It all began that one evening when you, the youngest sister, were allowed to go outside by yourself on an errand. You were deemed old enough, and finally after months of persuasion, your father had given in to not sending your older brother with you.
Your cloak on your head, you walk back home with your hands stuffed with bread and dresses for the dinner held at your home tonight. With you focused on getting home before nightfall, you failed to notice a gang of hooligans tailing you. It was only until their laughs registered in your brain did you turn around and sensing danger, sped up your pace.
“Where ya goin’, pretty girl?” One of them called, his voice giving away his being drunk. “Home to your lover?”
“I betcha we’d be be’er tha’ him!”
“Come with me, I’ll give ya a taste of life,” another hooted.
“Leave me alone.”
You turn into a corner that was a shortcut to your house, slightly panicking as you see the sky-blue of the evening morph into golden streaks of dusk, but you felt your cloak being pulled at and they spun you around.
“Wanna be alone with us?”
“Go away.” You, ever the boldest, growl at them.
“Oh look, pretty girl can talk. How ‘bout you give somma your bread and we’ll let ya go?”
“It’s not for you, your idiots.”
“I betcha look hot in tha’ dress dancin’ wi’ us.” One leered next to you, and his hands come closer to your body. “We only wan’ pleasure, darlin’. Now be a good lass and come wi’ us.”
“You don’t get to tell me what to do and what not. I can cut your hands right here, and now!”
Dropping your goods and plunging out your knife from the satchel that your sister insisted on keeping with you, you scream and slice the arm of the nearest bandit.
“Bitch!”
As you try to make your next move, a knee to your stomach sends you to the ground, and a slap that follows suit makes your cheek hurt as if it had collided against a rock. You groan in pain and you feel your knife pried from your fingers.
“I love bold lasses, y’know, hun” the first one snapped his fingers near you, his eyes assessing what you tried to hide under your cloak. “An’ we own ya. We coul’ do wanever we wan’ and ya can’t say nothin’.”
“I beg to differ.”
A third voice emerged, clean and crisp, and by the sound of it, a young man.
“Hey, wanna share the spoils wi’ us? I get tha’-”
Before he could complete, you try to cower against this newcomer, you close your eyes against your inevitable fate.
While you expected another new jab, you were surprised to hear yells and thuds of fists against bone.
“You know, it’s against law to harass young ladies. I could have you charged for that.” That clean voice sounded amused. “But you’re too weak and useless for my time.”
“Sorry, sorry, le’ us go-”
“Next time, you lay a sight on a girl who’s not yours, I’ll make sure you never have sight again. Now you have five seconds to leave.”
As you open your eyes to get a sight on your saviour, you are met by a young man in all black, his white hair contrasting the attire. You couldn’t get a closer look, since he had a scarf wrapped around his lower face and shades on his eyes, and his face was turned sideways while he trailed the bandits’ steps.
While you stare at him, you try to stand up, but a groan escapes you owing to the previous blow you suffered.
His face immediately turns to you, and while at first his face was impassive, with a tinge of fury in the way his mouth curled in disgust, the scrunch between his eyebrows eases as he bends to your level on one knee.
“I’m sorry you had to see that. I don’t lose control that often.” He rubbed his knuckles. “Are you hurt?”
“No, thank you. Are you hurt, though?”
He chuckled softly, and he pulled down the scarf covering his face. “I’m the strongest in all the kingdom. They couldn’t hurt me, even if they wanted to.”
“Thank you for saving my life.”
“Ah, don’t go flattering me around. It was my duty.” He extended a hand.
You hold on to his hand as he gently pulls you up.
Your eyes stray to the goods that were strewn onto the floor, none of them luckily spoiled beyond use, and while you bend again to pick it up, another pair of gloved hands assist you.
“I’ll assist you. You must not bend down.”
As you shake your head no, he sighs and helps you out, the silence settling between you two.
Peeking from the point of your hood, you get a closer look at your saviour.
His white hair blew in the wind, and his face seemed much gentler and kinder now that he wasn’t fighting. What attracted you the most were his eyes, that you could now clearly see, him having discarded the shades blocking his eyes.
His eyes were captivating. No, you thought, I need a word stronger than just captivating. The most breath-taking pair of eyes you’ve ever seen in your short lifetime. Those eyes, and their dazzling blue light made you want to stare and stare for all eternity, never to get tired of this gorgeous sight.
A detail you had failed to notice earlier was his badge, that peeked out from his chest pocket.
He’s a knight?
After handing you the last basket, he stood up. “What’s your name?”
“Y/N, sir.”
“Which family do you belong to?”
“I’m not a noblewoman, sir.”
“Incorrect answer. I asked you, to which family you belong.”
“I am from the Blackfyre family, sir.”
“Blackfyre…” he rubbed his chin as he tried to recollect, and suddenly his eyes spread wide. “The owners of the Seven Suns?”
“Yes,” you reply, surprised that he was familiar with the name of your family hotel. It was more like a pub, where people all over town and beyond are free to come dine, dance and drink. It has also been the place for several conferences held in secret.
“Then, dear lady, let’s get you going home.”
“I’m fine, thank you sir. I-I can make it back by myself.”
“No need to go around saying ‘sir’,” he waved a hand. “and I disagree. It’s nightfall, and it’s not wise to let a beauty like you walk alone.” He bent to her level and grinned. “And neither is it wise to reject an offer of help from a dashing young man.”
You can’t help but giggle slightly, and the moment you say yes, he pulls his horse standing just outside, and while you tried to convince him to take the stallion, he simply refused and helped you up.
The rest of the journey was relatively quieter, and quicker, seeing your house was just on a walking distance from the point of the incident.
“What were you doing out here, anyway?” he asked. “It’s rare to not be accompanied by a man.”
“I was out to run some errands. We are having a dinner tonight.”
“I see.”
You consider for a second. “Would you like to join us?”
“Oh no, thank you. I’m a busy man, so I am needed somewhere else today.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Apart from my hand in marriage, go ahead.”
You grin, feeling the knot of fear dissolving into boldness. He was unlike any knight you’ve ever met. Bold, confident, and jolly, not to forget, strong enough to take five men down by himself. “I didn’t ask your name. What house are you from, sir?”
“Why’d you assume I’m from a great house?”
“Your way of speaking and talking gives it away, sir.”
“Good observation. However, I am not that grand as you might assume. Let’s play a guessing game. If you guess my clan, I’ll tell you my first name. Hint: it’d sound good with your name.”
“That’s not very helpful, sir.”
“Why would you want to know, though?” he tilted his head to look at you. “If you wanna come visit me, I can take you.”
You blush. “It’s not that. I’m just curious.”
“You’ve heard of curiosity kills the cat? Well, kitten, what’s life without a little mystery?”
You laugh loud, and your eyes immediately catch the lights shining from your house. You point to it, and within five steps of the destination, the knight stops his horse, takes the goods out of your hand onto the road and puts out a hand for you to hold on to while you jump.
You could see your parents wave at you and rush downstairs to the door. You turn back to see your unnamed saviour one last time.
“Thank you, kind sir. I don’t know how I will ever repay you.”
He bowed. “Young miss, you don’t need to worry about that. It’s what I do. However, as for coming to visit me, the doors of my house are always open to you.”
You smile. “Will I ever see you again, sir…?”
“Gojo.” He smiles back. “And get yourself in trouble again and I will be your gallant saviour for the damsel in distress.”
The moment the door of your house is thrown open and your parents rush down, calling your name.
“Sweetheart, where have you been? I heard you’ve been-”
They look behind you and fall to one knee. You turn around to see Ser Gojo standing behind you, smiling serenely.
“Mother, he saved me.” you whisper to your mother, who was confused as to why her ordinary daughter was with a respectable knight.
“Sir, we are obliged to you. Thank you.” Your father goes ahead and bends down again. “We would like to show our gratitude by inviting you to our dinner.”
“As much as I am tempted, I need to take my leave.” He replied, polite and calm. “Goodbye.”
As he turned around, you look at him one more time and hope that somehow, fate will cross your paths again.
You hoped that the day come, when you’ll be his, and he’ll be yours.
******
That night you had become an instant celebrity at your house. Your entire family circled around you, your form wrapped in a blanket and coffee cup steaming in your hands, late at midnight, as you retold the story of your rescue. While your parents were terrified at the prospect of you getting into a grand mess, your siblings wouldn’t stop fawning over the fact that that knight rescued you. You, who couldn’t keep a secret from your family to save your life, told each and every bit of chatter you exchanged, until you got to the name question.
At that point, you remembered.
“Mother, do you know who he is? He only told me his last name, but you two knelt upon seeing him.”
“He’s Satoru Gojo, one of the finest knights this kingdom has ever produced. His fame extends beyond Westeros, and there is not a single fight he hasn’t won.” Your father answered with deep awe in his voice. “He is the youngest person to ever make it to the role of Ser, and he’s not from any big house.”
“The Gojo family is fairly powerful, but not as much as the Targaryens and Starks.” Your sister added.
“How come I’ve never seen him earlier around here?”
“That’s because he came to Sunspear this week.” Your brother, who happened to have knights as friends, told you.
“Well, I guess we can all conclude that we’re deeply grateful to him. Otherwise goodness knows what could have happened to you.” Mother wrapped it all up and stood to pick the tray of coffee. “But from now on, you’re not going alone.”
“What, why?” you splutter.
“Haven’t you gotten your lesson today? Satoru Gojo will not be around every time you get cornered. You will be accompanied by one of us, got it?”
“But mom-”
“That’s final.”
As you look to your father for help, he crossed his hands. “You work with me at the hotel in the day, so I’ll be with you. On days off, you can go out alone only if you return till dusk, since none of us are free during that time. For any errand later than that, one of us will be with you. Got it?”
“Yeah.”
For all that you shared with your family, you dare did not tell anyone that somewhere, in a corner of your heart, you yearned to be loved by him.
Your sister noted, of course, but preferred not to say anything. Before turning out the lamps of your shared room, you asked her.
“Sister, has he ever come to Seven Suns?”
“You know I’m not generally around here, but as of yet, no. You have something for him, right?”
You sigh.
“Look. It’s not a sin to love. And someone who saved your life, even more so. But remember, never to cross lines to get him. Men are beings with honour, and they do not like honourless people. If he will be yours, trust fate.”
“Yeah,” you respond. Easier said than done.
