what do you need to know about your shifting journey? ✦ pick a card reading
how pick-a-cards work — look at the images above, which correspond to the different piles, and choose the one that feels right for you using your intuition! these are very long and detailed!!
pile one — signs include; van gogh's skull of a skeleton with burning cigarette, eagles, gryphons, valkyries, white painted nails, french tip nails, elf ears, saris, greek updos, garnets and other red gems, barn owls, the guardians of ga'hoole series or movie, goldfish, the house from courage the cowardly dog, houses on hills, pacha's house from emperor's new groove, EKGs and heart monitors, farmer's markets, bouquets, vacation, bikinis, the colour orange, thanksgiving, fall, pumpkins, or squash, angel number 666
hey, pile one! your pile is very interesting, because you got not one but two versions of The Lovers! the tarot deck I'm using came with an alternate card, and I decided to keep both in the deck.
you may be feeling very impatient, resentful, or otherwise frustrated over your shifting journey right now. I want to take a moment to validate those feelings for you. you may be feeling doubt in either yourself or shifting as a whole. the best thing for you to do is remember all of the things you believe in, that you have not or cannot physically see, experience, or feel. do you believe in a higher power? ghosts? do you believe in the validity of science despite not being able to do the experiments yourself? approach shifting in that way — it's a fact of life even if you have not personally experienced it yet.
you're likely needing to reassess your shifting approach. it's funny, I'm playing music to give you some channelled songs at the end of your reading, and as I wrote that sentence, surrender by natalie taylor began.
Whenever you're ready, whenever you're ready Can we, can we surrender?
that's how you have to reassess shifting — you need to learn how to let go, not just of expectation, but to let go of attempting and accepting the fact that you're already in your DR. you might find my post about accidentally grounding yourself to this reality by trying too hard, which you can read here.
in your past, you've experienced a great deal of pain and/or betrayal, possibly by someone you put a lot of love and trust into, or perhaps you feel betrayed by the universe itself. it's time to heal from this rather than holding onto it. I'm reminded of a time that my friend re-read her diary entries from a very traumatic time in order to re-traumatize herself and dwell on her hurt feelings — you might be prone to doing the same. rehashing the same pain, or reanalyzing the same traumatic scenario to find more things to blame yourself for or be angry about isn't how you heal and move on from an experience. instead, try identifying triggers and gain the strength to set boundaries surrounding them.
don't let the trauma from past relationships hold you back from giving or receiving love. by merit of being alive, you deserve love and compassion. you've experienced poor treatment, now make note of the things you cannot and will not accept anymore. anyone who cannot meet or accept that aren't worth your time.
the most important person to love in this world is yourself. even when you are being undervalued and unappreciated, you must find joy and love in yourself. it may seem impossible, but you can even trick yourself into loving yourself. I know because I did it.
have you ever done something ironically — said a phrase or made fun of a silly song or action with your friends, only to be horrified when it manages to become a genuine part of your personality and routine? your brain can't differentiate when you're doing something ironically versus legitimately, it's why so many actors experience emotional trauma while filming — their brain and body only know they're doing the thing, so it must be intentional.
whenever you have a negative thought about yourself or about shifting, I want you to actively combat that with a positive one. I'm so ugly turns into I'm so gorgeous, and over time your brain will realign with this way of thinking. best part? it's actually a way to manifest!
the 6 of swords to me is the reality shifting card, so when it shows up in reverse like it does in your pile, it means there's something keeping you from shifting. it's you.
remember, you cannot swim with stones in your pocket. you must release — as in, heal from — your "baggage" in order to shift. the pain and doubt you're experiencing is anchoring you to your current reality, your current state of mind. free yourself, because only you have the power to do so, even in as small of an action as asking for help.
you may be worried about getting into a situation where someone uses you or lies to you again. don't worry about that. the people that would do that to you aren't worth keeping around. whenever someone does something you can't get past, it's spirit way of saying "this person is not for you or in your best interest." let it's not u it's me by bea miller and 6lack be your new personal anthem.
two of the oracle cards you got were reframe and receive, which just confirms what I've already said. in order to receive your manifestations and your desired reality, you've got to release all that holds you back. when you do, you'll get what you desire.
focus on yourself rather than the actions of others. have you ever heard of the "let them" theory? essentially, you let people do what they want to do, you don't control them. if someone wants to fuck up, do something stupid or mean, that's their prerogative. sometimes the only way people can learn is through experiencing things themself. let them burn their hand on the stove, they'll know better than to touch it next time. and if their actions impact you negatively, set a boundary and hold up to it.
finally, determination and hard work makes things happen. it's not going to be easy to reframe your mind, to let go of the need to control others (as seen as excessively worrying about the potential actions of others), but once you do, you'll be shocked at the joy you have in life and the abundance that comes your way.
and guess what, u-rite by they started playing as I'm writing this. something tells me this was the wake-up call you needed. (seriously, listen to this song if you listen to nothing else. it's actually hilarious that it came up now.)
songs — traitor by olivia rodrigo; surrender by natalie taylor; american wedding by djocean; heal by tom odell; less and less by matt maltese; it's not u it's me by bea miller and 6lack; u-rite by they
pile two — signs include; ladybugs, basil, tarot, candle magic, india, specifically indian wedding traditions and outfits, saturn, multiple signs / synchronicities, mirror magic, mirror scrying, obsidian scrying, dandelions, dragonflies, waterlilies, tigerlily, heart pillows, pollen, stardust, stonehenge, satyrs, monarch butterflies, feeling watched, centaurs, does or fawns, brown bears, grey wolves, the fires in california, orange skies, red and blue dichotomy (your favourite ships may be separated into reds and blues or fire and water), bathing in springs, hot springs, horses and horseriding, ares, jockeys, aragog from harry potter, the chamber of secrets, death eater masks, the forbidden forest in harry potter, large spiders or spiders in general, being thirsty, rootbeer
you may be guarding yourself as a form of self-protection — you can't get hurt if you don't let anything in, right? but this is only hurting you in the long run. you cannot live if you are hiding yourself away. people and life itself may hurt you, but all will be well if you take care of yourself.
putting up excessive walls may feel like safety, but in actuality it's another form of self-harm in my opinion. how can you ever experience the good in life if you block yourself from receiving it? you might be seeing shifting as a way to experience such things like love or friendships without having to compromise your internal Jericho, but the truth is, life in DRs is just as real and complicated and messy as it is in this reality, so you'll feel tempted to build those same walls up in any reality you go to if you don't heal past the thought of needing them.
you are not powerless in this — you have the ability to free yourself. you don't need walls, you need standards.
