“Use your purple…..”
Was looking for something to make a Wire wrap rings set from small enough that fits at the top side and can still survive about at least one or two levels of surrounding levels, but instead still working on the full set. Have at least 4 finished and thinking on the next one, might be a Blue that I was thinking it might work, but still busy. Mostly thinking on the level of if it should be able to fit in the set without ruining the idea of course. So, still trying to come up with something that should fit regardless of the size should be at most a blue shades or a black, if that’s where it lands, maybe one red as well, but still have lots to go with. Especially since the scheme of the set is very much so landing on at least Witchy and Winter in most cases. Especially due to the only thing In the way of finishing all of it is the little time it is provided by the time that is there. Though, thinking and might have to do some of them on January or February. Might not have lot of time for the rest in December, but at most a set has begun to form and the next thing might be some time left for at least one more this week. Though, still thinking….
Also mostly been a busy week so might resort to weekend for the rest of it.

November 5
(AM)
In the moments when I’m lonely and longing for a life partner who lives with me and cooks for me and prods me to do the many projects around the house that need doing, I imagine what it will be like to make room in my house for another person. I’ve lived a long time, I contain multitudes, and each of those multitudes requires at least one room’s décor dedicated to it. This décor includes lighting, wall art, and hella knickknacks, which I’m learning are perhaps privileges and not rights. I am a terrible housekeeper. I keep the kitchen and the bathroom mostly liveable at all times, I scoop litterboxes regularly, and I do clean up obvious messes that are clearly out of place (cat vomit, food splatter, errant toiletries). I even keep up mostly with sweeping as I like to pad around barefoot or in socks.
But when it comes to, say, vacuuming the cat hair off the couch or dusting, I am Not Good. I’ve also lived alone for so long that I’ve gotten in the horrible habit of embarking on a Project – hanging knickknack boxes; reconditioning my leather goods in the wake of The Mold Issue (it was penicillin-ish, not the black stuff, praise the baby Jesus) – and quitting part of the way through (usually because of time constraints and a commitment of some kind), leaving the evidence scattered in my wake. (Currently on my floor are a pile of shoes, boots, and purses and some leather cleaner. My knickknack boxes and said knickknacks are strewn across the dining room table and the hearth of my wood stove. My intentions are good. I know that I want to complete these projects and honor the energy I spent starting them. Sadly, motivation and energy are not available On Demand in my life, and significant time elapses between the beginning of the project and the cleaning up of the aftermath.
I have cats. Cats come with shed hair and the occasional DIY beach simulation beyond the litter box. Dust happens. It happens with alarming regularity and perseverance. It’s most pronounced on the shelves that don’t get touched very often (all the stuff that’s just for looking at; the bookshelves that are too rarely visited). As my media consumption leans further toward streaming, dust has enveloped the stereo, CD racks, and TV console. If anyone besides me saw the state to which I’ve allowed my home to be taken over by the assorted cobwebs (imagine Ms. Havisham’s tablescape), I would have the sense to be ashamed. I would also shrug, rail against the social expectations that single home-owning women are expected to meet, and usher my guest out the door to attend whatever function has brought them over in the first place.
At this point it is fair to ask why I don’t just hire a cleaning service. Well. Remember that whole lack of energy and motivation thing? There are conditions in which I am willing to live, but I would never ask someone to clean up after me until my home was in some sort of organized and settled initial state. It’s been at least two and a half years since I can honestly say this has been the case. (That’s not even including the dresser drawer that is almost certainly on the bedroom floor.
First, the cats moved in. I took in the cats when they were three and their owner was moving out of state. His situation involved temporary lodging with a friend and the cats weren’t welcome, so Jack and Lily (formerly Jill) came to live with me. When they came, I’d been a cat-free home for just about a year. Long enough to get rid of litterboxes and food bowls, but not long enough to pull up the wall-to-wall carpet the house came with. And I really wanted to get the carpet up, as my dearly departed Bo, who is really the reason I bought this house, was bulimic for most of his life. And his life was a long one, so he had his own crotchety habits, which included peeing in places that were not the litter box. I cleaned up behind him to the best of my ability, but my guess was that new cats would be able to tell he’d left parts of himself behind. (Besides the handful of whiskers that I collected when they fell out. Did I mention I’m a witch?)
Since the cat acquisition was, on my timeline, relatively rushed, and my bookshelves and couch are heavy, I made the executive decision to cut what carpet I could get to away and go back for the remnants later. The cats are now six, this is officially their Gotcha month, and three years later, we’re all still living with those remnants and the exposed paint splattered plywood floor revealed by removing the carpet. (We’ve also learned a hard lesson about how much insulation that carpet provided in the winters since its removal.)
I had every intention of putting down new flooring, but that requires money. Which I had more of before The Mold Incident.
The Mold Incident announced itself most obviously on a leather duffel bag I brought home from India (21 inches long for $45 US and I had acquired more than my suitcase could hold) and a leather backpack I got in Italy (25 years ago). A person other than myself would have assessed and remediated the situation in a timely fashion, I imagine. I know people exist who don’t have anxiety about phone calls and who get things done rather than letting them pile up, and I wish one of them lived in my house. (Future significant other, I’m looking at [for] you.) I, on the other hand, let the situation continue to worsen until it was obvious that the problem was not going away, no matter how hard I ignored it.
One mold inspection later, I was assured that the mold was of the friendly green-ish antibiotic kind and not the deadly black kind, and assured that the problem was simply one of humidity. Encapsulating my crawl space and installing drainage and a sump pump would keep the mold from coming back. (Remember those two thousand-year floods that destroyed historic Ellicott City twice in three years? I live up the hill from historic Ellicott City and my town also flooded in that second storm. I knew that water was sitting in my crawl space when I saw a wet spot on my bedroom floor.)
Cleaning the mold that was already in the house would cost, I was told, somewhere around $5K. Or I could do it myself, using a one-to-one combination of white vinegar and blue Dawn. All I had to do was wipe down all of the walls, ceilings, furniture, and exposed surface. And launder every article of clothing in my closet and coat rack. A friend lent me a garment rack that lived in my dining room as I took everything out of the closet and put back the mold-free stuff, culling for things that could go to donation bags because my closet was Way Too Full.
I finally gave back the garment rack, but the pile of shoes and bags remains. And the cleaning every exposed surface fizzled out (though the bucket, rags, and ingredients remain at the ready). Encapsulating the crawl space required getting in there and cleaning everything out (the pile of mildewed insulation was…something), which required pulling up part of the floor in the spare room. (Where my contractor saw the places in the floor likely to cave in and installed three new joists to prevent that. He also replaced the part of the wall in the closet that was secretly a hole hidden under siding and, while he was at it, finished the siding on the house that was begun when he built me a new utility room.)
Are you tracking the costs that are adding up? Clearing the crawl space, installing the joists, hanging the siding, and finally the encapsulation itself. Altogether, I basically bought a new economy car and shoved it under my house. The only part of it I can see is the siding, and that’s not even the color I really wanted (because the color I wanted was “premium”; for the sake of all you hold holy get the big things the way you really want them if you possibly can [that should probably go for the small things too]). And my floors are still paint splattered plywood.
(PM)
The hanging of the siding knocked lots of pictures and knickknacks from the walls, which led to the removal of a shelf that held the knickknacks, which revealed paint that needs to be touched up. Well, there’s no point in doing the floors until the walls are painted. Okay, but there’s a fist-sized hole in the electrical panel in the spare room that needs to be patched first. Which I can finally get to now that the HVAC is installed. Did I mention the new HVAC system? Maybe it was a new midline car, one third of which is in the attic.
Where was I?
I’m learning, as I contemplate all of the things I have to move and decide whether to keep and clean, that ownership is one thing, but maintenance of stuff is a different issue. Maybe this is a thing other people learn when they are much younger. Addict. Depressed. Brain issues. Bear with me. I understand that cars involve maintenance costs; so do pets and children. And houses in general require upkeep that isn’t associated with other living situations. I knew relatively early on that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the costs of having a kid – even if I could make it work financially, there are no days off in bed when you’re a parent. I knew I’d made the right decision when a friend told me that for him, parenting made the highs higher and the lows lower. I can’t afford any lower lows.
So I don’t have kids, because on my own, I can’t afford them. I have a 15-year-old car that’s paid for, but also requires the occasional costly repair. It’s easier for me to coax occasional lump sums than a new monthly payment out of my budget, so I hold on to the car and maintain it to the best of my ability. I have a lot of books, which are pretty self-sufficient once they’re shelved, and theoretically it’s easy to wipe the dust from a bookshelf, unless you are a person who has so much stuff some of it gets propped up in front of the books. See if you can guess if I am that kind of person. (Spoiler: I am.)

