sometimes i think about how harry just straight up steals clothing throughout DE. like just takes it from drying racks or from inside some guy's house.
sometimes the clothes are covered in literal bird shit too, and ik DAMN well this mfer isn't doing laundry, homie can't even remember the alphabet.
#there is that one time he gets an old lady to clean one of the jackets but other than that there's no way his clothes aren't crusty lmao#disco elysium#harry du bois#harrier du bois

#i highly recommend to play the game with high empathy and authority#it makes the game really fun and you can see them working together quite well#especially when you talk to the cleaning lady#empathy#authority#i don't even want them to have sex I just want to tenderly hold each other in quiet understanding of who they are#and that they are one and the same#(authority and empathy are two sides of the same coin. I'd love to elaborate but that is for another post)#disco elysium#himitsu plays disco elysium

"Communism. You know, like in the world revolution?"
CLEANING LADY - "Never heard of it," the cleaning lady replies, before another coughing spell takes hold of her.
5. "Tell me about the man who lives at the end of the hallway -- Uuno de Ruyter."
CLEANING LADY - "I don't want to talk about de Ruyters," the cleaning lady mutters. She starts digging for something in her pockets.
"Why not?"
CLEANING LADY - "Addicts, all of them... And sometimes I hear them screaming." She winces.
"They don't like me cleaning behind their door, think I'm listening in on their fights."
KIM KITSURAGI - "We saw unpaid utility bills -- aren't they going to be evicted?"
CLEANING LADY - "No one likes them in this building." She shakes her head. "It's only because of the kid they haven't been thrown out."
+5 XP
"I don't like talking about those people," she looks down the hallway.
6. "What can you tell me about Cindy?"
CLEANING LADY - "The *artist*?" She scoffs. "Nothing I can do about her, I'm afraid. She ruins the walls faster than I can clean them. Still..." She leans on her broom.
"She leaves an old lady to her business. More than I can say for others..."
7. "That's all, thanks."
CLEANING LADY - She mumbles some kind of a response, then hacks something into her handkerchief.
Ok, so we need to revisit apartments #10 and #28. First, though, there's still more of the complex to break into - I mean, explore.
The sea below looks cold and winter-grey.
An old grocery list on the table. And checks.
There's some Nosaphed and 0.20 real in the... fridge?
CINDY THE SKULL - "Ooh, the piggies have learned how to saunter up staircases. I didn't think you could do that with hooves. But -- here you are."

For every single Disco Elysium character you HAVE to be able to say good and bad thing about them. If you can only say bad things about a character welllll maybe that's not so bad but if you can ONLY say good things you are NOT experiencing the character correctly. Yes all of them. Yes even Kim. No Disco Elysium character is all uwu small bean or all human monster they are both. You can always imagine a perspective that would understand the character and a perspective to hate them.
capeside Apartments Cleaning Lady is conscientious about respecting residents privacy, she doesn't capitulate easily to authority, she feels bad about her complex backstory of once letting someone into the apartments when they shouldn't have been let in. She is also classist about what residents she would like to "improve" the place. She does not have a name. Her role in the story is as a BACKUP route into a building that you don't need to enter to finish the game. She has her good and bad points. You're telling me your favourite character is always right? Your most hated character doesn't have anything possitive about them?

i wanted to look at the symbolism of the ocean in disco elysium because it features so prominently in the setting. insulinde being an isola comprised of islands, martinaise as a port town financially anchored by its ocean trade. the divisions brought by water that we see in the geography: how the canal separates the working district of martinaise from the even poorer, commerce-less village-- how the river esperance separates the worst ghettos of revachol and jamrock from the more rebuilt and financially stable districts-- how, for example, lilienne looks across the bay of revachol to the wealthy district of la delta, a poignant moment of separation between someone desperately poor and the towers of wealth built out of the ruins of revachol. we see water, and often the sea specifically, acting as a divider in various contexts.
the ocean of time and distance that separates dora and harry, that separates klaasje from oranje:
then, further into the idea of the ocean as representative of time: in various contexts i see the ocean as representing the past. memory residing under the waves, and each of us living above water-- in the present-- but often still helpless to the tides when we’re not careful. to me this is cemented by the implication that the pale is commonly theorized as an *outer ocean* (juxtaposed with harry’s introspective skill, inland empire!!): the pale is the past, and if the pale is seen as an outer ocean, then right there is a tangible connection between the two. memory and the past as an ocean, dangerous if you don’t respect its power, but ultimately navigable. there is frequent reference made to the fact that the bombed ruins of martinaise are sinking or lost into the ocean, lost to the past, now only memory.
