I’m NOT a Dominic cobb apologist and a part of my brain says he just wanted the best forger in the world on his last chance at getting back his children, but a small part of my brain also says that getting Arthur and Eames together was his parting gift to his them.
He knew Arthur dropped everything for him (I agree with the popular headcanon that Arthur was with eames when mal passed and left him to go with cobb) and followed his sorry ass around the world and took hits thrown by him and for him with no apology in return. So even if he doesn’t make it, he wanted Arthur to find his happiness?
i feel inception wasn’t just making Robert to dissolve his fathers empire but also Cobbs little plan of performing inception on two of his best friends ;
#arthur x eames#Dominic Cobb#inception#I have so many feels about the broken yet so deep friendship between cobb and Arthur

Guy who has not dealt with his trauma and is actively unpleasant to be around and puts other peoples lives at risk numerous times for the sake of his own desperation + his friend who follows him around the world even though he could leave at any time and he'd be better off for it
#i personally do not interpret their relationship as either familial OR homoerotic but rather a third secret thing#the amount of times that cobb tells arthur to do something and then arthur just. does it#particularly in the scene where the team has just found out that if they die in the dream they could get stuck in limbo#of course some of this is the prioritization of the job especially since its yk time sensitive#but i do think its an interesting part of their dynamic#arthur understands more than most why cobb is the way he is and i think he also understands what would happen if he left#cobb would deteriorate and so arthur takes that unto himself#if you need to be mean be mean to me#maybe an obligation to mal and the kids too#arthur and eames is fun to play with of course but the arthur and cobb relationship is so interesting to me#arthur from inception#dominic cobb#dom cobb#inception#movies#film#arthur

My brain did a thing:
An old man
Filled with regret
Waiting to die alone
Right, these two characters probably have more differences than similarities. Their main common points basically are: a) tragically losing their wives - with themselves contributing to that happening; b) IMO being major egoists (Viserys more of a passive kind, Cobb an active one).
Also I can`t help but think about the 'waiting to die alone' part: how, despite wildly different circumstances, both chose their solitude (Cobb was forced to leave his kids - but his emotional solitude was of his own making), and, on the face of it, they had a right to make that choice - except it led (or could have led, in Cobb`s case) to grave consequences for other people. Where does the right to grieve and set one`s boundaries end and the responsibility to and for others begin? Everyone has their answer, it seems.

March 21
What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea. Resilient... highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed - fully understood - that sticks; right in there somewhere.

Fyi this came up while ranking the Inception characters from least to most attractive on a variety of criteria lmao
*Me and @musicallyanonymous talking about Inception*
Me: I am aware that Mal's only purpose as a plot device is to be the tragic, sexy french wife but unfortunately that really works for me.
Them: I know.

