Thoughts on Jason Todd’s choice of weaponry?

Oooh, lets see, I'll start with the crowbars because I appear to be like one of three people on the entire planet who actually likes them.

They're a tacky as fuck riff on the fact that Jason's death is central to his character. They overemphasize the manner in which he died, muddy the waters about what part of his death is important to him, and strangely cheapens the manner in which he died through the parody feel of it.

No one seems to really disagree with my analysis here, but I happen to enjoy that about them and think it's very on brand for Jason. What can I say? They're fun!

Best Quality - His Wiggles

This ultra-sharp curved blade used to be his signature character design feature, the way the white streak in his hair is now, and I'm really not sure why it didn't stick!

Best weapon he's ever had, bring it back please!!!!!

The All-Blades

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...

I have mixed feelings about the All-Blades. Like much of Lobdell's work: phenomenal idea, poor execution. Giving the guy who is most known for being morally grey a set of powers that is exclusively based on moral absolutes sucks shit, I gotta be honest, and the trick he pulled on the blood blade was cool but ultimately does nothing to solve those problems.

HOWEVER

I want to love them so fucking badly. A set of glowy soul blades is a dope sicknasty off the chain concept and I wish the well wasn't poisoned with the moral implications and the restrictions to use them only on the "Untitled", a set of enemies that only exist for Jason so far as I can tell. If someone seriously took Jason down a magic based path that removed the DnD alignment chart bullshit, I would be so game to see them come back! Hell I wouldn't even insist on a better cooler design for them!

...though uh, yeah those are the least interesting magic sword designs I've ever seen tbh

Guns - Real Bullets

Excellent, evocative yet simple, straightforwards and to the point. It makes hella sense thematically to boot, love this for him, please give him back his pistols and miniguns and shit

Guns - Rubber Bullets

Hate. HATE. hate ick disgusting bad NO.

I just fucking hate rubber bullets, like, as a concept. I refuse to accept "non-lethal" bullets as a valid use of gun, either in real life or in fiction. Guns are for putting many holes in things very fast!!!! If you're gonna use a gun, fucking well own up to that!!! Do not play this silly ass game of pretending that you can change out the material and do the same things as with lead bullets but with the video game status effect of "non-lethal" applied. YOU ARE GIVING PEOPLE SMALL CIRCULAR BRUISES. This is still harmful, yes, ooph ouchie, but it is not even slightly a good use of a gun, you are wasting holster space, and carry weight, and the physical materials used to make it all!!

JUST USE A FUCKING STICK! YOU DON'T RUN OUT OF STICK AMMO!

My belief in his capacity to take out enemies is shattered the instant those fuckers are on panel. Maybe this ain't entirely rational, or realistic to how fights go with rubber bullets IRL, but I hate them so much on principle that I will ignore any counterargument you might have that they'd work. I will die on this hill. Rubber bullets BAD. Please stop making him use this!!

This is actually his best weapon - sorry wiggly knife, you're being shunted down to number 2 on a last minute technicality! I think Jason is at his best when he's outsmarting people and making long term fucked up schemes to ruin people's lives.

He's so good at it! It's so fun to watch him do it!

Genuinely a shame that this facet of him was mostly lost after Flashpoint, though to give credit where it is due, in Rebirth Jason did ruin the Penguin's life in an impressively elaborate way, which I did really enjoy. I want to see him be a tactical deliberate menace to one person in specific again idk, that's part of why I do kinda agree that he works better as an antagonist than a protagonist - which it should be noted does not mean I think he works better as a villain necessarily, his ethics aren't what matter here - he's just had his best moments as the schemer, and it's hard to have a protagonist schemer even when you make them ethically the good guy.

being knowledgeable about firearms/vehicle weapons and how they work has been an unexpectedly useful skill in terms of thinking up dope weapon designs for mecha because i can take mechanisms that work in real life, but haven't been combined because of things like ergonomics, recoil management and the strength of one person limiting how much ammo you can carry, and then slam them together into something mechanically plausible.

