She always smells like either Miss Dior, or Chanel, or Valentino, or LoveShackFancy, something sweet and expensive.

CHRISTIAN DIOR FALL/WINTER 2004 COUTURE

Vienna,Istanbul back from a trip in Central Europe, John Galliano proposes his very free vision for a collection that mixes romantic 19t-century references, resuscitating Empress Elisabeth Sisi of Austria, the glamour of 1950s pin-ups and Zsa Zsa Gabor, stated the Dior Fall Winter 2004 Haute Couture Collection.

Imagine a stately parade of Austrian and Hungarian princesses competing with one another for precedence in outrageously ornate corseted gowns, their crowns slightly askew. Tottering under the weight of pounds of elaborate fabric, skirt flounces the width of the runway, bank vaults of jewelry, and 6 inch platforms, Christian Dior's models pulled off a spectacle that held the audience breathless in case someone fell. So vast and encased were the frocks that at one point, Karolina Kurkova actually got stuck in the exit and had to be manhandled off.

"I went on a research trip to Vienna, and then got to looking at Egon Schiele, and Empress Sisi, and Russia!" was John Galliano's explanation. Strangely, in spite of the mind blowing succession of hobbled, hourglass silhouettes, blown up with massive outcrops of Edwardian swags and drapes and gigantic fur trimmed opera coats, this was a pared-down Dior Couture in several senses. Galliano ditched the Leigh Bowery meets kabuki makeup in favor of powdered faces, and the dresses, for all their rich embroidery, crystal chunks, and hand-painted cherubs and birds, gave a new sense of the body beneath.

In that way, it was easier to make the imaginative leap from runway to real event (perhaps one of those royal weddings that have enthralled Europe this summer?) than was usual in previous Dior Couture extravaganzas. This show also made a heady, sensuous display of color, brick red, emerald, celadon, boie de rose, and more-and an opulent celebration of couture-crafted textures, often enhanced to look as if the girls were actually wearing the gilded upholstery and painted ceilings of an imperial palace. On the other hand, it was also essentially a show of one queenly message, repeated 28 times. And that, for Galliano, displayed an odd lack of variety.

For his most stately collection yet, the designer 'put on a regal display of mermaid silhouetted robes accessorised with crowns, orbs, diamonds and long white gloves that made humble subjects of his A-list audience, Vogue reported.

The most luxurious materials were used: silks, brocades, moires, taffeta and velvets, trimmed with sable, ermine and fox, adorned with peacock feathers and delicately embroidered or hand-painted with designs reminiscent of 18th-century motifs inspired by Sevres porcelain and Faberge eggs.

Trompe-loil effects such as flesh - colored bustiers also peppered the collection, while gravity-defying pleats and gathers on dramatic evening gowns showcased the skills of Dior's Haute Couture Atelier.

Fragrance ask for Serena Campbell 😁

I have a feeling that this is going to be a long one because I have a lot of opinions™ Therefore I'm going to link to some of the fragrance notes instead of giving lengthy descriptions. Also a slight disclaimer: I haven't smelled every single one of the fragrances I'm about to mention, but I do know most of them.

So... we know from canon that Serena loves Dior, right? Except, I really have a hard time imagining Serena wearing something like J'adore or Miss Dior or Dior Addict (and their respective flankers). The first one is too subtle and the others are too girly/sweet in my opinion. Hypnotic Poison might be a slightly better match for her but unfortunately I'm super biased against this one because it gives me a headache 😬😄 Also, still kind of too mainstream for Serena. So if we're talking about mainstream Dior fragrances, the one that's left is the original Dior Poison. With its oriental/spicy/sweet profile it kind of matches my headcanon for how Serena might smell. I can definitely see her trying this one as a young woman (even though it was a bit too mature for her back then, but maybe her mother owned it as well) and subsequently choosing Dior as "her" brand.bAlas, in my opinion this choice is still kind of too mainstream, too cheap, not exclusive enough.