you may be the type of person who's constantly inspired into making new DRs, or coming up with new things to do in them, having new scenarios with your comfort characters. in truth, this is doing more harm than good at this point. one of the oracle cards you got tells me that you're spending too much time thinking of living in your DR rather than actually trying to experience it. your eagerness to explore is cute and endearing, but ultimately it's making your brain and your emotional-quota turn to mush before you even get there! life is meant to surprise you, so don't ruin the experience by trying to foresee every little thing. that includes constantly checking in with tarot readings or other divination practices. it's definitely tempting — borderline addicting — to get channelled messages, letters, and readings from people in your DR, but if you're constantly focusing on getting something in THIS reality, how can you shift to another one? don't let the instant gratification of divination distract you from your ultimate goal of shifting. you can still feel that deep emotional bond to your DR, the people in it, your s/os without having to hear from them in this reality. lean into the bond to get to your DR. let your excitement to see them outweigh your excitement to hear from them.
overusing and overfocusing on divination is causing a lot of conflict in you, or you may be having conflict in general. I've already spoken about how confusing shifting to interact with your DR loved ones versus using divination to can negatively impact your journey, so let's focus more on general conflict surrounding shifting.
you may be the type of person who feels the need to heavily defend shifting from anti-shifters, or your own personal beliefs from others. you might feel especially demotivated when someone disagrees with you or feel viscerally angry when someone says something outlandish. you'd benefit from reading my post about the "let them" theory here. you've got to learn to brush off the things that don't matter. someone not believing you, or in shifting? let them. it doesn't matter because YOU know the truth. YOU've seen the light. let them miss out on all the fun. don't sweat off your back trying to convince someone who doesn't want to be helped. if you're anything like me, you might be very competitive (hello my fellow Aries placements!). instead of bringing conflict into your life by arguing, choose to channel that passion and energy into (internally) proving them wrong. you don't need to share your experiences or your success to win over someone. sometimes the best and most fulfilling moves are made in silence. pick your fights wisely.
now that we've talked about focusing on your DR, let's talk about how. you've come a long way in life and in your journey. you're likely a much better person than you were before you learned about shifting. your life may look entirely different than it did previously. take a moment to feel gratitude for all that's happened and how far you've come. even the smallest wins are still wins. minishifted? that's still a shift! appreciate what you have and more will naturally come in. if you focus on how or what you lack, you'll only be bringing that in. instead, think of all the good shifting has done for you, all the good you'll experience in your DRs, all the love you feel for the people there and all the love they feel for you. you've earned the right to be proud of yourself, now feel it.
your pile is the only one to have a tarot card come out in indecision (neither upright nor reverse). interestingly, it's the world card, or "the tribe" in my deck. you've found your people, your soul family, the people you were destined to love and be loved by. even when you feel worlds (or realities) apart, the energy created by your love and connection remains. love transcends reality and dimension. in shifting, and in the places you're going, you've found home.
you're probably the type of person who often dreams of or receives signs from your DRs. fantasy by bazzi started playing as I'm writing this. you might benefit from using dreams to shift. here are a few dream methods I like to use;
affirm that when you dream of your DR or people from it, it's because you are dreaming within that DR
make a portal with the intention that it will take you to your dr. I like to use Dr. Strange's hand movements to open the portal or to use my finger to draw it in the air
use a mirror as a portal; you can summon one or use one already in the environment
force yourself to wake up with the intention that you'll wake up in your DR
intend for there to be an object — a button that will take you to your DR when you press it, a door, a portal, a mirror, etc — behind you. I find that this method works best for those who struggle to summon things in dreams otherwise
use accio! this is by far my most-used method. I use accio to summon anything, even people from my DR. I use it to summon wands to cast magic or apparate to my DR, to summon buttons that shift me when I press them, etc
use the LIFA app on your phone — LIFA might be more of a 2020 shiftok thing than shiftblr, but the concept of it especially in dreams is fun to play with. I've personally shifted using this method; I load up the LIFA app on my phone or intend for the phone to already be open on my phone, and then select the icon corresponding to the DR I want to shift to
dig your toes into the floor of the dream like it were sand and let yourself sink below it. you'll fall into the void state and be able to shift
your dreams may also be telling you how you can shift. pay attention to reoccurring themes. for me, I often have a certain persistent physical event happening that tells me what I need to do in order to shift — for example, I uncontrollably leak water from my arms, legs, and fingertips when I need to focus on gratitude in order to shift. other times, I feel energy physically exiting me as though I were a vending machine popping out sodas. that means I need to close my eyes, stay still, and tune out the dream around me, focusing solely on my DR.
you can even "interview" your subconscious or your spirit guides by summoning them in the ways I listed above. it's a good way to check in with yourself, though I must warn you, sometimes there answers aren't clear. I've found my guides often want me to discover things on my own rather than having the answers handed to me.
you might benefit from starting a dream journal, or combing through an existing one in order to find any patterns. when you wake, take the time to distance yourself from the experience and view them objectively, as if you were an observer studying them. your dreams especially surrounding the full moon may be especially prophetic or symbolic.
dreams are another form of higher consciousness. it's a way of exploring different realities and dimensions and even time itself while your physical body recharges and heals itself. remember that you are most connected to every single version of you, as well as every reality you desire, when you dream. dreams are a way of exploring consciousness freely, perhaps even meant to hint to us about deeper forms of higher consciousness like shifting and astral projection.
have compassion for yourself and for others. balance is key — do not become so self absorbed that you forget that others have wants and feelings just as you do, but also do not forget yourself by letting others walk all over you. start thinking about how we — souls — are all connected, similar at our core. we are meant to support, not divide. we are the universe experiencing itself.
if you find that you can't summon things in dreams, take a moment before you go to sleep and intend on what you want to happen — what question do you want your dream to answer? what event do you want to happen. eventually, the desired dream will come if not immediately.
you may be drawn to opulence and luxury in your desired realities, but remember that wealth is not the key to happiness, only to a markedly easier life. but an easy life is nothing without happiness. for example, marrying for money might sound fun and bring security long term, but could you ever be truly happy with someone you're not attracted to or someone who doesn't meet your emotional or sexual standards? find joy at every level in life, don't just focus on making up for the material things you lack in this life.
believe it or not, you're actually a very lucky and prosperous person — it's just a matter of letting all of those good things in, not trapping yourself. you won't be warm without the sun.
moon song by pheobe bridgers started playing. when pheobe sings "so I will wait for the next time you want me / like a dog with a bird at your door" that's the universe and your highest self and your spirit guides waiting for you to let the gifts and happiness in. they can't come in if you've got the door locked.
