See, now this is an example of a terrible movie that, no matter how fun it may be to watch and make fun of, should not be seen under any circumstances.

You want to give your money to trash like Madame Web or the terrible live action Disney remakes then go for it, sure they may make money and that may result in them making more trash, but who cares? They're not actually harming anyone they're just bad.

Movies like Emilia Perez on the other hand are harming a very marginalised group who are already fighting tooth and nail to even be allowed to exist, they don't need this type of media making their fight any harder.

You had called all the rookies and a few others as well, the first one to show up was Lance. You had become friends with him through your uncle and in the short time you knew him, you both had become close.

You ran up and hugged him, making him stumble back a few steps. He laughed, dropping his bags and wrapped his arms around you.

You let go, patting his shoulders, leading him into the house, he motioned to the driver he had rented to bring in the rest of his luggage.

"Holy shit, are you moving in with me?" You gasped as the man brought in two huge suitcases and went back for more.

"You don't want the stuff I got you then?" He raised his brow, sitting on the couch next to you. You shifted closer to the man and nudged him with your shoulders, making him smile.

"Nooooo, I want the stuff, you can leave though," You shrugged.

"Man shut up," he retorted, "I've got to meet with Nando anyways,"

"Well, I'm still your favourite Alonso though,"

"You literally never were," he bit back, making you gasp, you turned your face away, hand on your chest.

"Outta my house man, ungrateful ass-"

"I'm literally doing you a favour." He deadpanned.

You just stared at him for a second and then broke the silence, incapable of staying still.

"You want a pizza?"

"I want to sleep, jet lag fucking sucks," He groaned, even though the time difference between Canada and Spain wasn't more than his f1 schedule, it was a lot.

"Yeah, come on, I'll show you to your room." You got up, him following.

"By when do the others get here?" He asked as you led him up the stairs.

"Well, Arthur's getting here in like half an hour, Logan and Oscar are getting here by like 5, and Mick's gonna be here by 7, we'll start streaming by like 9 I think," His eyes glistened when hearing Mick's name, obviously happy to have someone he was close with.

I opened the door to the guest room and he immediately made his way to the bed, all but passing out.

You went back down, knowing you'd have to open the door for Arthur soon and I didn't want the bell to disturb Lance. So I opened the door and laid on the couch, scrolling on my phone.

I was lost on TikTok, spam-sending random reels to the group chat.

Suddenly someone grabbed the hood of my hoodie and pulled it, making me jump off the couch and fall on the floor dragging the person down with me.

I opened my eyes to find a laughing blonde bent over my torso.

"What the fuck, Arthur!" you yelled, pushing the still-laughing boy off me, sitting up and adjusting my hoodie.

"Well, who asked you to leave the door open?" He retorted, letting himself fall on the couch, I sat back where I was and he turned, placing his head on my lap, "By the way, did you get a roommate or something?" he asked pointing to the bags.

"Nah, that's just Lance," I said, returning to my scrolling.

"Charlies' asking if we'll be drinking today,"

"i dont know why?"

"So he can call the cops in advance,"

"WE ARENT THAT BAD" I cried out knowing it was a lie.

As time went on, I shifted into a more comfortable position, sleep finally taking us over.

I woke up with a start and startled the boy curled beside me. The doorbell kept ringing a second time, loud and harsh.

"What the fuck," I called out, rubbing my eyes and then remembering Logan and Oscar were supposed to be arriving.

I ran to the door, jumping over Lance's bags in the hallway, opening the door to find my closest friends, "Hi! How are y'all?" You asked, helping them with their bags, and setting them next to Lance's.

You hugged the Brunette and then the blonde who wrapped his arms around you, pulling you in, and making you feel warm.

"How was the flight?" You asked, your hand still around Logan's waist, and his around yours.

The three of you spoke as you walked to the living sofa, where Arthur was finally awake enough to be human.

