms whenever he needs to, a powerful release of emotions and other energies. maybe farkas just wasn't as close to jergen, maybe he just has better emotional control and was able to efficiently cope with his grief. no matter the reason, he isn't as affected by this loss as his brother. (not to say farkas was entirely unaffected, but everyone has their own reaction to loss). however, farkas did very much look up to skjor. and when skjor dies, farkas is grieving. he expresses this verbally once and then never again. he's a man of few words, he contains his grief and other emotions.

vilkas' enduring anger, however, is worsened by holding himself back. he is convinced lycanthropy is a curse, that he isn't a true nord. so he doesn't transform into a wolf. he remains a man, every day, possibly for years. he is bottled up, repressed, waiting to be released but he will not allow this to happen. this is the illusion of self control. in holding himself back, he makes it so much harder to contain. he is absolutely itching with rage and he knows why but he is so stubborn. he has made up his mind; he will not transform. to him, this is strength. he believes his beastblood is his weakness. but i don't think werewolves should see their blood as a curse or a blessing. it is simply who they are, and it's important emotionally and mentally and physically to embrace who you are.

so basically, when farkas transforms into a wolf, he is completely in control and fully aware. this is what vilkas thinks he is, but in holding himself back he is actually on a path to losing control over his beastblood.

what's the process for making new versions of legendaries from previous sets? my first deck was a commander deck based around Tolsimir, Friend to Wolves (War of the Spark), and i find the way he differs from Tolsimir Wolfblood (Ravnica: City of Guilds) and Tolsimir, Midnight's Light (Murders at Karlov Manor) super fun and interesting, especially in how all of them synergise really well with each other.

We always look at old versions when making new ones. We want it to feel like the same character, although it often can play up different aspects.

Loreena got her hands on a wolfblood potion as a young child. She doesn't remember that incident, but her parents sure did. Her mother was afraid of her after that and avoided her as much as she could. Her father was jealous and tried to become more powerful when Loreena would grow to be. So he started eating raw meat and later turned to cannibalism.

When her sister was born, her father became violent, mostly towards Loreena. She quickly learned to stay away from the house as much as possible.

She befriended a pack of wolves and had a lot of fun playing with them. Her father found out and killed the entire pack in front of her eyes. That's when he told her she was a lycanthrope.

Some time in her teenage years, she saw her father tearing the heart out of a corpse and eating it. She ran to the nearest village and told the authorities. When she returned home, her family was burning on crosses.

She ran away again and lived alone in the wild for a few months. Then she stumbled upon the hideout of a group of people studying dark arts. She stayed with them for a while and learned a lot about lycanthropy, alchemy, entropy, psionics and phasmalism.

The group was found and attacked. The survivors disbanded, most heading to Qyra. Loreena stayed in Nehrim and lived in the wild again.

Eventually the creator temple found and captured her. She was to be publically executed in a way to further the temple's agenda. She managed to escape together with another prisoner, Sirius. They made their way to Ostian and snuck on a ship to Enderal. Sirius was just a means to an end for Loreena, so she wasn't too sad when he died. He was too chatty anyway.

Upon waking up in Enderal, she discovers she can now use magic. Her knowledge about the dark arts come in handy now.

She's grateful that Jespar helped her, but he's another one of those far too chatty guys. And oh is he annoying! She agrees to help him, but only so he can take her to Ark.

She wants to start a new life in Enderal, and for a while she actually tries to be nice and helpful. But it's really not her thing. People can leave her alone, thank you. She does jobs for the money and to have things to do. If those jobs take her far away from civilisation, it's a win in her books. If they involve killing, even better.

She begrudgingly joins the Order. She doesn't to be anywhere near pretentious, righteous religious people, but hey, if this Tealor guy says she's so important, that basically means she can do whatever she wants, right?

So she buys a house in the noble's quarter of Ark and decorates it with all sorts of skulls and bones and general dark stuff that would give her neighbours a heart attack. What are they gonna do? Report her to the Order?

Tharaêl is a delight. Very sunny personality. He's one of the few people she gets along with. She doesn't stop him from choosing his own end though. That's his decision.

