Damn I didn't expect such a response to my ask, guess I struck a nerve. And the response kind of proves my point so that's cool. I didn't say Armand's not popular, just nowhere near as popular as Lestat. That's a fact. Lestat is the most popular in the fandom(casuals and hardcore) as a whole by a wide margin, if Armand in any given poll is anywhere near, it means it's been bombed by Armand's fans. There's another survey with more than double your respondents, Armand was 4th by a small margin, and Lestat had more votes than the next five characters combined. You're telling me now that we're supposed to believe that Lestat is only slightly more popular than Armand? Look up kpop and poll bombing. Kpop fans have the biggest subset of psychos in the world, so for Armand fans to be exhibiting the same behaviors leads me to believe they are psychos too. Lying and gaslighting about other characters is happening as we speak. Caveat by saying that I don't mean all, but Armand has a bigger portion compared to other characters. Coming from a kpop fandom, this behavior is so prevalent that it's not worth talking about. In fact they're proud when they successfully bomb a poll. So I thought I was just pointing out the obvious, but it's still a shame for you if you're trying to do serious field research.

OH THAT CONCEPT FUCKING RULES. how do they access the containment structures upon completion? can u enter them when they're done? how are they constructed? how do they identify the tumors, is it easy to tell when one is there or nearby, or it is subtle? what does it feel like, approaching a chamber? has a tumor ever breached its containment structure? what would that look like?

(was gonna just reply to the post but i have many many questions so maybe an ask is better!)

hiya fable!!!! these are GREAT questions tysm. okay:

1. containment structures are not meant to be entered upon completion, and are unenterable once they’re constructed. the intent is that the area in which construction is currently occurring will one day be a new city, which will be built just like. On top of the containment structures. No issues there!

2. i’m being very literal with this story being about construction workers even though there is also magic (kind of) happening so building them is pretty literal: put up a framework, mix up some concrete, and encase that thang! + then sit around for a while babysitting the concrete while it sets. when you get down to the specifics of this is where there’s sort of magic happening, as there’s ways to temporarily neutralize the tumor during construction as well as ‘warding’ elements on the framework to reduce the chance of it breaking

3. they’re very easy to see!!! i’m imagining something between solaris’ ocean constructions/@/starryguykai’s work on here with superstructures/the brush property you can turn on where each stamp is a slightly different color that i don’t know the name of. anywhere in size from palm sized (dangerous, hard to spot) and a couple of miles across

4. most people are unable to detect when they’re approaching a chamber, or it registers as a feeling as ‘part of the environment’ in a way that’s hard to recognize (like, when i’m at work there’s a ton of ambient fan/equipment noises. when someone turns on the sink in the other room, i can hear it for a second, and then it fades into ambient near instantly. it’s essentially like that!!)

5. yes, EXTREMELY regularly. i want anthell to be About Labor and About Labor Issues so the company managing tumor containment isn’t particularly careful and uses cheap materials often, meaning actually most of the work that druzy’s crew is doing is repairing old chambers that have cracked open, because this isn’t a thing that Actually Works even a little bit. containment failure happens in the last stages of construction EXTREMELY often, nearly always resulting in the death of the entire crew. arronax has been on 4 seperate crews that were killed this way before joining druzy’s, and she’s a little bit thought to be a bad luck omen (or a straight up saboteur) by other workers

They knew too much. Of course, they’d be silenced.

Some muttered prayers, some just accepted their end silently.

Except, the end never did happen.

Fulmer could feel the Ancestor in him become more active, sensing that it was in danger.

Could it… could it save them all?

Who knew?

He could feel it try to take over him, and he let it, feeling as it, as he, absorbed the shockwave, the creaking from the Rig stopping rapidly.

He could feel the energy bounce around him, and he was certain that were it not for the Ancestor, he’d have been vaporised, like the rest of everyone on the Rig.

He felt the temptation to place his hands against the ground he was standing on, and he obliged to his whims, feeling as the force left his body, channelled down… straight down.

“Fulmer…” Rose grabbed his attention, and it was only then he noticed the alarms going off.

Earthquake sensors… that was…

“You’re causing it, Fulmer, that’s…”

came across sth and steamed again abt how i think stem stuff should be more closely tied to the shop-and-home-ec bits of jr high and hs classes

literally the ONE place i've used a WHOLE BUNCH of math stuff that otherwise feels completely inapplicable to real life (as presented in story problems about insane fencing set ups etc) is sewing. like SO MUCH of the geometry stuff, even in fairly basic sewing. holding a little bag you made in your hand is a final product that feels more accomplished than a good score on a math test, and I'm willing to bet a lot of people who couldn't mesh well with the default presentation would fare much better with that sort of personal experience integration. and there's TONS of stuff like that