songs — the hills by the weeknd; so low by spookyghostboy; ultraviolence by lana del rey; act 3: the reason by dennis lloyd; paint the town red by doja cat; runnin' down a dream by tom petty; new magic wand by tyler, the creator; band4band by central cee and lil baby; beautiful by bazzi and camilla cabello; in the party by flo milli; fantasy by bazzi; edge of seventeen by stevie nicks; season of the witch by lana del rey; moon song by phoebe bridgers
pile three — signs include; pumpkins, corn, fall, scarecrows, halloween, books, bella swan from twilight, fog, boxing, binders or sports bras, dutch braids, plants growing where they're not supposed to, weeds, moths, jungles, fairy lights, star-shaped lights, star garlands, garlands, palm trees, ferns, eggs, dyed eggs, faberge eggs, hard-boiled eggs especially in egg cups, pysanky eggs, easter, ukraine, russia, poland, grey foxes, dogs with amber eyes especially grey dogs, grey dogs, sunken treasure, titanic, goblets, treasure chests, eastern asia, mulan, wicked movie or musical, elphaba from wicked, the wicked witch of the west from the wizard of oz, the scene in harry potter and the goblet of fire where fleur is taken into the hedge maze and wrapped with vines and wood, gandalf, blue hydrangeas, disc golf, chiropractor appointments, pizza especially deep dish pizza, comfort food especially greasy comfort food, jon snow or daenerys from game of thrones and a song of ice and fire
you need to actually use the tools and opportunities given to you in order to shift. are your desired realities in your best interest? are these DRs healthy for you, or are you risking a lot of trauma? perhaps you need to script a few more safety measures.
now is the time to look at the things you want, really want, and learn why it is that you want them. don't look for things at the surface, dive deep into why you want to live these lives and why they're important to you. ask yourself, do you really want this? there's no shame in rescripting or not shifting for the plot.
the good news is, your desires are absolutely possible. you have the power to shift and manifest everything you want — just be sure you actually want them. and want them for yourself, not for the people in your DR. you don't need to be someone's emotional rock through, let's give an example, a war or toxic relationship. remember that you too have to live through the difficulties in your DR. you can be there for someone without also putting yourself at risk.
shifting should be about emotional and spiritual fulfillment, about becoming your highest self, not avenging some sort of slight or lack. material things can be exciting and rewarding, but be sure to reward your soul just as much as you do your body or environment.
don't let opportunities pass you by; you have a chance to get everything you want, so jump on it. don't worry about doing things wrong, or being perfect. I was told once that imperfect action can be the most successful one. sometimes, clumsiness is endearing. let yourself experience the beauty of life and consciousness and the process instead of being weight and rooted down by superficiality. choose yourself first, not as a physical body, but as a soul.
you're probably a very logical or methodical person. it's difficult for someone so grounded intellectually to progress upwards in a spiritual sense. some things aren't meant to be understood in the physical realm, you have to go outwards into the spiritual world as well.
how silly would it be if we only thought of health as being our physical body rather than being our mental health or environment? life isn't just about the things you can see and touch, so start exploring your beliefs outside of that in detail. you don't have to agree with everyone, you just have to believe in yourself.
learn how to experience emotions rather than analyzing them. to heal, you need to feel. have you ever tried to ignore an itch? it gets unbearable after a few seconds. your emotions and mental health are the same way. you can't just go oh, I'm itchy, you need to make an action to resolve it. so scratch that itch, let yourself feel and process your emotions. there's a reason you feel better and relieved after you cry.
judging from the music, you're probably an older shifter or were raised by older parents. our childhoods are the last of the "good days", the time without social media being so rampant, the time where you didn't need two jobs to survive, the last good (or well, better) education in America, time when you could actually socialize somewhere outside of your phone. the time we lived in wasn't a great one, but in a lot of ways it feels better than everything going on right now. nostalgia is a beautiful thing, and in a lot of ways it's healing.
maybe that's the key for you, to go back. in a song of ice and fire, Daenerys is told she must go back in order to go forward. what media did you feel so deeply connected to as a child? what worlds did you wish, pray, dream of living in? take stock of the those, and consider making DRs for them. sometimes, children are the most knowledgeable of all.
I personally often shift to places of great significance to my childhood, like my childhood home, the home my grandparents lived when I was a child, and the school I went to as a kid. you may find success in making equally significant places for you into waiting rooms, or shifting to relive your childhood in a better, safer, healthier way.
on a soul level, you are a master shifter. that's a gift you were born with, something you didn't need to work on or earn. you may shift to places that aren't where you intend to go, or you may have shifted very quickly into your journey but haven't made it where you want to go or haven't shifted since. your instincts guide you well.
you likely have many DRs or have a habit of masking or code switching based on your environment. use this great adaptive ability to shift! you have a natural gift that you can apply to shifting, and you've probably never thought of it that way. you are constantly being reborn, lean into it. make it a shifting method. allow yourself to fit into your DR, to code switch or mask as though you are already there. don't carry anything with you from your current reality, completely become and act as though you are in your DR.
you may have success shifting through dreams or by intending to wake up in your DR. let go and let yourself be reborn, just as you do in this reality depending on your environment.
you can also use your dreams to conquer any fears, worries, or doubts about shifting. for me personally, I would summon people who I was worried about in a lucid dream, just to get used to their presence. people are much less intimidating when you actually have them in front of you. use your dreams to heal through regrets, even daydream of it. daydream of the things you wish you did or said. learn what you can do better the next time around. work on standing up for yourself and develop self-confidence by doing these mental scenarios.
you are everything and have everything you could ever need. there is no need to worry or doubt about that. you should actually use that as an affirmation when you go to shift or manifest or have any self doubt at all. develop the relationship you have with yourself. reconnect with who you are at a soul level and who you are in your desired reality (or your current reality if you so choose). it might be uncomfortable at first, but man is it worthwhile.
you might feel the need to compete with other shifters — maybe they're more experienced, more popular, maybe they're shifting for the same person or the same DR as you. none of that matters, that's your ego getting in the way of feeling joy. focus on yourself and your own journey. don't let your ego or lower-vibration thoughts and feelings get in the way of loving yourself or your DRs. don't involve other people in your DRs or your spiritual journey. it's meant to be entirely about you, for you; so let it be.
focusing on yourself and your own journey is the best way to bring in balance to your soul, and ultimately to receive whatever rewards are coming your way.
songs — addicted by saving abel; lips of an angel by hinder; best on earth by russ and bia; black friday by tom odell; teenagers by my chemical romance; me and the devil by soap&skin; riot by three days grace; the phoenix by fall out boy; dream a little dream of me by the mamas & the papas; hometown glory by adele; gimme! gimme! gimme! A list of some things I noticed during the last matinee of Next to Normal UK
Diana pointed and yelled something from upstairs just before Natalie started singing for the first time. Like “wahey” sort of energy
She also absolutely bellowed “dive in with both feet” an inch from Dan’s face
Diana was very insistent that Dan not touch her sandwiches. Kept waving him off
While Natalie was singing Everything Else Diana was peeling the crust off bread slices in time with the beat. I’ve never noticed that before so idk if it was a last day thing or if I’ve just missed it until now but it was very funny.
Natalie looked like she was tearing up in Perfect for You. She was so happy and it was so cute
Dan juggled three pieces of garlic bread during It’s Gonna Be Good lmao
Natalie was so distressed during It’s Gonna Be Good. Like going “please get down!” when Diana climbed on the chair and flinching away from the water. She also mouthed “I’m so sorry” to Henry while everyone else was setting the table
I could hear her sobbing as she ran upstairs
Diana was mouthing “fuck off” to herself a lot while Dan was singing I Am the One.