“And remember. Only fairy-tales have happy endings, but reality is, you’re not meant to be.” Her eyes held pity as she told you something you deep-inside feared. “He’s a knight, from a respectable family, and you’re…you’re the girl who serves the drinks. In other words, he’s got everything, and you’re-”
“Nothing,” you bit out. “I know. Thanks for telling.”
******
Over the next few days, you found it hard to believe it was mere coincidence.
Your mornings and evenings were spent at the hotel where you served the drinks and newspapers to the people bringing life to the place amidst the seriousness of life. But whenever your parents sent you on shopping, or the neighbours, whether someone was with you or not, your sixth sense would make you turn your head in a particular direction and you always found Satoru Gojo near you. Every single time you were out.
Even in his helmet, his blue eyes were unmistakable, as if he wanted you to find him, but he never made eye contact. Whether it be the newspaper stand, or the fruits stall, or going to give your sister at work some lunch, he would always be within your sight.
As much as you wanted to converse with him, you knew you can’t cross limits and risk the entire city making rumours about you.
It wasn’t until late one night when you had taken over your father’s job due to him being unwell that you heard a ruckus outside the door. You raise your head to see a group of knights enter and take the table nearest to you. You are about to order the other waiters to go and take their orders when you look at them and halt.
A knight had just removed his helmet to be Gojo.
You diverted your attention back to cleaning the glasses while you try not to feel too bubbly and giddy. A hand taps at your desk and you look up to see him.
“Remember me?”
“No, I don’t.” you fake with him, forgetting that his station is way higher than yours.
“Your handsome saviour, Satoru Gojo.” He made a fake bow. “I’m not that forgettable, though.”
“I happen to have a short memory.” You reply.
“Well, it looks like we met again.”
“But I’m not in trouble.”
“Atta girl, I knew you were faking forgetting me.” he laughed, his voice sounding warm and sweet to you, making you want to wish he’d never stop laughing. You wanted to be the reason he laughed. “And when I’m around, there’s always trouble nearby.”
“Well, I beg to differ. What would you like, though?”
He ordered a few drinks from your list, and you counted them to be one less. You look up.
“That’s one less.”
“Oh, you have a good eye. Well, I won’t take anything.”
“Should I bring something else for you?”
“Oh no, thank you.”
“May I ask,” you question, hand busy stirring up the golden liquid they ordered, “why won’t you take anything?”
He leaned his elbow on the counter. “I’m out of cash.”
“I find it hard to believe. And if you want it, say the word. It’s on the house.”
He was called by his comrades for a game when he winked at you and departed for the table.
When you put them on a tray, he leapt up, ignoring the way other customers looked at him. “Let me take them.”
“No, thank you sir. This is my duty.” And you set it on the table.
“So you’re the girl he won’t shut up about,” one of the knights addressed you, smirk on his face. Your eyes darted to the ‘he’ in question, who was looking at you with the most interested expression.
“I am the bartender’s daughter, after all. Everyone knows me.”
“Well played, lassie.” The knight roared with glee, as the drinks were passed around.
“Y’know,” a black-haired knight leaned in as if telling a secret, while his voice suggested otherwise, “why he ain’t taking any drinks?”
“It’s because I lost all money feeding you good-for-nothings,” Satoru shot at him.
“You and getting broke? I don’t buy it. Well, it’s because he’s a lightweight.”
“What?” you asked, confused.
“He can handle the arena, but can’t handle a drink!” the knight burst into laughter, and slowly the entire table including you joined in the chuckles.
For the first time ever, you enjoyed the night shift, because all the time he was there, the hotel erupted in laughter, the source being Satoru, and he seemed to dominate everyone as he brought a new life and soul to the party.
You hadn’t conversed with him after that jab, but three hours later when his group stood to take their leave, you stopped yourself from calling out to him to stay. His men left the payment on their table, and you saw him add something else to the bag of coins. Once they left, you walked to pick it up and count, to find twenty more coins than the actual amount and a little flower resting in there with a note.
A gift of gratitude to our kind host :) Don’t think about returning it!
You smiled, and muttered under your breath, “I knew he wasn’t out of cash.”
Things seemed to change for you after that night, sparking a flare of hope in your ordinary, not-so-fairy-tale life. You still found him whenever you went outside, but every time you saw him, he’d be looking at you and would gently smile upon eye contact. As if he’s smiling at someone he’s known all his life.
Every alternate night, the same group of knights with a few more friends would visit your hotel, and every single time, Satoru Gojo would come up to you and make you laugh like no one ever had. Every time they’d leave, a small present awaited you, the most precious yet being a ring. Occasionally, when his entire friend group would be too drunk to actually notice, he’d sit by your counter and talk about his day. At first you didn’t talk back that much, but slowly and steadily you opened up, telling him all your joys and fears and pains.
But never the fact that you loved him.
However, you began to take into account another thing. Ever since he made frequent appearances at your place, girls of nobler families would flock the gates and pool into the Seven Suns, vying for the table closest to him and batting eyelashes and giggling at his jokes and stories. While at first you didn’t mind it that much, seeing his popularity, and the fact he still took out time for you, you couldn’t ignore the pang of jealousy that flooded you when you saw him laughing and joking and chatting with them. You wanted to be the one he’d talk to. The girls slowly limited the very limited time you already had with him.
You hated the hypocrisy of this. The noble ladies, with more chances of getting him, loved him for his face, or his station, or his wealth. You loved him for his nature. For who he was inside. Your love was true. It wouldn’t end, even if he were to be a pauper. Why can’t you be given him, when your love is the truest?
At these moments, your sister’s words rang in your head. Those girls had a stronger chance of being his than you. You two are not meant to be.
Even knowing this bitter truth, you couldn’t bring yourself to not love him. Logic and common sense fails when it comes to matters of the heart.
*******
For the past few days, Satoru Gojo had not stopped by your hotel. At first you thought he may be busy, but when his friends came by and he didn’t, you started to get worried if you had offended him in any way.
The seventh night of his absence, your father had run out of fruits, so he sent you to go and purchase them. Evidently he was occupied mentally because he had forgotten to send someone with you.
On your way home, you hear a sound to your left, like someone snapped their fingers.
“Y/N?”
You spun around to see Satoru, leaning against a wall, a carefree smirk on his handsome face. Work be damned, you leapt to him, thankful for your cloak.
“Hi! Where have you been? Did I offend you?”
“Oh gracious, no. You could never offend me,” he winks, earning a relieved sigh from you. “I have been practicing, actually.”
“For what?”
“The tourney. You know, the one happening at the end of this week?”
“Yes, of course.” Why wouldn’t you, when this was the rage of the town, and you happen to work at a hotel which held more secrets and gossips than any man alive? “You don’t need to practice for that though. You’d win anyway.”
He grinned. “Betting all your money on me?”
“You bet.”
“Well,” he ran his hand through his hair, “will you come to the tourney? To see me?”
The previous night, you had had a discussion with your siblings, and your entire family had agreed to go watch one of the greatest events of Sunspear, but you were still not sure about going. However, the way he said to see me? cleared all doubts in your head.
“Of course, I will. How else will I bet my money on you?”
“Well, see you there, then.”
“Good luck, fair Ser.” You bid him as he climbed his horse.
He saluted at you, taking his hat off. “Thank you, dear lady. Though, I don’t believe in luck. I make my own luck.”
You laugh softly, running back to the hotel, at this cocky knight.
“Where have you been?” Your father whispered angrily at you.
“Slipped,” you replied, dumping your shopping, “and I am going to the tourney.”
******
The entire arena was buzzing with excitement as you and your family took their places in the crowd, all of you chattering excitedly about your predictions for the winner. Even your parents wore large grins as they heard you siblings talk to each other.
When the host lord came to give his welcome address, the contest’s style was announced to be a multi-round jousting match, where the players were pitted in pairs. The loser forfeited their horse and armour, and the winner goes to the next round.
When the players were announced, you cheered the hardest for Ser Gojo. To your chagrin, a lot of other feminine voices – including ladies from your hotel – joined in welcoming him.
It was a nail-biting competition, since every single participant had seemed to take the prospect of victory to their heart. At moments the entire arena echoed with screams of glee, and at others groans of disappointment, and it was evidence of their competency that the games extended to the next day. Your parents had gone to take their needed nap, while you and your siblings were energized to watch the results.
By the second day’s afternoon, the final joust had come.
One was a knight from Godsgrace, of House Allyrion, and his opponent was Ser Satoru Gojo, both of them seated firmly at their horses, their lances in their hands. You bring your hands to your lips and pray for his victory.
The battle was one of equal strength, both fighters switching between offense and defence, not letting the other even so much as touch them. The clanging sound of metal against metal, one yell against the other, horses’ hooves stomping against the hard earth had everyone on their toes.
Satoru, quite like his nature, was resorting to small and quick bursts, intercepting the other horse’s circle route, and using cartwheels and flips to evade the lance attacks, while the Allyrion knight was a surge of raw power, an element of rage and unbridled strength in his attacks.
The fight seemed more like a choreographed dance, them swaying to the tune of the rush of blood in their veins, stepping backwards and forwards in step with the thrown lances. No person in the stands was more invested in anything else.
The balance tilted when the Allyrion knight jumped from his horse and tackled Satoru to the ground. The entire ground gasped at this dangerous act, and while the Allyrion began showering punches, the pinned fighter didn’t let go of his agility as he swiftly darted between the attacks. This game finally stopped when Satoru rammed his forehead against the opponent, and buying himself time, he used his lance as a spear in the ground, Satoru threw his legs up, flipped himself back with fluidity and braced himself against the upper hand of the Allyrion knight.
It seemed he was tired already, since he was letting the Allyrion knight hit him again and again, not even bothering to hit him back. While the crowd watched in tense silence, wondering if he was actually done or if he was waiting for a window, at first even the opponent seemed to hesitate, but then, he began playing ruthlessly and gave it all he got in his blows, forcing Satoru to try to defend himself while injured as he was pushed backwards.
“What is he doing?” you whisper to your equally tense brother, your hands shaking.
“He’s still got hope. Look, he’s still standing, and the lance ain’t broken.”
You stare in horror, as he swayed back, and – did you imagine the manic gleam in his eyes and his smile? – the Allyrion raised his lance above his head. Bearing no more, you close your eyes.
A whistle, and a huge uproar forced you to open your eyes to the most amazing sight.
Your knight was seated above his horse, a smile decorating his face as he signals it to run across the ground in a circle, the opponent knight running after him to try and hit him down, the fury of defeat surging his speed. Two laps later, Satoru jumps down again with precision, and before the knight could reduce his momentum, Satoru landed a well-aimed kick onto his knees to send him crashing to the ground.