Ostara - What/Why/When
Ostara // How to celebrate? How to have fun?
My lovely Pagans/Witches/People interested in this topic, I am excited to tell you how I spend Ostara and what you can do during this wonderful day. Do you have holidays or much free time? Are you working and don’t have enough time? Don’t worry, you’ll find something. When is Ostara? -20th March but it is not a problem to celebrate it on 21, 22 or 23rd March. I live in a Christian family that celebrates Easter. That’s why I often celebrate my holiday together with them, where they do Christian things and I do my pagan. After all, many traditions aren’t that different from each other.
What to celebrate?- New Beginnings, Freshness, New Life, Birth, positive changes, spring, recovering nature
Who can help you with your practice? - Eostre= Goddess of Spring and new beginnings (Germanic), Freya=Goddess of Birth and the spring as she returns during spring( norse), Persephone=Goddess symbolizing the Spring. She returns home after the Winter.(Greek), Osiris= This God dies and is reborn, what’s common for Spring Dieties. (Egyptian)
Food - Eggs, with them you can represent the birth and new beginnings. Try an egg-cake. Prepare it in a tart form. You’ll need 150g of asparagus, a bundle of chives, 6 eggs, 70g of creme fraiche, 3 tbs of flour, a bit of salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Prepare asparagus and cut it in 4 cm pieces, chives should be cut in small pieces. Put it aside. Mix creme fraiche with eggs, flour, salt, and pepper and nutmeg and place it in tart form. Throw the chives and asparagus pieces on the top. Bake it for 30 min 175`C. If you live in the northern hemisphere then prepare meals with asparagus, wild garlic, leek, rucola, rhubarb, spinach and with lamb meat or rabbit meat. Support your local farmers!
Altar-
Here is how my altar looks. It has tulips, beautiful spring flowers, that represent the love and mostly they ease any difficulties in love you’re facing. There is a glass bowl with forest moss and eggshells - egg represents the new beginning, also eggshells provide the protection. The salt, representing my element Earth and protection as well. A jar of dried nettle, as it is a refreshing herb that starts to grow during this time. A honey incense - bees are waking up and they’re looking for food now. It’s an important time for them. I couldn’t resist those cute easter alike sweets as well.
Activities: Go for a walk and look for spring flowers. Maybe you will meet a friendly faery on the way. Bake or cook meals with seasonal and regional products. Make a spring bouquet. Clean your house/room. Decorate your room. Wear clothes in pastel colors. Make a spring party for your friends in the garden. Prepare tasty egg liqueur. Do some paper decorations with your friend or your younger sibling. Diy eggs. Ritual: As Polish and raised by Christian family I experienced unique traditions. My family would decorate a basket every year for Easter, and fill it with food that they wish would never lack. People could fill such a basket with anything they didn’t want to miss during a year. Then they would go to church and bless it. I changed the game and I make my own basket, I fill it with bread, money, my favorite photos with memories I loved and so on. Then with my specially prepared “holy water” I bless the basket in the name of gods I honor. So I would have it the whole year, and would never lack what was blessed.
Photos/Credits:I couldn’t find a source of the first photo. Seems to have origins on Pinterest. The other photo belongs to me.