"Hey, Art," Logan ruffled the other blondes hair and jumped over the back of the couch to sit next to him.

Arthur, who was happy to have someone else to lean on, immediately latched onto Logan, pushing the American down, and passing out again.

"He's jetlagged, or something, I don' know," You shrugged when the boy looked at you for an explanation. "I'll go wake up Lance, y'all know where your rooms are right?" You asked and Oscar nodded, the others either sleeping or trying not to move.

When the man finally woke up, and didn't throw pillows at you with scary accuracy, he walked down the stairs behind you to the living room and greeted the rest of the boys.

You all freshened up and called for some food, waiting for Mick.

Finally, the blonde arrived, smiling and surprisingly with no jet lag.

You guys ate a quick dinner and set up Oscar's twitch channel.

You rubbed your hands together maniacally making the boys look at you questioningly, poor guys, you thought, they have no idea whats planned.

The Start of Something New

This is chapter one of something I've been writing yay

Every year on Oscar Sunday my family and I would make our own pizzas and eat in front of the TV watching our favorite actors win awards. 

"You know one day..."

"You're going to be on that stage. We know, you say that every year." My dad says with a teasing grin. I would smile into my bite of pizza before going back to cheering on my favorite film of the year.

This year is different though. This year I'll be ordering my pizza and eating it in my hotel room. This year I'll call my parents and tell them "I told you so." 

Sure, I haven't actually been nominated (yet) but presenting an award is pretty cool too. Especially at my age. At first, I was a little upset that my movie hadn't gotten nominated, but it's still an honor to be a part of the show. 

I'm smoothing out my dress when I hear a knock on the door. I don't get a word out before my agent rushes into the room. 

"Kiddo you look stunning." She says and I smile to myself in the mirror.

"Thank you lucy. I mean I gotta look good, Billie Eilish might be there." I say and shoot her a smirk through the mirror. 

"I mean, she probably will be. This is her first-ever nomination." My eyes widened. 

"Don't get my hopes up. Dude, imagine she actually wins. I would hand her the award oh my god." Lucy laughs and picks up a necklace. 

"That would be a sight to see for sure. Oh, by the way, Matt was looking for you." I roll my eyes. 

"He knows I'm getting ready. I told him five thousand times." She laughs before patting my shoulder, "He just wants to make sure you're okay. He really cares about you." She gives my arm a quick squeeze, "Car will be here in ten. Come down soon." I nod and look back toward the mirror.

Matt and I have been dating for almost two years. Our relationship is kind of rocky, to say the least. Sometimes he's really loving and sweet and other times it's like I don't even have a boyfriend. Sometimes I wish I didn't. Everyone would always tell me how they felt when they saw their boyfriend. How giddy and happy they would feel. I don't feel any of that. Even when he's being all lovely. I don't know, maybe there's something wrong with me.

As we pull up to the carpet I see the many many flashes of lights. Butterflies erupt in my stomach as it finally hits me. I'm at one of the most prestigious award shows. Holy shit. 

Matt grabs my hand and gently squeezes it. I smile and look at him just to see that he's recording it. Again. I pull my hand away and open the car door without waiting on someone to do it. 

The cheering gets louder as I step out making me blush. Matt gets out right behind me as we line up to start walking down the carpet. 

"Why'd you pull your hand away?" He asks while grabbing my hand again. "I don't want to talk about it right now." I say as Lucy hurries us onto the carpet.

"Alyssa over here!"

"Alyssa! Matt! Look here!"

"Give us a kiss!"

I smile and look at everyone, ignoring the last comment. Not quickly enough, Lucy comes over to take Matt to the end so I can take solo shots. 

As soon as I'm finished I take a deep breath and walk over to Lucy and Matt. I grab Matt's hand and walk into the theater. We make our way over to our seats and sit down. 