Blood sprayed from his nose, and this time it was Satoru who went easy on his opponent while he tried to recollect himself and get back on ground. While the arena boomed with screams and thunders of jubilation, Satoru used this opportunity to dance around the dazed fighter, laughing every time he dodged a slurred attack, until finally using the exhaustion, he made his final strike, amidst the roaring cheers of the crowd, to deliver a strike of his lance to smash the Allyrion’s weapon into splinters.
A silence of two seconds prevailed, after which the announcer’s voice broke it.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have our champion – Ser Satoru Gojo.”
You screamed like crazy as you stood up, tears of joy spilling down your eyes as you clapped and clapped with the uncontrolled audience, while to the centre of the stadium the winner was led, not caring if your hands begin bleeding from the force you smashed them against with.
You halted when you saw him being handed a crown of blue roses. With a devilish grin, he mounted his horse and began circling the crowd from the direction opposite to you. You, who had to clutch your stomach against the butterflies suddenly emerging, heard the noble ladies whisper excitedly.
“He’s going to name the queen of love and beauty!”
The title every girl dreams of being given. To have someone’s victory dedicated to. A once-in-a-lifetime honour.
As you hoped to the heavens that somehow, in a one in a million chance, it will be you, you can’t help but drown in the pool of despair that you two are not meant to be. Especially with so many contenders?
What did you have that they didn’t?
But you can’t bring yourself to believe all those nights, and conversations, and shared secrets were for nothing. For the first time, you hoped that maybe, the heavens will see your love’s sincerity.
He stopped when he was in front of the crowd where you were, five rows far from his location. At first he twirled the crown, smiling against the raucous screams of the girls facing him, until he sighed and got off his stallion. With a jerk of his head, the audience parted into two to let him pass to the girl he wished to crown his queen. He climbed the rows, girls’ faces darkening with disappointment every time he crossed them, until he stopped to the fifth row. Turning towards you, he placed the crown on your head.
Your world paused that instant.
So this is what it feels like to be in a fairy tale.
As the crowd around you erupted in cheers, your family’s voices dominating, he bent on a knee and took your hand, kissing it softly.
“I, Ser Satoru of House Gojo, name you as my Queen of Love and Beauty, and dedicate my victory to you.” He stood up, still holding your hand, the smile on his face not flirtatious or challenging, but pure, loving. “Come, let me boast my queen to all of Dorne to see.”
Still failing to believe it, you led yourself be guided by his hand, until at the foot of the arena he picked you up in his arms with one clean swoop. A giggle escaped you, as you head to the dazzling beauty of life.
That’s fate. Who would’ve thought the girl who served the drinks would get the man of her dreams?
Once he reached the centre of the stadium, setting you on your feet, the crowd showering coins and flowers on both of you, you whisper to him, “is this real? Or is it all a dream?”
“It’s a dream come true,” he answered, sincerity in his voice. “Just like you’re my dream come true, the way fate had me come all the way from Winterfell to get you.” He finally smiled with a cocky brow-raise. “Though, I must ask, why are you so surprised? I thought I had made my feelings for you quite clear.”
“You could’ve been more explicit. And how was I supposed to know that I would be chosen by everyone’s favourite? I’m nothing!”
“You are my fuckin’ favourite person, sweetheart, and you’re not nothing. You’re my everything.”
The way he gripped your hands, his forehead touching yours, had you believe that as long as he was with you, you would never be nothing. As long as he was with you, you will always know what it is like to be in a fairy-tale.
And as the two of you were carried out of the stadium with pomp and procession, you smiled at the still unbelievable thought that finally…
you’re his, and he’s yours.

Author's note: Hello, everyone, Zoya here! So there was a collaborative writing event hosted by @dragonscribble. The prompt I had chosen was 'You're my fuckin' favourite person, sweetheart' for a reader x Gojo Satoru story. This was my contribution to this. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
Dedication: A huge, huge thank you to all who read my work, but a special shoutout to my best friend, Nabiha, the greatest Gojo girl I know, who motivated me and rooted for me when even I didn't believe in myself, and without whom I couldn't have done this <3

Could You Love Me While I Hate Myself?
A Megumi Fushiguro x Reader story.
Summary: You and Megumi Fushiguro have been best friends since high school, and even though his Jujutsu life and your university limited your time together, you both maintained the friendship. When Megumi Fushiguro came to pick you up from your party, he did not expect to see you on the verge of tears.
“Hey, y/n, what’s wrong?” his voice stepped down to a gentle, soft tone, and his heart broke as you clenched your eyes tighter, the night failing to mask a tear that rolled down your face.
“Can we go home, please?” you whispered, voice breaking. “I’ll tell you there.”
“Of course.”
********
You two knew each other since high school, you being a late admission one month in the session. Megumi, ever the introverted and serious kid, thought you were annoying at first, when you were told to be seated next to him. You were the bubbly and sunshine kid, everyone loving your company and smiling nature.
Though you were mediocre in studies, you had a flair for languages, and hearing you speak fluently in several languages, especially Japanese, amazed Megumi. While he tried to avoid you at times, your helpful nature, especially when you would bring him something to eat on days he forgot his lunch, how you sat by him in comfortable silence, somehow sensing his need of someone to be with him, and the fact that while he was someone everyone was frightened of, you always seemed to find the best in him, to understand him, brought him closer to you.
As for you, while you first thought he was a handsome young man, you later fell harder, with his courage to stand up to bullies, the way he was always there for you in your high and lows, even his comfortable silence speaking volumes, him looking after you when you fell ill, and his dry sense of humour, honestly, what wasn’t there to love about him? But what amazed you the most was how much he cared. For all he pretended to be harsh, his actions proved what other people’s words couldn’t.
The three years of high school together cemented a strong friendship between the two of you, until you had to be separated by your differing lives.
You went off to university, and your best friend went off to Jujutsu High, which was, as you understood it, an institute teaching young sorcerers to battle curses.
Before leaving, you two promised to never let your friendship break. Through nightly calls and texts, and weekly meetups, just the two of you, sometimes at his dorm and sometimes at your hostel, you two maintained the bond you deeply cherished.
However, you now developed feelings for Megumi Fushiguro. Every time he smiled his rare smile at you, or quietly told you about his days at Jujutsu High, or gave you all his attention while you ranted about your tough university schedule, and for every little gift he gave you, your stomach would explode with butterflies.
For some hesitation, you wouldn’t admit it to him. Ever since you entered university, you have been more conscious of yourself. Seeing the other girls, you would judge yourself, your body, your face, your laugh, your way of walking and talking, your fashion sense, your career and wealth. The only thing you had more than them was your talking.
So you judged yourself. Megumi, a man with such beautiful graces and face, with a stable career, perfect, deserved someone better than you.
After all, who would want you as theirs?
Unbeknownst to you, Megumi Fushiguro did have a special place in his heart for you. He memorized the feeling of your hand in his, the way your lips curved before your pretty laughter rang out loud
But you were best friends, and nothing more. You two have been together for years, but what if you didn’t reciprocate his feelings? And he didn’t want this one confession to destroy the bond he strived to maintain. You had a right to choose anyone else to love, and knowing your social life, he feared you might have already chosen someone.
After all, who would want Megumi Fushiguro as theirs?
So the both of you accepted to hide your feelings until the other confessed, or until the time is right. You two were best friends. No more, no less.
While in university’s first year, you took other girls’ comments to heart and thought about transforming yourself, joining gyms or centres for this purpose. Upon knowing your intentions, Megumi spared no time in calling you.
“You’re perfect the way you are,” his calm voice had soothed you, “and if anyone fails to see for who you are, they don’t deserve you. Don’t change yourself to please someone else, okay?”
How did you deserve someone like him for a best friend?
In your second year, your classmate Everest Williams, captain of the basketball team took a liking to you. Though not as handsome as your best friend, he was fairly nice-looking, with his green eyes and golden locks and dimples. It surprised you that such a heartthrob should take a liking to you, especially seeing Leah Edwards, the girl he recently broke up with, a blonde haired girl with barbie physique, slim body and blue, crystal eyes. But the way he looked at you, as if you were the Sun, and how you would find handwritten notes in your locker with loving words from him, and his jolly laugh whenever you joked made you forget your ‘inferiority’.
Maybe he wasn’t like the others. Maybe he’d see you for more than your looks.
You told about him to Megumi when he first charmed you, you laughing your head off since you considered it nothing more than a prank. But as his acts and words became more frequent, you still confided everything about him in your best friend, hoping that if he harboured feelings for you, he might spill it.
But you and he, both were too shy to admit it.
But the truth was, you didn’t view Everest as a potential love interest. You just thought he was a nice guy.
And for all Everest did, you never let him limit the time you had with Megumi. That was where you drew the line. Your priorities were clear.
At the end of the year, the graduating seniors decided to throw a party for all batches to attend. It was more like a prom, where you were supposed to end up with a partner. And worse, they restricted it to only students of your university. No outsiders allowed.
So while at first you had decided not to go, the afternoon of the event when Everest asked you, you had a change of heart. You couldn’t say no to save your life, and you said yes.
When you told Megumi about your party in the evening, he stayed silent on the call.
“Megumi? You still there?”
The conflict inside him was visible on his face as in his room, he paced the room, thinking the next best response. This could be your chance to get someone better than him. And you must be happy, so he considered being selfless and prioritizing your joy over his. You are free, of course, to choose what you want to do.
But for once, he decided it’s okay to be selfish.
“Y/N, can I ask you a favour?”
“Why not.”
“Please don’t go.”
You halted, your shoulder and ear balancing the phone and your hands in the process of picking out your dress. “Why?”
“I – I just-” you could hear him rummage his hand through his hair. “Never mind. I just want you to be happy, okay?”
“Megumi, you’re going to make me cry right now,” you joked, your hand reaching for your red dress you adored. “Do you have a mission tonight?”
“Yes. Do you want me to drop you at the venue?”
“No, Everest said he’d pick me.”
“Okay. Gotta go, Gojo-sensei is calling me. Have a good time, Y/N. Call me for anything you want, alright?”
“Alright.” And with that, the call was ended.
You had rarely ever gotten as prepared as you got that evening, planting freshly-plucked roses from the hostel gardens and wearing your favourite, layered red dress, your eyes hooded with a light dash of eye-shadow and your lips shining with lipstick, your hands adorned with jewellery and the red heels in your feet announcing your arrival.
At seven, you were still waiting for him, when you texted him.