✧ *.🐇Ostara Solitary Rituals🐇*✧
As fresh green sprouts spring from the earth and crocuses bloom, the Vernal Equinox is arriving! Melodic sounds of birds whistle in the air, buns emerge from their burrows, the earth is awake and life resumes again! It's time to celebrate the start of a new cycle and sow seeds of personal growth for the cycle to come! The symbolism of the beginning and child is strong with this sabbat for it's also the start of the Zodiac season where Aries the Ram charges into the new season ready to begin again!
A lot of us witches practice alone and have our own solitary rituals for each sabbat that we observe (or the ones we’ve created just for ourselves that we observe alone!) Like any solitary eclectic witch I do things my own different way but some of these things might line up with others practices. I do refer to some of the equinoxes/solstices/crossquarters by their celtic sabbat names but I celebrate them in a secular animist way and treat the wheel of the year I celebrate as more of an agrarian cycle and celebrating nature. I use sabbat names as a point of reference and also people that do celebrate these witches sabbats more traditionally might find value in my personal practice! Here is my personal correspondences post and my personal Ostara tag!
When I am alone and casting spells a lot of it is visualization/intent so my solitary rituals are more like activities I like to do then specifically casting a spell. If I am doing a spell with an activity based on it a lot would be listening to music to get in the mood and focusing on a candle while visualizing for a period of time! Eves are also important to my celebration as I like to stay up until midnight and cast a spell then!
Spring Equinox’s Eve
Monday, March 19th 2018
Rain Cleansing Rain water is a common magic ingredient in some witches spell and especially with the passing Pisces season and winter’s end bringing a lot of rain, often this time of year there is no shortage of rain water. Use some collected rain water in a spray bottle and spray the air and yourself visualizing the spring rains washing away what's left of winter. Open your window to let in fresh spring air and use the rainwater spray to energetically cleanse the space inside. Optional but you can add drops of eucalyptus fragrance or lily of the valley in it. (I prefer to have it plain since rain smells plain).
Spring Cleaning Clear the last of what you don’t want in your space. Dump old things you’ve been holding on to but don’t necessarily need. Refresh your home. Light incense like rain, green tea or sweet grass as you clean.
Eggshells Save eggshells and clean them out. Make a quiche for Ostara and save all the eggshells as much as possible. Try to make a small hole on one side (preferably the narrow side) to extract the yolk and clean the eggs to keep them handy. With cleaned eggshells you can:
Make eggshell candles You can assign each candle an aspect you’d want to grow or something positive you’d like to manifest by ‘hatching’ into your life such as: prosperity, new friends or new connections. Examples: 1 , 2
Make seed starters By sprouting some seeds in the eggshells you can cultivate herbs/plants you’d like to have for the year. Herbs for the kitchen are probably the easiest and once the plant exceeds the space of the shell, it can use the nutrients of the shell as food. It’s a personal tradition of mine where I enjoy repotting plants or planting things in general for Beltane so by Beltane the sprout would have grown large enough to be planted in it’s own pot or into the ground! Here’s a link on how to make seed eggshell starters.
Spring themed snacks Enjoy some snacks while doing crafts such as pepita seeds, candy eggs, jelly beans, wasabi or snap peas, edamame, sour cream and onion chips and rice krispy treats or rice krispy bird nests if you want to be very festive lol.
Decorate Cleanse and redecorate your altar and space with moss art, (they sell fake moss mats too at craft stores which make pretty centerpieces), egg candles, pussywillow, bulbs, crocus and sprouts. Use images of the march hare to invite energy of vitality, motivation and drive to inspire you to reach your goals for the upcoming cycle!
Egg Tree Create an ostara tree by getting a vase and collecting any branches you find on the ground. Thank the trees for their offerings. Decorate eggs with symbols or whatever has meaning to you and what you’d like to attract to your life and tie them to the branches. Here is a DIY.
Midnight:
Ostara is the ideal time to focus on what you’d like to grow in your life. Focus on what you’d like to nurture for the cycle to come. Prioritize things that will help you reach your goals.
Hatching and Manifesting You can write spells on your saved eggshells symbolizing things you'd want to grow and plant seeds in them. A lot of green witches do magic by tending to sprouts and plants as a link to their manifesting spell to help bring it to life! If planting seeds is not an option then make an eggshell candle and light it while visualizing your intent.
Seeking a new direction Ostara is about life beginning again. If you feel like you need a fresh start, use a tarot deck and shuffle it a few times concentration on a new path. Once you are satisfied, look through it for the fool card. On the card next to it should be the direction you should go towards. If the fool is reversed and looking at the card behind it then it might symbolize you are on the wrong path and focused perhaps on something in your past. The one next to it (technically the one that comes after it in the deck) should be the direction you should focus on.
Birds of a feather! Spring is definitely a time for finding your match whether it be new friends, new connections, new network or a new lover! People are more out and about. An animal that marks spring time to me and also socializing are spring birds especially like the robin or bluebirds. Use feathers in your spells to attract your kind or your mate. (March hare symbolism works too with attraction spells but in my opinion it’s way more sexual than it is about socializing or romance/friendship). Some ideas could be making a charm with a feather to keep on your person that you’ll use when you go out to meet people. The ideas for attraction glamours and spells are endless so I won’t ramble on here lol.