She didn't pay much attention to Calia, until she mentioned a beast inside her. That sounds interesting! Loreena might've gotten a bit too excited when she saw Calia kill Karek. Maybe she handled that wrong. But misunderstandings can happen and overall, Calia seems to appreciate even her harsh truths.

Loreena turns down Jespar every chance she gets, because he's still annoying her.

She hates Rynéus and his stupid, childish games.

She went dancing with Calia when the end was near and was surprise when she actually enjoyed it.

She chose to go to the Star City with Calia. Because fuck humanity. She has no illusion that she could guide the next cycle to do better, but sacrifice herself in hopes the current one can save itself? No chance.

i know i won't shut up about wolfblood but i really need to say that i can't stop thinking the way everyone in-universe seems to see rhydian. like between him and maddy, they always see him as the worse of the two and think he's the bad influence. however, when you actually weigh their poorer choices, he and maddy are probably equal. it's also worth pointing that he's much more in control of his wolf and usually knows his limits compared to maddy, which is impressive considering he only just learned what he was while maddy had her whole life to prepare. he also understands why it's so important to keep their secret no matter how much maddy wants to share with her friends and takes the steps to ensure it even in episode 2. so yeah he makes mistakes and bad choices because he's an abandoned teenager so of course he does, but overall he tempers maddy's chaos just as much as she tempers his. which isn't to bash on maddy at all, of course, i just think he doesn't get the credit he deserves from other characters, especially in season 1. like most of their classmates, including tom and shannon see him as a dangerous rebel and even call him a psychopath (which is hilarious to me since he mostly wants to be left alone). maddy's parents never fully trust him and jump to blaming him whenever something goes wrong, which becomes obvious at the end when they kick him out of the pack saying he's out of control. everyone just seems to be expecting the worst of this poor kid

so we all know that the got show wildly underutilised the direwolves and robbed them of all magical significance, which annoys me because the starks finding the direwolves in chapter one of got seems to be a direct counter to the existential threat posed by the others in the prologue. they don't just mark the beginning of political upheaval, but also the return of magic to westeros. like daenerys' dragons, they are the magical counterbalance to the evil power of the others - one of the many incarnations of ice in the prophesised song of ice and fire.

having said that, they also have personal roles for each stark. the nominal determinism of the pups has been well analysed but i think you could read thoroughly into the behaviour of each one - for instance, nymeria connecting arya to westeros and her identity as a stark warg and summer matching bran's weird-girl green-seer energy.

to cut a long-winded post short, however, i think ghost is going to have to die in order for jon to be resurrected. i hate the thought as much as you likely do - ghost has been a close companion of jon and the reader throughout the series but unfortunately, that's what makes the sacrifice so meaningful. i do think jon's resurrection will require a sacrifice: it won't be like the show where jon sits up, is sad for five minutes and then hops off the dissection table to swing a sword about.

one of the many things ghost's name seems to foreshadow is jon's resurrection. not only that, but theon suggests the albino wolf is bound for death, saying he will "die faster than the others". however, when jon retorts "this one belongs to me", he takes responsibility for ghost's life. this is what all the starks do for their pups, but in jon the rescue is especially marked: he turns back to find ghost and whilst he is the runt of the litter, under jon's care he grows to be bigger than his siblings. jon gives ghost life and it makes a lot of symbolic sense for that life to be eventually returned. moreover, ghost with his weirwood colouring represents the old gods of the north - jon even muses that he might be some kind of agent of them. i don't think the lord of light alone can bring jon back: it has to be a rebirth of ice and fire, a spring-like mix of both elements of jon's nature.

jon's resurrection will mark a major change for the direction of his character and is potentially the first step towards realising his targaryen heritage and maaaybe becoming a dragon rider. the death of ghost, of his past as the invisible bastard of winterfell, might be necessary for this. however, i don't believe ghost or his identity as a wolf, as a stark, will truly leave him. if he has warged into ghost and lives on for a period of time in his body, it only makes sense that ghost will live on in him even after he has died. prolonged warging can create slippage between man and beast which we've already seen between living jon and his direwolf. we won't lose ghost entirely and perhaps with the affirmation of robb's will and finally turning home towards winterfell, jon will realise he doesn't need the physical emblem of a direwolf to be a stark - he has the wolfblood of the old gods and the first men within him always.