"So, we have time, why'd you take your hand away?" I sigh and face him, "I just hate how you can't be cute or whatever without filming it. Youtube isn't the only thing in the world you know."  He rolls his eyes, "Yeah, I know. And acting isn't the only thing in the world." He mumbles under his breath. I take a deep breath not wanting to start an argument now.

As the night goes on and awards are collected I grow more and more nervous. I'm backstage waiting for the commercial break to end before I go out to announce the winner of Best Original Song. 

I almost shit myself when I hear the voice overhead. "Welcome back to the 94th Academy Awards. Here to announce the nominees for Best Original Song, It's Alyssa Greer." The audience claps as I walk out with a smile and wave. I take a second to admire the audience. I'm standing on the Oscars stage. 

"Each of these pieces has powerful and engaging lyrical motifs, combined with dynamic instrumental storytelling that have touched our souls. They created an emotional experience that will remain with us long after the final credits. Here are the nominees for Original Song." I smiled and let out a small breath as the nominees played on the screen behind me. When it got to Billie's name I said a silent prayer that it was her. Suddenly the cameras were back on me. 

"And the Oscar goes to...Billie Eilish and Finneas!" I smile. I see her and her brother get up and hug everyone. They make their way up to me and I hand Finneas his award first then Billie hers. She hugs me tightly, "Thank you, baby." My cheeks heat up and I can't stop smiling. Baby? You can't be doing that to be girl, I will go feral. 

I had been so caught up in my thoughts and staring like a kid in love at Billie, that I didn't even realize they had finished their speech until I made eye contact with ocean-blue eyes. We walked off together, me trailing slightly behind the siblings.

"Congratulations Billie," I whispered in her direction before quickly making my way back to my seat.

The night seemed to drag on. The awards seemed a lot shorter when I was sat comfortably in my own home. But finally, finally, they were over. "Hey, baby we're going to the party right?" Matthew asked. I looked at him confused. "You know, the after-party?" 

"Oh. Right. Sure yeah." He nodded his head happily and pulled me out of my seat to go get dressed in something more suitable for a party. I don't even know what I'm to do at this party. I can't legally drink, everyone here is much older and more famous than me. I'm gonna feel so out of place, and it won't help that Matt will just be vlogging everything.

Sighing I put on a tight sparkly top with matching dress pants. I look kinda hot. "Hey Al, you ready?" I hear from the bedroom. "Yup!"

We make our way down to the lobby and out the door into the car. Here we go.

RWBY Volume 4 Episode 10: Kuroyuri rewatch thoughts

.And starting with the only character who didn't get a part of their story last episode, Oscar.

.I'm 100% sure the reason leaving doesn't feel awful to Oscar is because the reincarnation curse is already mixing both Oz's and his brain

.Why doesn't Oz have something set up so he can get resources when needs to post reincarnation? Maybe taking out the CCT took something like that out the equation.

.Hazel was really like

>Shows up out of no where

>Helps some random kid by denting a whole ass ticket machine with bare hands

>Gives slightly ominous advice > Refuses to elaborate further > Leaves

.Hazel seemed so cool before learning his stupid ass backstory

.This scene makes me wish he hadn't already been shown under Salem earlier, they should have kept him mysterious

.Kuroyuri itself is creepy and the ambience in it's first scene is great, but already having seen two destroyed villages this season lessens the impact a bit

.Hey look, a bike. Mistral having something that only exists in a modern setting for once.

.Baby Lie is so cute :3

.An and Li Ren are both really interesting even if we get only this flashback. An is the most underrated RWBY MILF who said that?

.One of the swords on the stand Lie goes to is clearly based on the buster sword and I like that.

.The very small child trying to buy saké is inherently very funny.

.I love 2D cakes that have my future logo on them for no reason too, Lie! (shout out to the cat bread)

.Ren and Nora's kid models look fine to me, but these comically evil bully kids looks so off, they didn't have a standard model for slightly older kids and you can tell.

.Adopting baby Nora as my own my little dashie style.

