Honestly I can't blame Brad and Janet, if Dr. Frank-N-Furter wanted to frank-n my furt I wouldn't have passed on that either 👀

I mean the thing with ‘Duel Duet’ is that on its own it is a really fun hero-villain face-off song, Cliff De Young gives a really great performance(s) - I love how you can easily differentiate between Brad and Farley’s parts even just on the soundtrack version - and there’s a lot of fun visuals in there…

I especially love the Symbolism of how the layers of Farley’s ‘Sanity for Today’ suit get gradually stripped away until he is left in a pinstriped shirt clearly reminiscent of Brad’s striped straightjacket.

But also, it’s hands-down the song most heavily nerfed in the transition between ‘Rocky Horror Shows His Heels’ and ‘Shock Treatment’.

Because this song was originally written as a Riff-Raff versus Frank N Furter confrontation. And these two characters have an animosity that would’ve been at this point established over the course of two movies. To Riff-Raff, Frank is the extremely abusive boss who degraded him and stole his life’s work for his own personal pleasure. To Frank, Riff-Raff is the unworthy upstart who killed him and stole his child just to spite him. Brad Majors and Farley Flavor literally just met face-to-face, and Brad only found out that Farley exists like a few minutes ago. Even with Farley being responsible for what is undoubtedly the two worst days of Brad's life, there’s really no way for them to match that potential of melodrama.

And even with some elements of the song clearly changed to fit the new plot

There’s enough that feels like remnants of the Riff-Raff versus Frank animosity that it can be a bit… distracting, hearing lines like that -

And thinking about how much more cutting they would be if it was Frank singing it at Riff-Raff.