When Diana started yelling Natalie covered her ears and she was sobbing so hard like the hardest I’ve ever seen someone cry on stage oh my god
Gabe laughed when Natalie came down the stairs in Superboy
Diana kept mouthing “shut up, shut the fuck up” when Gabe and Natalie started singing together
A lot of tears during Catch Me I’m Falling
Gabe was so horrified when he saw the blood during I’ve Been. Like he came on, knelt down on the stage and was just staring at the floor, at one point with his nose like inches from the stage. I’ve seen various interpretations but to me it always seems like he can’t quite understand what’s happened or how it’s got there. He knows he told Diana to join him but didn’t realise how violent that would be? Idk. But anyway then he curled against the counter crying and combine that with Jamie’s unbelievable acting through song and it was a hard watch
During the first verse of Wish I Were Here Natalie kept reaching for Diana
I think there was a muck up matinee prank happening in the wings on (the audience’s) left. As the island was spinning Trevor, Jack and Jamie seemed to notice something and were trying not to laugh. Like they’d look into the wings, smile a bit, and then they’d look at each other and then really quickly look away. This happened for the whole song every time the stage rotated. Caissie also seemed to do the tiniest double take when she faced that side of the stage.
Jack didn’t leave the stage after Aftershocks he was standing in the farthest box. So you could see Gabe’s silhouette in the far corner while the next scenes were happening which was quite powerful.
Diana literally went “what the fuck?” when Dr Madden sent her away after telling her about Gabe
Diana fully gasped as she put the music box down and the intro to How Could I Ever Forget started.
When Diana moved away from Gabe during I’m Alive (Reprise) she had her hands over her heart and she was crying and just kept mouthing “my baby”. It was heartbreaking. Then the realisation hit her of what it meant and she got scared and ran off.
Gabe started crying even before Diana looked at him during The Break. He went from exhilaration during the first verse to suddenly getting scared when Diana came in with “they tried a million meds…”. For the rest of the song he was trying to get her attention, crawling up and down the counter in tears. Then when she touched him he completely broke down and was clinging onto her and crying so hard.
He was also crying when he came out from behind the counter
Natalie sobbed out “stop” when Diana kissed her head in Maybe
I Am the One (Reprise) may deserve its own post but anyway: Gabe was crying from his first lines (Jack was subtly wiping their face on their sleeve between phrases). He absolutely latched onto Dan, and Dan was sob-shouting his lines while Gabe was absolutely screaming his. When Dan pulled away Gabe tried so hard to catch hold of him again so they had this little tussle mid song during the “yeah”s. Dan then backed away, Gabe leaned fully over the side of the counter reaching for him and tried to belt out “I am the one who loved you” with all his soul but his voice broke so badly basically no sound came out until “loved you”. The same happened with the “tried” on the next line. It was absolutely beautiful and so heartbreaking. He then managed to get out the “you’ve always known who I am”, did this massive sobbing gasp afterwards and was just staring at Dan with tears running down his face. “Hi Dad” was so small and cracky it shattered my heart. Dan then slowly walked towards Gabe with his hand outstretched but stopped just before he reached him, and Gabe raised his hand too so their fingers almost touched and that’s when Natalie came in. Gabe then broke down audibly sobbing
Dan started to break when Gabe touched Natalie’s hand but Gabe then stopped at the bottom of the stairs to cry and Dan started absolutely gasping and sobbing and it was so sad. Like he was watching Gabe leave him for a second time and it destroyed him.
Diana was watching Nat and Henry interact in Light which was a lovely moment. She did a kind of “well fair enough” smile when Henry asked if her parents were real

Summaries under the cut
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Young Tristran Thorn will do anything to win the cold heart of beautiful Victoria—even fetch her the star they watch fall from the night sky. But to do so, he must enter the unexplored lands on the other side of the ancient wall that gives their tiny village its name. Beyond that old stone wall, Tristran learns, lies Faerie—where nothing not even a fallen star, is what he imagined.
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Billy, Old Dan, and Little Ann—a boy and his two dogs...
A loving threesome, they ranged the dark hills and river bottoms of Cherokee County. Old Dan had the brawn, Little Ann had the brains—and Billy had the will to train them to be the finest hunting team in the valley. Glory and victory were coming to them, but sadness waited too. And close by was the strange and wonderful power that's only found...
The Witches by Roald Dahl
This is not a fairy-tale. This is about real witches. Real witches don't ride around on broomsticks. They don't even wear black cloaks and hats. They are vile, cunning, detestable creatures who disguise themselves as nice, ordinary ladies. So how can you tell when you're face to face with one? Well, if you don't know yet you'd better find out quickly-because there's nothing a witch loathes quite as much as children and she'll wield all kinds of terrifying powers to get rid of them.
The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan
Since his mother's death six years ago, Carter Kane has been living out of a suitcase, traveling the globe with his father, the brilliant Egyptologist, Dr. Julius Kane. But while Carter's been homeschooled, his younger sister, Sadie, has been living with their grandparents in London. Sadie has just what Carter wants—school friends and a chance at a "normal" life. But Carter has just what Sadie longs for—time with their father. After six years of living apart, the siblings have almost nothing in common. Until now.
On Christmas Eve, Sadie and Carter are reunited when their father brings them to the British Museum, with a promise that he's going to "make things right." But all does not go according to plan: Carter and Sadie watch as Julius summons a mysterious figure, who quickly banishes their father and causes a fiery explosion.
Soon Carter and Sadie discover that the gods of Ancient Egypt are waking, and the worst of them—Set—has a frightening scheme. To save their father, they must embark on a dangerous journey—a quest that brings them ever closer to the truth about their family and its links to the House of Life, a secret order that has existed since the time of the pharaohs.
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
Brian is on his way to Canada to visit his estranged father when the pilot of his small prop plane suffers a heart attack. Brian is forced to crash-land the plane in a lake--and finds himself stranded in the remote Canadian wilderness with only his clothing and the hatchet his mother gave him as a present before his departure.
Brian had been distraught over his parents' impending divorce and the secret he carries about his mother, but now he is truly desolate and alone. Exhausted, terrified, and hungry, Brian struggles to find food and make a shelter for himself. He has no special knowledge of the woods, and he must find a new kind of awareness and patience as he meets each day's challenges. Is the water safe to drink? Are the berries he finds poisonous?
Slowly, Brian learns to turn adversity to his advantage--an invading porcupine unexpectedly shows him how to make fire, a devastating tornado shows him how to retrieve supplies from the submerged airplane. Most of all, Brian leaves behind the self-pity he has felt about his predicament as he summons the courage to stay alive.

hey Natalie, question: why IWW and not AFL-CIO?