do you have any good shakespeare retelling book recs?
what a beautiful time to ask this, says guy who has left this ask collecting cobwebs in his inbox for months! because guess who has two thumbs and just finished queen goneril by erin shields! WHAT a fucking play, holy SHIT, this is some of the best characterization of the lear sisters that i've ever read and the exploration of womanhood as filtered through class + race + shitty families + political maneuvering is so so so good. also the things shields does with the og playtext... chef's fucking KISS
anyway, recency bias aside, i've been meaning to make a post about my favorite shakespeare retellings for a while, and i think i never actually did it because i wanted to make a lear retelling ranking list and then i never read some of the ones on my TBR. so whatever. the learlist will happen someday. here are my favorites in general. (here is my goodreads shelf for the retellings i've read, good and bad, and here is the shelf for the ones i have yet to read.)
in no particular order:
a thousand acres by jane smiley: outsold. epitome of what makes an effective retelling--a book that clearly has something to say about and to the original text, but that also isn't afraid to diverge, to exclude here and zoom in there. ungraciously, this is "lear on a farm" and it starts a little slow, but holy fucking shit, i can't do justice in a paragraph to the way this book unraveled me. one of the best books of all time mayhaps. also, introduced the edmund character by describing his ass. 10/10
the last true poets of the sea by julia drake: i don't read that much YA anymore but jesus fucking christ. books tailored for me specifically. twelfth night retelling about siblings + mental illness + being bisexual + love triangles that actually make sense (emotions are confusing!) instead of being contrived + beautiful description + excellent dialogue + THE MENTAL ILLNESS. books that made me start crying in zoom class in 2020
rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead by tom stoppard: kind of a cop-out answer because we all know this one. but that does not detract from how good it is. this is one of those plays, at least for me, that makes me think, "ohhhhhh, THIS is what theater can do. this is using its medium to the absolute utmost." it is so clever and it makes me want to cry. i think about "i don't know. it's the same sky" more often than i can say
american moor by keith hamilton cobb: not exactly a retelling, but a one-man play about a Black man auditioning for the lead role in Othello, tangling as he does with his relationship with shakespeare's work and cultural dominance. suuuuuch a good fucking play even beyond the analysis of othello (which is excellent); the language is so fucking incredible. everyone who likes shakespeare should read this.
teenage dick by mike lew: modern teenage richard iii; this one's more reimagining than retelling, because it diverges pretty sharply from the plot of richard iii, but god, it's so fucking fun. and upsetting! really upsetting also.
foul is fair by hannah capin: i will be so real. i read this in high school and some of the YA books i've revisited since did not hold up for me. so idk if i can tell you this is "good" with my full chest. but the pitch is "lady macbeth gets sexually assaulted at a party and decides to fucking kill the boys who did it" and i stayed up until like 1am to finish it because it was such a vicious gleaming wild ride
the stars undying by emery robin: does this count? hard to say, because it's just as much a retelling of roman history than shakespeare's antony and cleopatra (honestly, more, since it focuses on the era where caesar and cleopatra were lovers, which is before shakespeare's play). but i'm counting it anyway because it's bisexual space opera cleopatra and it's the best book i've read so far in 2024 and it's making me crazy and i'm writing a thesis on it < genuinely
peerless by jihae park: macbeth, but college applications, featuring asian macbeths (they're twin sisters >:3) who think their classmate has taken their place in their dream school because of affirmative action/DEI. this play is absolutely VICIOUS. it's macbeth x heathers. think it mirrors macbeth in faltering a little in its final stretch, but it still fucks hard
the wednesday wars by gary d. schmidt: okay, not a retelling; this is about a preteen boy in the 60s. but it's one of the best most genuine and heartwarming books i've ever read and it manages to be hilarious while also foregoing cheap slapstick punching-low humor for a hell of a lot of warmth and passion. and the main character interacts with shakespeare a lot as a running theme so i can justify putting it on this list. #evangelizing
of course, i would be remiss not to mention that @suits-of-woe / @mjulianwrites has written the best take on Two Gentlemen of Verona to ever exist, and i mean that quite seriously. unfortunately it hasn't been published yet so we'll all just have to prayer-circle about it. i would also be remiss not to take the opportunity to. uh. coughs. do a bit of casual self-promo. if you 1. have ocd 2. have gender or 3. think about malvolio a lot. boy do i have the novella for you
will definitely add to this when i read more retellings; feel free to drop recs in the tags/replies/reblogs/my askbox!

Robert Fischer x Cobbs Daughter!reader
*COMPLETED*
*This will follow the plot of the 2010 film 'Inception'*
description - Y/n, the daughter of the thief Dominic Cobb and the late Mal Cobb, joined her father on the run. Knowing her fathers innocence, she couldn't bear to be without him, so she gave up on her architecture degree and followed him into the world of dreams. They do jobs together and, even though Cobb worries about the amount of danger he's putting her in, he'd rather her be with him in the dreams rather than on the outside carrying his name like a brand. In the latest job they are given, Cobb searches to find peace and Y/n is confronted with a man who tugs on her heart and infiltrates her dreams.
*reader is 20*
a/n - welcome to my first multi-chapter fic and it is with a character from the talented Cillian Murphy! I watched Oppenheimer the other day, so I've been rewatching his filmography and I obviously came back to Inception. Inception is hands down my favourite film and I think it was this performance that put Cillian on the map as an actor of tremendous talent!
a/n 2 - each chapter will have it's own warnings but the general ones are SPOILERS! (also should there be a taglist for this?)

