Whiteness
Whiteness is such a weird concept. To me, you are white if you are of European heritage. Weirdly enough, that's controversial.
Let me ask you a question: are Turkish people white? Do you have your answer? No matter the answer, to someone it is clearly wrong.
Let's talk about being white-passing. Do you know Darren Barnet, who played Paxton-Hall Yoshida in Never Have I Ever? Let's talk about him. He is Japanese, Cherokee, and German. What do you think he looks like? Here's an image.
Do you think that people harass him in the streets for being a brown person? Probably not. He passes for white. Is he white? Clearly not, as stated above.
What about Olivia Rodrigo? She's Filipino, but she looks very white.
This is a dilemma many mixed-race people such as myself face. People don't believe us when we say we are brown, because we look white. But when people find out we are brown, we aren't white anymore. When people find out, we can be harassed, or be victims of racist attacks.
You are probably thinking: but you aren't brown, you're Jewish! You are probably a goy. Jewish people are native to the Middle East. This is a fact, that has been proven over and over again by genetic testing. If you think that Jews are white, or Judaism isn't an ethnicity, think about how Jewish people were murdered in the holocaust for not being white. Secular Jews, and Christian Jews, were murdered in the holocaust because they were ethnically Jewish. Do you want to say Jews are white or we aren't an ethnicity? Have fun in your holocaust denial. Here are images of Jews.
Go on. Tell me those people are white. I dare you. Now remember these people, and think of all the different colors of brown people you have seen. Think of Lin Manuel Miranda. He's brown, isn't he? He could also pass for white.
Whiteness is a social construct that is fundamentally flawed. White passing privilege is not the same as white privilege. Ethnicity as a concept is flawed. Everyone will look different, no matter their ethnicity. We can acknowledge that people have an easier time with lighter skin and not shame brown people for having lighter skin. Watch the Black-ish episode on colorism. I watched it when I was young.

新年快乐,万事如意
ALSO A QUESTION
does FFM and the Land of Eternal Snow celebrate the spring festival? And if so, how would they celebrate it? Is there any cultural differences in how they celebrate? And any other details you’d be willing to share?
FFM and the Land of Eternal Snow indeed do celebrate the Spring Festival/Lunar New Year.
FFM all gather to watch the fireworks sent up to the sky from the mainland. They call it the Firework Festival. When the kingdom started to trade with other demons and the humans, the monkeys would all share sweet cakes and treats as they watch the fireworks being sent up to the sky. And as a build up to the fireworks, the monkeys of FFM would play music and dance and party for the entire day.
The Land of Eternal Snow celebrates this day very differently. Instead of a loud celebration shared by a community, it’s more of a day to memorialize and remember ancestors. Yue’s clan use this day to honor their founder, the Zodiac Monkey by sending up lanterns filled with wishes and gratitude. The children are also given star-shaped sweets by the adults in the family as a special treat. Since it’s such a sacred day, any murder attempts are forbidden so it’s a rare time where everyone can relax around each other.

Character/costume design tip:
look at character concept work and the traditional clothing of different cultures. Concept art is really just the artist having fun, playing with shape/color/texture to get a feel for their own world and character. Looking at other cultures lets you understand how clothing works on the human body, especially for clothing that isn’t familiar with what you wear. It is also great for shape/color/texture learning, and getting a broader understanding of what's possible to create! Obviously, don’t copy either option wholesale (that's either intellectual property theft or cultural appropriation) but it will help you get ideas and guidelines to work with!
Right now, I’m working on a character that needs a lot of drapey layers, so I’m looking at older Egyptian folk and belly-dancing outfits as they have a similar silhouette to what I want. I’m not going to copy them, but I get to see how real people arranged a combination of pants and skirts with a longer dress or tunic. Also, some clothing is just pretty to look at, like the colors and patterns on saris or the arrangement of robes on ancient Chinese court dress.