Well, my take on the issue is:
The IWW is more democratic, a much better "baby's first org" for aspiring rabble-rousers, more in line with my personal politics, and imo better suited to organizing in today's precarious and unstable employment environment. The AFL-CIO is a federation of business and craft unions and so is plagued by the same problems as any similar institution and might be of limited utility to workers in underlooked industries.
However, because of its horizontal structure and simply because the IWW is smol, it operates more as a "build your own union" kit than a big institutional power you can lean on, and more union is always better than less union, so I'm a big believer in what we call "duel carding." Rabble-rousing is one of those things you learn by doing (insert that Trotsky quote about horseback riding here) and seeing things from both sides of the fence, as it were, can only make you a better organizer.
Tl;dr the AFL-CIO is a corrupt gang of establishment Democrats, so you should join the IWW, but at the same time the IWW is a disorganized confederation of cranks and weirdos, so you should join the AFL-CIO.

We've Lost Her Part 3
Part 2: https://www.tumblr.com/defibrillate-the-hidden/766464696630018048/weve-lost-her-part-2?source=share A Long First-person female resus, male doctor, female nurse, ICU setting
"Ok off!" Dr. John called out as Natalie wide eyed and a bit pale backed away from the bed back into Autumn's view as her head rolled limply to the right into the soft pillow of her hair. The paddles slammed to Autumn's chest only the thin gel pads separating the exposed metal from her bare skin. Dr. John was far more forceful than Natalie had been with the stethoscope moments earlier, his hands pushing the weight of the paddles into her chest so that she could feel each point it contacted with her ribs. "Clear!" his voice called splitting the room like a knife. Autumn felt the skin of her elbows dig into the bedding as every muscle from her jaw to her toes contracted pulling the small of her back off the bedding. In reality she probably was barely far enough off the bed to be visible but it felt as though she were trying to throw herself through the pale ceiling that had lulled and entranced her before. She fell back limply to the bed, the warm energy of the room replaced once again with the cool air against her skin as every muscle once again relaxed to a state of trance like nothingness. She became lost in the sensation, as time slowed, the alarms and energy of the room fading back into her soft trance. Her mind drifted to exploration, the sensual release of a powerful orgasm, learning what that felt like as the body tensed into a million little places only to fall fully limp again, from warm endless sexual energy to nothingness in a millisecond. She felt the cool hairs standing up against her chest, her nipples hardening again against the cold this time surer this time it was arousal betraying her body. "250, charge again!" Dr. John's authoritative voice pulling her back to reality as she watched Natalie turn back to the defibrillator unit to recharge the paddles. Autumn's view became clearer and less trance-like as her eyes traced the young nurse. Chestnut brown hair fell across her soft but pointed face onto two bony shoulders and a slender petite frame that felt simultaneously trying to fill the room but woefully unable to do so. The paddles slamming back to her chest ripped Autumn back to reality, the surprisingly soft plastic of one paddle supporting the light sag of her left breast. "Ok clear!" Dr. John's voice cut through the chaos. Autumn violently twitched her body again, her chest aching as her lungs begged for air, her lips turning cool against the air of the room. Natalie silently obliged, her begging lungs attaching the bag and with a nervous forcefulness ripping Autumn's face back towards the bright lights of the ceiling. Dr. John was more forceful this time, the paddles discarded between her legs only enticed her arousal where his probing fingers had first violated her. The warm moist tickle of gel rubbed against her inner thigh, the soft warmth of Dr. John's khaki rubbed against her wrist as he put weight into the bed and onto her chest. Natalie had once again taken refuge at the head of her bed her soft fingers supporting Autumn's temple her eyes wide and unfailingly watching the doctor waiting breathlessly for instruction. The whole room seemed to hold its breath together except for the puffs of air Dr. John forced from Autumn's chest with each increasingly aching compression. Names in Severance
Studies show that first names tend to be particular to individuals, whereas surnames are tied to the family.
- The You You Are, Dr. Ricken Lazlo Hale, PhD
I went on a deep dive on researching name meanings on Severance, as I'm sure many others have. For those of you not insane enough to do this, my findings are below the cut.
Spoilers up to and including episode four of season two.
Why am I doing this? Well, names play a massive role in this show.
Gabby chooses the name William for her baby but Gabrielle names him Declan, which clues Devon in to something being up with her. The first chapter of The You You Are is about names, and after Ricken's reading Rebeck says she'll have to change her name again.
But most notably: the innies have no last names of their own and don't know the first names of their superiors. This divide is a huge aspect of the power dynamics of the severed floor and seemingly the rest of Lumon, as Cobel is referred to casually as Harmony by Natalie and other superiors but only ever as Ms. Cobel by the MDR department. Helena knowing Milchick's first name and casually calling him by it is what finally confirms Irving's suspicions, and he immediately weaponizes it against him. "Yes, do it, SETH."
I'm listing the full known name at the top (except for repeats like last names being the same) and then the meaning of each name in a subsequent line. So for example "Ricken Lazlo Hale" gets three lines: the first one for Ricken, then Lazlo, then Hale. If it's in the same line it's a different possible meaning for the same name. My own notes are in brackets.
MDR
Mark Scout of Mars (the god) - warlike, indicator, sign someone who goes ahead to gather information about enemies
Peter Kilmer stone kiln worker, famous sacrifice
Helly R. / Helena Eagan torch (Helen of Troy's kidnapping started the Trojan War) little fire

Dylan George toward the tide (going with the flow?) farmer, earthworker
ADMIN
Judd a river, descending, flowing down (the river where Jesus was baptized by John)
Harmony Cobel / Selvig agreement, calm, music (harmonizing two different tones) fishing boat bay of seals (nordic place name, I thought this was meaningless until episode four and now I'm like ???)
Seth Milchick appointed, placed (the third son of adam and eve sent to heal the family after cain killed abel) a jewish dietary law forbidding "boiling a (goat) kid in its mother's milk" (this has got to be on purpose, but what does it mean??)
Natalie Kalen christmas day, birth of the lord slender, fair, blessed, pure, keeper of keys
Ms. Casey watchful, vigilant (this one really convinces me some of these names are chosen with great care)
Doug Graner dark river manager, german place name
Ms. Huang phoenix (literally coming back to life in a blaze of fire)
MARK'S LIFE

And what does all this mean? WELL, some themes I'm picking up on are the water, fire and earth, as well as light and living forever. It's of interest to me that both Gemma and Peter refer to a sort of stone, which is a plus for Mark/Petey shippers. There's a lot of water imagery connected with Lumon, but Eagan means fire. Then there's Huang meaning phoenix, which is rebirth through fire. I'm not sure how to take this yet but it's percolating.
The double meaning of Gemma is also really giving some big clone energy, I'm sorry to say. I know the makers of the show have stated that there's not a clone thing going on, but there's something happening here. I hope Ms. Huang isn't her clone, mostly because they're wildly different looking people whose only real commonality is being asian women.