ADEN-style revolver autocannons mounted to a mech's forearm as an auxiliary weapon system shredding targets with 30mm fire.

hipfire automatic shotgun with a 75-round belt-feeding drum mag that loads like a Thompson/RPD hybrid, with a 45° canted foregrip and LMG-level fire rate (think 500rpm minimum) churning out a continuous stream of several depleted-uranium darts per shotshell.

120mm smoothbore anti-materiel rifle with a stock that splits to center the weapon between both shoulders, like the 20mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns on WWII-era warships, paired with recoil shovels that drop down either from the mech's back or its legs so that the firing stance is basically leaning back with both arms forwards while retaining the ability to fire from a more conventional stance.

taking inspiration from ammunition feed systems alone gives you so many stylistic and mechanical options that just aren't available for anything smaller-scale than an armored vehicle. chain-drive automatic cycling, Gatling-style rotating breech/barrel assemblies, mechanical autoloaders for high-caliber single-shot cannons, ammo chutes instead of continuous belt-feed, i could go on for hours. it only gets more customizable if you adapt vehicular ammo systems to gigantic mechanical hands and electronically-actuated moving parts on the guns themselves, or hand-based reloading systems to more complex hardware.

if you can't tell i really like guns that are really fucking big but not quite ship-scale.

he's strong. his unpredictability and personality were positive points in my book. idk i like it when a character doesn't take things seriously but they're strong enough to not be obnoxious

CE: Slime!Momo is such an interesting idea, but I was concerned for a second that she'd have trouble adapting to being nearly liquid and having no solid form. Then I remembered that she's capable of making cannon, flashbangs, and apparently high end military weaponry on the fly, so shes probably fine. Give her a couple of days to figure out how to look human again, and she'll be reworking her quirk by the end of the week.

Yaoyorozu is actually probably the most adaptable member of 1-A, so having the most fluid body would work out well for her. (Her problem is generally that she's too adaptable and struggles deciding what course to take. Learning her slime powers would actually be very similar to her general character arc)

The most interesting part of her having a mostly fluid body is that she'd largely be creating entirely solid builds out of her body, which would require her to learn how to make herself a bit more solid to prevent builds from slipping out of her own body

Also if she pulls the "make a gun and feed it ammo from my own body" trick you could see the bullets being made as they're fed into the gun and that's just fucking dope. Actually depending on the angle you could see that for most of her constructs

I don't follow many AUs, so I might be heavily biased, but I really think The Purgatory Trials is dope! I am proud to be able to see your thought trails when you try to come up with ideas, and to see now you progress with the AU. <3

It depends what my trial would be. The one with beds and a key? There's a high chance I would pass it. The ones that Shin and Q-Taro had? I would be so lucky in this unlucky situation. I think I would also somehow figure out Mai's trial, trying to figure out which gun is heavier (I don't remember if she was allowed to check the ammo, but I still think I would have some chance to figure it out basing on the weight of the weapon.)

But what I'm sure is that I wouldn't survive Kurumada's trial. I have short arms, so if he wasn't able to reach the button, neither would I.

I don't think it would be 0,0%. I think it would be 0,3% or 0,5%. Being in a place like this would put me under a lot of stress and pressure, and I don't think well in situations like this. I would do my best to help, but I don't think I would think logically, especially because there's a huge chance I would experience a brainfog. TwT

🏆Who do you think the ultimate survivors will be?

I played Emotional Route + Reko, so I'll base my answer on this.

One of the people I think will survive is Sara. She's pretty smart, people rely on her and I think she's proven herself already.

Another one is Gin. No special reason, I'm praying that he will survive, or I'll cry. 🙏

Maybe Kanna will also survive.

I think Reko would sacrifice herself for Gin or Kanna, she's giving me a vibe of a big sister (especially because she sniffed Gin after he sniffed her. <33), and I think she'd be capable of doing this.

I don't know about Keiji, though. He mentally doesn't do very well, but I don't think he would die. I'm not really sure what to think about Keiji, so I'll leave Sara, Gin and Kanna, with a chance for Sara, Gin, Kanna and Keiji as survivors.