.I realized Li just added one letter to his name for his kids name, and Tai hacked off part of his name for his kid. It's just funny to me.

.I really like the scene between Jaune and Ruby here, god Ruby's been through way too much.

.This is probably the volume were angsty Jaune is at his most tolerable, he's still annoying sometimes but he's not a complete asshole yet.

.Holy shit An dying was a shock.

.I don't have many notes on the rest of the flashback, but how Ren semblance unlocks makes me question if it full on repress emotions alongside masking them. Because Ren goes from crying his eyes out to confident and heroic real fast.

.The main reason I don't have notes is because that scene is just good in a way I have trouble commenting on.

.I know some people who would say the Nuckelavee keeping trophies is a sign a human level Grimm intellect but some octopi are know to collect shells of past food and lots of corvids love their shinies.

.The cave itself is quite chilling but it really makes you wonder how it took this long for Nuckes over here to die.

Hey sorry I saw some of your rwby critical posts and thought you'd be a good person to ask this

I'm currently getting into rwby again (after first having watched it at... 14 or sth) and am rewatching the series from the start

I have good memories of it, especially considering girlpower and the like and it seemed to be echoed by the fandom

But now I stumbled across a few critical posts so I'm wondering what I can... Actually except from the show?

Because so far I've mostly been like 'Yay girlpower, interesting lore and somewhen a canon wlw ship!' but uhhh critical posts make me rethink that stance haha

I'm especially kinda worried about Ruby? Because she's pretty much my favourite character and I've read that apparently the team is gonna be pretty shitty towards her in future seasons?

So I'd kinda just like to ask you whether you'd still recommend continue watching the show and if you could maybe give me a warning on what to expect?

Oh my God, I'm so sorry for leaving this in the box for so long, anon.

I think if you are going to continue watching RWBY, please be extremely cautious with your expectations. You might find things in it likable in comparison to my experience, but objectively the series to me is one that is chocked full of negative decisions in regards to both its characters and world building.

Focusing on Ruby herself, she will have MUCH LESS proper development on screen that's actually satisfactory. In terms of characterization, she is the weakest out of all main characters because there is no thoughts or prioritization to her presence in the narrative at all. Ruby feels more like an object to drive the narrative forward instead of its protagonist for a very, very long time. And any development she has either feel lackluster or just straight up meaningless in my opinion. I have mixed feelings about the poor girl, and not in a good way.

As for the girl power aspect of the show, I'd argue that it's extremely shallow. Yes, the girls are doing things, but they're not actually changing anything in the world of Remnant for the better. Hell, many times they are made to be complete assholes to others or incompetent fools who needs someone else to step in to save them, most of them the saviors being men.

That's not a bad thing by itself, but for a show advertising itself as girl power, the girls are often backseating for other characters, namely Jaune. Hell, Oscar, a new character, became more important than Ruby the moment he was introduced despite being treated as a meat bag for most of his screen time.

Point is, you can find actual girl power shows in your 90s-2000s cartoon that actually delivers its promises than RWBY.

And for the WLW....yeah, it's bait. I don't doubt that many liked it and feel represented by it, I'm happy for them. But I'd be lying if I said that it wasn't baiting for people to continue to watch RWBY. It's very shallow, filled with stiff and unbelievable chemistry between the romantic partners, and it didn't even build up properly.

Holy shit, the main WLW ship I'd argue does more HARM to its characters than helping them, because one of the two people in that pair went from being passionate and headstrong to a fucking sniveling coward. What the fuck?? Is this the lesson the audience supposed to learn?? Being with your soul mate turns you into a wet fucking blanket of a person instead of them continue to push you to be more passionate about the important things in your life??? Huh???

So, unfortunately anon, expect EVERYTHING you're nervous about to come true. But again, it's all my opinion. You might find the show enjoyable, and I'm happy for you. But keep your guard up and expectations low is my best advice.