Where are you? We’re supposed to be there in thirty minutes.
His reply came instantaneously.
Be there in five.
When Everest called you to come at the gate, you found him sitting in his car, which you didn’t find odd, but you did feel him colder towards you, his eyes glued towards the phone, and only a ‘nice’ towards your dress. Throughout the car drive, it was only you who kept trying to stir up conversations, to which he would give short replies.
Maybe he’s just tired.
But you couldn’t help but wonder that no matter how exhausted he was, Megumi never ignored you.
At the venue, when the two of you walked in the glowing golden lights of the halls, heads turned in your direction, the lucky girl who got Everest as her partner.
When in reality, you wanted Megumi Fushiguro by your side.
At the beginning of the event, he danced with you, his true smile appearing on his face, dissolving all fears from you, an air of familiarity establishing in the way he held you, until there was a break, and he told you to wait on a table while he got some drinks.
As he disappeared into the crowds, you didn’t mind, seeing you needed a break anyway, with the heels proving it was a wrong decision to dance. While you fixed your hair and rubbed your feet, you waited and waited for him.
Ten minutes passed. Fifteen. Twenty.
You have had enough. The drinks table wasn’t that far away?
You went to find him on your own. Seeing your confused face, a friend of yours comes up to you and whispers, “he just went upstairs. I saw him with Leah.”
You thanked her and followed the direction she pointed to, not even considering the fact that your night just took a turn for the worse.
You saw him, in a dimly-lit room, kissing Leah.
You freeze.
Leah saw you, and pointed towards you, and Everest followed her line of sight to find you. He told her to wait as he walked towards you. “What are you doing here?”
“I could ask the same of you.”
“Leah wanted to talk. I think I had told you to wait.”
“Yeah, wait to bring me some drinks, not go kiss girls?”
“I never said anything about bringing you anything. And you don’t get to decide what I do and what I don’t.”
You stare at him. “That’s not fair.”
“You don’t get to talk about what’s fair and what’s not.” His voice raised and attracted onlookers from the floor. “You know what else is not fair? It’s that the only replacement I get for Leah is you. All others were taken, and only you were too dumb to fall for love.” He mimicked you in a high-pitched tone, earning snickers from the crowd. “Now that I got her again,” he showered all the love in the world at the blonde-haired girl beside him in one glance, “I can discard you.”
Fury flared inside you upon this wound to self-dignity. “Watch your words.”
“How about you watch your face?” As you gasped, he smirked. “What, did you think I had taken you for your looks? Go look at yourself in a mirror, chipmunk. Nobody ain’t gonna love you, with or without makeup. Come talk to me when you’ve had a good look over the mistake that’s you. Lesson over.”
You stand there, in your attire, tears forming in your eyes. “I thought you cared? Was all that for nothing?”
He rubbed the bridge of his nose in annoyance. “What, those words of love, and those flowers, and laughing made you think I loved you? Me and you falling in love, heck, anyone falling in love with you, hell would freeze over before it happens. You have nothing compared to what we can get. Who the heck do you think you are? It’s not my fault you’re delusional. I told you, I was playing with you. You were just a pastime. Now go, find someone. If you can.”
You would have fought more, but the rolling tears and laughs of the crowd forced you to run downstairs, as the girls of your section called after you.
“Told you it was fake.”
“Serves her right.”
“I wondered what he saw in her?”
“Go home crying to your boy! Oh wait, you don’t have one.”
“I don’t know if she looked more hideous in makeup or without it.”
“If you have any honour, go kill yourself.”
A few of your friends ran after you, fighting all hurtful words as you wouldn’t stop sobbing, all your hopes crashing on you to reveal the one nasty truth you always feared.
For all he was, Everest was right. After all, who would want you as theirs?
If you were honest with yourself, you didn’t even love him. You weren’t hurt about him dumping you. What hurt you was the time he chose to humiliate you, and the way he advertised your ‘imperfection’.
Your friends took you to the bathrooms and tried to console you, but you had only one thing in mind.
“Can you please give me my phone?”
While your friends immediately obliged, you rang up your topmost contact, and you hoped he would pick up. Not that he never did, but he was on a mission.
Someone breathed life to your soul as Megumi’s voice rang, “Y/N?”
“Can you please come pick me up?”
“Of course. I’m on my way.” The keys jangled in the background and the door slammed shut. “Are you crying, Y/N? Is everything alright?”
“I’ll tell you everything later, okay?”
“Of course.”
So it was natural for Megumi to get worried. Why are you crying, why are you coming home early (not that he hated it, but he didn’t want you to be heartbroken), and is Everest with you?
And of course he was confused, and he felt someone took his heart and smashed it when he saw your tear-struck face.
*******
Upon reaching your hostel, you opened the door, Megumi following, and the moment the door thudded close, with a loud cry, you threw apart your jewellery and jerked your hair open, sobs escaping you as flowers scattered the floor. Megumi strode towards you quick and held your hands gently.
“Why am I even alive?” You screamed like a maniac, fighting in his grasp. “I should die! I am a mistake. I hate myself. I hate myself. I HATE MYSELF!”
“Y/N, look at me.” he softly told you. “Y/N, look at me. Don’t do this to me.”
You finally meet his eyes, red rimmed eyes meeting his worried green ones, your trembling lips trying to make coherent words.
“Here, have some water, and tell me what happened.”
And so you did. His hands holding you as he sat beside you, you leaning into him, with hiccups, and occasional outbursts, you told him. And by the end, his eyes held unbridled rage and his knuckles were white, his teeth and fists clenched. “Why didn’t you tell me there?”
“I didn’t want to trouble you in my mess. And it’s not that I wanted to continue, anyway. It’s just…he insulted me publicly. He lifted me and then threw me ruthlessly to the ground. He showed me I’m worthless.”
“Y/N.,” his face looked hurt, “don’t say that.”
“No, let me speak. He’s right, Megumi. Nobody would ever want me. Look at me.” you laugh hysterically, pointing to your face. “What is it that I have? I don’t have a model-styled body, or picture-perfect face, or a wealthy background or good grades, I have nothing! Compared to others, I really am nothing. What was I thinking? I really should try harder, if I ever intend to find love.” you put your head in hands and weep. “Who would ever want me?” You raise your head to meet his, your raw heart spilling everything out. “Even you deserve someone better. You’re everything one could ever want. Even you must wonder why you are still friends with me.”
Megumi Fushiguro had had enough. Enough of you being undervalued by rubbish people, when you were his entire world. All because you had to go to other boys because he was too chicken to admit his feelings for you?
He had promised himself to be there for you when you needed him, and if he didn’t stand up for you now, then damn all his feelings for you. What kind of a man would he be, if the one he loves suffers right in front of him?
What’s the worst that can happen, honestly? Now that he thought about it, the worst case was you rejecting him. But at least you’ll know that no matter whomever you end up with, someone loved you truly.
“It’s my turn to speak,” he began speaking, slowly, as if considering the best way to navigate his words, “never, in our years of friendship, have I ever had second-guesses about being your best friend. I wonder, what have I done to deserve you, the best thing that could happen to me.”
Your hands drop from your face in disbelief.
“You remember what I had told you in first year? You’re perfect the way you are, and if anyone fails to see you, they don’t deserve you. Don’t compare yourself to any other person. And if given the chance, I’d do it all again for you. I don’t deserve someone better, because you are the best I could have ever asked for. I can’t stand by seeing you be shattered by people who fail to recognize your value. I want you to know your worth. If only you could see yourself the way I see you.”
You finally smile, your love blooming softly in your chest.
“There you go,” he smiled with you, his thumbs gently removing the tears. “See? You’ve got such a beautiful smile. It’s his loss.”
Of which he was secretly glad.
“Thank you, Megumi,” you tell him, “but you don’t need to console me. I just wanted to let it all out. I know you’re saying that because you’re my best friend.”
“Heck yeah I’m saying this because I am your best friend,” his voice held ferocity, “and I care for you. I’ve never wanted anyone else, because I’ve only wanted you. And no matter how much anyone tells me otherwise, you’ll always be perfect for me because I love you. Truly.”
You stare at him, the room falling silent except for the heavy breaths of the two of you, your eyes never leaving his reddening face.
“You mean it?” your voice escaped your lips finally, trembling. “Every word?”
“Every single word.”
You smile, finally, your heart not caring anymore what Leah or Everest or anyone else thought. They could all go to hell for all you cared, because as long as you were loved by Megumi Fushiguro, you didn’t give the world a damn.
“Why did it take you so long?” you whined. “Had you said it earlier, I would have never even gone to the party in the first place!”
“Why didn’t you ever tell me?” he returned your question at you.
“Because I thought if you wanted someone else. Someone better than me.”
His eyes were gentle pools of warmth as he held your hand to his lips. “No one could fuckin' compare to you, Y/N, because no one can compete to how much you mean to me.”
You blush, finally at peace with yourself. “You didn’t answer my question. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I thought you deserved to love and be loved by someone better, who can give you what you deserve.”
Your smile is full of love as you softly reply, “there is only one person I have loved, and will love, all my life. And he’s sitting right here with me.”
The relief that seeped through him upon knowing you had a place in your heart for only him made him feel he was the luckiest man in the world.
He’d fight the curses, and the entire world for you, as long as you loved him and he loved you.
“Well,” he gave his rare smile, “what do you say about taking this friendship to the next level?”
You look him in the eye, a daring smile dancing on your lips. “What’s stopping you?”

FIREFIGHTERS aid to those who have been in a fire accident. That was their primary purpose. However, you do not recall that their other objective was placing a burning sensation on your cheeks. Those rugged and buffy men be flexing them muscles while saving shit.
Before saving lives, they should learn how to save hearts, for real.
These desireable feelings began with Bakugo Katsuki. This man became the reason of the burning sensation on your cheeks.
You met this man in a rather unexpected way.
Uraraka, a friend from one of your part time jobs, had a get together with her highschool friends on an Ocean Park. It’s quite funny since one of your part time jobs is in this park. However, she’s clueless whether or not you’re working today.
— But it turns out you are.
“A mermaid show?” Kaminari reads. “Wait! There are mermaids here?!?”
Uraraka giggles and nods, “Yep!! One of my friends works as a mermaid who swims inside the tanks with the fishes!! Although, I am not sure if she’s on duty right now…that woman has other jobs after all!!”
“Does she swim with sharks?” Kaminari had to ask, but ended up getting hit in the head by Jiro.
“I heard she does!! She was trained after all!!” Uraraka replied.