I've also been looking into alchemy and the Philosopher's Stone as it relates to the themes of Severance, and all of this really rhymes with a lot of that. (I might make a seperate post about it tbh.)
Kilmer meaning kiln worker also really fucks with me, what with the water/fire/earth thing. You need water to mold clay, but firing it in a kiln turns it solid. In the Perpetuity Wing Irving tells Helly: "It’s an unnatural state for a person to have no history. History makes us someone. Gives us a context. A shape. But waking up on that table, I was shapeless." And Mark was a professor of history, and Casey made him sculpt his feelings out of clay, and he sculpted the tree that Gemma hit with her car, which neither of them remember... there's something here, I think.
I think Ricken and his friends, especially Patton, are descended from old money and may even be distantly related to the Eagans.
And then there's Reghabi, which doesn't seem to exist as a name/word outside of this show, but "ghabi" literally only returns results about the Urdu word meaning "idiot". I might be way off base but it makes me worried Reghabi isn't trustworthy. It's giving "the surest way to tame a prisoner is to let him believe he's free".

Any insight or reading recs on what's going on with pwhl minnesota? I was planning to start following this upcoming season and can't really make sense of the headlines coming out of there.
The very TL;DR is: GM Natalie Darwitz was ousted by the league only days after PWHL Minnesota won the Walter Cup after losing a power struggle between herself and coach Ken Klee. She had not initially wanted Klee as coach, but had to turn to him as her original choice abruptly quit weeks before the season started. Notably, team captain Kendall Coyne Schofield, as well as other team veterans, sided with Klee and against Darwitz. Additionally, other Minnesota coaches, who sided with Darwitz, were also fired. Afterwards, at the draft, Klee drafted Britta Curl in the second round, who has liked and posted homo- and transphobic, as well as racist, stuff on Twitter. In the wake of all this, reports have come out of Klee's abusive coaching practices, such as calling players the r-slur and not allowing players who wouldn't be playing in games to practice longer on the ice because they were "taking time" from the "important" players, while simultaneously giving Coyne Schofield and other veterans special privileges such as conducting their own workouts away from the rest of the team.
Here's a link to my recent Tumblr post on the topic that itself has a few Twitter posts. Here's that article about Klee being toxic in the locker room. Here's a quick summary of Darwitz, Klee, and Coyne Schofield. Here's an article about the other coaches being fired, where it's claimed Klee is trying to consolidate power in Minnesota. Here's a more general article about all of this mess. Here's an article about the Curl pick.
Now, I'm not a PWHL-forward blog. I primarily focus on the NHL, and I'm not someone who follows the PWHL more than what I find when I'm doing my beat reporting or what my friends post about. As such, I do open the floor here to any blogs that know more about the PWHL to give a better explanation than I'm able to.

Okay, after watching several Who Framed Roger Rabbit reaction videos, clips from Dimension 20's Mentopolis, and rewatching Shipwrecked's The Case of the Gilded Lily, I believe I'm in the right headspace to do this, so let's get cracking:
In 1930s Hollywood, Priscilla Grey (Prisoner) and Skip Gallant (Skeptic) are private investigators who are trying to keep their business afloat, alongside their long-suffering secretary, Sienna Shade (Spectre). They've been working together ever since Skip took on Priscilla as a client and proved that she was being framed for a crime she didn't commit, and while they've been getting along so far, tensions are running high as business is starting to slowly dry up... until someone new walks into their office.
Dr. Percy Noble (Paranoid) is a biologist who's recently made a breakthrough in his research, but he's realized that it could lead to something incredibly dangerous, so he hid it away. He knows full well that by doing so, he's likely angered some very influential people, not to mention his boss, Jonathan Echo (Narrator). To make matters worse, he's been being followed for the past few days, and he has no idea who they are. Percy's got nowhere else to turn, and he needs the help of Grey & Gallant Investigations... and the story kicks off from there.
Priscilla and Skip's agency owes a lot of their previous notoriety to the fact that their respective twin siblings, Danielle Grey (Damsel) and Simon Gallant (Smitten), are famous movie stars and a Hollywood "It" couple... who are secretly in a lavender marriage. In reality, Simon's in an on-again, off-again relationship with Sienna's brother Colin (Cold), and Danielle's everything but legally married to Willow Chase (Witch), a singer at a club called the Swindler's Den.
The Swindler's Den is owned by a man named Oliver Teagues (Opportunist), who's got a lot of glitz and glam but is also a bit of a shady type, and doesn't do a lot for free. The only person he seems to trust is his faithful bouncer and business partner, Scully Boone (Stubborn). Scully's got a lot of rumors swirling around him about his past, though if you ask him about it, he'll punch your lights out.
There are two people out there who are both Priscilla and Skip's greatest allies and biggest obstacles---Sergeant Harry Knight (Hero), a cop who acts as their insider on the force yet is constantly worried about them getting in over their heads, and Conrad Tracy (Contrarian), a flashy reporter who always ends up writing brilliant news stories about their cases... though, he often winds up publishing stuff about the cases when they're in the middle of them, which is definitely a challenge when they need to be doing secret stuff. Harry's usually working alongside a sharp-eyed detective named Hunter Doyle (Hunted), who's well known for his impeccable survival instincts... and his jumpiness. Still, though, he's good at his job.
Over the course of their career, Priscilla and Skip have come across several criminals---some good intentioned, some bad intentioned. Among those are Stace Racket (Stranger), an art thief famous for their disguises and habit of only taking from other thieves; Chester Dunnagan (Cheated), a pickpocket who would probably be a lot more successful if it wasn't for his constant string of bad luck; and Addison Vernon (Adversary) and Zora Ray (Razor), the cutthroat ringleaders of a organization known as the Crimson Daggers and largely regarded as the power couple of the criminal underworld.
And on the flip side of things, Grey & Gallant Investigations has done several cases for the rich and wealthy, with varying results. Some of their most prolific have been Gary Quinn (Long Quiet) and Samantha Prince (Shifting Mound), who are the execs at Danielle and Simon's studio; Natalie Monroe (Nightmare) a flighty young socialite who makes a habit out of getting herself into increasingly dangerous scrapes for the thrill of it, and Titania Brightower (Tower), an old-money actress who demands power and respect from pretty much everybody. Titania's never seen without her pet cheetah Beatrice (Beast), and tailing after her is her constantly stressed and beaten-down husband, Benjamin Kells (Broken).
I still gotta figure out the story here... but I'll be damned if figuring out everything wasn't fun.

What we should get....
Will thought through the conversation with Sabeena and it was like he immediately was pulled into an out of body experience. In front of him he could see two paths, one where he made the best of his current options, continuing with Verani and going into medical research and pharmaceutical panels and another where he cut his losses completely.