Ostara Day
March 20th 2018
Wear bright greens!! (it's funny cause it also kind of coincides with the green theme of march cause of st patricks day but I don't really celebrate st patrick yet I wear bright greens for spring equinox to symbolize plants sprouting and reviving!) If green isn't your thing wear pastels! A lot of my witchy friends and I LOVE the color Robin Egg Blue for Ostara so that soft blue is my second go to!
Food ‘Growth’ Spell You can prepare a ‘Dragon’s Egg’ bless it with the intent that you’d want it to give you power of determination, courage and drive for the season to come and eat it (like consuming it’s power). I like to make these eggs by hardboiling a regular egg, preparing a sandwich bag of food coloring of your choice (reddish gold is great), add some chili powder and peppers and put the egg in (still with it’s hardshell on) and crush it up while it’s in there. Let the egg soak in the coloring and spices and once you peel it it’ll look like this. If you don’t eat eggs, a great alternative are lima beans. They are big green seeds! I also like to use pepita seeds in a food spell to manifest self growth. You can take a seed and put intention into it then swallow it after.
Green Tea Such as the way pumpkin is the season-long flavor of autumn for me the seasonal flavor is green tea. I think it’s the combination of the color, it’s herbal earthy freshness and it’s ability to wake you up and energize you. Especially if you are on the go today and don’t have time for anything enjoy a matcha latte or a green tea. Savor it’s earthy flavor and feel it making you more awake and alert for the new season!
Whistle to bring in good energy I find the sounds of light flutes and whistling to be the preferred music and or instrument of Ostara. To me it symbolizes the return of the birds and the lightness of spring and also the soft breeziness of the season (also in Wiccanism it's ruled by Air which is interesting). If you are familiar with intoning you can try to cleanse your space with a light and powerful whistle.
Ostara Music I have a few music links on my digital grimoire for each sabbat and some playlists. Flutes is the primary instrument I associate with this sabbat. I like to pick one of the flute sound tracks and open one of the white noise sound tracks and let them play together.
I made a coherent music post here with instructions on how I listen to the music. (I like to layer sounds ontop of each other- usually a natural white noise soundtrack- in this case singing birds for Spring, and then play instrumental music over it).
Connecting with your inner child Ostara is a playful holiday that also honors children. Be extra kind to children close to you today and also get in touch with your own inner child. Make art to welcome spring like watercolor outside or use crayons and don't judge whatever you create. Or treat yourself with things your childself loves such as candy, cookies, blowing bubbles, swinging on swings, jumping on a trampoline. If it's raining or too cold to be outside make a magical pillow fort to do magic in. Make a cream soda float, watch ghibli films. Do shadow work to connect with your inner child. Focus on this next cycle to come by satisfying your inner child's dreams.
Be Outdoors If the day is nice take yourself out for a bike ride or a picnic! Go on an ostara scavenger hunt for magical items for your craft such as a stone you might find and like that you could paint or a four leaf clover, a fresh bird’s feather or a blossom. Remember to ask the plants permission before you take and to leave offerings for gratitude. Seeds edible to animals or local wildflower seeds would be the nicest!
Spring Showers Usually spring equinox has been gorgeous for the past few years but if the day is rainy collect the first spring's showers! It has it’s own magical significance! Spring Showers brings growth for spring blossoms and plants and it is very reviving. If it happens to snow, spring's first snow/frost is magical too but for curses.
Flower Channeling It’s been way too cold for a while to be outside but if it’s nice take yourself to a park or your back yard, find a patch of crocuses or snowdrops and spend a moment to be barefoot on the earth. Feel their gentle energy pushing through the earth to start with fresh optimism. Find that energy within yourself to begin this new cycle.
Rain Channeling If the weather is too unfavorable to do that then find a space in your home by a window and take a moment to channel the energy of Spring’s Shower to your body. You can either put your back against the window if possible or even open the window and let your palms out upright to capture the rain. (Bonus if you want to be that dramatic witch bitch and stand under the rain to really let it cleanse you but I don’t want to give advice that might get people sick if they aren’t careful lol.)
Evening
Feast!! I love making food for Ostara! I always go for spring produce like onions, chives, spinach, butter lettuce, asparagus, carrots, parsnips, peas, sugar snap peas, sprouts and turnips. If I’m making food for myself I go for a nice quiche with a butter lettuce salad and simple dijon vinaigrette. Some dishes I love making are like the cucumber dill yogurt salad, split pea soup, chicken with spring onions and pastel colored deviled eggs. Even if you don’t feel motivated to make anything too complicated for yourself you can make something easily spring themed like ostara ramen lol. [Get a ramen packet and boil and egg in another pot. Top your finished ramen with chopped chives and sesame seeds and a boiled egg. Bam. (Bonus if its green tea ramen noodles).] For desserts I love things that are matcha, praline, pistachio or almond based. I love floral nutty flavors for spring. Getting a simple carrot cake to enjoy should be easy or you could enjoy a simple custard! Years ago I made an Ostara fantasy feast you can check out if you’d like some ideas!
Leave offerings for the Spirits of Spring!
Spring Birds are also always wonderful to work with and fun to leave offerings of food like seeds for! They will help you with socializing and making connections!
It’s always lucky to befriend some stirring plants and leave them something as well. Especially if you whisper to them your secret wishes they’ll try to help them grow!