“Damn, mama. Ya for real?” Sero asked, placing both hands on his pockets as he watched fishes swam from the glass.
The brunette nods her head again. “Yep!! I watched her once!! You know, she even had to dye her hair white-ish silver for this role since the color reflects better when she’s in water!!”
“Aye? Ya heard that Bakugo? A mermaid! Here in this Ocean Park! Can you believe that?” Kirishima called out his friend from a far.
Bakugo Katsuki walked towards them with his hands on his pockets. His compression shirt hugged his pecs and small waist perfectly, emphasizing his veiny arms as he flexed them. The scars and bruises on his arms added to his intimidatingly hot demeanor.
Bakugo scoffed, “I ‘ont get the damn hype. It’s a damn human with tails — a fake fucking tail.”
Kirishima chuckled, placing his buffed arm around his shoulder. He joked how uptight his friend can be. Kaminari and Sero joined in this joke. It ended up a loud explosion of anger from the blond.
“Ochako-chan,” Asui spoke with her index finger near her mouth. “Where should we go next before Bakugo attracts more people with his shouting?”
Uraraka looked behind Asui to only see the boys crowding one another, laughing and joking about boy stuff. Then, the girls looked to their side to see a bunch of girls giggling and smiling at the boys.
Momo sighed, “Tsuyu-chan, I don’t think it’s Bakugo’s shouting is what’s attracting them…”
“Yep. It’s their damn good looks that’s attracting those girls. Is this what it means to be a firefighter?” Jiro jokes, taking a bite of a fry from Momo’s hand.
“Boi. Can’t blame them! Have you seen my man?” Mina creates love simp eyes on her boyfriend, Kirishima. She stared at his huge biceps and thick thighs.
“Ew! Stop undressing your boyfriend in front of us!” Uraraka retorts, creating fake gagging noises.
“Shut yo ass up! I know you are drooling over your broccoli over there!” Mina teases, gesturing at a certain green-haired who is calming down an intense-looking Bakugo at the moment.
She flinched, a sudden redness arose from her cheeks and stuttered, “Shut u—”
She stopped talking when Uraraka heard the glass behind her tapping. The brunette looked behind to see you smiling at her. You had your mermaid outfit on, it was complete with sea shells and pearls.
Uraraka’s eyes brightened in excitement and screamed your name, gaining the attention of her highschool friends. The brunette jumped and waved upon seeing your figure in the water.
“Guys! This is the friend I told you about!!” Uraraka introduced happily.
You looked over to see side to see a lot of people. You heard of Uraraka’s high school friends, she loved talking about them during breaks. You never anticipated that you’ll meet them right here and right now while you’re in water. Most of them were smiling and waving at you. Therefore, you returned their kind gesture with gratitude.
Bakugo Katsuki thought you look ethereal. He thought he saw a goddess in the waters of chlorine. The way your hair is spread out in the water, the way your tail compliments the silver hair you have, the way the light reflects beautifully on your hair, the way your skin looks so exquisite like ambrosia.
His eyes travelled up to your face, analyzing it like a math problem. The smile plastered on your face made his stomach feel things, which was a weird feeling for him.
He had a history of flings here and there, but never did he had this tingling feeling on his stomach.
“Gettin’ attracted to this beautiful woman, I see?” Sero teases, siding his eyes to see his composure.
“Mind your own damn business,” He retorted, clicking his tongue.
Sero only grinned, loving this new side of his friend. It’s legit not like everyday someone as proud and cocky like Bakugo to get infatuated by a girl in fake tails.
Uraraka did charades with her body, trying to ask your time out. You placed 10 fingers out, illustrating that you’ll be done at 10am then you’re free. Today’s not hectic for her actually. This mermaid show is the only job she has for the day.
The brunette clapped her hands while jumping, and she pointed at the area where the jelly fishes are, indicating that they’ll be exploring that place first. You gave her a thumbs up then breathe out, causing bubbles to form and created a heart.
She giggled, waving you a goodbye as you swam to the opposite side to greet other guests through the glass.
“Damn, Uraraka! You’ve got a hot friend! If I wasn’t dating Eijiro, sure as hell will I date her!” Mina giggled, causing Kirishima to pout at her comment. The pink-haired noticed and console her beloved with kisses and hugs, causing Bakugo to roll his eyes at this lovestruck moment.
The group walked across the jellyfish section, admiring each sea creature. The couples in the group were laughing and holding each other while pointing at the jellyfishes. The only single ones are Iida, Sero and Bakugo. This trio stuck together, being third wheels with the couples.
At first, Bakugo wanted to leave, but after seeing such an ethereal creature before his eyes; that gave him a reason to stay.
“So,” Sero began talking. “You and Miss Mermaid, aye?”
The blond rolled his eyes, “What about her?”
Iida karate-chop his arm towards Bakugo, pointing at him completely. “We saw how you looked at her!! There’s nothing wrong with being attracted to someone of the opposite sex! You should ask her out!”
“I don’t do relationships, and yall know that shit,” Bakugo scoffed, pushing Iida’s hand away.
Sero leaned forward a bit to punch his chest and said, “That’s what that red hunk said too,” He gestured at Kirishima, who has his buffy arms around Mina’s shoulders. “Yet, he’s such a simp for Mina right now.”
The blond was about to mention something till he heard such an alluring voice coming from behind. He snapped his head back to see you running towards them with a smile. His stomach dropped, seeing you in such a big jacket that emphasized your small frame. Your legs were bare in front of him, and he doesn’t even notice you have shorts thanks to the length of this jacket.
“Goodness! Your hair is still wet!!” Uraraka ran towards you with concern.
“Nah! That’s fine!!” You replied, reassuring her that this is fine.
The brunette grabbed your wrists, bringing you closer to the group. She introduced her boyfriend first, Midoriya Izuku. Then, she introduced her girl friends, who excitedly commented about how pretty you looked in the water. Lastly are the boys. She introduced these tall and intimidating-looking men to you.
You were a bit scared since their height can make your neck hurt — or maybe you were just really tiny…
Uraraka then brought you to the last person in the group. You looked up to see sharp eyes staring down at you. Your body flinched a bit with his gaze. As the brunette was introducing you to this blond, you had to fondle your fingers together while looking at the ground.
“Name’s Bakugo Katsuki,” He suddenly spoke, beating Uraraka to his introduction.
You bowed slightly, acknowledging his presence while keeping your head down. He isn’t exactly a new person to you. Him and his friends are pretty famous in the neighborhood.
Uraraka stared at you then at him then at you again. The latter got the picture so she giggled teasingly, catching your attention.
“What?” You asked, curious to why she’s suddenly laughing.
“Nothing,” She shook her head while giggling.
You were about to speak when she wrapped her arms around your arm, tugging you closer to her. You had a feeling she’s trying to change the subject, but she just keeps giggling and pulling you around.
You managed to look behind to only see the boys swarming around Bakugo, giving him a high-five and such. Your heart fluttered when his mouth turned into a sexy grin, such cockiness would usually turn you off, but with him? It makes your cheeks have that burning sensation.
His eyes suddenly snapped towards you. Holy shit. He caught you staring. You immediately snapped your head forward, trying to walk faster and away from him.
As the day goes by, the group toured around the Ocean Park. Some even got to tryout the scuba diving section in this park while others got to pet penguins and such. They did all the fun things presented by the park.
It was all fun and games to those people, but to you? It was a tiring experience.
The reason? Well, it’s simple really…it’s Bakugo frickin’ Katsuki.
Everywhere you go, his eyes follows. You can see his red orbs just staring at you through the glass while you watch fishes swim around. You would also side glance to see him gazing at you again.
As the sun begins to disappear from the sky, the group had to separate their ways. However, the funny thing is that Uraraka was supposed to bring you home, but she excused herself quite quickly and asked Bakugo to bring you home. This seemed way planned since she giggled loudly, almost as if she’s teasing me with something that not yet happened.
D-Did she just leave me with this hottie? You sweat, seeing her figure getting smaller and smaller from the distance.
“U-Um…you don’t have to bring me home…I can just take the train…” You stuttered, still not looking at him due to shyness.
He finally spoke. “You have a habit of not looking at people or sumthing, Shrimpy?”
You gulped, “U-Um…sorry…i-it’s just..umm…” How the fuck do you say that the reason why you can’t look at him is cause he’s too fucking hot for you. His presence alone is already making you shy.
Bakugo chuckled, “Got it, Shrimpy. C’mon my ride’s just here.”
He began walking while twirling his keys with his index finger and his other hand on his pocket. You followed him till he reached his car. As soon as he unlocked his car, he opened the door for you. This small action made your heart flutter once more.
His large frame suddenly leaned forward to put your seatbelt on. Your heart dropped, seeing how close he is to your own body.
As he retracted from your body, his fingers traced your thighs. You flinched, not knowing if he’s doing this on purpose or by accident. Your throat released a big gulp, subconsciously crossing your legs and holding the strap of belt.
When he entered the car, he began driving to the destination. Holy fucking fuck. He’s driving with one hand while the other’s in the hand gear shift. You fondled with the strap again as you gazed upon his hand on the wheel. Each time he turns, you watched the veins on his hands just popped out.
“Nice digs…” You complimented his car, trying to strike a conversation to get rid of this awkward fucking silence. And well to be honest, you just want to hear his sexy voice.
He grinned, switching the position of his hands on the wheels. “You sure know how to fucking compliment a man.” His reply made you blush once more, reddening your cheeks more.
“So where ‘m taking ya, Shrimpy?”
“U-Umm…to XXX-XXX…please.”
His eyebrow arched, remembering that area recently got into a fire accident. He was a part of that mission, and he vaguely recalled that experience. It was pretty hectic and dangerous, the most dangerous he has ever experienced. He even thought he was gonna die while saving the citizens inside.
“You ought to be careful there. I recently rescued people from a fire accident around your area, ya hear me?”
Your head snapped towards him, he finally caught your attention. “Rescue..? You’re a firefighter, right?”
He scoffed playfully, “What gave that shit away?”
“I actually saw you once in action! The building was literally collapsing yet you managed to carried out 5 people on your back!!” You replied with such amazement, recalling how brave and heroic he looked when he exited the building.
Now this piqued his interest. “Ho? You saw me once, huh?”
You can only nod excitingly. You rambled — well more on praised his heroic performance since you only saw that type of shit in TV. Experiencing an event like that in real life just makes the experience a whole lot better. Your respect for firefighters just deepened since it must be very hard walking onto those flames to save people.
