Domenico Ghirlandaio maintained one of the largest painting workshops in Florence in the second half of the 15th century. In the last years of his life he created his most extensive and important work: he was commissioned to re-equip the main choir chapel of Santa Maria Novella in Florence. Ghirlandaio created the high altar for this, among other things - a highlight of the monumental narrative art of that time.

The subject of the depiction is the appearance of Mary in the form of the Apocalyptic Woman. Dominic and Michael appear on the left, John the Baptist and the Apostle Thomas on the right.

The Portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni (also known as Portrait of Giovanna degli Albizzi) is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Domenico Ghirlandaio (1448 - 1494). The portrait was commissioned by Lorenzo Tornabuoni after the death of his wife in 1488 and includes numerous symbolic details. It is housed in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