and harry, who is living in the past and being consumed by nostalgia like a rot, drives his car into the ocean. harry’s badge, which is conflated with his identity in the aftermath of his amnesia, was underwater before he pulled it from the car: until he got it, his entire identity was lost with his memory in the past. klaasje’s documents, too, presumed lost to the ocean, a loss of who she was or claimed to be (until you meet the phasmid). lilienne’s husband was lost to the waves, and in the same lines she’ll dismiss your concerns-- he’s in the past now, she’s really not too upset. the cleaning lady, abandoned by the world, who has only her own memories for company in her sea-beaten room. in the context of ruby’s near-suicide in the shack, how inland specifies how the “waves had calmed” as she put the gun away: ruby distancing herself from the past that she thinks is chasing her to form a better plan. the working-class husband, who, had his corpse fallen through the boardwalk into the ocean, would have been lost to the past, living only in the memory of billie and their daughters.
for me, the final dream had some of the heaviest but most subtle inclusions of the ocean symbolism. it’s brought on by looking into the ocean around the seafort and takes place under the ocean somewhere. even before the dream, dora is alluded to in the context of the sea. she moved across the ocean and now, to him, she’s lost under it. she’s trapped in his memory.
where we see things half-submerged or partially oceanic, we see a bridge between the past and the present being represented. something partially lost to the past but still with a foot in the here and now. harry’s half-sunken car, in part a representation of his career: part of his past, yes, but still very much in his present. one of the primary spiritual practices we hear of is the volta do mar: originally a palefarer’s practice to keep them grounded in an onslaught by the past, and its meaning is *return from the sea*. when harry tries to turn back time, he wants to go back to a time when the sun had not yet sunk into the sea-- when the light in his life didn’t reside solely in the past.
also in this context, something that really struck me was how harry will sometimes think of himself in the context of the sea. first is the sea monster thought, brought about by the broken plaza: him as a creature submerged in the past, terrorizing the present. and seafaring brought up to represent a kind of compromise between living in the present and acknowledging the draw of nostalgia. even joyce in her limited knowledge of harry compares him to a “half-submerged ruin”. and when harry is prompted into introspection by the dros predicament, inland empire becomes the *inland sea*.
and i really want to make a final, individual point of this. the whirling-in-rags music is sea power’s song “fire escape in the sea”. there is an explicit reference made to the song by shivers as well, and i think the choice of this song is very intentional. the whirling-in-rags is where harry forgot his whole life, the whole world, and it’s where he wakes up and begins to piece it all back together. the whirling-in-rags is harry’s fire escape in the sea. his bridge between his past and his present, his last-ditch attempt at escape from the tortures of his subconscious.
(this is by no means exhaustive, there are a lot of other moments where the sea comes in, but i included the moments that spoke to me most. you’re welcome to add your own!)
#disco elysium#disco elysium meta#gen meta#hdb meta#kiwipost#i'm gonna see if i can go on mobile and edit the alt text in#if not i may rb with dialogue descriptions#anyway yeah. maybe this is nothing but it means something to ME. to me.#joyce and lilienne are the two people we see with boats#coincidentally the two who seem to have made peace with the past that led them here to this point in their lives.#also on the significance of it being a dockworkers' union in particular that we deal with.#it doesn't mean nothing. i swear there's something here#i also want to think about what it means for harry to be compared to several types of bird#in a context where the ocean represents the past#he's got the name of a hawk. his heraldic bird could be a cockatoo but also he can be compared to a seagull.#he destroys the stuffed skua. his old partner was jean-heron.#much to consider there.#will need to ruminate on that for a while.

I did have my first cigarette yesterday by the way. I’m a creature of habit and my habit is a large dose of THC to the gut in the evening/late afternoon. But obviously there is no weed option for Disco Elysium, with perhaps the joke being that speed is its closest equivalence. But there is an option for Astra Cigarettes.
Sad and poetic journal entry below. All must know of my bleeding heart!
I bought Marlboros. That’s what my grandfather smoked/smokes. It’s the smell I like.
When at the gas station, at five-seventeen AM, I asked for a pack. The lady said talls or shorts. But I didn’t know what that meant. And it didn’t matter. I knew I was not going to like them. I told her this. She glared, likely used to angrier customers, and demanded I tell her which
Talls.
