Last month, reports began to circulate that Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation will not have a presence at E3 2023. The absence of those three could complicate the event's success, but it seems at least one major player in the industry will be in attendance. During an earnings call today, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the publisher plans to be at the show this year, provided that it takes place. That doesn't sound like the most confident response, but it could give Ubisoft a big venue to showcase its games! "If E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show," said Guillemot. E3 was once the biggest show of the year for the video game industry, and some of the biggest titles of all-time have been revealed at past shows. However, things have started to change over the last few years. In 2019, PlayStation pulled out of the show, though Nintendo and Microsoft both attended. In 2020, the show was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, an all-digital event was held, but 2022 had neither an in-person show nor a digital event. E3 2023 is supposed to be the first in-person E3 event since 2019, but it's understandable that some publishers might be skeptical.⚡️🍿🍿🎮🎮 #comiccon #spoilermagazine #news #losangeles #podcast #magazine #art #instagram #galaxy #film #tv #hollywood #feature #movies #fandom #graphicdesign #nyc #spoiler #comicconradio #comicbooks #ubisoft #gaming #gamer #e3 #game (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4sfmwLzBy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Entertainment Software Association has officially cancelled E3 2020 due to concerns over the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. They're exploring options for an "online experience" to showcase industry announcements in June 2020.
After careful consultation with our member companies regarding the health and safety of everyone in our industry – our fans, our employees, our exhibitors, and our longtime E3 partners – we have made the difficult decision to cancel E3 2020, scheduled for June 9-11 in Los Angeles.
Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented global situation. We are very disappointed that we are unable to hold this event for our fans and supporters. But we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today.
Our team will be reaching out directly to exhibitors and attendees with information about providing full refunds.
We are also exploring options with our members to coordinate an online experience to showcase industry announcements and news in June 2020. Updates will be shared on E3Expo.com.
We thank everyone who shared their views on reimagining E3 this year. We look forward to bringing you E3 2021 as a reimagined event that brings fans, media, and the industry together in a showcase that celebrates the global video game industry.

E3 to be canceled after coronavirus fears, exhibitor pullouts
Tumblr media
In last month’s gaming podcast, we wondered if E3 would even be taking place this year, but now we know: it’s not.
Multiple sources are reporting that the Entertainment Software Association will be pulling the plug on the yearly event for the first time since it started in the 1990s.
Developers are also advising their fans to cancel plans to travel to the event as coronavirus fears have forced the closure and cancellation of a number of big events, including GDC and SXSW.
We’re expecting the big three (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) to at the very least have digital presentations this June in place of an E3 appearance, as Nintendo has a sequel to Breath of the Wild on the way and both Microsoft and Sony have new consoles expected to launch this fall/winter... at least, for now.

Game Developers Conference 2020 has been postponed to Summer 2020 due to concerns over the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March.
Having spent the past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors, and event partners, we're genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you at this time .
We want to thank all our customers and partners for their support, open discussions and encouragement. As everyone has been reminding us, great things happen when the community comes together and connects at GDC. For this reason, we fully intend to host a GDC event later in the summer. We will be working with our partners to finalize the details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.
For more information, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Q&A
Q: I am a current GDC 2020 paid conference or expo registrant – now the event is not taking place in March, can I receive a refund of my pass money?
A: If you are a currently registered paid passholder, you will be receiving an email about your registration status and any next steps regarding refunds, which conference and expo attendees will be receiving in full.
Q: What is the situation with hotels if I booked through the GDC hotel website/room blocks?
A: Individuals who have made hotel reservations inside the GDC room block will not have to pay penalties or fees associated with their reservations. More information on next steps will be available early next week.
Q: What is happening to the talks that would have been presented at Game Developers Conference 2020?
A: In order to allow our conference speakers to still participate in the event, we are intending to make many of the presentations that would have been given at GDC 2020 available for free online. After speakers (optionally) contribute their talks in video format, they will be distributed on the GDC YouTube channel and the free part of GDC Vault.
Q: What is happening to the Independent Games Festival and Game Developers Choice Awards – will they still take place?
A: We also intend to stream a set of these GDC 2020 talks and the Independent Games Festival and Game Developers Choice Awards via Twitch during the week that the event would have taken place in San Francisco (March 16 to 20), so that our community can continue to honor and celebrate its best games.
