It was a very full day with 65 seventh and eighth graders visiting this morning for more than two hours followed by our Ghostly Readings presentation where staff read the Ghost Walk scripts from this year. It was a beautiful, though unseasonably warm, day outside, so I was able to take a walk to my favorite coffee shop for a pumpkin spice latte which I enjoyed while reading more of Ron Powers' biography of Mark Twain this afternoon.

Took several months to record on-and-off, but I've finished the longest chapter of my Princess Bride audiobook! Detailing Buttercup's capture all the way to the Fire Swamp, with backstories for Inigo and Fezzik not seen in the film!

My Immortal is probably one of the most (in)famous fanfiction on the entire internet. With it's strange history, nonsensical writing, and endless edginess, My Immortal has become a beloved staple of cringe culture fans, goffik and prep alike.

It's something my friend @boba-tea-princess is passionate about, and something @flooptheorange and I have always admired about them, and it gave me the sick idea of "hey, what if you, floop, and I, the Baka Bitches, cringemaster extreme trio, what if we read our beloved tome together, fully, not just for the lols of reading it but for the passion that runs through our silly little bones for this amazingly bad literature?"

And thus, our baby is born!! Today, we proudly present to you, the first part of many of our My Immortal Reading series.

"The Moon to My Stars" (Script by u/daisywritesscripts) - Behind the Audio

I wanted to do this one because I resonated a lot with the line "I just find immense comfort in the sky, I love everything to do with it."

The audio starts with the listener hiding in a quiet room with a skylight and direct view of the night sky. It's an escape from the booming music of the house party they were dragged into attending.

I relate a lot to this premise, since I find loud and crowded situations very overstimulating, and tend to avoid them when I can! (Although I succumb to FOMO every so often anyway -w-).

I decided to use (royalty free) reggaetón as the background party music for the audio, as opposed to the more common EDM/House music. Reggaetón is more of the style of pop music I grew up around, but can obviously still be overstimulating to me. (If you don't know what reggaetón is, remember Despacito by Luis Fonsi? It's that genre, basically lmao).

I think it's really funny that the speaker in the script supposedly helped organize the party, but ditches it with their newfound lover anyway.

In the second scene, the two newfound lovers drive over to a lookout point over the city just before sunrise. In the audio, I recorded all of the car sounds except for the car door closing, since when I tried to record my own car door, it came out really badly clipped and distorted! All of the ambience (city sounds, morning birds) are just loops from Splice.

I love the idea of "waking up before the city" in general, where I actually get to enjoy the morning at my own pace (as opposed to having to get up early for work -w-).

So I think being with someone long enough into the night to see the sunrise is such an intimate thing. Everyone is just getting up while the two of you are sharing secrets and not wanting to let go of the moment.

All in all, this audio came out a bit better than I expected, since I don't think I gave the best vocal performance, but the SFX really helped in the end. I think the lovers get together a little too fast in the script, but hey, it's a comfort audio, it's meant to be a bit idealized, isn't it?!