Obviously next up was finding a place to smoke them. I choose a pier in a town I’d never been too, circling the Sound in my Leaf. It’s more environmentally friendly to kill yourself. But barring that, if you must smoke, cigarettes aren’t part plastic and part electronic. So you, or I should say the madwoman first person, I bought cigarettes to smoke.
The pier was perfect. Dawn and a fleeing tide. Feels good to stand under and know something is moving, even though it’s not you. Nice to see the thrum of life rather than imagine it.
The cigarette was bad. Tasted bad and had no noticeable effects besides a headache and nausea. What else could be expected? I am not a smoker, a fact I’ve known for years, and do not believe in the practice. Why would I? As a creature of habit?
I use a cap of sea water to douse it and throw it away. My jacket smells like cigerette. My fingers smell like the cigerette. It is unpleasant.
I will probably do it again. At a different pier. On a different dawn. Such is life. There is no point to guarding my health in such a way right now.
And that is a strange feeling. I have behaved in a somewhat healthy way for years. It is a laborious thing to live repressed and yet I understood it as my duty to society, to the world, and to God, to some extent. But the truth is only two things will happen from here: It will stay the same. Or it will get worse.
Since both are miserable options and I will always be capable of making life miserable, I’ve thrown it all ti the wind. If my peers smoke and do a line of cocaine, so shall I. If my peers enjoy isolation and their social media, so shall I! Mother, in the same vein of the apple and tree, if my peer all jump off a bridge: So Shall I!
*sigh*
No. I shan’t. I shall be with the clean up crew, crying and digging corpses out from under river rocks. And I will have a cigarette on the bridge when the work is done.

More Disco Elysium (definitely spoilers):
I have, at this point, completed one in-game day.
So, some interesting shit, both on its own and when considered in combination: 1) talking to the dead body. Did not expect that. I read this more of an abstraction—Harry (apparently) talking to himself, or whatever it is that’s in his head. 2) Only got to the title card when I opened the ledger. I honestly thought I’d died for a second and the game had restarted---we went back to that “reptilian brain/limbic system” conversation space from the opening, what happens when Harry passes out, I guess. But like, okay. What that basically confirms for me is something I already sort of suspected; the murder is, to at least some degree, incidental to whatever the actual story is here. The real story is whatever’s going on with Harry.
Which, okay, hold on. Given the sort of ambiguous ontology re: the real world that I was talking about last time, makes me wonder…This is a dream, isn’t it? Or something like that. Something not quite “real,” in the traditional sense. So the two stories are kind of one story—all the shit going on in this world re: racism/labor/disco somehow reflects the more personal story. Harry did make an explicit connection between himself and the body (or the body did, I’m not sure, but like… that’s what I mean). I dunno. I’m spitballing here, maybe they aren’t going that far with it, but this line of thinking is encouraging me to try and find parallels/connections in a way I wasn’t before, so I’m rollin’ it around in the ol’ noggin’ for the moment (you might say I have it equipped to one of my thought slots…)
(I have some more “what if, though” ideas that spin out from that, but they’re wild speculation still at this point.)
But more in-world mystery stuff.. the fuck was Call Me Mañana talking about when he said “Thank him [Cuno] for showing me the *way.*” What way? What does that mean? It’s an odd thing to say. It didn’t let me ask about that, but like… There is a part of me that thinks maybe Cuno is just building himself up, just messing with me. But then this comes along. It reenforces the feeling that that kid has some SHIT up his sleeve. Also, what’s CMM’s deal? Why did Joyce hear about the lynching from HIM? He says he doesn’t work in a gatekeeping capacity, but like… what capacity DOES he work in?
Got into the apartments, tracking down the smoking fellow. Apparently I have to come back tomorrow? (Still on the first day.) But who is his “friend?” Also, the dead guy has stars tattooed all over him and now there’s an astrologer with a padlocked door? Hm. Also Either 1) the cleaning lady is lying about Apt 10, or… something else is happening. Something, perhaps not dissimilar from Harry speaking to voices? Or it’s squatters, I guess. Either way, not sure what to do with that information yet, but noted.