Holy shit folks Leto Atredies was not holding it together by the end there. Shortly before the Harkonnens make their move in the novel the Atredies host a dinner for some of their financial accomplices, and the dude gets sloppy. Like we gotta get a petition together to make Oscar Isaac do a script read here.

So dude's stressed. The writing is on the wall that the Harkonnens are gonna blow up his family and rescuing the crew of that spice crawler like we see in the movie has got him on high alert for saboteurs.  He starts off the shindig by pissing everyone off and giving away the customary party wash basin away to the poor. The water sellers don't like the precedent he's setting and even the serving lady is upset she's not gonna get the chance to sell second hand dirty water after the fact. There's some real tense back-and-forth because a couple of the guests keep flexing their wealth to show their host what they think of his generosity.

So Leto does what any reasonable person would do and dumps his glass out on the ground and insists everyone in attendance do the same. In one action things have gone from ‘double-layered banter’ to ‘its my party and I can force everyone to commit class warfare if I want to.’ Like I guess the subtext here is these guys are bragging about controlling the water and thus the power on Arrakis and Leto is going ‘control deez nuts,’ but for such a philanthropic dude it sure is the sort of gesture that gets the attention of Madame Guillotine. 

So then he dips from the party to go handle some statecraft and leaves Paul to host the dinner. Herbert doesn't say it, but at this point I'm pretty sure the Duke is flipping double middle fingers and making fart sounds with his mouth while making the most aggressive sort of eye contact with the bankers. It must be only a moment, really, that he's laughing, but Kajii feels like it lasts so long and even his giggles are such a rare, golden sound, and- And now he's laughing, too, and it's while both of them are laughing that he can't help but grab Katai and kiss him.

"Wh-" And then Ango nearly jumps out of his skin when he feels the soft kiss on his stomach- glaring down- "Hey-" Mushitaro just continues to kiss the speckling of moles, and Ango feels his face getting warmer and wrmer, before Mushitaro starts moving up and it's too much and he smacks him with the book. "OW- RUDE-" "If you're going to kiss me-" Ango splutters out- "at least do it where I'm not ticklish. Please."

"You're really strong," Higuchi blurts out, and she decides she's going to blame that on the blood loss if anyone asks about it later, even if her side doesn't feel as bad as it looks. Gin only nods, continuing to walk forward, holding Higuchi in her arms. "Like, do I even weigh anything to you?" she's still talking, apparently, huh. Why is she still talking? Gin raises a brow, as if questioning this herself. "N-nevermind me," Higuchi splutters, looking away. "It's just- me being injured. The blood loss is making my brain weird. And thinking about your muscles, like holy shit, where do you work out-?" Gin shifts her hold, and Higuchi lets out a yelp. holy fuck I love Moon knight so much. I love Steven and Marc so much. I love the depiction of DID. I love how their dynamic starts off as very closed off and defensive at first and then grows very close and brotherly. it reminds me so much of our own system dynamics.. like I see myself in Marc.. I see myself and other parts in Steven.

I also love how he's literally just A Guy before Khonsu. he already had DID. meeting Khonsu didn't give him "powers" mimicking DID like other media does. you don't have to stretch or headacnnon it. he is literally a guy WITH DID. it is confirmed. and being Konshus avatar only gave him the suit and it gave him the same shit it gives every other avatar before him. my point being that being Khonsu's avatar was not what the cause of his DID. the show writers and Oscar Isaac did actual research into DID and portrayed it well.

the show also explains the trauma that caused his DID too. they *show* DID. he has DID !!! and he's a hero despite his "flaws", despite not having everything figured out, despite making mistakes. Moonknight shows people like me that I can be okay. he was literally just a traumatized guy who happened to stumble into the world of the gods and I think they show it beautifully through the show

and don't even get me started on the technical aspects. like the use of mirrors??? and the set builds??? the foreshadowing???? I love.

