Dinostar Week Day 1; Yellow

Darius across from Brooklynn on the couch as she filed his nails. "You keep your nails so short there's almost nothing to file!" Brooklynn said laughing. She continued, "I think yours are shorter than Kenji's, and his are microscopic because of his climbing." Brooklynn's face went slightly downcast at her mention of Kenji, he was still a sensitive subject. Darius grabbed Brooklynn's hands, halting her filing. "Hey, B, you ok?" Brooklynn looked up and plastered on a fake smile. "Yeah! yeah I'm good." Darius leaned forward, "Brooklynn. I know you better than that." She rolled her eyes, "I'm sad, ok? But I'll be fine. We weren't meant to be, I wasn't a good partner." Brooklynn sighed. "Can I be honest for a second?" Darius nodded, squeezing her hands tighter. "I love Kenji, I really do, I always will, and I was devastated when we first broke up but.." Darius bent his head down so he could catch her eye since Brooklynn was staring at her lap. "But...what?" Darius asked. Brooklynn looked up again. "Looking back, I feel like maybe I we weren't good for each other. I can't make him happy and give him what he deserves, he can't support my work. We fought a lot. I don't think we would've made it anyways, I think we would have broken up sooner or later for some other reason if he hadn't dumped me on that mountain." Brooklynn began to laugh as she recalled her break up with Kenji. "Oh my god, Darius, climbing down that thing after breaking up was hands down the most awkward thing I've ever experienced!" Darius started laughing with her. When their laughter died down, Brooklynn said, "Thanks for letting me vent, I know it's probably not fun hearing your brothers ex rant about her problems." Darius snorted, "Brooklynn, your not "my brothers ex", your my best friend." He wouldn't admit that he wishes she was more than that, he could barely admit it to himself. "Aw, Dino nerd." Brooklynn said as she ruffled his hair. Darius had forgotten all about the manicure he was supposed to be getting until Brooklynn pulled out a CVS bag. "Pick your color", she said while haphazardly waving the bag around. Darius grabbed the bag from her. "Ok-B, your gonna knock the lamp out with that thing", he said. Brooklynn stuck her tongue out. After looking through the contents of the bag, Darius picked out a yellow polish, definitely not because it was Brooklynn's favorite color. "Yay! I was hoping you'd pick yellow", Brooklynn said with a soft smile. As she painted his nails, Darius couldn't help but close his eyes. The feel of her hands on his made everything seem unimportant compared to this, to her. "Y'know, I love yellow on you." Brooklynn said, causing him to look at her. "Yeah?" Darius asked. Brooklynn nodded, "Yeah. It's such a you color, whenever I see a sunflower or a school bus or something I think of you." Darius laughed, "I'm sorry, a school bus?" Brooklynn smacked his arm. "Ok, maybe not a school bus, but you know what I mean." Darius couldn't help but feel like her favorite color reminding her of him meant something. No, he had to stop thinking like that. She would never see him that way. "Ok, done!" Darius examined her work. "Pretty." He said. Brooklynn tossed her short hair, "Of course it is, I did it."
