continuing in realizing more repeat themes in my work, i think one major theme has to be, that something cannot exist without the circumstances and everything else around it which gives it context in which to exist. as in, a lion is not a lion without the savanna, a person is not who they are without the culture and contexts and history they are surrounded by, a predator is not a predator without the ecosystem it inhabits.
and i'm thinking about the last here because, i'm realizing even moreso that i think part of my philosophy on writing predators is that you can't just... Get Rid Of all the inconvenient, awkward, real aspects of being a predator. you can't just ignore the stuff you find boring or which kills the "cool" aspects, if they aren't acknowledged and there, then all that cool or scary stuff you won't isn't going to exist.
like, the personality of most large predators, i've noticed, is a lot more... underwhelming, than how you'll see it presented in fiction and popularly imagined. they're a lot more nervous, awkward, generally kinda silly, and overall just kinda underwhelming. they aren't cool, slick, confident, has-everything-together-all-the-time. they're smart, yes, but that intelligence in practice is far more tainted by realness than what the trope wants to imply, which means they're often more curious and playful and even kinda stupid, because they'll try a lot of things and most of those things won't work, but you can still see them figuring it out, instead of this faux ideal of them just immediately knowing.
and i'm thinking about this in the terms of supernatural monsters meant to embody predatory ideals, where they're singleminded, robotic, condensed violence and rage, in a way that any real predator isn't. and i'm thinking about this, because i'm realizing more and more that my themes and response to this in a narrative setting, is that this is actually a lot worse than the real-predator-who-only-succeeds-a-fraction-of-the-time. that, when it comes down to it, the messy, ugly, stupid, underwhelming reality is the one who's the superior of the two, and ignoring all the other factors and realities which make the real predator what it is, is not actually the benefit that it's often written to be in these fictional settings.

Here’s my take on the whole audio books vs. reading:
Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.
The actual difference is
when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names
when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
hope this helps!

@bitterrfruit art gave me this idea
Simon Riley with a "Do Not Resuscitate" tattoo across his chest, big and in bold, who put it there in hopes that it would be followed, though the tattoo holds no legal binding and unless you have a written DNR your doctors are required to ignore it
Simon Riley, who spent those years with the tattoo, thinking that no one would truly miss him, were the occasion to arise
Simon Riley, who gets a partner, becomes quite comfortable and content with said partner, to the point he's taking off his clothes.
Simon Riley, who doesn't even get to reach for his belt to finish changing when his partner gasps, and begins anxiously fretting over the tattoo, fingers tracing the bold letters, doe-like eyes staring into his damn soul and a lip worried between their teeth.
Simon Riley, who can't seem to close his eyes as his partner insists on clinging to him that night, their hand resting over his heart as it finally sinks in that he would be, in fact, missed were the occasion to arise.
Simon Riley anxiously googling how expensive and how much time a tattoo removal takes.