it does make me wonder how they're gonna handle the tension. the a-plot is gonna play opposite (let alone mirror) the b-plot's apocalypse mission. so i'm excited to find out what heights the a-plot will be pushed to! (fatt, as a show, favors world-endings. i imagine we'll confront a past one, and figure's future.)

but plot stuff aside... brnine. holy shit. fantastic scenes this ep, from the crew meeting to the call to gucci to the conversation with thisbe. ali did not miss a fucking beat.

again in partizan parallels, brnine getting chewed out for baseline felt very reminiscent of their conversation with k.o. rooke after orzen. except this time they made the call knowingly, and it was inaction rather than action.

i loved the moment of brnine referencing how the blue channel was used as a distraction by the cause.

i'm really, really excited for brnine and phrygian to run this gauntlet. by which i don't mean the infiltration (although that'll be cool), but the interpersonal gauntlet of being the two people trying to take out the stellar combustor. i... kind of suspect phrygian may not make it through this one, is the thing? (also my hopes for a bottle horror situation in their new tin can are SO high)

that conversation with thisbe--it felt like a really good twist on the han solo/c3po kind of trope for thisbe to ask brnine for reassurance that they'd succeed. not "never tell me the odds", but "show me the improbable future you believe in", "explain why i matter out of the whole universe". very deeply tender in their own specific way. i'm really glad thisbe and brnine made it to this point.

brnine and asepsis: so what are we calling the pilot-divine relationship where the pilot gains the divine's trust enough to take over its role when it's in crisis? suggestions welcome.

(does brnine know they're so trusted? this only occurred to me just now, but like, what the fuck. thisbe, asepsis, the team meeting--their crew trust them so much. do they know that? this is going to keep me up at night.)

the primary/satellite callback was fantastic, but it's also so fucking funny to me to imagine gucci and brnine retiring to open a space truck stop together. gucci already almost died on one of those!

more seriously-- from tm 20: "the second that you start thinking that a loaded gun is romantic is the second you stop being like us and start being like them."

and the tone of that conversation was so funny. you know, in its horror. gucci having an audible breakdown, brnine making plans in response. they've known each other for way too long. i am also glad they made it to this point, but in a kicked-back-eating-popcorn way. (also: acting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

cori this ep: love the kind of pc who takes a loss as a signal that they just need to push farther, fight harder, and fulfill the destiny they're sure they're supposed to have. peak tragedy.

imo the blue channel are a very accurate representation of the kind of crew who are in the shit with no one but themselves. highly specific ways of relating to each other. deep trust. bickering. (work got rough this week, okay, and this ep made me feel very seen.)

I fucking love the lighting. The detail. Oh my GODDD. I fell in love with the glossy effect, in particular. And I don't really understand the technical term, but I feel like the storyboard (and its execution) is incredible. There is no frame wasted and everything serves its purpose to tell a solid story in under 4 minutes.

It is really apparent that the first part is about the legends in their peak days and how it brings them not only everlasting glory known to this day but also sorrow, regrets, failures and suffering.

These particular shots really struck my heart ngl. Arjuna with conflicting feelings (an understatement) after defeating Karna, Jeanne executed in the pyre even when she still believed in God and the good, and Fran being rejected by her creator that she only had herself to hug her.

Then the second half is how even as they hold those pain in their hearts, they move on in a second chance, answering the calls of masters from different eras for a quest for humanity. As the song tells, they still choose to walk forward and trust that there is still something beyond their own life-tale- that's worth fighting for.

I love hands as the bridge of connection between human beings. Besides the aforementioned shots above (and the others that also show the same amount of tragic ends), there is also when the heroic spirits run towards and grasp the hand offered to them. This imagery is something so sincere that it is both so divine yet so human.

And it is tied with how Ritsuka becomes Mash's master, as they offer their hand and she takes it.