Cultural Perspectives on Confidence
All the information i got from different articles and internet resources! So if something is wrong, please tell me about it! 💗
1. Western Cultures (United States, Europe):
In Western cultures, confidence is often associated with assertiveness, self-promotion, and individual achievement.
Practices include public speaking training, assertiveness workshops, and emphasis on self-expression and self-esteem building from a young age.
2. Eastern Cultures (Japan, China, Korea):
In Eastern cultures, humility and modesty are valued virtues, and overt displays of confidence may be seen as arrogant.
Practices focus on discipline, perseverance, and group harmony rather than individual assertiveness. Respect for authority and elders is emphasized.
3. Mediterranean Cultures (Italy, Spain, Greece):
Confidence in Mediterranean cultures is often tied to social connections, family support, and emotional expressiveness.
Practices include lively social gatherings, where storytelling, passionate discussions, and expressing emotions openly are common.
4. Latin American Cultures:
Confidence in Latin American cultures is often intertwined with warmth, charisma, and resilience.
Practices include music, dance, and celebrations that promote self-expression and community bonding. Familial support and connections are highly valued.
5. African Cultures:
Confidence in African cultures may be linked to community support, spiritual beliefs, and storytelling traditions.
Practices include ceremonies, rituals, and communal activities that reinforce identity, strength, and resilience within the community.
6. Indigenous Cultures:
Indigenous cultures often emphasize a deep connection to nature, spirituality, and community.
Practices include ceremonies, storytelling, and rituals that promote harmony with nature, self-awareness, and respect for traditions.
7. Middle Eastern Cultures:
Confidence in Middle Eastern cultures may be tied to hospitality, honor, and familial ties.
Practices include communal meals, where hospitality and generosity are expressed, and storytelling traditions that pass down cultural values.
8. Scandinavian Cultures:
Confidence in Scandinavian cultures may be linked to egalitarianism, social welfare, and work-life balance.
Practices include outdoor activities, communal living concepts like "hygge" (coziness), and emphasis on equality and social justice.
Insights and Practices:
Embrace Diversity: Recognize that confidence can be expressed in various ways across cultures, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach.
Learn from Others: Take inspiration from different cultural practices that promote confidence, such as community support, storytelling, or spiritual connections.
Value Connection: Many cultures emphasize the importance of social connections, family, and community support in fostering confidence.
Respect Differences: Understand that cultural differences influence perceptions of confidence, and respect diverse perspectives and approaches.

I think the reason I get sad the Miyamura doesn’t wear his piercings or show his tattoos after the first episode really, is that while for Miyamura they meant a actual reason to stay hidden (it’s more of a sign of his pain from middle school and elementary) while for a lot of us (especially in America) see piercings and tattoos as freedom and moving on from our childhood/parents

Wanting to make even just oneshots about a culture you have to make up that culture to then unite it with another culture, another you made up, and the work that builds up to it is so crazy.
You mean i have to do research for 3 days just to figure out the perfect way to whittle a whistle or figurine from some random branch, but not just a random branch, a branch that has gone through a tedious line of preparation and selection to be chosen, A PROCESS YOU ALSO HAVE TO MAKE UP.
You mean I’m gonna be doing hours of research on the different cultures I’m basing mine of, of their intricate dances of celebration to the way the colors of their clothes accent their people so beautifully..
Maybe that’s the fun of it..
Maybe the fun of it is the build up along the way of learning the ins and outs of other cultures and learning about diversity to just make one of your own. If imagining different myths and legends, and even just sayings told to the children to keep them from trouble.
… maybe it is worth it.

So this post was kind of inspired by this post by @thequeenofsastiel and the comment I made on it. Instead of replying with more comments I thought I'll just make a post about it. So whoever is interested in knowing why there is significant lack of kissing for official couples in the BLs or Asian dramas, keep reading.
Kissing is mostly associated with sexual acts in most of the Asian countries. Couples (het or gay) who are officially dating or are married, rarely show regular affection by kissing. (Not on lips or even cheeks) . And this is not just in public it's scarce in private too unless it's part of sex.
It was super rare till recent years, things are definitely changing due to globalisation and social media reach.
This is partly the reason why the first kiss is given so much importance in Asian dramas.
The other aspect of this is, most western couples greet each other with hugs or kisses. It's quite common for you to see your parents or other couples, kissing each other while saying good bye or after coming back home. You would never see that type of greetings in Asian couples. Most if not all Asian countries use the hand folding 🙏 gesture to greet each other. Other than work places even hand shakes are very rare and even termed rude sometimes if you try to do it in familial spaces.
So then, how do you differentiate between couples and just friends. So most couples show affection in different ways Iike taking care of each other, doing things for your partner which they are perfectly capable of doing themselves but you still do it for them. Feeding your loved one is also a big thing. In general spending time together, sharing meals, dropping them off home, waiting for them to finish classes/work are big indicators that a couple might be official. (And you see plenty of all this in BLs or k-dramas).
Hand holding is also quite common, but that's not limited to couples. If you visit any Asian countries you would frequently see friends holding hands or just sitting super close in each other spaces. Casual touches in between friends are quite common. Hence most of the west world is baffled at the casual intimacy these actors show on sets, behind the scenes or on stage performances. There is most of the time nothing gay going on there, it's just how the Asian youth roll.
But there are always exceptions, and I think Sam & Mon are more of an exception than a norm.