Cindy’s pretty rad. At least, based on that first interaction. Also lol @ “the subject’s evident hostility to her interviewer” in the profile of C.S. in the communist magazine, cos yeah, I can see that. So she’s not a fan of pigs or communists… and she talks about bringing a little chaos to town… hm. The more I think about that, the more I’m getting like the Spock-eyebrow about it.
Did Cuonoesse just quote Snoop Dogg at me?
Bird’s Nest Roy said something about “The Man from Hjelmdall” being “an ontological necessity.” The story has made it so that he exists. Like, I feel like he’s telling me something about the nature of this world, you know?
OH MY GOD I FINALLY MADE THE STUPID JUMP DOWN TO THE COAT. Just had to take 2 points in Savoir Faire, find new pants and a sweaty tanktop, and take off my shoes. Yeesh. Good, though. I didn’t wanna have to deal with Measurehead anymore. But, of course, by the time I got there, it was after 22:00.
So I’m talking to the Bloated Corpse of a Drunk, and ask him what Elysium is, because… I would like to know that. I’m trying to make sense of his answer. But he also says “You were just talking to yourself. That’s all you ever do. Even in your dreams. And the act is wearing thin, the spots of the disco ball fade around you.” Which like, comes back to the whole “this whole thing is a dream, or maybe a dying mind unraveling its trauma, Mulholland Drive style, or something” hypothesis. (Why did the car tell me it’s “at the bottom of the sea?”) But what does it mean that four point six billion people—and you failed every one of them?” Is that hyperbole or…?
Annnnd I wound up my play session by accidentally agreeing to find some speed, but… I mean, who hasn’t accidentally agreed to find and ingest some powerful drugs, amirite?

Logic, drama, and pain threshold!! 👀
(From this disco elysium ask game!)
I’ll do the latter two to save logic for another ask, thank u for these!! 😳
drama: who would *you* be in elysium?
OOOH this one is very very fun, let’s see…
I think Harry and Kim would find me down at the capeside apartments as some sort of quiet hermit none of the other tennants really knows much about. I answer the door only after the right series of knocks, as a sort of egg head adjacent mini game. Once you come in you only really see my head model through a pile of blankets, sitting at a desk facing the window. The questions you can ask me are all about the other tenants and my observations on them - not dissimilar to what you can ask the cleaning lady though I’ll give you more of a run down of their interpersonal dynamics. The only thing you get to know about me is that I draw all day, and if you follow the right dialogue tree to befriend me I’ll draw a picture of your choice for free. If you’re not very nice to me I’ll still draw the picture but I will charge an asshole rate for it.
pain threshold: which part emotionally devastated you the most?
There are a lot of scenes in general that emotionally destroyed me but if I had to choose, finding out about Cuno’s family situation and his plans to run away with C when times get though is probably highest on the list. Those kids care about each other so much. And nobody else cares about them. They’re just kids. I love them and their potty mouths.

The things that I still love #9
Disco Elysium
Videogame focused on the narrative with mechanics of a tabletop role playing game. I'm going through my second play and I'm finding new things whenever I go. My main objective this time is to recover my gun.
You can play it on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox... I've played it in PC and the controls have been made for a mouse and a keyboard, so I would recommend PC.
What is it about?
You wake up in a hotel room. Everything points to a party night with lots of alcohol running through your veins, but you don't remember a thing, not even your name.
After leaving your room, you discover tha you are a policeman. Supposedly, you were sent to Martinesse to solve a murder.
Try to do your best to recover your memories and solve the case, or not. After all, it is your decision.
Reasons I like it
You are constantly, politically interrogated. They want to know your political affiliations and they are going to know them.
Everything you do has consequences. It can give you buffs or debuffs to your rolls.
Your abilities talk to you. None of them are funny even though they think they are. That's the funny part if you get me.
You can go wherever you want and investigate whatever you want.
You can try to be a good police man, a corrupted policeman, a crazy policeman or whatever in between.
Kim Kitsuragi is your best friend. If it isn't, reflect on your actions.
Lena is the loveliest old lady I've ever met. She deserves the world.
The old lady that let's you stay at her cottage for free, she also deserves the world. She even cleans a jacket for you!

Ten Characters, Ten Fandoms, Ten (haha no) Tags
more tag games! I was tagged by @prince-of-elsinore forever ago and just got around to it. thanks elsi!
1. gerri kellman, succession
stone cold bitch, smartest person in the room, crazy hot lady, probably the single most entertaining character for me to watch in the whole show. what can i say, she's just neat.