Just like how these legends had good and bad in their lives, it is also how it is with mankind. In that aspect, people haven't changed that much, from before and far in the future. Mankind are highly flawed with all the conflicts they inflict yet the good of humanity still exists enough that they are still worthy to live and fight for. And isnt that the general theme of FGO

I noticed that at least for the main representations of the 7+extra classes, none of them is 100% divine being or nonhuman. (Even Fran is made as an artificial human) So the human drama applies very much to their life, whether they gain glory and suffering from it or simply a living record of it.

I noticed because I actually wanted Brynhild to be the Lancer representative lol.

I love the scenes with Fran and King Hassan in their respective original life. So loaded in sadness (Fran) and mystery (King Hassan)

Merlin pulling THAT face when he watches mankind screwing itself from Avalon hits me.

I have never saw the OG Artoria beaming that bright. It's so heartwarming.

Everyone flying towards the light that calls them is MAGNIFICENT. Mash getting up and starts walking in the hallway of Chaldea is also CHILLING. OSCAR WORTHY SCENE NGL.

Especially that Iskandar scene. He flaps his cape while the stairs and the statues rebuild themselves to give way to the king. BADASS.

These two scenes and their transition, just, SO DAMN HEAVY. And the explosions reverted back, symbolizing that there is a possibility that humanity -past and present- can fight to avoid the bad future where everything including the human race is eradicated.

Really deserves that "Beyond the Tale" title. It's even beyond the intended use as a promotional video for a video game. It's pretty much a form of celebration of humanity for me. Probably this will become my new favorite anniversary theme.

I love that we've reached the point in the timeline where people are looking at a movie that was, at the time it was released, a world-consuming, media-influencing, enormous blockbuster hit that spawned a cartoon series and comic books and thousands upon thousands of parodies and was also a little bit of a vehicle for Will Smith's own music...

...and call a major plot point in it "underrated."

Like the description of the target range scene in the OP (which is from 2021 by the way) is not inaccurate, it's what happens in the scene. But the fact that the movie doesn't have characters come out and say "By the way he's right and you should be impressed that he's calm and collected and thinks before he shoots" and there's no massive focus on what an epiphany this is does not mean it's underrated.

It means the scene made its point and you as a viewer understood that point like you were supposed to. It's supposed to just go unsaid, it's supposed to not need to be clarified that Jay is, in fact, correct in everything he says and does up until he tells Zed to get off his back about it.

The table-scoot scene is played for laughs because it's fucking awkward as hell, but also YES. THAT'S THE POINT. HE IS IN FACT JUST DOING THE SIMPLEST, SMARTEST THING AND NOT ASSUMING THAT THE ONLY TOOLS HE'S ALLOWED TO USE ARE THE ONES THAT HE'S DIRECTED TO.

Really the bigger point of contention here is that as the movie progresses, he's allowed to have very few other moments like this. He's just a big dork next to hardass Tommy Lee Jones for a while.

Like. There's a lot in this movie that's stupid as hell (god, save us from the coffee worms and Frank the Pug), but there is SO MUCH that was groundbreaking, extremely well made, well acted (don't even get me STARTED on Vincent D'onofrio holy shit that man was actually possessed and nobody will ever tell me different) well written, and more. There's a REASON people still even remember it at all. It was released in 1997 guys, it's so goddamn old now. It was a WORLD CHANGING EVENT of a movie.

It is in no way underrated. As a SCI-FI COMEDY it was nominated for multiple Oscars and won one of them. It's just old, and people finally started to forget about it.

I feel like nobody talks about this but remember Jay’s “job interview” in the original Men in Black movie? Sure, they play it for comedy, he’s a smartass cop surrounded by all these elite military graduates. But he was also literally the only one in the room smart enough to bring the table over so he had something to write on. And he offers it to the other guys too!

And in the shooting test, on the surface it just seems like a goofy joke when he shoots the little girl cutout in the head, but look at the way he responded to the situation.