“Satisfied, you vultures? Your reindeer games are over. Now get the hell out.”
Got busy and didn’t have much else to do for this Winter’s Weekend. Ended up having to maybe do something else later on in January or February at the earliest to finish up everything most likely might have more time then. However, been quite busy with as is the setting up every other items for the Winter’s Eve. Beyond that, not much else to do.

Halloween Kitchen Decor Ideas
Halloween Kitchen Decor Ideas for a unique, turn to the counter space. Set a creepy vignette with candles and add skeleton Halloween kitchen accents. A "trick or treat" sign can be added for any children in the house. Here are some more ideas for creating a haunted-looking Halloween kitchen:
Halloween Kitchen Decor
Table runner
Using a Halloween-themed table runner on your dining room table will give your Halloween kitchen a scary look this October. You can find themed linens at home decor stores such as The Weed Patch. They sell placemats and coasters that feature skeletons and spiderwebs. If you like to change things up every once in a while, try using a table runner that's black and orange.
Halloween Kitchen Decor If you're unsure about the colors to use, go with a farmhouse Halloween kitchen aesthetic. You can use a white-washed container to display dried flowers and pumpkins. A pointy witch hat will elevate your pumpkin decor to a new level. A black-and-white color scheme is also classic, but you can still incorporate a touch of spooky flair with it. For example, you can use a spider web table cloth with twig accents for a sophisticated look.
Halloween Kitchen Decor
Pumpkin garland
This season, make your Halloween kitchen decorations more festive by using a simple pumpkin garland. You can find jute strands with eight Jack-O-Lanterns on them. Alternatively, you can make a centerpiece out of a pumpkin. This idea is both inexpensive and easy to implement. Simply spray paint the cans black, drill holes, and string them up. Then use cinnamon sticks to add a pleasing smell to your home.
Halloween Kitchen Decor A few other fun ideas for your Halloween kitchen include painting miniature pumpkins and putting them in candle holders. You can also place them on your windowsills, or add a miniature haunted house. For a truly spooky ambiance, use candlelight to illuminate your decorations. Remember, it's best to decorate everywhere! This year, you can even buy new styles of pumpkins! Try amber glass pumpkins, which showcase the pale orange of real pumpkins and can even be used as cloches.
Halloween Kitchen Decor
Burlap scarecrow
Make your own Halloween kitchen scarecrow! This simple decoration is made from burlap, hay, and a flannel shirt. Cut a hole in one long edge and use fabric glue to secure it. Cut out a nose and cheeks from felt and glue them to the top of the burlap. Add a straw hat and a few small bunches of hay and nail them to the board under the burlap. You may want to use permanent markers to draw on the mouth, nose, and eyes.
Halloween Kitchen Decor If you don't want your scarecrow to scare your guests, make it yourself. Burlap is inexpensive and easy to find in a craft store. Burlap is commonly used as a plant cover or to wrap plants during the winter. You can also draw on a goofy face or a werewolf face. Whatever you choose, it will definitely be a conversation starter at your next Halloween kitchen gathering!
Halloween Kitchen Decor Burlap scarecrows are a perfect DIY project for little hands. You don't need a sewing machine, so even your children can help. Make sure you supervise the kids but let them handle the scissors. If possible, start early on Halloween kitchen day. Once they're finished, they'll be amazed at how easy this decor project is. It's a great idea to involve your kids in the decoration process!
Halloween Kitchen Decor
Crystal balls
For a creepy, ghostly feel, use crystal balls in the shape of skulls as part of your Halloween kitchen decor. These creepy balls are inexpensive and can be bought at a dollar store. However, beware that if left out after Halloween, they might attract unwanted attention. To avoid this problem, you can buy skull-inspired crystal balls at craft stores. But be careful: these items are not entirely safe to leave out.
Halloween Kitchen Decor A silicone mold and Ekopel 2K or another epoxy are essential to make crystal balls. Popsicle sticks or a stir stick are ideal for this project. A paintbrush is also helpful when using this material. Once dry, you can paint the crystal balls with regular paint. You can purchase these materials at a craft store, hardware store or even online. But if you do not have these supplies, you can DIY crystal balls for a fun Halloween kitchen decor idea!
Halloween Kitchen Decor
Mini terrariums
Making your own terrariums is an excellent Halloween kitchen decor idea. You can use hanging globes or decorative glass bowls to house a variety of plants. The terrarium can also be decorated with a variety of accessories, including skulls and faux ravens. Terrariums have their roots in the early 19th century, when Victorian ladies mounted ferns under glass or on wrought iron stands.
Halloween Kitchen Decor A mini terrarium is the perfect size for a Halloween kitchen island, and you can decorate it in any way you choose. You can place the plants in the front and the back of the terrarium. Tip the smaller plants forward to fill the lower portion of the terrarium. Once you have completed the terrarium, it can be used as a simple decor item and as a seasonal decoration.
Halloween Kitchen Decor Mini terrariums make great centerpieces for any table. The inside scene is both spooky and child-friendly. You can easily make this centerpiece with the help of your children. You can even add a moon to emphasize the scene. Make them easy and fun! You can use them to set the theme for your next Halloween party! There are many options for Halloween kitchen decorations. You can try a simple and cheap way to decorate your kitchen.
Halloween Kitchen Decor
DIY test tubes
With Halloween fast approaching, it's time to start planning your Halloween party and Halloween kitchen decor. Test tubes are the perfect way to fill a glass or shot glass with candy for place settings or food for your food table. Not only do they look great, but they're also easy to make. You can even create a Halloween kitchen cocktail using test tubes. Here are some great ideas. These fun, easy and funky decorations will have you and your guests spooked in no time!
Halloween Kitchen Decor Start by painting the test tube with glue, then sprinkle on some magic. This can be glitter, shimmer powder, or iridescent flakes. Whatever magical things you have lying around, just make sure they look magical! You can also use a needle tool to create a small mark on the paperboard. Once the test tubes are dry, you can place them into the spice rack. Now, they're ready for the next step in your Halloween kitchen decor.
Halloween Kitchen Decor Another easy Halloween kitchen DIY is to create a spooky hand soap. This spooky DIY takes about 5 minutes to create, and is perfect to place in your bathroom during the Halloween kitchen season. You can also use paint and pipe cleaners to make face-shaped Halloween soaps. If you're too busy to paint them, try using a cutting machine to cut the faces out. Alternatively, you can simply paint the faces.