“How do you do it?” You had to ask, curious with his lifestyle as a firefighter. He only stayed silent, not sure what you were implying.
“Like…how do you just walk into fire to save them? It takes a lot of mental strength to do that, you know? And is your job just running inside the burning house? Are there other jobs? Are you required to learn stuff from the medical field? What happens if—” You stopped talking when he laughed loudly.
You tilted your head in confusion, trying to recall if you said anything funny. “What’s so funny?”
He shook his head, trying to catch his breath. “Nothing! The conversation I usually have with girls are about getting my phone number and sex. But you?” He looked at you for a brief moment then back at the road. “You asked about my job?”
“Not everything’s about sex!” You retorted. “Besides, I was just really curious about it, you know? It still really amazes me how you managed to save people in a collapsing building…”
Batump…
Bakugo stared at the road blankly, not expecting this type of conversation with a girl. It was no lie when he mentioned that girls are only after his number and sex. This was the first time someone asked him about…well…him.
The blond knew he’s self-worth. He knows that he can attract ladies with his charms and looks. All he had to do is glance to their direction as he flex his muscles, and the girls come to him.
You tilted your head when he chuckled, perplexed with what he’s laughing on. You were about to ask till he began explaining the basics and strategies. He elucidated everything so well, that it felt like a lecture at this point. This alone indicates how he loves his job.
You smiled at his rambling, and you continued asking questions. He answered them quickly, trying to contain his excitement which ended up as a fail to be honest.
This went on till he finally drove you home.
Bakugo parked his car, veering the gear shift to its parking mode. You removed your seatbelt and fixed the strap of your bag on your shoulders. You were about to open the door when he did it for you.
As soon as the door opened, your heart skipped a beat from this gesture.
“Ya comin’ or what?” He rasped, placing his palm in front of you.
You nodded, colliding your fingers with his fingers first. Then, you slowly guided your fingers to his palm. The blond reacted by slowly closing his hand while you reacted the same way.
You giggled a bit, “Didn’t depict you to be a gentleman.”
He scoffed, closing the door and lock his car. “Was that supposed to be an insult, dumbass?”
“Take it how you want it…”
He arched his brow, holding your hand a bit tighter. The goosebumps traveled up your body, not expecting the sudden aggression from him.
Holy ravioli cheesecake macaroni….The burning sensation is back on your cheeks. It’s only know you realized how rough and calloused his hands are. Moreover, they were warm which made you feel cozy. And goodness, his hands were fucking big. You can’t even almost see your hands anymore, just the tip of your fingers.
“U-Um…thanks for bringing me home, Bakugo-kun…” You broke the silence.
“No problem.”
You slowly loosen the grip on his hand, indicating that you need to leave. He got the idea and slowly loosened his grip as well. You were a bit — no, you were really sad that the warmth on your hand is gone.
“Uhh. Hey,” He suddenly spoke, placing one hand on his hips while the other is scratching the back of his neck.
“I ‘ont usually ask this type of shit, but wanna grab coffee with me or something?” He asked, looking away from your eyes with a mild blush.
You giggled. “What time and when?”
“Uhhh…tomorrow? After our shift?”
Your eyes went wide, not expecting to be that quick. You intentionally let out a huge smile, “That eager to see me?”
Bakugo flinched, getting irritated since he isn’t used to be teased on. “If you ain’t free then we can fucking just—” He stoped exploding when he heard you laughing.
Batump…
There it goes again.
Batump…
It’s the same beat and sound he heard while in the car.
Batump…
And suddenly, the world around him moved slowly. Background was blurry, but you were emphasized on his eyes. He clicked his tongue in annoyance, not understanding this new feeling. However, it’s a feeling he would want to feel again with only you.
“I would love to have coffee with you!!” You stopped laughing, wiping a happy tear from your eye.
Fucking shit. His heart skipped a damn beat again.
Many months has passed since your first meeting with Bakugo. Your cheeks still burn as ever when you see him while his heart beats faster and faster when he sees you.
The blond knew what the damn feeling was — love.
It took him months of declining, denying and refusing his feelings for you. He wanted to slap and choke his past self for waiting that damn long to be truthful with his feelings. As he mentioned, he doesn’t commit to a relationship because it’s tiring and time consuming. Hence why it was hard for him to conclude his end game with you.
Months ago, the blond had to consult with about Kirishima Eijiro, a former playboy, about his feelings. The redhead happily guided and counseled him about his concerns and worries. Though it was a painful moment for Kirishima since Bakugo kept denying it even further.
Mina was so close into smacking her blond friend for being so stupid, but Kirishima held his girlfriend back. He kinda wish he did not though….
Soon, it became too much to bear so Kirishima asked help from the rest of his friends to hopefully smack talk Bakugo through this.
“You’re complicated, you know that right?” Kirishima groaned loudly, putting on his firefighter suit.
Bakugo clicked his tongue in irritation, placing some equipment needed ok his suit. Iida shook his head in disapproval, “When will you finally come true with your feelings, Bakugo-kun?”
“I AM TRUE WITH MY FEELINGS!” He retorted, slamming his locker loudly.
“Really now? Denying your feelings for [Name] is your true feelings?” Kaminari sighed, removing his jacket and placing it inside his locker.
“I ain’t denying shit!”
Sero shook his head in disapproval. “C’mon, dude! I’ve seen the way you look at her. You have those twinkle twinkle stars on your eyes!”
“I fucking do not!”
“Hm. Leading [Name] on, Taking advantage of [Name], Cursing at [Name] out of no where, Does not apologize at first, Tries to win her back by apologizing, Plays around with girls, and cycle repeats,” Todoroki spoke, holding his chin with his slender fingers.
“….I believe that’s called a—” He continued speaking.
“—Red flag.” He snapped his fingers while looking at Bakugo.
Bakugo’s vein popped out on his forehead. “I AIN’T NO RED FLAG, ICYHOT!”
Todoroki tilted his head in confusion. “But according to this generation slang, you fit into the red flag category more rather than the green flag category.”
“You wanna fucking die, Half ‘n Half?”
Midoriya sweats, going in between an enraged Bakugo and a genuinely confused Todoroki. “Now! Now! Now! No need to get violent, Kacchan. I think what Todoroki-kun means is that you not being true with your feelings also breaks [Name]’s heart.”
The green-haired continued, “It’s obvious that [Name] likes you too yet you keep pushing her away with your mood swings. First, you were kind and gentle with her and next, you were cussing at her while making out with another girl. It’s a surprise that [Name] even stuck with you for so long. Kacchan, if you continue acting like this, you won’t even realize that she’s gone…”
“He’s right, bro…” Kirishima agreed. “Listen. Before Mina and I started dating, I didn’t realize that I love her so much till she stopped chasing after me. I’ve spent months having breakdowns and regrets when I didn’t choose to follow my heart to be with her. Don’t you remember what you told me during those months?”
Kirishima placed his finger tip on his chest. “Stop delaying shit. Just ask her out so I won’t have to worry for your dumbass.” The latter repeated the words Bakugo told him before.
Bakugo’s eyes only quivered, gulping down his throat as his fist clenched while thinking of you out of his reach.
A sweat dripped from Sero’s forehead so he sighed, “Alright then. Since you don’t like [Name], can I have her?”
The blond’s eyes went wild, grabbing Sero’s collar and pining him against the locker. “You wanna fucking die, Tape Face?”
Sero chuckled since he expected this reaction from him. “Seems like you found your answer, ain’t that right dumbass?”
He slowly loosen his grip on his collar, realizing his actual feelings with you. He fucking likes you. He began thinking why he keeps denying it — was it really his ego and pride to not date? If that’s the damn answer, he wanted to blast himself for being so stupid.
However, it was frustrating that it took a jealousy moment for him to realize. What’s even more annoying is that it was the one of his friends that riled him up.
“Yer fuckin’ annoying, damn it…” Bakugo cussed, glaring at Sero who’s grinning.
“To clear shit out, I ain’t after your girl. She’s yours. And it’s thanks to me your dumbass knows what you’re actually feeling.”
The blond rolled his eyes, “Shut up…”
Kirishima smiled, almost tearing up like a proud parent since his dumbass of a friend finally accept his feelings. He lunged at Bakugo, wrapping an arm on his shoulders with a smile. He laughed and ruffled through his hair, praising him which eventually made Bakugo annoyed.
Suddenly, the emergency alarm made a loud sound.
This signals that there has been a fire accident near by. It was their cue to roll out and get the job done. All of them got what they need from their lockers before slamming them shut. As they ran to their truck, Midoriya called for his friends.
“Guys…this fire emergency is actually happening in [Name]’s workplace….” He showed his messages of Uraraka spamming him to get his ass there and distinguish the fire.
Bakugo’s world stopped.
His pupils shrunk in fear, he can feel his body paling up as cold sweat dripped from his body. His body shivered slowly, feeling his gaze getting blurry. He clenched his fists as he practically sprinted to the truck.
His friends followed behind, jumping into their truck. Kaminari, their driver, stepped into the gas as the gate of their department opened. The rest began readying their equipment needed.
While doing so, Bakugo’s paranoia kept increasing. The negative thoughts of you in the fire is making him lose his mind. He even began thinking that he might not make it. An unfamiliar wetness began to form on his eyes, he was unsure what it is, but it was not a pleasant feeling.
As soon as they arrive, number of people were in the sidelines. The policemen were blocking their way, guarding the citizens while aiding the people who managed to get away from the fire.
Bakugo’s stomach dropped when he sees you not outside. He immediately saw Uraraka, crying and shivering with burns on her skin. The blond ran towards her and screamed, “ROUNDFACE! WHERE’S [NAME]!?!”
Uraraka faced him with lifeless eyes and pointed at burning flower shop.
He did not hesitate. He ran inside even with his crew mates yelling and trying to stop him. The blond ran through the blazing fire, rummaging through the debris. He sank deeper into the fire, the ashes covering his sight a bit. However, he soon saw a body lying down on the floor with wood crushing its body.
His eyes lit up in hope so he ran to that body. He began removing the heavy wood crushing the body. Soon, he cried in relief when he saw it was you.
Bakugo bent down, carrying your upper body against this thigh. His fingers removed the hair on your face, analyzing for injuries and others. When he confirmed you’re still breathing, he wanted to cry out of happiness. He lifted you up bridal style, carrying you out with caution.
Uraraka collapsed on the floor in relief when she saw you in Bakugo’s arms. The blond immediately brought you to their medic. He immediately removed his helmet to look at you properly. The latter held your cheeks with caution, shaking you a bit to wake up.