The test starts immediately without any warning, we can see that everyone is caught off guard. The other candidates immediately open fire on what they perceive to be threats, but Jay takes a second to assess the situation. He sees he isn’t in any immediate danger, and in a handful of seconds he’s able to scope out several minor details about the targets and hit one with a near-perfect headshot. Jay showed he was an innovative, quick thinker with situational awareness, attention to detail and high-level marksmanship skills, and they never say it outright but I think that’s probably why Zed picked him. (Zed never actually says anything negative about Jay’s performance, just that he has a problem with authority.)

This is highly underrated writing but, then again, this is also the movie where Tommy Lee Jones says “A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago, everybody knew Earth was the centre of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat and 15 minutes ago, you knew humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you’ll know tomorrow.”

I actually did stuff this week! Holy shit, it's a miracle!! We're just gonna dive right in. On Thursday, I went to see Gianmarco Soresi with my dad in Hamilton. It was a pretty fun show, nothing that blew my mind, but still a nice night out. Before we went to see him, we stopped in at a karaoke bar just to kill time and it made me really miss this gay club that my now ex-bestfriend used to go to where they do karaoke once a week. It made me realize how much I miss having friends and doing stuff with people my own fucking age. I also made a new tinder account. I haven't gotten many matches, which is kinda lame, but there's one girl I've been talking to who seems chill.

Friday was my last day of work before my mini staycation. I realized that I've accidentally found myself in the group of 40 year old mean girls where I work. I really like both these people as people but they both have such a holier than thou attitude and talk shit about our other coworkers so fucking much. I mean, I'm all here for the occasional workplace gossip and talking shit about people, I am a judgmental bitch. However, there is a difference between justified shit talk and unjustified shit talk. Talking about someone behind their back because they have asked you twice if you "believe the holocaust happened" (a real question I was asked by a real coworker) is different than talking shit about someone cause they stand too close to you when they talk. Even then! There's a difference between shit talking about people standing too close to you and fucking judging their every move and telling your boss to send them home early. But I digress. In summary, I've decided to start trying to be a better person, essentially. I don't like being mean to people and I don't want people to think I dislike them. Just because someone sucks at their job doesn't make them a terrible person and if I'm the one choosing to pick up the slack when we all get paid the same, I don't get to fucking brag about it.

Anyways, on Saturday, I went out to the aforementioned gay bar. A drag queen told me I look like Pat Benatar twice, but I don't really see it. I also ran into a girl that I had about a week long talking stage with, and then ghosted, because she didn't really take me explicitly telling her I wasn't looking for anything serious as a sign to stop talking about our future together. I feel bad for ghosting her, I don't think it's the mature thing to do and I don't think it's fair to simply run away instead of actually sitting down and having the difficult discussion. I have since apologized to her. The rest of the night was pretty uneventful, istg there were only like six of us dancing and I knew no one after my ex-ish left. Needless to say, I left one hour after the dance party started, but the drag show was fun.

On Sunday and then Tuesday, I drove to Woodstock and went to this antique store. It's like three levels tall and has a shit ton of booths ranging from cool collectibles to old pictures from the fucking Victorian times. It was really fun just exploring what all was there and I had to go back on Tuesday because I ran out of time on the first day. I ended up finding two more Stephen King books to add to my collection, a copy of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water on vinyl, two pictures of a Victorian era lady and her MIL, and a frame to put them in! Tena Hillard and her mother in law now live in a picture frame with a background made of tarot cards! I love them.

Lastly, I finally fucking finished reading The Stand by Stephen King, which I really did not enjoy, and have just started The Picture Of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde, which I am already enjoying way more than the entirety of The Stand.

Well, these fucking things just seem to be getting longer and longer, but I guess that's a good thing? Idk, at least I have stuff to talk about. Although it begs the question of whether or not I'm doing enough. If I was truly busy and truly doing a lot, I wouldn't be talking about doing stuff, I would be doing stuff.