What’s your drugstore holy grail?
Drugstores: not just stores for drugs. Whether it’s Rite Aid, CVS, Duane Reade or an aisle at Target, drugstores are the spot to find great beauty & skincare without exposing your poor wallet to Sephora.
Katherine
OGX Argan Oil of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil
If beachy / messy / wild hair ever goes out of style, I am royally fucked. My hair is fine, but I have a literal metric ton of it (shout-out to my stylist for putting up with my horse mane!), and I am a sweaty, impatient person. This, of course, means that I spend very little time on my hair. A few years ago I discovered Organix Argan Oil of Morocco, and I've never looked back. I use the Extra Penetrating (heh) Oil, as well as the Weightless Healing Dry Oil. After washing my hair, I towel dry, brush through with my Wet Brush (a close runner-up for my drugstore holy grail), and then apply the Extra Penetrating Oil; I let my hair air dry and that's it! It works perfectly with my hair texture, and shines up my waves without making my hair hang like a rug around my face. If my hair is feeling extra damaged, I'll double up and spritz the Healing Dry Oil on after my hair has air-dried a bit. Maybe my hair looks like shit when it air dries, but I THINK it looks good and that's all that matters!
Carly
L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara
I first discovered this fabulous mascara about a year ago and have been obnoxiously stanning for it ever since. *Extremely Stefon voice* This mascara has everything: it is very, very black; it doesn't clump; it lengthens AND volumizes; it grabs even your smallest lashes and Gets Them Involved for a dramatic, put-together eyeball situation. Besides clumping, my biggest mascara pet peeve is a product that dries immediately, robbing me of those pivotal moments to-- for lack of a better term-- "fuck it around a bit," wiggling the brush back and forth, poking stray lashes into place, and adding volume before it's too late and things get spiky. I use the washable formula on a daily basis, but also have the waterproof for tearful occasions such as weddings, funerals, and my annual performance review. This might be the best mascara I've ever tried, and it's $10! That's a win-win-win, with the last win being leftover $$ for tequila.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Water All-In-One
Micellar Water: I love thee, but I am also very suspicious of thee.
Micellar water, as far as I can tell, is slightly soapy water that you wipe your face with but do not wash off. This makes no sense! How does it work? Should I splash with water after, just to be sure? Should I.... double micellar? Just in case?
Should I follow up with witch hazel? Sometimes I do this. Should I do the rest of my skincare routing without washing after? I don’t know! What a conundrum.
YES, I only use this after drinking and YES it doesn’t remove every speck of makeup but YES I will have a bottle of this in my medicine cabinet forever.
Jayne
L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream
I’ve been using this BB cream for over three years. Putting aside the fact that it's only $7.00-$8.00, making it a quarter of the price of many other BB creams, this product works magic, hence the name I guess. It hides imperfections, evens skin tone, moisturizes, and has vitamins C and E. It's also the perfect amount of coverage for a BB cream - not so heavy that you can't wear it underneath other products, but not so light that you can't also wear it on its own. It gives a natural finish and has good staying power throughout the day. The only negative is that it comes in just four shades, but the product itself does somewhat blend to your skin tone if you're close enough to one of the shades. n the Summer or when I'm traveling, I often wear it alone with a dusting of powder on top. I will also mix it with other tinted moisturizers or skin illuminators. In the winter, I'll wear it under my foundation, as it helps me look less like I just surfaced from beneath a gravestone after being summoned in a seance.
Alexis
Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor
I love the drugstore for makeup because honestly there is some great stuff out there. There is also some pretty rotten stuff, but on the whole competition in the American drugstore makeup market keeps quality ridiculously good and prices very very low. Things I DON’T buy at the drugstore: foundation and concealer (I find fancy options to be more foolproof and less likely to oxidize) and blush (I just haven’t found a drugstore brand with decent payoff and tend to prefer cream and liquid blush and haven’t found good drugstore versions of those).
It’s really hard to choose just one makeup drugstore product to recommend but my LATEST find has been these matte liquid lipsticks from Revlon. I’m a little late to the matte lip trend and tbh I still tend to top ‘em with a little bit of gloss or lip oil sometimes. The colors are amazing and flattering, my 2 current faves are a bright strawberry red, HD Love, and a pretty pinky nude, HD Embrace.
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream
Skincare wise, I’m a huge fan of CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. In the summer, I’m more of a body oil gal (currently a DIY mix of jojoba and sweet almond oil), but CeraVe is my winter go-to. I slather myself LITERALLY from head to toe in this stuff during the colder months of the year - I use it as a night cream for my face and as a body cream when I get out of the shower. It has saved my skin countless times, which can be finicky and sensitive especially in the winter when it gets super dry. It’s fragrance free and chock full of super high quality hydrating ingredients and is a holy grail product for a good portion of the skincare internet, where it affectionately known as “CeraVe in the tub.” Don’t believe me? Check out this super nerdy review that is the kind of shit I read for fun because I have no life.

