November Reading List #7

the long way to a small angry planet by Becky Chambers

The first book of the Wayfarers series and I'm pumped up to start a new science-fiction journey after (and in between) the Expanse. By the way I saw that a new series is coming from them so I feel like 2024 is going to be a good year regarding books and games too.

I love the fact that first this novel was self-published by a Kickstarter campaign and I also love how the author basically grew up to be a science-fiction author. To my little Astronomy and Planetary Science undergrad self with writing ambitions this is way more meaningful than just simply being inspirational.

• Recent Read: Binti by Nnedi Okorafor • . . . Nnedi Okorafor has brought some much needed diversity to space. I am very much here for all of it. I wish this story was longer and I wish we got more time with the title character but the parts we do get are wonderful. This ninety page book addresses what it is like to leave home and carry your culture, knowledge, and passions with you. Okorafor is unapologetic in her depiction of the universe in Binti and its parallels to ours. I’m definitely picking up the other books in this series. . . . Also, don’t touch other people’s hair.