Loving all the baseball stuff in Ultraman: Rising so far. Hideki "Godzilla" Matsui referenced in the beginning, the double meaning of "I stopped believing in Giants a long time ago," the coincidence of protagonist Ken Sato playing for the same MLB team that Shohei Ohtani signed with last year...
Let's talk about Sato's career batting average though. .420??? In our world, Ty Cobb has the record for highest career batting average with .366. Nobody in MLB has even cracked .400 in a single season since the forties. Baseball is unusual among team sports in that one dominant player can only do so much for his team (see the Los Angeles Angels' many mediocre seasons when they had both Ohtani and Mike Trout), but his ego's well-justified. (Also, it seems like he's only been Ultraman for a few months, but his need to keep his identity secret has added weight here; his achievements would definitely come into question if people found out he was a superhero.) 624 stolen bases would also place him 14th on the all-time list; not as mind-bogglingly impressive, but it's a counting stat and it seems like he has plenty of years left to play.
The line about having never won a World Series is interesting. Possibly the film is set before the Dodgers' championship in 2020, or Sato just joined them afterwards. The only hints about the year we've been given so far are that Matsui was still playing in Japan in the opening (his last season there was 2002) and the main action takes place 20 years later. Or: the film is set in a world where kaiju have been attacking for decades and I shouldn't be taking this part of it so seriously.

Story time because why not I can’t sleep.
I got home around 3am yesterday Mister was at my door by 9am.
Who is Mister? Older man from my kink days. Back when I was heavy on the kink scene. We’ve flirted over the years, he was either in a relationship or I was so it never really aligned if that makes sense. He one of those background characters I kept in my phone just in case.
Mister is older (don’t ask, tad bit ashamed at the age) but he keeps himself up, very much body builder with silver hair, a few tattoos, tall and handsome.
He a very much all or nothing type guy. A Dom who takes bdsm way too seriously. I’m here to have fun and have amazing sex. So we kinda clash on that. The name isn’t bratty for no reason.
Our texting kicked up the week of my birthday. He texted me, we went out, did a little shopping, and had a nightcap. Just drinks, no sex and he sent me home.
The following Thursday (after the calls) he asked if I was busy and if not if I wanted to come over.
As much as I love my apartment I like going to others house more. He has a nice home in Cobb, and I can smoke there so hell yeah I’ll come.
To Mister sex doesn’t exist without kink. If he isn’t being dominate and getting his way he don’t want it. And tbh that’s hard for me because I haven’t done it in so long. But he walked me thru it, nice and slow.
I felt like he punished me for making him wait. I’m made him wait for access and he just didn’t like it. He def took it out on me that first night.
That was a week ago. Our second date was today. I invited him over because after the night I had, I knew I wasn’t leaving the house at all.
He gets here and he has a bag. He not spending the night, not even staying to lunch. He asked for a towel or sheet and he set everything in his bag on there. Rope, clamps, and a few other things.
“I’m going to make you want me.” He told me.
In my mind I’m like good luck. But tbh he kinda did that lol.
Mister worked me through 4 earth shattering orgasms. Two of them while I was tied up.
One of the things that surprised me, was he kept telling me to tell him I love him.
I love what you are doing to me. I love how you are making me feel. I love that you are giving me a few hours to take my mind off my situation. But love you? Lol hell nah.
But I told him, because that’s what he needed to hear. One of the reason these men are so hooked on me is because I become their dream. I tell them what they want to hear, I give them what they want.
2 hours later and we’re done. Just laying in my bed. But he gotta go, I got actual plans today that don’t involve him.
Mister cleaned himself and his items up while I laid in bed. I could get at least two hours of sleep if I tried but I knew I wouldn’t.
By the time he got himself together I could tell he was anxious.
There always this doubt they went to far, did to much, overstepped some boundaries.
But he looked at me and said, “I don’t wanna leave you.”
“Why not baby?” I ask. Mind you I’m still naked, looking up at him.
“You need me rn.”
I almost laughed in his face. I need sleep, I need something to eat, I need a blunt, I need to check on my cat.
He had served his purpose and he knew that. He hoping I don’t fade back into obscurity and ghost him.
But I won’t. For now Mister can stay.