Issue 1: Tass
How long have you had your store: I started officially selling clothes after I finished college in 2013 and moved back home to the suburban midwest, so I guess 5 years now! I was working at the local newspaper at the time but was looking for an extra way to kill time, not necessarily even to make money. I started with Poshmark and loved connecting with other people who liked similar clothes, which was actually kind of rare for where I lived. I loved being able to see people showcase their own style in the form of their own closets and let people “shop their closet”. I also became really interested in clothes trading, which I like doing with my irl friends, so the fact a lot of people were willing to trade items was also really cool to me and something I hadn’t seen before.
How would you describe your shop? I think the clothes I sell are kind of more one-off like something that would be worn as a funny statement piece - I love a bright color and bold pattern, power clashing, and anything rainbow, glittery or that can incorporate faux fur in a tasteful way. It’s pretty reflective of my midwestern lifestyle and probably the clothes I consistently have the most of are windbreakers and winter coats, the main way we can express ourselves here for half of the year or more… There are a few sticker art projects I have in my store that I started doing around 2012 out of boredom when I was still in school, the most prominent one probably being the 6 foot tall Britney Spears poster that’s completely covered in (vintage) Lisa Frank stickers but never intended to actually finish or take seriously. Over the years I used sticker collaging as a way to keep my mind off things and have it be a means to add color and vibrancy to otherwise more plain posters/art.
When I first opened my shop in 2013, I made a holographic wall out of posterboards to hang my clothes on and that was my first store display on Poshmark and Etsy and always tried to have unique ways to show my clothes ever since, and to change the look of my store at least once a year. I’ve wavered between thinking having consistent “branding” is best and thinking it’s best to change as my ideas change, and have ended up going with the latter at whatever expense that has had, resulting in my store bio now being “Hi I’m Crazy Branding” lmao. The last time I re-did my store I got a mannequin from the city off Craigslist that I painted hot pink and move around my yard or put against different backdrops/bright colored walls to model the clothes. At one point I put velcro on the back of all my stuffed animals plushies and trolls and stuck them to a white wall in my apartment I was living to use as the background. I used to love to bring around solo holographic poster boards to my friends’ houses before we went out so that we could all take pictures behind them as the backdrop, portable aesthetic is essential.
What era or year is your favorite in fashion? My favorite looks are early 90s minimalistic grunge but not too minimal - Black jeans, velvet dresses, and plain tees, all of that, but then on the flip side I love the super excessive part of those eras of fashion too, like rainbow everything and floating glitter inside plastic holographic accessories. My favorite outfit of all time is something my aunt gave me from her 80s closet, it’s a long elastic teal leopard mermaid-style skirt with a matching teal leopard flowy button down shirt, all cotton and polyester. I love outfits that are completely matching like that and have been seeing that lately in brands that I follow, so I hope that sticks.
What item of clothing in the world are you lusting after or saving up for?
One of those new robot dresses that react to your moods or whatever lmao but if I’m being more realistic there is a designer who I really love that I found on Instagram who knits beaded sweaters using like thousands of different colored beads and completely covers them. They’re works of art and I would love to have one some day and be able to support an artist too! I’m definitely always lusting after new pairs of plain black pleather platform (but not too high anymore) shoes. I love the brand Hot Lava and I guess if I'm saving up for one thing it would be their "Barbed" rainbow matching bralette/pants combo.
Favorite clothing brand/brands and why? Since I usually only buy thrift for myself these days, my favorite brands are probably just based on design only but I love Discount Universe and other sequins-covered clothes or otherwise outlandish/tacky patterns, especially if they’re owned/designed/produced by women - Wacky Wacko, I have the Tabloid Dress they made a few years ago and it’s one of my favorite of all time even though I never wear it I also LOVE everything from Big Bud Press and YardSale666 in general.
What music do you like, does it play a role in your personal style? The music I listen to most now is probably "experimental pop" and growing up I loved pop punk. Both of those have affected my style and stayed with me to this day, I still wear skinny jeans and slip on Van-style shoes most often no matter what else I’ve layered on top of it. I used to like to purposely wear edgy clothes and do my hair to provoke a reaction out of people when I was younger - my brother would pass down band shirts to me that said things like “What the F*** are you looking at?” (lol) and I would cut them off into a crop top and wear it with a super long high-waisted thrifted pink and purple plaid skirt. That was definitely my go-to outfit for like an entire summer straight. I’ve always liked clothes that makes a statement even if it’s in a literal way with words, clothes with a lot of text on them, and I really like the new wave of DIY embroidery, especially on thrifted or up cycled clothes. Band tee shirts were also just like a huge part of growing up for me, buying them at shows and collecting them and wearing them all the time. Also in my shop I have a guitar that I completely stickered/bejeweled which was one of my longest running projects that I really want to make more of. It was one of my brother's old acoustic guitars that he let me completely deck out and it perfectly combines the femme pop elements I love with an actual instrument. Music and fashion are so intertwined all the time I think, and clothes/accessories are something that always stuck out to me about singers and bands too! I love how fashion plays a role in music today too and can make or break an entire aesthetic or era.
Does living in your city/state inspire you? Where are you most creative? Yes lmao living in rural suburban Illinois actually inspires me a lot and I’m probably the most happily creative here. When I lived in the city, things were a lot more stressful so it made me work on a lot of projects to distract myself, but I eventually burned out from that pretty bad. I get inspired by midwestern people but mostly in a way that most people find cringey, I mocked it more when I was younger but now try to tastefully incorporate it into my looks. State Fair Chic is inspiring to me. My mom has a lot of handpainted and iron-on sweatshirts for different holidays that are staples of my closet. Living in the midwest and being bored definitely made me thrift more and imo makes the thrifting better, it made me always be working on craft projects, and always changing my hair and style.
What things do you love to create? I think my favorite things to create are entire rooms and looks, I like to make different aesthetics through combining colors, furniture and fabrics that all feel familiar even if it’s a little chaotic. My long term project with my bedroom was turning my walls of thrifted art (with 20-30 framed pictures) into matching colored frames that fit the whole look of the room, so I guess just really getting at the details of design. I think I’m pretty tacky so I like to stick to things that embody that and will always love stickering huge projects, painting everything plain into bright colors and incorporating anything I find thrifting or in the garbage into larger art aesthetics. My favorite thing to do is thrift and upcycle clothes, furniture, wall art, lamps, etc. anything that I see “potential” in lol.
Who are some of your favorite artists?: There are a ton of artists I follow that inspire me every day, definitely just “regular” people or like more lowkey artists. People who thrift or collect and refurbish toys are amazing to me and I love the doll community on IG. Witches or people I’ve met through astrology who are creating more spiritual art inspire me every day with their words and presentations. I also love comedians and movies, I love John Early and Kate Berlant and recently saw they collaborated with Peggy Noland and Seth Bogart of Wacky Wacko so that was iconic to me.
I collaborate a lot with my brother who has done a lot of graphic design stuff for me over the years. He makes resin toys of his own and designs t-shirts. He’s great at painting and drawing, two skills I never was good at that I really appreciate in him that he is always willing to lend a hand to me. He is two years older than me and went to school for advertising so exchanging ideas and doing projects with him is something I like to do too. He also has more of a background in music production so we recently started trying to make music together. We both love combining fashion and music!
What album do you recommend to pick up ASAP? Hayley Kiyoko - Expectations, hands down the vibe for summer