Luckily, Dior also has a more exclusive/slightly more niche line, and the ones that kind of give me Serena vibes based on the notes are Ambre Nuit and Oud Ispahan (I even used the latter in a character collage once).

However, fuck canon! Maybe it is because I'm not a fan of Dior in general, but I feel like Guerlain might be a better match for Serena overall. I think Shalimar kind of fits her better than any of the mainstream Dior ones and it's an absolute classic as well (even though personally I'm not super fond of that one either lol). Venturing into more exclusive territory, Samsara or Mon Précieux Nectar could also fit, or maybe even Spriteuse Double Vanille.

If we want to leave the Designer Houses altogether and look into proper Niche Houses, I definitely think she'd still choose a French one, given how much she loves Paris, and I picture Serena opting for something quite exclusive with a low(er) chance of encountering other women who wear the same perfume her, because it makes her feel special. For Example, Maison Francis Kurkdjian might be a bit too mainstream at this point for her liking. I think bdk Perfumes might be for her, especially Nuit de Sable and Gris Charnel (the only fragrance in this entire list that I can honestly say I actually like love)

fern or ann/anne (both of these are inspired by a book i read in middle school called where the red fern grows, thats a book about dogs again but i dont know a lot of books about ginger cats)

not the best with names but if youre looking for suggestions but for your punnet square au (a very cool idea btw) here's some if you want. emerucury: ash, slate, fidda (so, it may not be the best practice but rwby does so why not but google says this word means sliver in arabic) or something related to a gem/mineral (according to some quick research these can come in different colors) like spinel, jasper, or cole (coming from colemanite).

for blacksun something like begonia, petunia, or poppy flower related (im more so thinking of the yellow variants of these flowers). theres also jet. i tried to think of a name maybe more related to sun but i couldn't think of anything thing, maybe luna i think thatd be cute.

for winter/marrow child maybe ruddy? for rosegarden olive, i just think its really cute. for something more masculine something like copper or auburn (okay i know theres a team auburn already but i think its fine). for nora/oscar...maybe aidan, kai (both relating to fire), faro, helen, or ellen (those are related to light)

Port de Tanger, 21 heures. À peine sortie, et me voilà embaumée de l’odeur créée par le mélange de toute sorte de parfums : des parfums chers, et des parfums voulant imiter ces derniers. Les porteurs de ces parfums sont des centaines et se mélangent dans les rues éclairées par les petits ronds de lumières disposés le long des rues. Ils se déplacent en groupe: des familles avec des enfants qui arborent leur plus belles tenues, des bandes de garçons qui regardent des bandes de filles. Tout le monde est sur son trente-et-un. Les filles sont maquillées et beaucoup portent des talons, les garçons sortent leurs plus beaux jeans. Rare sont les vêtements où ne figurent pas de larges logos de marques: Dior, Balmain, Givenchy, Off-White…sûrement achetés au souk plus tôt dans la journée.

Entre les groupes se faufilent des enfants essayant de vendre tout ce qu’ils ont sous la main: des roses, des ballons, des paquets de mouchoirs… Aux coins sont installés des commerçants proposant un plus large éventail de produits: graines grillées, bonbons, crèmes glacées…Le tout est rythmé par la cacophonie des conversations infinies: j’en retire des bribes de rire, des extraits de phrases…Et bien sûr comment ignorer la mélodie des klaxons de voitures et le ronronnement du moteur des mobylettes.

Et enfin la mer et ses légères vagues qui terminent leur périple sur le sable. En regardant plus loin, on remarque Tarifa: l’amante impossible de Tanger. Les deux sont condamnées à ne jamais se toucher, à s’aimer de loin tout en se voyant de si près. Auparavant elles communiquaient par coups de canons. Aujourd’hui elles s’envoient des lettres d’amour par l’intermédiaire des bateaux et des voyageurs, ces gens qui s’habillent si bien la nuit pour se promener près la mer, comme pour honorer la beauté de l’amour de ces deux continents.