Can you explain to me, a From Software fan, who's been playing mostly Fromsoft games for 5 years now, why should I play Signalis? Because the game looks dope but I wanna hear what you like about it

Alrighty! I'll try to keep things brief:

Signalis is a totally different game from the From Software ones you're used to. It's an isometric survival horror game--for starters--so counting your ammo and being strategic about combat engagements is integral, but there is also a heavy emphasis on inventory management, map traversal, and puzzle solving (to unlock new areas). The artistic design and narrative beats are also some of the most thought-provoking and emotionally resonating content I have found in gaming. An average playthrough ought to last about 10 or so hours, but I guarantee that this game will have you thinking about it far beyond that initial playtime. If you find yourself even remotely interested in cosmic horror, robot lesbians in space, classical music hitting you in the gut, or witnessing out-of-body experiences that leave you with more questions than answers then Signalis might just be worth a try.

It all started with one man and a bad blowfish, just the wrong man at the wrong time. It should have ended right there but no, he blinked, his eyes soulless and an insatiable craving for human flesh. When he jumped and bit the waitress, it was already too late, the apocalypse had begun. 

It spread like wildfire, from the restaurant onto the streets, the infecteds soon crowded the bustling city of Tokyo, each bite is like a spark for a bloody chain reaction. By the time news broke, the entire city was in chaos, panic took over reasons as the survivors scrambled to gather supplies and hide from the hordes.

It took days for the entire world to be able to reach Japan, a now wrecked and torn country of blood and flesh. Seeing that, all members immediately try their best to reach out to Misaki, who was full well in the middle of Tokyo.

Not having to work, eat anything inside the mall, shooting people, ��To Misaki, this is the life she can get used to. After the first week, Misaki got bored and video called the entire gang to watch her raid a police station. It was definitely a gory one, Ronin laughed, Luca almost puking, Angel worrying the whole time, … a truly memorable experience. From that trip, Misaki got herself a tons of guns and ammos and begin her new game she invented, “shoot random zombies to pass the time”. But after the second month, things started to get repetitive.

It’s officially been 6 months, Misaki’s mind is getting more and more tired as the zombies have entered the mall, making her job to get food way harder than it used to be. Zooming around the city with her scope, she takes a trip down memory lane, remembering all the feelings she felt with others. Suddenly, her crosshair grazed by a familiar figure which caught her off guard. Oh how cruel is the game of fate, always bringing the worst gifts at the worst time. Misaki couldn't believe it, it was her older sister, whom she admired so much, her only rock throughout their harsh childhood and the only family member she had left, is now something else. Her skins pale and sick, lifeless eyes jolting whenever she walk and her body, rots and molds forming everywhere, maggots and worms wiggling in a twisted rhythm of death, it was the last straw. Misaki dropped to her knees, curled up on the cold rooftop and cried, reality hit her like a cold bucket of water - she was alone and no one’s gonna save her, just like her childhood. Days after that, they began to question their own friends, wondering if Angel, Ronin or anyone would care if they died.

 She also noticed that she’s been eating less, maybe to lengthen her days of surviving but what’s the point anymore? She is thought of as dead by the entire world, a world where people with money fled and left the poor to die.

If it weren’t for her friends’ mention, Misaki would have forgotten her own birthday today, everyone’s in the voice call, all hoping and praying for her safety.

“Happy birthday Misaki, i hope you are doing well, you can do this, we believe you, just hang on a little bit more”

Bitter and hollow, that’s what she felt after hearing them hundreds of times, words that used to bring her comfort and hope are now just a reminder of when things were normal, when there was light… The emptiness in her heart grew heavier with each congratulations but she drowned them out with her usual game of shooting zombies based on her friends’ descriptions.

 After everyone took a turn, Misaki spoke up, her voice all happy and optimistic, a trick she knew too well to do: “Well, thank you all for being here with me, I love yall so much. And to end this amazing night. I found the person I wanna kill the most, can anyone guess who that might be?”

Her bosses’ names, school bullies, bad actors from her favorite movies, … All were wrong as her friends tried to guess but failed as Misaki slowly dropped hints, slowly describing her. When all of them got it wrong, she told them the answer is gonna be in chat before turning off her camera. 