we know her reaction. in wolfblood secrets we learn that shannon IMMEDIATELY started spilling everything about her research on wolfbloods and every interaction she had with her wolfblood friends TO THE POLICE

this was literally a huge problem for jana and other wolfbloods, cause they didn't want them knowing everything about them due to the public reacting negatively to their reveal. especially cause the interrogators were very aggressive and held prejudice (accurate representation of police, even if we later found out one of them was a wolfblood who was faking his hatred)

but that's so on character for shannon. it just proves she still doesn't think or care about the consequences of her actions, even if she thinks she's doing "the right thing"

Species summary: a race of people with wolf blood in their veins that allows them to do things like transform into wolves. They are split into two main groups. One group chooses to live in the wild, while the other group chooses to live amongst humans. They are often mistaken for werewolves.

Shapeshifting: they have the ability to turn into wolves at will, but they can wolf out accidentally when they get too emotional, especially if they are angry. They are forced to become a wolf on full moons. When they wolf out their eyes turn yellow first, and then their veins become visible specifically around their face and arms. Then it will progress from there, growing fangs and claws before they turn completely into a wolf which just looks like a normal Wolf. Their fur color is either gray or matches their hair.

New moons: they feel sick and tired on new moons AkA dark moons, also most of their powers do not work, and there is no trace of wolf blood in their blood if it’s tested.

Enhanced healing

Eolas: when close to nature, Woolfbloods have the ability to connect to said nature and see whatever they want no matter where the thing or person is. It acts as a form of natural tracker. However, if not careful, this power can drive them crazy and getting close to technology while using it gives them very painful migraines.

Ansin: some wild Woolfbloods have the capability to see the past of the object or person they are touching. It can happen involuntarily, if they are in a place with strong emotions, tied to its history. This power can make Wolfbloods emotionally distressed or depressed, depending on what they see as they often feel the emotions they are experiencing. Their eyes turn to wolf eyes when they do this.

Lunar Eclipses: lunar eclipses make them act drunk, and they are in a weird half human half wolf state until the eclipse passes.

Dark of the Rune: a commet that passes during a new moon causes them to go into a coma and possibly die if not awoken by a specific frequency that only they can hear.

Firewalker: most Woolfbloods are afraid of fire, so surviving a fire is a great honor. Wolves who that do are called fire walkers or a’cerddwyr tan’ in the ancient Wolfblood language and are held in high regard

Wolfsbane: Woolfbloods hate the smell and taste of wolfsbane. If consumed it makes their wolf go crazy and their eyes remain stuck as Wolf eyes. It can be cured by consuming thistle root.

Molted poppy: there is a species of white poppy that’s pedals get covered in red spots when a wolfblood is near. Werewolf hunters sometimes use this to help them find wolves.

Morwal: If a Wolf has experienced a traumatic event, they may become possessed by the morwal as an involuntary trauma response. This is basically an evil wolf spirit that takes possession of their wolf and causes them to act uncharacteristically on full moons, as well as make their wolf form on full moons, aggressive and violent, possibly even prone to killing humans.

Been on my mind for a while, if let say the MC and Demon ROs get together (Seir n S) and had a child. Would our kid be more powerful since they have the combine powers of both witch and demon or would it make them weaker because of the hybrid blood in them?

Also would they be qualified as heir to the demon domain of the ROs?

Oh most definitely!

I am legitimately not kidding about them being excited about demon spawn. Witch offspring are incredibly powerful but live quite normally if raised in the human world and would need awakening to their powers by someone, usually their parent, helping them.

Demonspawn/Cambions needs both their Witch and Demon parent to be there to unlock their full potential, etc. Same for Witches and werewolves, the Wolfblooded, Vampires and Witches, the Dhampir. There is a few people who swear that Reapers and witches can have children, and call them a range of things, the Nephilim, Ghouls, (Horsemen is a favourite for some reason), the Ankou, Banshees, the Grim, Demi-Fiends.

All of these need species of both their parents to unlock their full potential, and its why Seir and Saleos especially get excited about any spawn with the Witch, because they know its a safe bet you're staying with them.

The spawn would indeed be heirs to their domains, and its partially why demons 1. Want to work with Witches so badly and 2. Constantly want to expand their own domains.
