The missile was designed and developed by the Imarat Research Center (RCI) in Hyderabad, in coordination with other DRDO laboratories. This is the third in a series of national stand-off weapons to be tested recently, after a long-range bomb and an intelligent anti-airfield weapon to strengthen the IAF arsenal.

SANT is one of the best airborne anti-tank guided missiles in the world. The missile has the ability to lock before launch and lock after launch. The missile will be introduced after some similar tests on light combat helicopters and advanced light helicopters.

The president of DRDO, Dr. G Satheesh Reddy said that the successful flight test of an isolated anti-tank missile would further strengthen national defense capabilities. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the team associated with the mission.

Stand-off weapons, or isolated weapons, are missiles or bombs that can be launched from a sufficient distance to allow attack personnel to avoid defensive fire from the target area.