2. tim gutterson, justified
he don't miss MY HEART! deadpan, competent, and secretly a disaster. what more to want in a character. i love this boi, not one boring second on the screen.
3. harry du bois, disco elysium
no gifs for this one, but there's something wonderful about a character who's both been wrecked by life and poor choices to the point he completely lost sight of meaning or purpose AND is put in a clean slate position when he can experience the world and very intense events around him with childlike wonder. the way i played him was an (un)healthy combo of falling into old patterns and choosing to turn to light and open himself to it whenever he can, and he turned out to be an extremely cathartic vessel in this story and in my own processing.
4. charlie kelly, it's always sunny in philadelphia
my favourite rat boy. i appreciated how despite being the pinnacle of insanity he is also one who delivered most of the poignant, truly emotional points in the whole show for me. probably my favourite actor/part combo too. gj both charlies
5. casca, berserk
if we take the pre-eclipse arcs, she is actually one of my favourite women to be written by a man. a surprisingly deep figure that swerves away from cliches every time she approaches them, making choices when nobody expects her to choose for herself. "nobody lies their way into a body with this many scars," indeed.
6. jocelyn carter, person of interest
the counterweight of mundane in an otherwise very not mundane setting, a display of being a human with boundaries and restricted possibilities among people who move and operate on an entirely different plane, an overall bulldozer of human perseverance in the face of something incomprehensible. she's an all around good egg.
7. misato katsuragi, neon genesis evangelion
[claps misato on the back] this girl can fit so much trauma in her. her unique place in the story of cracking facades all around resonated most with me, layers and layers revealed and stripped off her persona to the point where there's a very real, struggling and lost core left that has to step up and take responsibility or perish. even as everything falls apart around her, she commits to moving further and further, and i loved watching it.
8. david ward, i am in eskew
not much of a character at all, but a magnificent device to explore the feelings of total alienation, detachment and otherness both through his place in reality and his place in unreality. he doesn't fit in either but he makes important choices in the face of the latter, patching up holes in himself even if he can't ever get whole again. a kind of alice in wonderland but horror experience.
9. francis crozier, the terror
very high on my list of extremely flawed characters you come to love not because they get rid of the flaws but because they learn to shed them in the face of harrowing experiences to uplift and help others. does not help at all that he's portrayed by king jarred harris who embodies this development perfectly. a++
10. sidney freedman, m*a*s*h
i forced myself to not cheat by picking hawkeye, but then it was no competition because sidney is by far the rarest kind of character i get to see. like how often do you get a psychiatrist/therapist on screen that doesn't cringe you out and oddly resonates with how you wish to see healing and help represented, all that despite being from a 50 year old show and using methods of its time? there's so little stigma or distance to be found around sidney, and so much acceptance and belief in people he tries to help. i want to carry this with me in my work if my becoming a therapist plan pans out.
i am Not Sure anyone in my circle escaped this, but in case someone did, i would love to see @blueniverse42's, @thegoodthebadandtheart's, @andreydaddanos's and @harpernovakaine lists!

PEACOCKS!?!?!? HOLY SHIT- (side note but have you ever heard one of them? They're so loud!! There's someone down the road from where I live who owns a small flock of them and they wander around up and down the highway. They walked into the parking lot of a local barbecue joint My family was eating at one evening and we all gawked at them from the safety of our car. My parent said that it sounds like they're screaming for help.) Peacocks being symbols of beauty, protection, new beginnings, power, divinity... (at least from my brief Google search)
The radio clock reminds me for some reason of the first couple of seasons? ...wait. i know why. It's the logo. I'm thinking of the god damn logo.
It's also reminding me of the pocket watch from Fullmetal Alchemist. It serves as a reminder after all. I'm guessing 11:45 is the time that Ben was found/announced dead? Damn. Damn Juno that's fucked up. That's heavy and fucked up.
Awwww his silly ones are cute. And his self harm strikes a chord with me. Its... deeply personal. I understand. Juno carries so much baggage in this universe, he feels so heavy to me. Smth smth- disco elysium "I just want to get worse" or other. I hope the best for Juno ofc but just. Damn. Damn...
Smth about Juno always knowing the exact location where he can see his brother again, and Benzaiten has a promise that Juno will be back again sometime soon.
