it sort of blows my mind (i mean not literally it's just sort of me being really jaded) that fan made ports of games like duke3D and Doom are like far superior than the completely cursed "retail" versions on steam by like Bethesda and Gearbox. The Bethesda Unity port is actually like fine in comparion to the absolutely awful Duke Nukem 3D 20th Anniversary World Tour edition of the game.
like the old xbla versions that got me into those games were waaaaaay better too. Is this a current thing where these companies are just doing bare minimum now to hold on to IPs or like what the heck? I was for some reason compelled to try to play this Duke 3D world tour edition tonight and it just really sucks.
it's so floaty and the audio is garbage and things like secret flagging and opening doors with keys and stuff just plain don't work sometimes???
how on earth did this get released and WHY was it going for like $20???
iirc i did *not* pay for this version of the game and holy if i did sooooo shame on me because it's a total scam.
Nightdive right now is like the only company i sort of trust with these ports now. (Quake is really good and i hear Quake 2 is too)
And even then, Atari was like causing all sorts of issues with their version of Blood for a while and they weren't allowed to work on it, after releasing it in a kind of poor state.
even though i hated it, the shadow warrior classic redux was something that grew on me too but that's also a small company so i kind of get it. but it's not nearly as awful as GEARBOX a huge company just releasing a $20 pos version of Duke 3D.
anyway yeah weird long rant for no reason i guess.
i'm just mad at capitalism and just video games in general just being bad and not fun for the most part these days.

Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour (Switch) | Review
Duke Nukem has been kicking alien ass since the early nineties, but he really made his name in the critically-acclaimed shooter Duke Nukem 3D. 3D Realms had a masterpiece on their hands, as it was running on a more powerful…Read more

Modern Gaming: Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour (Nintendo Switch) Review
A new edition of Modern Gaming Reviews is up as we take a look at the remastered of Duke Nukem 3D on Nintendo Switch. We might be at the end of the summer, but it’s still August and there are many games based on the season to enjoy. Now, Ol’ Duke for years was an afterthought for me since the series never followed the traditional badass space mariner. It must have something to do with the usual 90s action heroes not being as interesting as their 80s counterparts. People by that time must have grown tired of the typical American fighting jacked up guy taking out hundreds of henchmen. There is so much of going to the well too many times that story writers could do in TV and film before viewers get tired of the same tropes. Did that stop many studios from producing the typical action hero? No but it did lead to better ways to introduce these action heroes as seen by Jason Bourne and John Wick. They weren’t the typical jack up guy but rather specialists and if not, assassins who could take on several people in a believable manner. Now, DN3D was a game I will admit was never into considering Golden Eye and the Turok series became my “go to” games. As you can tell the hype of Golden Eye shielded me from actually enjoying Duke. Even though Rare’s famous Bond shooter was a hit, this also hindered me from enjoying Quake and Doom 64. It’s a good thing these classic FPSs are easy to find today when considering most older games are now digital. There have been many releases I skipped due to my casual gamer thinking unlike now. I might not be the best player when it comes to shooters but as a seasonal gamer there is much to appreciate about Ol’ Duke and Quake. Duke Nukem 3D composer Bobby Prince has filed a lawsuit against Gearbox Software, Randy Pitchford, and Valve for copyright infringement, alleging he owns the rights to music used in Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour without his permission.
He claims Randy Pitchford lied (big shock) when promising to "take care" of Prince and his royalties request. According to the filing, Gearbox was fully aware that Prince owned the music, but used it without contacting him and refused to take it down.
Randy Pitchford accused of dishonesty again? Who would have thought!?