Taking a last selfie, Misaki still couldn't manage to smile genuinely for once, she thought to herself as she sent the image. Everyone panicked, their voices desperate, calling her name, pleading with her, but it was all useless.

Misaki put a gun to her head, she felt the cold steel of the gun pressed against her temple. A tear slipped down her cheek as she whispered “Sayonara, see everyone in the after life” before pulling the trigger with a trembling hand, ending all of her suffering and loneliness.

1: Nick Valentine

- He is the only one that seems genuinely interested and devoted to helping you on your journey and find what you’re looking for, Shaun.

- I respect that he prides himself on a sense of serving justice, his story is good and it was genuinely very interesting for me.

- Terminal Hacking is a life saver AUGH thank you Val.

- His voice… His sarcasm…

2: Dogmeat

- Doesn’t talk.

- Never hates you, you can do anything around them.

- You can dress Dogmeat up in collars, bandanas, canine armor, headgear and more.

- Dogmeat will also play with a teddy bear if you give it to him- what a dope guy.

- Is a dog.

3: Codsworth

- Bro is loyal to you even after 200 years. This robot is my real son, he calls me mum. Fuck you Shaun.

4: Curie

- She is literally my wife.

- I adore her voice and accent.

- Supplies me stimpacks which is epic.

5: John Hancock

- Gives me Jack Sparrow vibes. He’s a big smart ass while simultaneously being high asf all the time and it greatly amuses me

- He’s also a big flirt. What a loveable douchebag!

6: Preston Garvey

- Rose why is Preston of all people so high? Yeah, “a new settlement needs your help” can be annoying sometimes, but I personally really like the minutemen quests.

- He just wants to help everyone and with everything and he’s willing to admit that he isn’t strong enough to do it on his own. That makes him the strongest character in my eyes, sure he’s weak in combat but that’s a trait that really speaks to me.

- He knows he isn’t a hero and he’s willing to admit that. But he still strives to be that perfect person, even if it’s far from reach.

- Bonding with him hits hard, I don’t romance him but I love having him as a very close friend. Especially when he opens up to you about how he contemplated suicide. To keep going when you’ve gotten down that low with yourself is also really strong.

- In short I know it’s not a popular opinion, but I love Preston.

7: Paladin Danse

- Best fighter IMO.

- I really like his story esp with helping him improve his view points on the Commonwealth and Synths, as well as himself who ofc, happens to be a Synth.

- Even if he never stops being ENTIRELY racist, even to his own kind.

- He’s very pretty for a boy.

8: MacCready

- Best companion if I wanna be a sarcastic menace.

- Also if I want to get up to some mischief, like stealing and shit.

- His sarcastic dialogue is the best he’s very funny and I love that he plays off of whatever you say.

- Gives me ammo randomly THANK YOU.

- Also his perk is like broken, it’s fucking awesome.

9: Piper

- Super sweet and nice.

- Gives me snacks.

10: Deacon

- Lowkey a meme.

- Fucking hilarious.

11: X6-88

- Highest S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Perks by far.

- He’s cool to look at and his dialogue is fun.

12: Cait

- Doesn’t mind if I act like a dick or take chems.

FALLOUT 4 COMPANION SPOILERS

(And some small lore spoilers)

Anyway, I am a whore. As such, and since Fallout 4 has no negative repercussions for doing so, I have romanced (basically) every romanceable companion in Fallout 4. I have a lot of opinions. I will be ranking the romanceable companions here, with short reasons as to why they've been ranked as such. A follow-up post will include my little fashion makeovers for said companions.

Honorable Mention : Magnolia (one-night stand only, the game doesn't allow more than that. I actually finished romancing Piper *immediately* after leaving Magnolia's room the morning after, funny enough. But still, an interesting side character voiced by the original live action Wonder Woman, what's not to like?)

Disqualification : Paladin Danse (requires siding with the Brotherhood of Steel and FUCK those assholes straight to hell Im not doing that)

NOW THEN :

1. Curie. The second to last companion I romanced, but my favorite. Her storyline about learning to grapple with synth/human emotions and survival needs, experiencing the Wasteland for the first time, and growing into her own person is great. Plus, you get multiple dialogues that include Flirting options- and unlike other companions, each of those dialogue sections includes TWO flirting opportunities rather than just one. Flirting with Curie also makes her adorably flustered. She's also super polite to the other companions, and the Combat Medic perk can save your life in a pinch. Normally I find a french accent slightly obnoxious, but for her it sounds nice.