A LANTERN ON HIS STERNUM YO THATS SICK AS FUCK I FUCKING DIG IT
The way my eyes popped out and my lashes fluttered reading "ahem, other places" LMFAOOOO
"Don't let him hit you" this sign can't stop me because I can't read! *proceeds to get Juno Steel to punch me in a "fuck around and find out" type of manner* What happens?
Rita being a mechanical doll with tattoos and piercings is immensely adorable. There's smth or other there that I can't quite explain or put my finger on about actual dolls (like Barbie) being clean plastic with no piercings, versus Rita is machinery and technology, a walking talking computer, a mechanical doll with visible circuits and animated tattoos and neon glowy jewelry. (I've got 3 pairs of earrings that remind me of Rita: simple plastic daisies, glow in the dark translucent rubber duckies, and dangly dinosaurs linked together in a chain. Idk they all speak to me as "RITA!")
Rita's age will forever remain a mystery to all. A Rita never reveals her secrets ;) AND OH OH OH THE PLATE ON HER CHEST AND ABDOMEN IS GOOD SO GOOD!!! very stimming. Could get lost staring at her chest for hours. ("My eyes are up here" kinda moment as I watch the blues and greens swirl around)
Where did Peter get the creds from for his tattoos?
"Breeding like rats" kekekek- I mean. He ain't wrong. Invasive species of invasive species over here lol.
Have I mentioned that Peter's so pretty? Bc wowowowo he's so pretty. I love it when antler or horned characters have things decorating their antlers/horns. It's so personal. It's like saying "these are important to me, I cherish them, I value them" AND THEN OFC JUNO THINKS ABOUT HACKING THEM OFF AAUUUGHHHHHH
A lot of this universe I'm just now realizing is about perception. And isn't that what monsters are all about? Perception. What makes a monster a monster, if not how they're perceived. The Warden percieved as a face of authority. Lady Luck pulling on the face of Fate. Peter wearing his human skin to blend in. There's dots to be drawn here to this and Monster's Reflection, I'm a little too tired to be making them tho atm.
And oooooo! "Fate is very very cruel" parallels to the "big mean world" quotes from canon
Okokok, thank you for explaining what being blessed means!
MICK!!! I wanna sob I love him so much. Smth about that mental image you put in my brain of him looking down/looking back at his life and questioning it. He's such a nervous yet cheery and optimistic person in canon that having him be as thoughtful and reflective in your au is so- depressing(!?) to me. Its like the universe loves him so it made him its special little guy, but the whispers are like the school yard bullies or smth, "freak freak freak unnatural freak". Idk- Micks situation to me speaks levels. It catches my attention.
M'tendere to the Ruby7 is like me to my cat. "Are you sad? Are you hungry? Are you mad at me? What are you thinking about? Do you ever worry about your future? Do you miss your mother? Do you remember having one?" Meow. "Very insightful."
I love love love love the idea that the supernatural are manifestations of fear and beliefs. Adds more fuel to the fire that this universe is based on perception. If you fear something, if you believe in something, you're giving it the means to exist. You're giving it power.
Inside of me exist a Juno Steel Warrior Cats-esq au where he is just a grumpy old tomcat. Just a disgruntled thing that doesn't like being picked up and makes a fuss but instantly purrs when Rita scratches behind his ear. (Will I ever divulge or explore this more? Probably not!)
SMALL FRY!!! I blame my newfound obsession for Small Fry on Kit (kitsuna21), the 36Q au uses Small Fry in place of a duck/Henry and in writing Juno's interactions with her I've grown very attached. Smth smth- old patreon supporter named "This is my Contribution to Small Fry's College Fund" (I had to REALLY dig to find my old post about the names of the patreon supporters, my god it's been a while)
Other Questions: hypothetically, if Juno were to see the Warden, what would it's appearance be? (Also it's just now striking me that for Ben to perceive the Warden as Juno dressed as a cop and that's Ben's authority- y'ouch. Ouch. Ouch. It hurts. It hurts on so many levels.) What kind of person/people be out here giving all sorts of beings magical tattoos? What was Peter's latest heist like? Grims Mask equivalent or something else?
Hey! So, uh, I have some more stuff for the fae-hunter jupeter au, if you'd like to hear it? Regarding some more about the background and things and the other characters and also some intrusive thoughts Juno has regarding the cannibalism?
