every time a wrestler gets a near fall with a move that isnt their finisher and they turn to the ref with that pathetic 🥺✌️❓❓😞 i usually cannot resist gently talking to them through the screen like a small child: sweetie did you hit your finisher on them? no? then dont be surprised its a two count come on you must have learned by now we do this every time! i know it's a trope and suspension of disbelief yadda yadda. but their shocked disappointment at something that must happen to them literally in every single match is quite something

Just realized that Desperado's the main event for tomorrow's show. It got me thinking about just how frequently he's been in the main event spot recently. Almost every night for his block in BOSJ, then the BOSJ block finals, then Dominion, then his own produce show, then a title match main event in the first show of the current tour, and now another title match main event for the last show on this tour. I'm not complaining but I hope he takes a break during the G1!
#Also this is one reason why I think people who want wrestlers to be in the BOSJ and the G1 are not really thinking things through#Especially when the people they want in the G1 are people like Despe and Hiromu#They are human beings who need rest! The tours and the weight classes are structured this way for a reason!#They can't be in tons of main events for an entire tournament and then immediately be in another grueling tournament.....#anyway do you know how rare a despe main event used to be back when I started watching njpw... we are so blessed these days

#i don't mean more tournaments aew does NOT need more of those akdhajd#but just like#tv wrestling that's centered on good matches that matter and that tell entire stories within the body of the match itself#and promos and segments that feel realistic (in a it's easy to suspend disbelief way NOT in a more worked shoots way)#and where the wrestlers involved in those segments feel serious and genuine and not desperate to let you know they're being ironic#like that's what made aew interesting and different let's go back!!!#not saying they can't also do comedy and sports entertainment but like the balance is so off and they've gone SO cartoonish with it it's sad#anyway thoughts brought to you by me watching danny vs bryan just now#aew#text post

Professional wrestling has had me in a stranglehold since the onset of quarantine. It brings me a great deal of joy. By taking advantage of the recent boom in ‘Do You/Have You’ style poll blogs, I hope to share that joy with you.
✮ As their careers progress, wrestlers’ in-ring personas naturally evolve and change. Some wrestlers’ personas, however, have been overhauled to the point they’re virtually unrecognizable. As it’s entirely possible to know one character a wrestler’s played, but not a completely different one, they’ll be treated as separate entities (e.g. El Generico and Sami Zayn will not share a poll).
✮ Five polls are scheduled to release daily. At the end of each week, the most and least known wrestlers shall be awarded with this blog’s very own championship belts.

one day we will unpack race in the swerve vs hangman feud. not right now! but one day
#aew's uneasy relationship with black wrestlers generally but this has been on my mind with swerve's ascent#and also as i'm becoming closer with like. very Normie wrestling fans. and it is very...illuminating#swerve seems to be getting over with Normal wrestling fans who otherwise do not seem to care about black wrestlers#even the exceptional ones beyond an obligatory nod and acknowledgement in passing#and its been on my mind. his portrayal and how it is changing and how his previous actions live on in hangman's anger#like. the genuine fear of having someone break into your home and threaten your family#but also hangman's position (especially as he is Losing His Mind) as Classic (White) American Cowboy#and swerve's position as monstrous (Black) intruder into idealized (white) family life#and of course hangman's position being described as 'main character of aew'. its like. MAN there's a lot of moving pieces#i will be watching how it goes but it is something that i cannot avoid thinking about as we proceed#perhaps it is Not That Serious (not a position i take or believe in but i allow the possibility) but like#ultimately i do feel like perhaps if aew was in a position where it invested in more black wrestlers this would not stand out#oh so blatantly because well. who else is there to compare swerve to?#and of course all of this is taken with a grain of salt ideally because as you know i am a Hater and have not kept up with aew#on my own accord and my knowledge of it is spotty. alas!

It's nice to have a relaxed session once in a while, we spent 5 hours tonight just shopping and doing some rp and it was really fun.