“HEY! Wake up! Oi! Wake up!” He yelled, still holding your cheeks.
“Bakugo! Move back!” Iida screamed, slamming the first aid down, and he moved closer to examine your condition.
The blond moved back, his eyes getting blurry again as that water sensation is back on his eyes. His hands found its way on his hair, gripping them like there’s no tomorrow. He watched as more people surround you, trying to stabilize your breathing and checking your pulse.
Kacchan, if you continue acting like this, you won’t even realize that she’s gone…
Bakugo can’t lose you. He just finally came true with his feelings. The blond began to shiver while a cold sweat surrounded his body. Everything was already a blur even sounds, it was only your body that was emphasized on his eyes.
Stop delaying shit. Just ask her out so I won’t have to worry for your dumbass.
Once again, he wanted to fucking blast himself for being so damn stupid. It took him months to realize that shit. Bakugo began regretting every pain he inflicted on you — the times when he got mad at you randomly, the times when he would degrade her in front of his flings, and the times when his mood swings got the best of him.
Tears dropped from his eyes, praying to God that he won’t take you. His tears didn’t stop when he saw no movement from you. With his blur gaze, he watched his friends run towards him in concern. They shook him, trying to snap him back to reality.
Soon, everything literally turned into a blur.
The rush to the hospital, the doctors inserting a needle inside you, the nurses checking your regulation was all a blur. Bakugo just went with the flow — wherever you went, he was there.
It’s been a whole day since the fire incident. You were sleeping on the hospital bed with IV fluid flowing inside your veins. The blond stayed by your side till the end, his knees popping up and down aggressively while his face is buried on his hands.
He prayed every second that you would wake up. He begged whatever God was up there to hear his prayers right now. He pleaded for a miracle to happen.
“B-Bakugo…?”
His head snapped forward to see your eyes open. His own eyes shone in joy, practically jumping from his seat. The blond tripped a bit, colliding his knee on the floor but didn’t seemed to care. He immediately tended to you first, holding your hand then your cheek.
“H-How are you..?” He asked, caressing your cheeks.
“I-I should be asking that…did you even sleep?” You chuckled, trying a bit harder to open your eyes more.
“I’m fine, don’t worry. Are you okay? Do you need anything?”
“Just thirsty…is there any water? Being in that fire got me so damn parched…” You joked, trying to lift his sad and mood. However in all honesty, it’s freaking you out a bit to see how sad and miserable he looks.
It’s not a bad thing or anything, but you were so used to see Bakugo so prideful and cocky. Seeing him in this state was a legit new thing for you.
With a lot of care and caution, he lifted your head a bit while bringing a glass of water near your mouth. A satisfied gulp engulfed you when you feel the wet sensation relieving your parched throat. You expressed your gratitude with the blond as he slowly placed your head down in the pillow.
“How bad was it?” You had to ask.
“Burnt to the ground. The Department even discussed that people living in that area should stay with someone else first. They decided that they should scout the area to investigate the cause. That fire accident was the 4th time this week.”
“I-Is that so?” You stuttered and uttered again. “Can you pass my phone? I’ll ask Uraraka if I can stay with her…”
Bakugo crossed his arms. “Um. About that…you’ll be staying with me…”
“I-Is that alright? I don’t want to intrude, especially if you’re bringing girls over…”
His eye twitched, cursing at you for being too kind. Not to mention, he finally became true with his feelings so the thought of other girls touching him became an unpleasant idea.
“It’s fine, you’re no—never a hinderance…I’ll consult with the nurse with your discharge…” He sighed, walking to the door to exit the room.
“W-Wait! At least tell me the price of the—” You didn’t finish your sentence since he closed the door already.
When he closed the door, Bakugo noticed Todoroki leaning on the opposite side of the door. His arms were crossed to his chest while his one foot is up in the wall, propping his knee out.
“You lied about the Department declaring that the people living in the area should stay with someone else…” He pointed out, grinning a bit to tease him.
The blond clicked his tongue, jaw clenched in annoyance as he looked away with a deep blush. “Shut the fuck up, Icy Hot…”
Afterwards, Bakugo finalized your bills and papers. The blond paid for everything already which annoyed you a bit. You were grateful that he took care of everything, but a heads up would be fucking nice. Throughout the day, he helped you with legit everything — from getting up from the bed to walking to his apartment.
As soon he settled you down on the sofa. He grabbed the remote to his smart TV, allowing you to pick any movie you want to watch. You shyly got the remote from his hand, but while getting it, his fingers traced your hand. With a gulp, you immediately retracted your hand from his.
He notified that he will be making dinner so he made his way to the kitchen. You can hear the sounds of knives across the kitchen. You can even smell the food he was making. It smelled really good which was no surprise since Bakugo was a good cook.
Later, he prepared the food on a plate and gave it to you on the sofa. You expressed your gratitude and began eating.
Bakugo took care of you for 3 days, attending to your needs. You didn’t ask for much though, you mostly sat on the sofa while watching movies. The blond did not let you do a single thing, he used your discharge from the hospital as an excuse.
“Bakugo, I’m feeling a lot better now…I think I should at least do something…” You said, feeling guilty that you are basically not doing anything.
“Not happening. You’re still—Stop using that as an excuse. I’m pretty sure I know when my own body is feeling fine. I missed work for 3 days since then! When will the Departement allow me to go back to my home?” You just had to ask.
“I lied about the Department…” He bluntly exclaimed, wanting to clarify that a long time ago.
Your eyes went wide. “W-What?”
“I-I lied about it because I became d-desperate…”
You took a deep breath, holding onto your sanity. “Desperate about what?” You questioned, trying to understand why he kinda kidnapped you for his own benefit.
“To be with you…”
You arched your brow. “To be with me?” You raised your voice a bit, crossing your arms to your chest.
“Y-Yes..fuck, I ain’t good with this, but I-I like you so I lied and some shit…” He confessed, looking down to the floor with a definite blush.
I like you. Those are the words you desired to hear. It’s no shock that you became the victims of love of Bakugo. The man has this charisma that you can’t avoid so you fell for him too. However, loving him was also your downfall.
The amount of times he has hurt you is never ending. All the sorries, the hope, the love became too much for you at some point. But, you were so lovesick for him so you forgave his sorry ass no matter what. You don’t care, you’ll do it over and over, even if he’s not a prince in your list.
This type of love has inflicted you pain so many times yet why you still looking for love?
“Bakugo, I get that you did this because you like me. I like you too, but…” You paused when you saw the light on his eyes.
“…I-I’m not sure if I want to be with you…”
His eyes widen as his shoulders tensed up in fear. He was about to speak, but you spoke first, “I like you, I really do, but I can never forget all the times you’ve hurt me. But, what really hurts me is when you kissed that girl in the party, what’s worse is when she degraded me, you did not do anything. How can I stay with a guy who wouldn’t put down his pride? How can you ensure that you’ll make me happy..”
Bakugo snapped, grabbing your forearms tightly and yelled, “I can make you happy!”
You chuckled, and a tear dropped from your eye. “Really? Because you’ve given me a lot of sad memories rather than happy ones.”
His face paled up, realizing the amount of times he has hurt you due to his ego. All those memories are finally getting back to him, it all flashed through him like the wind.
“I-I…” He stuttered, loosening his grip on your forearms. His hand slowly traveled down to your hands. He slightly touches your fingers, his head looking down in remorse.
“I’m sorry…” Those two words were short, but it held a greater context behind it. You can feel the sincerity with his words, it felt like every pain he has given you vanished. You shut your eyes for a moment, trying to decide an answer to his apology.
Should you listen to your brain and say that it’s over? It’s clearly a huge sign that he is a red flag in many aspects.
Or should you listen to your heart and give him another chance? It’s already a huge risk that you’re even speaking with him. Will he be worth it? Can attitudes and personality change?
You opened your eyes, already done deciding. So you spoke, “Bakugo.”
His breath hitched, holding your fingers tighter.
“It’s stupid, but I’ll give you another chance. However, you must work for it. I do like you, but I want to see effort first. I’m quite traditional so forgive me for asking such, but I need to see if you truly like me or this is just a fling of yours,” You confessed which gave him a spark of hope.
He smiled, his fingers holding your entire hands and bringing it up to your chest. “I’ll take it!!” He yelled enthusiastically.
You arched your brow, a chuckle left your mouth. “Just to let you know, I won’t make it easy for you. I’ll show you my flaws, my bratty attitude, and my own red flags. Let’s see how you’ll handle that, just like how I handled yours. Now, don’t look so relief just because you know I like you.”
He looked surprised for a moment, but his expression turned into an excited look. “That’s fucking fine. Ya can be as mean as you want to be, but ‘m fucking winning ya back.”
You scoffed playfully, “Please. I’m sure you won’t even last a damn day with my attitude.”
Bakugo grinned, his eyes burned with sensation, “Game fuckin’ on.”

You stared, and so did Satoru beside you, as you heard Principal Yaga announce Suguru Geto’s death sentence.
You saw his lips form the words, you heard the words, but they didn’t make any sense to you.
Suguru, killing an entire village, and leaving his residuals behind? Did he want to get caught?
You didn’t believe that.
This is all messed up. It’s like saying the Sun crashed into the Earth.
Suguru Geto, the first true friend you ever made. The one who was always there to help you at your lowest. Who remembered the smallest things about you, and on every mission would know how to cheer you up.
Your friend who was there in your smiles and sadness. Your one friend who always had your back and saved your life more than you can ever count.
And the friend you fell in love with.
It’s impossible to think he’d ever go that far. And even if he did, it’s your job to bring him back.
As Satoru fought against his mentor in defence of his fallen friend, you knew only one thing: you needed to bring him back. And fight for him.
*******
“Suguru?”
Somewhere in Tokyo, in a dark street, the addressed sorcerer paused in his tracks upon hearing his name in that familiar voice. The voice he could never ignore.
He turned around slowly, his sunken eyes greeting your red ones, a ghost of a smile haunting his tired face. “Hello, y/n.”
“Suguru, wait. I need to talk to you.” You skid to a halt, five steps away from him.
“I am here. Go on.”
“Where have you been this entire time? I’ve been so terrified for you.”
“You’ll be even more terrified if you knew what I’ve done.” He raised an eyebrow. “Though, I don’t buy it. You must have heard me and Satoru five minutes ago.”
“You don’t mean it though, right?” You wait for an answer, breathless. “Is this true? Tell me this is all just one big lie.”
