Incidentally, the publisher that has the rights to the IDW Sonic comics in Spain is shutting down, so I have no clue what's going to happen to the licence of the series here.

I've never been gladder not to have started my collection yet (I've only ever gotten the 30th anniversary one-shots), which I didn't want to do because for the longest time they only published the main line and not the side-stories like Bad Guys or Imposter Syndrome. I think they started publishing them last year or so? (that's when I first saw them, at least), but I was still on the fence about starting the series because:

Ideally I'd prefer to buy the anthologies, and they didn't carry those in their catalogue. (I haven't bought them in English because they're expensive as is, plus shipping expenses, I'd do well to sell my kidney for it.)

They used to take a long-ass time to launch their editions. All the anniversary specials came out more than a year later than the English edition. The latest issue from the main line that they have is #59, which came out April 2023 in the US. Translating, lettering, etc takes time, of course, but c'mon.

As you might imagine due to the fact that they're shutting down, they're not the best at business. (For reference: they have the rights to publish DC in Spain. DC!!! All of motherfucking DC!!!! And yet their finances must have gotten so bad they're shutting down!!! WHILE HAVING BATMAN ON THEIR CATALOGUE). They've been criticised for shoddy editions and unreliable announcements before. On another note that matters to me specifically: they started publishing Chihayafuru in 2023 (I don't know what'll happen to that license now🥲), sparking a huge controversy due to a high price yet a serious margin issue that made the text bubbles on the inside margins impossible to read. They fixed it for the third volume onward, I believe, but there was no second edition for the first couple of volumes. The people who bought them were just stuck with it.

In the end, I'm glad I didn't buy anything other than one-shots from them because, well, I'd just have an eternally unfinished collection.

But who knows who'll pick Sonic up, when or if any other publisher will. And the Knuckles 30th Anniversary Special that came out last November... That stings, I won't lie. I suppose I'll see if there's any EU store where I can buy it in English.

I made a short visit to ECC Comics in Alicante Spain while on vacation there with my wife. Fun shop but nothing in english as almost no one in Spain speaks english.

ECC, the publishing house in charge of releasing over here IDW Sonic (among other things) just failed for bankruptcy.

So far the only ECC publishing right that has been publicly announced is DC, which has been swooped in by Panini who also has the publishing rights to Marvel, and they announced that they are gonna do a relaunch of all current series from the start to not alienate new readers.

Which tells me that (if) someone ends up getting the rights to IDW Sonic they are probably gonna do the same so it will take at least a year (probably more) to come back to #60 and we might not even get stuff like the mini-series and anuals again because, as I already talked before, those things hardly ever leave the US.

And like‚ yeah, I'm up to date with the comic as I read it online as it comes out in English, but it still, I loved collecting the issues and rereading them as they came out seeing the differences in translation and having the art in physical form, it became a highlight of my month...

Personally speaking‚ best case scenario‚ it's Norma Editorial who ends up with the rights, those guys are the ones in charge of every Nintendo book and manga release over here and they always put a great number of detail on their translations and releases for both Nintendo and Non Nintendo stuff.

The closest comparation I could make to what a Norma published Sonic would be it's probably the Adventure time comics as those where also published by them, we never got single issues, we only got compilations, but they where really good compilations, every comp included 5 issues‚ with their acompaning extra comics and different covers with a translation of everything‚ including notes at the bottom and secret codes, and we also got the extra series which was really nice.

I really wouldn't mind if IDW Sonic was published by these guys.

Second worst case scenario (worst one being it doesn't get picked up) it's Planeta comic, I've already talked about those guys before, these guys are basically the most bugget option, I have a few things published by them and they always cut corners whenever they can, their release of Gravity Falls lost legends was so disastrous that journal 3 & book of bill are being brought by Disney directly.

Lost legend & Journal 3 comparations:

A flimsier smaller softcover instad of a normal size hard cover.

They reused the translation they made for the Latin American release of the comic so it doesn't line up with the translation of the show.

None of the secret codes where translated.

If IDW Sonic ends up being published by them then gaia help me...

Middle case scenario is any other publishing house, we get the compilations with no extras, and an average translation.

ECCE sucked ass and I could go on and on about it but instead have this pic of my setup which was the one thing that I'm pretty dang proud of.

so if you're either of these people I talked to this past weekend, welcome to my shitposting blog where I talk way too much about a webtoon with way too much fame, buckle up (￣y▽,￣)╭

also yeah i'm not doing ECCE again jesus christ it was bad, like i've only done two conventions as an artist alley vendor so far and even i know this isn't how conventions are supposed to go

i made $55 over two days which isn't even half of what i spent for the table, and not a single print sold, just my $3-$5 omori stickers and a few zines that people generously tipped for

not me being a salty spitoon or anything, i'm not mad at the fact that people didn't buy my stuff, i'm mad that the organization of this event was so subpar it wasn't until halfway through it that i realized the red flags were on the wall because they had done ZERO marketing for the artist alley and the convention itself had nothing going on but a few panels

and two of the panels were literally the same thing, one was "how to be a comic artist" and the other was "how to be an indie comic artist" like i'm sorry whAT those are the saME-

sigh I'm so mad that my Rekindled update got pushed off for this. ECCE is absolutely on my "don't bother" shitlist now, esp considering other artists who've done it before have attested to the fact that this was par for the course. Absolutely not worth it, not even for someone like me living on the bottom wrung of the webcomic industry LMAO I feel so bad for all the other artists I saw sitting around with nothing to do two days in a row, it's 10x more exhausting to sit around with nothing to do and it really showed by the end of the weekend because every artist who I checked up on said they just wanted to go home, for all the reasons you shouldn't be hearing at a comic convention.

I've got Art on the Bridge tomorrow. I'm suddenly way more optimistic that this one will go well despite it not being my usual kind of scene at all.

Genuinely so sorry to you all there wasn't a Rekindled episode tonight. The expo wasn't worth it.

Hi! I was curious to ask if there are other media you enjoy? (may be animated and/or with irl actors, videogames, books/comics ecc) side note: despite my ignorance about Baldur's Gate story and characters, i find xan and radri so cute and soft and i enjoy every of their interactions through your works 💗 so is radri your oc? how you came up with her character?

very casually, as in i don't know all the lore and don't stay updated: dragon age, stardew valley, morrowind/oblivion, taskmaster uk/nz. i've also been trying to read more but it is such a pain trying to find books without romance jumpscares

radri's my player character in bg1/2, and i'm never sure if i can really call player characters oc's since they already have an entire plot structured around them, but her personality/appearance are from me at least :') i made her in a similar way to how i made cela--by taking the dialog choices that made the most sense to me as a player piloting a character with the provided backstory, using those to roughly sketch out a personality, and then considering their dynamic with their love interest from there

the basis of radri's personality, though, came from my dislike of the bias i perceived in xan's romance towards a player character who was unfailingly optimistic, cheerful, smiling, happy, confident, always telling him to cheer up and smile, etc. i wanted someone who would never tell him to "smile, xan!"--someone who was tentative, quiet, nervous, strong-but-also-kinda-pathetic in her own way. and thus radri came to be.

i really like the way her social anxiety plays with him, and her response to his confession remains one of my favorites, because xan essentially annoyed radri into overriding her anxiety and being the most frank with him she'd ever been up to that point. i just feel like the nature of their personalities means he really pushes her at times, in positive ways, and she pushes him in return, making him confront/reflect on aspects of himself that are clearly suited for solitude rather than partnership