2. Hancock, mayor of Goodneighbor, the second companion I romanced. Compelling character, great default outfit, enables chaos and chems, solid backup with his shotgun, fun dialogue all around (and that voice tho)... you can't really go wrong with Hancock. The Isodoped perk only adds to the benefits of not using radiation protection in the Glowing Sea, pair with the Ghoulish perk to embrace the nuclear waste.

3. Piper, the first companion I romanced. Her drive for investigation and truth-seeking is inspiring, she's compassionate, she has that little nickname "Blue" for the player-character, she helps you get connected to important characters like Nick Valentine, she gives you sweet rolls... just all-around a really positive presence in a wasteland full of cynics and nihilists. With a highly Charisma-based build, ESPECIALLY in early-game, her Gift of Gab xp boost perk was phenomenal.

3 (yes its a tie). Cait, my third romance. Her tragic backstory and struggle with addiction make for an extreme level of character depth some companions just can't keep up with. Plus, a little spiteful violent fun now and then keeps things interesting. Enabled some of my more questionable decisions, like doping up and melee-brawling a behemoth to death. I like the level of detail that her likes and dislikes around drugs and alcohol shift after her quest. The Trigger Rush perk can be a lifesaver if you're struggling at the end of a close fight.

4. Macready, the fourth companion I romanced, migrant from Fallout 3's Capital Wasteland. Good for ammo in a pinch, didn't mind my occasional thievery, but he's got some flaws. I didn't even know for sure his wife was out of the picture until the conversation where I actively finished Romancing him, and having him galavant around with me while his sick (though waiting to be cured thanks to me) son was god knows where with no family to watch him makes me feel a little guilty. His Killshot perk combined with the railroad Deliverer makes stealthy assassinations much easier, though.

5. Preston "Another Settlement" Garvey. Fuck you Preston Garvey. The last character I romanced and by far the worst. You only flirt with him once before fully romancing him, and he responds with all the passion of a wooden 2x4. Even his Romance dialogue is mostly about how he used to want to kill himself which is just trauma dumping out of nowhere to desperately try to give Garvey any depth at all. Hell, every other companion has a Thoughts dialogue option and a Relationship check-in dialogue option, but PRESTON has "Chat" instead of "Thought" and it uses the same stock few lines as if you choose "Relationship" instead. Plus having him as a companion makes talking to him to complete and receive Settlement quests that much more difficult because sometimes he just won't do those conversations. I hate him. I am going to keep him in Sanctuary to keep an eye on him, but he will not be stationed in the area where the rest of the romanced companions are. He does not deserve a seat at the table, a place in the bed. BUT his unique perk is handy when fighting large groups, so romancing him wasn't a *total* waste of time. Plus, he was by far the fastest to romance, so at least I got it over with quickly. Do like 8 or 9 of those little five-minute settlement quests and he'll be begging to fuck.

Thoughts on the Sig P365? My buddy keeps trying to trade me his for my Berreta M9.

That’s a cash heavy trade on his side for sure. I see new military spec M9’s going for $620, and I think the base P365 is a lot less. I like the P365, but I bought a Glock 43 before it came out and then a Smith and Wesson Shield Plus because I liked the trigger better than the P365 - purely subjective.

The P365 is dope and a good choice. It’s got all kinds of holsters and accessories - the Wilson Combat grip frame is sexy af. There’s no shortage of mags and parts, as it’s pretty much the most popular subcompact “double stack”. The trigger and sights are more than adequate imo.

So then it comes down to its role. I don’t enjoy shooting subcompacts at the range, but sometimes you need deep concealment. From my research and handling of all the guns in that class, I’d say the P365 checks all the boxes I need.

If you do the trade tho I’d try to get an additional $150 or that equivalent in holsters or ammo.

But you could also send the M9 to Langdon Tactical for a trigger job, so there’s that.