Oh fuck yeah babey lay it on me. This is the best Steel Twin Birthday Present and no other holiday or event going on irl I could've woken up to ever! And also does it mean anything if I say I have more thoughts on my monster hunter au bc I have a lot of new thoughts about it
#happy new year!!#hope its filled with good fortune. best wishes.#spooky penumbra au#private eye's keys go jingle jangle

Fuck it. Let's steal more shit from Cuno's dad.
REGULAR BLACK JEANS
+1 Composure: A normal day for a normal guy
Thank god for black jeans. Everyone looks good in black jeans. Combine it with your favourite book t-shirt and a yellow plastic bag to channel that laidback 'trashbin raccoon meets a cool professor' vibe. Or do whatever you want -- it's just a pair of black jeans after all.
Finally, some good clothes. I equip these.
I also take 1.10 real.
Here there's a door that leads to the Smoker's balcony.
The breaker box is full of cigarette butts and electric wires.
0.15 real...
Just a door. Nothing for you here right now.
Someone's growing rosemary, thyme -- and a cactus.
#28 -- A door to be remembered.
This is the door to apartment #29.
This is the door to apartment #30.
Equipping the prybar allows us to open this box. There's 0.75 real inside.
Someone has drawn a five-pointed star on the wall.
ENCYCLOPEDIA - That isn't *just* a five-pointed star -- it's an inverted white pentagram cradled in a wreath of antlers. The iconography of communism, in other words.
Inspect the symbol closer.
[Disregard thought.]
ENCYCLOPEDIA - The star-and-antlers was developed in the sixth decade of the last century and quickly adopted by Mazov and the communards during the Revolution...
Even today, half a century after, the star-and-antlers retains the ability to evoke hope, disappointment, and fear in equal measure.
Why is the star upside down?
What's the deal with the antlers?
Why white?
What does it evoke in me?
[Finish thought.]
ENCYCLOPEDIA - To symbolize the toppling of the old order.
Also, some social democrats were already using it.
2. What's the deal with the antlers?
ENCYCLOPEDIA - The wreath of antlers represents a natural crown. It was about building a society that could exist in accord with the natural world -- and at the same time above it.
3. Why white?
ENCYCLOPEDIA - Because white is the colour of peace.
4. What does it evoke in me? [Finish thought.]
ENCYCLOPEDIA - Gone. Gone is the glory. Of hope, only the scribblings of impoverished students remain. In dirty hallways...

PADLOCKED DOOR - This door has been closed with a padlock. A chalk-drawn number on the board says #11.
Knock.
Examine the padlock.
[Leave.]
PADLOCKED DOOR - No reply.
2. Examine the padlock.
PADLOCKED DOOR - It's a solid lump of metal, but the shackle is deeply corroded -- a solid pair of chaincutters would make short work of it.
INTERFACING [Easy: Success] - Better whip out those cutters... you won't get very far otherwise.
3. [Interfacing - Medium 10] Use the chaincutters to cut through the padlock.
May as well keep breaking into apartments. One of these has to belong to the smoker. (Also, I'm pretty sure this is the only way to get access to this one.)
INTERFACING [Medium: Failure] - What are you doing? You're trying to cut the body of the lock with the chaincutters and it's really not working.
KIM KITSURAGI - "I believe it's the *shackle* you mean to cut, detective." The lieutenant points to the corroded loop with a gloved finger.
-1 Morale
EMPATHY [Medium: Success] - He's just trying to help, don't take it... bad. Relax.
"Don't you think that's what I'm *trying* to do?"
"These chaincutters are broken, Kim."
KIM KITSURAGI - "Perhaps you should give it another go?"
+1 Kim pointed out the shackle.
INTERFACING [Medium: Success] - The shackle snaps like a twig and the lock falls to the floor with a little thud. It should be possible to enter now...
KIM KITSURAGI - "After you, detective."
A flamboyant poster of a white star. Real lithography.
Photos of revolutionaries posing with guns.
Books of 'critical theory' on the monstrosities of capital, and such.
Revolutionaries *love* to pose with their guns.
In the chest is a jacket and a single bullet.
SAZAMIRIZIAN LOUNGE JACKET
+1 Conceptualization: Summer plans
A classic white summer jacket, loved both by the Sazamirizian Commission Party and the accompanying subtropical drug traffickers. it fits you well -- regardless of your political ambitions.
This'll look great with our black jeans. Also, it gives us a useful stat bonus.
BUST OF KRAZ MAZOV - A plaster cast bust depicts a middle-aged man with impressive sideburns. The name on the plinth reads 'Kras Mazov'.
