I wonder how much the initial rejection of Carly Rae Jepsen with “Call me Maybe” was because of the early 2010s climate of neoliberal conservativism

#blog #just thinking about how everyone around me called that song ‘stupid’ when it first came out #and how she blew up when E•mo•tion dropped #but also that album blew up because of its references back to 80’s pop which is arguably a different kind of conservative movement?#but also that move was against the conservative standard at the time and the 80s serves as a model for a more ‘progressive’ political moment #but it was arguably a move backwards…#anyway i missed my train and i have half an hour so im thinking abt. pop music