It was like he could see everything clearly. He was stood there in his shit shoe box of an apartment, but he could see the hospital. His friendship with Maggie had changed since she'd got with Ben, him and Natalie were over, she clearly had no problem with Crockett telling him to back off even though he was just there for Carol as nothing more than a family friend. And yeah he and April were becoming good friends whilst she worked with him but it wasn't enough.
His mind spun some more. Natalie no matter what always put him second, or third. He couldn't do right for doing wrong. Choi could have killed a patient whilst under the influence of post op drugs, collapsed in the ED and he doesn't even get a slap on the wrist. Will risks his career to save patients and he is always threatened with his medical licence.
Was this why he became a doctor? Was all of this really worth it? Was this what his life would be like for the next 20 years? Him being tarnished for his past poor decisions whilst everyone around him get theirs glossed over to save their reputation?
He came back to himself, in his shitty kitchen, in his shitty apartment he could barely afford. He was moving before he could really think. He picked up his phone, and didnt have to scroll too far down before he got to the name he wanted.
Hey Con, we've not spoken in a while, I hope you're okay. I'm leaving Chicago, mind if I come visit?
He then power walked to his laptop and booted it up. He opened his email as fast as he could and clicked to write a new one.
To Ms. Goodwin,
This email is to inform you that I am hereby resigning from my position as attending in the ED in Gaffney Chicago Med. I will carry out my month's notice if absolutely necessary however I hope to take my leave affective immediately, like many others before me have been allowed to do. I have realised how this job and place is not for me anymore. Thank you for your support through the years.
Regards,
Dr Will Halstead.
He sends the email without a second thought, and a few seconds later his phone pings with a reply from Connor.
Leaving leaving? Everything ok? And yeah man, come out whenever, you know where I live.
-
Thanks man, Will types, yeah. Long story short, I need a change. I'll tell you more when I get there and I'll let you know when I can leave.
-
Connor replies almost immediately Been there, done that, wearing the t-shirt. It'll be good to see you.
-
Will imagines a different future, with sunshine and a beach and maybe a friend at the end of the day not too far away. He has no idea if he'll remain a doctor, he has no idea how Jay will react when he tells him, but life like this couldn't continue and there was nothing really keeping him in Chicago anymore.
It'll be good to see you too. He replies back, and then sits down, phone thrown down onto the couch slouches against the back of it fully, and feels like he can breathe properly for the first time in a long time.

Hench
by Natalie Zina Walschots
(tl;dr: It's capepunk. There's a sorta-Accord-like character? The book uses some JKR words. : ( ...but it's a book with some good ideas. Like measuring cape-hero damage in 'lifeyears' and opposing it therefor and arguably for ACAB reasons.)
There is no ethical employment under capitalism, but people still gotta eat.
So if you can't make a living wage slinging fries or answering phones, you try dipping your toes into henching for B-lister criminals.
Like Uber and Leet. Or, in Walschots universe, Electric Eel, a villain who seems like he likes incense and peace signs when he's not throwing victims into a pit that's full of ethically-sourced sharks?
The book was readable and I thought it had a lot of promise.
The author is mostly new but clearly into the subject (her other book is apparently erotic love poems to supervillains) and seems like she'd be fun to hang around. The book is pretty good. 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5. It has some new ideas I greatly enjoy. My normal instinct would be to puff the book up to and beyond its deserts, because I parasocial easily and also I want to get new authors a leg up and especially if they show promise to grow into something I'll like even more.
Which is to say that although it doesn't deserve fulsome praise, it deserves praise and I would ordinarily overdo it because--as G. K. Chesterton did NOT say but maybe Oscar Wilde would have (and as HotTakeHoulihan ABSOLUTELY says), "If a thing is worth doing, it is worth overdoing."
But first, before I get into the plot, why am I restrained?
Our protagonist ("Anna", when she's not working) is a woman in her...early 20s? And once, back when signing up at a temp agency, went by the Harry Potter surname "Tromeldov" and regrets it. ..but this is the best name we have for her (the other alternative is her never-used work-name "Palindrome"?) As far as we know, she's "Anna Tromeldov" on her birth certificate or...something?
The author published this book in 2021.
In book publishing years, the timeline between 2019 (when JKR went fully mask off) and 2021 might be longer than it seems.
And maybe the author didn't know because she doesn't pay attention to these things. Plausible deniability exists, and sometimes it's because it's the honest truth.
But it's as if the main character had a crush on a character who happened to be named Hank Atlas Rearden or Eva Dolph Brawn. It's distracting and hinky, but could be not-a-dogwhistle at all. Here's hoping I'm not helping platform a hate-group person. : /
Also, spoilers:
Protag gal signed on for a short gig just standing around with other bodyguards/henchmen at an event for her C-list supervillain boss. She's not strong or powered (maybe in a subsequent book--the sequel comes out in March) but he wanted some women in with all his muscle (which are common enough they're referred to as "meat", in-universe.)
Alas, this wasn't the minor stand-there-and-look-like-a-scary-fireplug job it was set up to be. Electric Eel is a villainous tinker and while his gadgets are usually about as reliable as the X-ray specs from an old magazine catalog (I have never held one of those but I've seen simulations on YouTube), he's got an enslavement ray going and he's kidnapped the mayor's kid.
Protag is unhappy, because she got handed the slave-ray just after the boss told the kid to cut off part of a finger (to demonstrate the ray) and the kid was gearing up to do his best and was clearly going to be allowed to.
It's not at all clear if protag was going to stay obedient much longer, but she seemed pretty frozen by indecision.
Fortunately, a flying brick burst in and knocked her out of the way, destroyed the dingus, beat up all the 'meat', and chased the villain (who was hoo-hoo-ha-ha-ing his retreat and spraying murder-clouds everywhere, killing some people our protag knew.)
And then our protag realizes she can't stand. Later, in the hospital and having to undergo multiple surgeries to partly-reconstruct her leg (Supes hits hard) she learns she's fired for being no-longer-useful as a physical hench, that she's not going to walk for at least six months and will be using a cane after that, and the cops and superheroes have decided the official report is that she was hurt by the villain because superheroes do no wrong.
Shortly after she's evicted, but her best friend takes her in, and during this time?
This is the interesting part
She starts internetting and studying natural disasters and hits on the concept of the "Life Year", which is measuring the impact of things (like COVID) based not merely on how many deaths they caused or on merely how many dollars of damage or lost income they caused, but also things like impaired ability to live life--such as she's enduring--at that time.
And she's meticulous about documentation, and conservative about how she notates her assertions, so when her blog is discovered by pro-cape media they mock and deride it with the spin they can muster, but she starts acquiring her own community of contributors and corroborators.
Bluntly speaking, hero activity isn't just more trouble and damage than its worth, but this is true on an immense scale. Unless you're a mayor's son, I guess.
Soon after, protag acquires a new A-list supervillain employer, who is meticulous and precise and also a powerful combatant with mechanized mail and claws and mask. He'd like her to both continue her research and also--now that it's clear that she's on the same page as he is--help him come up with ways to utterly destroy (what we might call "cancel") or at least nullify the cape threat.
