Meet the Zarkarn... Creatures from the depths of the sea.

These monstrous beings are a new threat in my upcoming dragon story—OC creatures like you've never seen before. 🌊

Another flash of lightning lit up the sky, and in that brief moment, Asta’s breath caught in his throat. Out on the horizon, something was moving beneath the waves. At first, it looked like the ocean itself was writhing, the water twisting and rising unnaturally. But as the light faded and darkness returned, Asta realized with a sinking feeling that those shapes weren’t waves.

They were creatures.

His eyes widened as he strained to see through the storm. More lightning illuminated the horizon, and this time there was no mistaking it—massive shapes were emerging from the sea, rising from the depths like specters of the ocean. Their hulking forms moved with eerie grace, and even from a distance, Asta could make out the glistening, slick skin that seemed to shift between dark green and blue-gray. The creatures were crawling up from the water, their movements deliberate and predatory, like they were hunting.

Asta’s grip on his sword tightened, his palms slick with rain and sweat. His heart raced, adrenaline flooding his veins as the creatures dragged themselves onto the shore, one by one. They were enormous, standing at least two meters tall, with bodies covered in scars and patches of seaweed. Their skin looked tough, leathery, like the hide of a sea beast, and their faces—

Asta felt a wave of nausea rise in his throat. Their faces were grotesque, twisted and malformed, with bulging eyes that seemed too large for their skulls. Gills flared on the sides of their necks as they breathed, and their mouths were filled with jagged, sharp teeth, dripping with seawater. Some of them had weapons—crude spears made from bone and coral, their tips jagged and deadly. Others flexed their claws, long and sharp, as they lumbered closer to the beach.

He could barely breathe. His heart hammered against his ribs as he watched them come, each step they took sending tremors through the sand. There were dozens of them, maybe more, crawling from the sea like an endless tide of monsters. And they were fast—too fast for creatures of their size. They moved with a terrifying fluidity, their wet bodies glistening in the rain as they surged forward, their guttural growls barely audible over the roar of the storm.

“What the hell are those things?” Magna’s voice cut through the air, the usual bravado in his tone replaced with genuine fear.

Asta didn’t have an answer. He had never seen anything like them before, and judging by the wide eyes of his comrades, neither had they. This wasn’t just another enemy. These creatures—whatever they were—were something else entirely. Something primal. Something monstrous.

The relationships in this book are beautiful, which isn't surprising as that's where this author shines. We have friendships, poor parental relationships, found family that makes my heart sing, and a romance that develops from one of tolerance at best. I wish people would stop seeing NR as just a romance writer, she's so much more. Her recent trilogies prove that. Still Unnamed DragonStory: I watched the first episode of BBC's Merlin and was like "woah.... what if the dragon under the castle was also a sad little guy..." then thought way too much about the logistics of overthrowing a monarchy

Funnily enough, I have another story idea inspired by Merlin, for which the thought process was basically like "okay what if i did exactly this concept but it actually had a satisfying arc" LMAO that show is really the gift that keeps on giving

"My story was inspired by a subgenre of ancient hp fanfiction, except its actually going to tackle the really big problems in that subgenre and take them seriously while multiplying the Creature Factor by ten so it can tackle a million other xenofiction tropes. Also Megatron from Transformers may or may not have inspired a background character as of my last writing session."

The atmosphere was trembling. The massive Dragon landed on top of the gate, crippling the edges, sending debris and stones tumbling down. 

She jumped off seemingly from nowhere, tiny and fragile next to the enormous creature, fire and anger in her eyes. The countless eye-less souls hovered nearby, drawn to the gates of “hell” by invisible forces. They stared at her in disbelief, for she was not one of them. She did not have a “soul”. She was free, she was one with the Universe and all Existence, and so was her Dragon.

Her eyes were wild as she looked at these lost faces. She turned around towards the gates, with a menacing grimace on her face.

“Open the gates! Your lies are out! Your foul games will not prevail! The minds of this Existence have been imprisoned and manipulated by you for too long! Open your damned gates! Show us the “horrors” that you have been threatening the inhabitants of this Universe with for eons!”, she roared, her voice magnified by the tall towers and walls. The Great One looked at her from above, his chest heaving with ferocity and pride. This was the moment they would destroy the rule of the Liar and Manipulator. 

When her words did not bring about any affect, with empty gloomy gates staring silently at the unexpected visitors, she clutched the ash-black staff tighter and started marching towards them. As she reached the huge black doors, she lifted the staff and to the horror of the on-looking souls began knocking. She knocked seven times and let out a violent scream, staring into the redness that illuminated from beyond. The Great One turned his head and let out a jet of fire, as if to assert the challenge.