so,
I love the kick scene. The cheeky smirk, the exasperated look, the dangling legs and steady foot hovering near the unstable chair and how mr. zimmers music gives the perfect drop to create one of the most visually satisfying scenes ever.
but.. I also like the immediate line which precedes it.
from the beginning of the movie, we get to see snippets of how arthur is well and truly done with Cobbs shit and the unpleasantness it brings. he knows cobb can potentially sabotage the entire mission, and being the pointman, he needs to ask the important questions, he needs to know how they all wake up. But here, he brings up the previous mishap. while arthur really doesn’t need to add the part he got shot by cobb, he says it anyway..
Is it anger? Is it frustration? Or is it both? Is it both of those and also cause he’s hurt?
that wasn’t the first time arthur was killed by either of his best friends, and even though it comes as some sort of twisted mercy from cobb, it still stings. He hides it as much as he can but he’s only human. it’s not easy to gloss over the fact that despite not being able to kill his own projection, cobb is always ready to kill his only friend who dropped everything and ran away with him. he doesn’t show remorse over it and even here, when arthur does mention it, the most cobb manages is an exasperated eye roll. it’s all arthur will ever get from dominic “one apology” cobb.
eames sees this. he sees thru the brittle anger and fragile frustration and sees how hurt arthur really is. eames also knows that he can’t interrupt and may be try giving a cobb piece of mind or acknowledge arthurs pain, both eames knows that Arthur wouldn’t appreciate. So he goes with one thing he has always been good at in getting Arthur to relax a little.
Distraction. tried and tested and confirmed over the years to get an exhausted arthur to smile, a scared arthur to chuckle, a stressed arthur to smirk, a worried arthur to snort or a sad arthur to give a fond eye roll.
and it works. the moment is stolen from cobb and eames can’t help by smile at arthur levelling him with a lovable bitch face. It’s not perfect, and may be a poor substitute for a hug that eames really wants to give, but he knows he has made arthur tear himself from a bad memory and look at eames with a promise of some laughter.
#each scene of this goddamn movie is so well made#and made to ship arthur and eames#my darlings#eames just wanna see arthur smile okay#inception#arthur x eames#dreamhusbands#arthur and eames#headcanon..ish?

Phylum Round 1
Annelida: Segmented Worms. This group includes earthworms, leeches, and many classes under the umbrella of "polychaete". This diverse phylum encompasses deposit feeders (eating dirt), detritivores, scavengers, deadly ambush predators, filter feeders, parasites, herbivores, and more. They are broadly defined by their repeating body segments and parapodia, which are nubby appendages used for both movement and breathing. Some have curved jaws for catching prey or scraping detritus off of rocks, while others have wide, elaborate feather-like fans for filter feeding. While able to crawl freely, a majority of marine Annelids spend most of their time in self-built tubes or burrows. Among their many important functions, they play a key role in mixing soil/sediment, breaking down decaying organic matter, and providing a key food source to countless other animals.
Nematoda: Roundworms. Split between free-living and parasitic, terrestrial and aquatic, Nematodes inhabit just about every environment on Earth. Nematologist Nathan Cobb once said (paraphrased) that if all matter on Earth disappeared besides Nematodes, we would still be able to identify where everything used to be, simply by the thin layer of nematodes left behind. In the harsh environment of Antarctica's Dry Valleys, these worms dominate the relatively barren ecosystem. The roundworm C. elegans is a widely-studied model organism in science and medicine. Nematodes are also known to parasitize humans, due to their ability to enter a dormant larval state within the muscle of a carrier animal. This is part of why we fully cook pork; to kill any parasites in the meat.
#showing my bias here oops#WORM ON WORM VIOLENCE#sorry y'all I'm literally writing my dissertation on annelid worms <3 come talk to me about bioturbation#and nutrient cycling at the sediment-water interface <3333#nematodes are cool too though! very interesting little guys#cw parasites#annelida#nematoda#animal bracket#tumblr bracket#bracket tournament#poll bracket#phylum round 1#phylum

RIP to the best hitter in Baseball history.
Pete Rose had 4256 hits in his career as player. He is the All-time MLB Hits leader.
For Comparison:
-Ty Cobb had 4189 (#2 all time).
-Hank Aaron had 3771 (#3).
-Barry Bonds, the most dominant offensive player of the steroid era of Baseball? He’s not even in the top 30 of all time. He had 2935. (#37).
Pete Rose also had some, well, some demons. He gambled on baseball games he was involved in, and then repeatedly lied about it. And because of that, the greatest hitter to have ever swung a bat is not in Cooperstown.