5 Dramatic Looks Guaranteed To Make Your Bathroom Instagram-Worthy
BLACK & POOLE/Houzz
There are bathroom designs, and then there are bathroom designs—innovative and impactful looks that go above and beyond any bathroom we’ve ever seen. And this week we are bringing them directly to you.
Like we always do, we scrolled through hundreds of posts on Instagram to find the most popular decor, this time with a view to the loo. And right now, “drama” seems to be the decor mantra du jour.
With dark and sumptuous wallpaper and stunning romantic extras, this week will give you more than a few inspired ideas to take your bathroom out of its pandemic phase, and into the realm of magazine-style interiors. Here are five bathroom looks that are quite simply beyond.
1. Window mirror

Is your bathroom looking a little dark and gloomy these days? Then bring in some light with a window mirror like this one from @stacyzaringoldberg.
“There is no design law written that you must have a plain mirror in your bathroom,” says Michelle Harrison-McAllister of Michelle Harrison Design. “This one mirrors the look of a window and brings a touch of the old world to your box-size restroom.”
The unexpected piece is a conversation starter that could spark your guests’ memories of past European vacations.
Get the look: Shop this Barnett metal mirror from Overstock to bring that old-world charm into your bathroom.
2. Terra-cotta everything
View this post on Instagram
I haven’t posted in almost a week because I’ve been working really hard on the snug room makeover. Hoping to show you some of what I’ve been doing over the next couple of days. As much as I’m excited for cosy nights in watching films in there, I’ll miss the garden massively over autumn/winter. Does anyone else feel like that? ☀️ ☹️ . . . . . . . . . . #bathroom #bathroomdecor #bathroominsoo #bathroomsofinstagram #terracottapaint #sumatranmelody4 #cinammonsprinkle #stencilledfloor #stencilling #bohemianvintage #colourfulinteriors #colourfulhome #bohemianbathroom #apartmenttherapy #interior4u #bathroomgoals #pinkbathroom #whitewalls #interiorismo #interiormilk #bathroomflooring #cornerofmyhome

Although pink is very much still having its moment, there’s also a new rosy hue in town—and we’re seeing it on everything, like on this door and tiling featured by @iamhayleystuart.
“Terra cotta has been around for quite some time, making it a comforting color,” says designer Amy Peltier of Peltier Interiors. “This space works well paired with the softer blush tones of the cabinet.”
Many Spanish-style homes have also embraced terra-cotta floors of late because they’re traditional but also work with modern schemes, Peltier adds. In fact, the red-brown hue was even Sherwin-Williams’ color of the year in 2019.

3. Dark ‘jungalow’ walls

Dark and dramatic bathroom goals belonging to @ferns_and_filigree. 🖤There’s not a single detail that we don’t love in this maximalist design and we think our Witch & Watchman Folia Wallpaper – Dark completes the design perfectly! Bathrooms are a great place to experiment with a little drama, and nothing gets the job right quite like this dark “jungalow” (“jungle” and “bungalow”) wallpaper featured by @ferns_and_filigree.
“Dark colors are back,” says Brenna Morgan of Brenna Morgan Interiors. “But we haven’t lost our love of botanicals, and this trend is a perfect mix of the two. Dark jungalow wallpaper can really make a statement in a small space like a powder room.”

4. Wall-mounted faucets
View this post on Instagram
When a clean bathroom looks like a great Friday night. 💙 Design: @studiomcgee Photo: @lucycall We’ve posted this before, but some things are worth repeating. Still in love with this #smcaliforniatraditional home by @studiomcgee. They used the Katie sconce by @visualcomfortco in bronze and paired it with brass plumbing + @benjaminmoore’s Polaris Blue on the cabinetry. And for anyone who has a tough time mixing metals (myself included), they’re showing us how it’s done – matching hardware to your light fixture and doing a contrasting color on your plumbing creates an effortless, layered effect that when combined with your own personal touches (baskets, accessories, towels, etc) really blends and creates a cohesive space. Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend! ✨
A post shared by M&M Lighting (@mmlighting) on Aug 21, 2020 at 4:38pm PDT
When your faucets are as flashy and artsy as these ones from @mmlighting, they deserve their own wall space.
“Wall-mounted faucets are an awesome design trend that will level up your bathroom game,” says Morgan. “Wall-mounted faucets take up less precious countertop real estate in a bathroom and add a little element of surprise.
“Faucets and fixtures are the jewelry of the bathroom, so make it count,” she adds.
Get the look: Find the perfect statement for your bathroom by shopping this collection of wall-mount faucets from Lowe’s.
5. Dresser vanities
View this post on Instagram
What is your favorite part of this bathroom from @thesassybarn? On the floor is our Fleur pattern cement tile. Prepare yourselves… this week I’m going to DIY my feelings as my parents will leave on Wednesday… their trip went by fast!! I’ve had the best time with them visiting Austin and I and am counting down the days till their next visit! Speaking of DIY- what are some fall DIYs y’all would like to see?! #bathroom #bathroomdesign #farmhousestyle #farmhousebathroom #DIY #home #homedesign #dressersink #rustic #vintagedecor #bhghome #mycountryhome #countryliving #riadtile #cementtiles #cementtile #cementtilefleurriadtile

Why have a boring vanity when you could have your sink tucked inside a gorgeous vintage-style dresser? This dresser sink from @thesassybarn is giving us all the decor feels.
“My vintage-loving heart is a big fan of dressers as sink bases,” says Morgan. “Mostly because the sky’s the limit on the configuration of the vanity, and if you find a dresser or chest of drawers that you love from a vintage store or consignment shop, a skilled tradesman can make it into a vanity for you.”
Get the look: Start scouring local antiques shops, or take a shortcut by shopping this collection of dresser sinks from Etsy.

170ish albums/EPs you should have bought in 2017.
This year has been a strange one. After a pretty desperate 2016, our bubbles remain burst, our political systems are still in shambles, the planet is slowly dying. It’s business as usual pretty much, except this time all of our heroes are sex pests (Cue a bit of guesswork as to which album has been redacted from this list).