He didn’t reply. Only the corners of his eyes crinkled into a sad smile.
“You can’t…you couldn’t have done this. No, no, no, no. This is all messed up.” You shake your head frantically.
“Y/N, it’s true. Every single word. And…I am no longer a sorcerer.”
“But everyone claims you’re bad. Satoru told me you were sentenced to death. I know you had a reason for killing them all.”
“You just said that I’m ‘bad’. Won’t you be punished for that?”
“I don’t give a damn. I know you’re good in there. Come back. We can help repeal the sentence.”
He laughed hollowly. “You know as well as I do that even if they wanted to, they can’t kill me. The only one who can is Satoru, and he’s bound to kill me on first sight by law. I don’t want to make this harder for him than it already is.”
“I know. I know you’re not running away because of the sentence. But please, come home. Don’t go yet.”
“Y/n, there is nothing left for me here.”
“Not even me? Or Satoru?” You spread your hands with frustrated desperation. “You can’t just leave us like that!”
“Y/N, I cannot come back. I cannot come to what you call ‘home’. I am now an outcast, and no matter how much I try, I will be a threat to society. But I do not regret what I have done. If given the chance, I will do it again.”
You watch stunned, as he closes the gap between you, his eyes begging you to understand.
“Suguru, this is not you. You have an entire future back here. We were supposed to be together. You can’t just- throw it all away!”
“Oh, in fact, this is the freest version of myself I have ever been,” his face held a manic glow as he spread his arms. “And I’d rather die than struggle for a future where I am supposed to work for people who fail to appreciate us putting our lives on the line for those worthless, ungrateful monkeys!”
You stilled, recognizing the name he just used. “Does this have something to do…with Riko Amanai?”
“Yeah. She’s one of the reasons, actually. We’re taught to be slaughter pigs for people who condemn us to death when we try to use our gifts to save their sorry hides. Don’t you see? The actual reason we are in this mess is the non-sorcerers.”
“Do you realize what you’re even saying?” Your eyes split wide in horror, trying to maintain your composure as you see the love of your life fall apart right in front of you.
“That’s what I get to hear when I try to bring change to a society that needs it. I’ve never been more certain of anything I’ve ever said. Those curses emerge from their negativity, and we have to clean it up. For what? NOTHING! I have had enough of friends dying, and I will not take this shit anymore. The only way we can actually be feared and respected, like we should be, is by killing all the non-sorcerers.”
“WHAT? Suguru, no!”
“Satoru has to be the strongest for us to prevail. He has to clear up all missions and troubles others can’t handle, and it’s all their fault. Just because everyone is too much of a coward to do anything, I’ll take the first step, and show to you all that I was right!”
His purple eyes seemed to catch fire in the low light.
“I will make a world, where we don’t have to be the strongest. Where he won’t have to be the strongest anymore. And where we can be proud of being a sorcerer.”
“Suguru…you’re doing all this for Satoru, right? But what good will this all be when he’s separated from his best friend?” you try to reason. “He needs you. If you leave him, a new world will matter nothing to him. At least, for his sake, stay. You don’t even know if you’ll live long enough to see that new sunrise. You will become his enemy. He will be forced to kill you. Spare him this pain, please. To him, to me, nothing matters more than you. Please, stay.”
“You know I cannot say yes to what you’re saying, y/n.” He said, sadness in his eyes. “If you really care that much about me, let me go make a world where I can be truly happy. I can’t wear a heartfelt smile in this life anymore. And as for Satoru opposing me, he won’t if you stand with me. Tell me. Would you run with me if I told you to? Or would you stay back where you belong?”
You just stood there, bound by allegiance, tears in your eyes.
“If you two would be with me, I could fight against anyone. But I think I chose this path alone, and I will cross it alone.” He turned his back on you. “It was nice seeing you one last time, y/n. Know I never hated you. Goodbye.”
You snapped back to reality as you see his retreating form and manage to scream. “Suguru, please, don’t do this. I can’t let you go.”
“Who told you to hold on to me?”
His voice held a bite as you took a step back.
“You can’t follow me, nor can I follow you. Your ideals and mine clash. You’re bound to kill me by law. You won’t do that either. You won’t let me go either. What do you want me to do? Stay for a worthless cause?”
“Were we so worthless too?” You yell. “You didn’t even tell us what was going on. I came to you every single goddamned day to ask what is going on inside you. Did you ever trust me?”
“Well, telling you now didn’t change the outcome did it?”
“What’s wrong with you? You’re ready to go fight for us, but you’re not willing to come back with us. You don’t want to stay with us, when you’re all we have. You will even take a death sentence to go make this world you wanted?”
“Not everything revolves around you, y/n. Some things need to be felt, to be understood. Was it really so hard to see I was spiralling? I don’t need anyone anymore. If you’re coming with me, fine. And if you don’t, then this discussion’s over.”
As he turns to walk ahead, you call out one more time. It can’t end like this.
“Is it really so easy to leave everything behind? All these years of training, learning, going through hell, and you’re gonna throw it away for a society’s ideals?” Seeing he didn’t stop, you run forward and hold his arm, and when he turns his head to meet your gaze, you draw his hand to the space above your heart, nearly about to fall to your knees in desperation. “Suguru, look at me. Don’t do this to me. Please.”
After a moment of hesitation you wrap your arms around him, and with a shuddering breath, close the embrace while you shut your eyes, hoping he’ll come around.
His eyes were emotionless as he looked at you. Five seconds, ten, twenty-
“Y/N.”
You open your eyes, lashes heavy with tears, slowly loosening the hug to look at his face.
“Y/N, don’t…do this. It…doesn’t sit right with me to see you begging.”
“Then please, come home. Trust me, we’ll figure something out. Satoru might be angry, but he misses you. Suguru. Jujutsu High, oh damn it, life isn’t life without you.”
“Y/N, do I not have a right to be happy? Must I crush all my joy to exceed others’ expectations?”
“Why are you not happy with us? Suguru, I did not walk here to return home as a failure. You can tell me.”
You cup his face with your hands. “What are we doing wrong? You think it’s easy for you to just throw it all to hell and pretend none of it – none of us – ever happened. And you expect us to continue living as if you leaving has no impact on us. Have you ever thought what would it be for me if you actually left? Do you really think we care so less for you?”
“If you really cared, you would let me go. Or join me.”
“The two kids you saved, are they really worth so much you’d give everything up? You have a gift. You can save so many more children like them.”
“That gift didn’t help me in saving Riko Amanai, and you can’t even begin to know what my gift feels like. Absorbing negativities off other monkeys, who can’t even fight for themselves.”
“How about you bring them here? We can help you raise them.”
“That’s my entire point. Those girls will only suffer in this society. They’ve already suffered more than their age, and they’re better off far away from it. I’ll make sure of it.”
“Don’t you care for your friends anymore? For me?”
“Y/N, trust me, there are more important things in my life to worry about. You’re definitely not one of them.”
You stare at him, failing to register whatever he said. “What?”
“I don’t know who gave you the impression that I cared too, but I’ve got much more to do instead of focus on fantasies that can never happen, not in this lifetime. And even so, love will not give you a surviving chance in this world.”
As your hand falls from his, he turns around and walks away, the alleyway echoing with the sound of you falling to your knees and crying.
After walking for ten minutes, your sobs ebbing away and away, he finally sighed and let a tear drop.
He meant what he had said. He wasn’t worrying about you because he knew that anywhere was safer for you than with him, and with Gojo around, you would be. He wanted you to be safer and happier. You deserve someone better than he could ever be.
You should never have been given the choice. He dragged you into this, and he knew you cared for him. And to be honest, he cared too. He had the choice of being selfish and selfless.
He loved you even. And he loved you so much, that he was ready to pay the greatest sacrifice love demands. To be selfless. To let go.
He couldn’t bring it in himself to say goodbye to you, and tell you that all those years meant nothing, when they were all he had.
So he made you hate him, broke your heart before leaving, so that hating him, and forgetting him becomes easier for you. If you hate him, you’ll stop caring, you’ll move on to someone better and won’t waste your life waiting for him, staring at the door in dying hopes that one day he’ll return for what could have been, and you’ll forget that someone named Geto Suguru ever lived, and loved you.
He knew, that if given the choice, you would not hesitate to prioritize being with him than your safety. And should anything happen to you, he’ll lose all the will to live.
At least, as long as you’re still breathing, he was going to fight for a better world. And about you being happy, well, wounds do heal with time. You’ll learn to forget him and fix your heart, and when you do, he’ll also learn to live with a broken one.
As much as his heart rebelled against the idea of erasing himself from your life, he had to make this choice.
For you.
He knew he’d never forget you. Even death won’t part your love from his soul.
What he didn’t know, was that he had failed in making you hate him. You won’t ever stop loving him, because, how can you hate someone you’ve dreamt of your entire life?
What he didn’t know, was that you won’t ever forget him either.

Was tagged by @slow-read  Btw, sorry for the late reply, I’m a little busy with college and I totally forgot about this. =^.^=
01. I love cats. Cats are life.
02. How I got into into VC? Summer of last year, Anne was announcing that she was releasing a new book. My brain clicked: “Oh, right, the author of IWTV... And Lestat! Omg... I miss him!” I couldn't start reading the books in a better time, they’ve helped me a lot, through the never ending bs that’s happening in my life right now, and they got amazing references that I can use for my graduation. All my projects this whole year were inspired directly or indirectly by book quotes and moments that inspire me. I’m reading them in order. Currently I’m at 1/3 of Memnoch the Devil.
03. My dream job is to be a writer. I wish I had more time to write.. And when I finish my graduation, I want to take a theater production course. One day I hope I can write amazing screenplays. ^^ (I need to post the last chapter of my fanfic but i’m still procrastinating........ )
04. I’m a natural hoarder. I think all artists are. (Srsly, the amount of crap that I hoard is absolutely insane. ESPECIALLY art supplies).
05. I learned how to read by myself at age 3.
06. I love everything from the Victorian era. And I have an unhealthy obsession with vampires. I wish I have more friends who can put up with me and my big fat mouth always talking about Lestat!
07. My favorite movie besides IWTV is The Crow. Every year I watch that movie. It holds a very special place in my heart.
08. I’m a goth, but sometimes I love to dress more colorful with different patterns.
09. I’m an introvert (INFP) and a little socially awkward xD.
10. I love everything spooky and creepy and mysticism related. I used to read a lot and watch a lot of tv shows about spirits and psychics. I’m an empath, people vent out to me A LOT. I’m currently studying tarot.