And she does. She becomes pretty cool, and her fellow henches end up with a cute office culture and get. shit. done.
Another review I read (after I finished the book) says she goes full-on-evil. Maybe they're more right than I am, and of course few IRL villains would admit they're being and doing evil to themselves...but she's doing the wrong things, for the wrong reason, but to accomplish the right ends. ...and she'd freely admit this even while twirling the modified cane her employer gave her.
Alas for her, she's made the more amoral facets of the superhero community Very Angry. And so for the final third of the book? She's gonna have to deal with the upcoming climax.
(Also, she's got a crush on her new boss. ...and her best friend--who doesn't mind henching or supervillains at all--is freaked out by her prominence and her importance and...and it sucks to have your BFF cut comms. I expect this'll pay off in a subsequent book, with BFF either becoming a hostage, an adversary, or a secret third thing.)
(Author is demonstrably pro-woman (Yay!) and LGB friendly (Yay! 3/5!) , which are things I'm a fan of, and there are some same-sex couples in the peripheries of the book, but protag seems pretty into only dudes, so I don't really think her profound attachment to her BFF is latently romantic or sexual.)
I can tell you how it works out, and there are some fun bits of media manipulation, office snark, and combat shenanigans. ...and if you ask in the comments I'll answer.
But that's the book. I'm kind of--guardedly--a fan of the protag (and the author), and am sorta cheering as these well-meaning heroic doofuses are retiring or 'being retired' as a result of the protag's efforts. ...because they ARE well meaning. ..and they're killing the mosquitos on the playground with industrial quantities of DDT.
The sequel, "Villain", comes out in March. I'll probably wait until I can get it used, but will want to read it just to see where the story goes.
3.5 stars out of 5, and the protag is more morally gray than Taytay. I love the ideas and approach. At no point in the first third of the book did I successfully guess what direction the story was going (I legit thought maybe she'd end up being courted by the contrite-and-trying-to-do-better flying brick hero, for a time. Also, I did not expect her to get knocked out of the henching junior leagues so decisively or early.)
Maybe I'll check out one of the fanfics (there are at least two) on AO3.

I'll Be Waiting for You by Mariko Turk Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Natalie and Imogen are inseparable, and wildly different—Imogen is infuriatingly humble and incredibly intelligent, while Natalie is brave, jumping into danger and new adventures. Still, one thing ties them their love of the supernatural. Every summer, they vacation with their parents at the famously haunted Harlow Hotel. Imogen is a true believer, while Natalie sees ghost stories as nothing but pure fun. Then, Imogen suddenly passes away from an undiagnosed heart condition that no one saw coming, and Natalie is left to take on the summer before senior year alone. Without Imogen, Natalie throws herself into her senior project. Her passion is still horror, so she plans to spend her summer back at The Harlow Hotel recording fun fake footage that will get her on the teen ghost hunting show of her dreams. And her plans would be a lot less complicated if Leander, her irritatingly attractive arch rival from school, wasn’t working on his senior project at the very same hotel. The longer Natalie stays at the Harlow Hotel, the more she realizes that Leander might be helpful for her project. After all, she could use an extra hand to help record her fake footage. But, when strange things start happening at the Harlow, Natalie wonders, could there really be something to these ghosts after all?

In 2024, their three children--Blossom, Amber, and Cole--are high school seniors, gearing up to go to prom and facing some big decisions of their own. I imagine what the ending of the Legendborn Cycle Series would be... especially Bree's well deserved happy ending. Please know that this ending is completely made up. I hope you enjoy.
Bree and her allies won the war/Camlann but not without many losses and sacrifices. The shadowborn are defeated for once and for all meaning humanity is safe forever. The remaining Legendborn lose their powers and the cycle ends as it is no longer needed. The Order has also been successfully dismantle. Most importantly, the curse that has plague Bree's bloodline for generations has finally ended.
Bree looks towards the sunset and fells hope for the first time after so long. Still, she grieves for the lost lives.
25 year time skip
Bree is a 42 almost 43 year old accomplished, well respected, and awarded winning scientist. She is known as Dr. Matthews
She is happily married for 20 years with four daughters:
1. Faye Eileen (age 18)
2. Nicole Marie (age 14)
3. Selene Esmee (age 13)
4. Vera Anne (age 8)
The identity of Bree's husband is left a mystery as he could be Nick, Sel, or somebody else (please don't hate me 😭).
Bree is having a mother- daughter date with her eldest daughter as she will leave to go to college in a few days. After, Bree takes her daughter to a memorial site of her fallen comrades, allies, and friends who fought with her. Both women place flowers in each grave. Bree talks fondly about them and thanks them for their sacrifice. Bree has a tradition of coming to the memorial site once a year to pay her respects.
As they were about to leave, Alice and her wife Sarah (Sar) walks by and the four women have a hug fest. Alice hugs Bree's daughter tightly and couldn't believe her niece is all grown up 🥹
After, Bree and her daughter go back home. Bree is greeted by her husband and other daughters. Vera, Bree's youngest, ask her mama to read her a bedtime story. Bree retells her story (a cutesy, child friendly version) to Vera until she falls asleep. Bree kisses her daughter's forehead and leaves her room.
50+ time skip
Bree, age 100, lays comfortably on her bed as the sun sets.
Someone walks in her room. That someone is Bree's great- granddaughter named Amelia (the granddaughter of Bree's youngest daughter). Amelia is 16 years old and attends UNC's early college program. She also heavily resembles Bree in her youth. The very image of her.
Amelia sits down next to Bree and holds her hand. Another person walks in the room and that someone is Amelia's mother (Bree's granddaughter). Her name is Natalie (age 42) and next to her is Vera (age 65). All three women sit near Bree and listen to Amelia retell Bree's story. A story passed down through generations.
While telling the story, Amelia fondly mentions Bree's knight in shining armor which may or may not be her great- grandfather.
After Amelia has finished telling the story, they all said good night to Bree. Natalie kisses her grandma on the forehead. They leave Bree's room.
Bree smiles and thinks back to her life then closes her eyes.
She dies peacefully in her sleep.
Bree survived by her four daughters, many grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Her beloved husband died a few years prior. They were married for 70+ years.
The End
**Notes: I'm fully aware of the abatement but I pretend that it either doesn't exist or the cycle ending means no abatement. I want Bree to have a happy and fulfilling ending because she deserves it. My own idea of a happy ending is Bree living to age 100 and getting to see her children and grandchildren grow up which is something the women before her were deprived of.
I originally planned Bree's husband to be Nick (no hate towards Selwyn). But there is a slim possibility that neither Nick and Sel survived towards the end and the husband can be another person Bree meets later on. I want to leave Bree's husband as an open interpretation as to please (almost) everyone in the fandom.
If I had the talent and the patience then I would definitely write a fanfic of this post but I would make Nick the husband of Bree.