"Why does this tenant have a bust of Kraz Mazov in their bedroom?"
"Kim, who is this Kraz Mazov?"
KIM KITSURAGI - "The white star... the photos on the wall... I think we have broken into the apartment of a young communard." He looks around, before mumbling to himself: "How fitting."
+5 XP
2. "Kim, who is this Kras Mazov?"
KIM KITSURAGI - "He's known as the father of scientific communism, also known as Mazovianism. His theories about economic history greatly influenced -- some would even say *sparked* -- the Antecentennial Revolution."
2. "Father Mazov, the hero of the working class!" (Salute the statue.)
KIM KITSURAGI - "Whoever lives here definitely shares your enthusiasm." He leans closer to inspect the photos of revolutionaries on the wall.
"There aren't many communists around -- not after the Revolution. Some youths still keep the ideology going, it seems."
3. [Leave.]
Nothing else here.
There's a postcard in this box.
POSTCARD "BOOGIE STREET '46"
This crumpled up postcard depicts an open air market in Boogie Street -- 5 years ago. A vendor smiles as dead roosters line his stalls -- hung by their feet from canopy. Red blood flows onto the muddy street, blurry shadows of people pass.
LOCKED DOOR - You hear someone walking around inside, rearranging the furniture. The number on the panel says #10.
Knock.
[Leave.]
LOCKED DOOR - The walking stops abruptly, but no one comes to the door.
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] - You can feel tension on the other side.
Knock again.
LOCKED DOOR - This time the steps come closer. "Who is this?" demands a female voice, wary and tense.
"This is the police. Open up."
LOCKED DOOR - "Do I *have to* open the door?" You hear the clacking of heels again, as the other side walks right up to the door. Her tone is now getting a defensive edge...
"Do you have a warrant? I'm not obligated to open the door if you don't have a warrant."
KIM KITSURAGI - "Let's go," the lieutenant says, "we don't have a reason to get inside that apartment."
2. [Leave.]
The door #9 is locked.
There's also 0.25 real in a box here.
Apt #8, their mailbox is overflowing.
The graffito says: "A firing squad for the rich."
A note reads "Foreclosed by Martinaise Realty Associates."
CLEANING LADY - "Give me a moment." An elderly woman is leaning on her broom, her knuckles white as bone. She seems to be having difficulty breathing.
"The cold never does any good for my bronchitis..." She sneezes into a dirty handkerchief.
"Are you alright? Should I call a doctor?"
"This won't take long, I only have a few questions."
Let's do it later... [Leave.]
CLEANING LADY - "I'm fine, fine, don't you worry about me!" She starts coughing, red spots appearing on her cheeks.
EMPATHY [Medium: Success] - You're still worried. It's very worrying.
CLEANING LADY - "Now, what do you want from me, policeman?"
"Who are you?"
"I am looking for Martin Martinaise."
"I have a few questions about those apartments..."
"Thanks, I'm off." [Leave.]
CLEANING LADY - "I'm no one, just an old woman who cleans these hallways."
"Do you live here?"
CLEANING LADY - "If you can call it living..." She spits on the floor, before wiping it off with a broom. "I have a little room upstairs, right next to the coal room."
"It's barely bigger than a closet, but I don't complain, no…" She juts out her chin, eyes shining. "I have my bed and my aching bones to keep me company and that's all I need from this world."
2. "I am looking for Martin Martinaise."
CLEANING LADY - "Oh, you'll find plenty of Martins here, don't you worry!" She smiles a gap toothed smile when she hears you mention the name.
"What do you mean? I wasn't joking."
"No, you don't understand. I'm looking for a real person named Martin Martinaise. He told me he's Martin Martinaise."
CLEANING LADY - "Pea-brain, someone played a trick on you. Martin Martinaise is a name for *anyone* from Martinaise. Like Jim Jamrock or Raoul Revachol."
+5 XP
RHETORIC [Medium: Failure] - Oops... you really didn't get the joke there.
KIM KITSURAGI - "I thought it was obvious..." He stops before he offends you. "Anyway, officer. We *don't* have the witness' name."
2. "How about a young male in his mid-twenties, dark hair, skinny build? A smoker on the balcony. Know where he lives?"
CLEANING LADY - "Yes-yes. I know who you mean. The scrawny boy who's always smoking like the devil, right?" She looks at the other end of the hallway.
"What's he in trouble for?"
