Everyone handed their gifts down, one by one to their secret Santa. Diane of course was the first to give her gift. With a big smirk on her face, she handed over her gift to Kyruem.

"Happy Holidays Kyurem! I heard you played guitar so I crafted some special guitar picks for you! Of course, Eva had to help me out by painting on the designs though, cause of my stubby paws, heh.. But I really hope you still like them! One's a yin and yang sign, one's two shooting stars, and the third is a sunset with a palm tree. And when I heard you like to travel, Sammy immediately butted in- And he said someday he could take you on a personal tour to the most glorious relaxation spots in all of Imaros! He said something about ice caverns, Krystal clear beach, anddd... what was it? Oh I forget- But anyways, I hope you enjoy your guitar picks!"

Once Diane had been done giving her gift to Kyurem, Kevinn then raced over to Savel to present her gifts to her.

"Merry Christmas- Er um- Happy Holidays Savel! I- Well my sis, and couple of my friends helped to make this best friends necklace for you Levas. My sis Lilac and I are really close, so I thought it would be a neto gift for you and your brother. It's a locket where it's sort of a "tradition" in a way to put a "piece" of yourself, like a fur tuff, in it and trade that half of the locket with someone you love or really care about. Oh and don't worry about there only being one string- There are just magnets in the back, so that you can take the lockets off if you want to make it into two, make it a bracelet, or anything else. So, I hole you and your brother enjoy the gift- And happy holidays again!"

Once Kevinn was finished speaking to Savel, Venus then moved herself closer to Omni so that she may hand over her gift she had made. Despite some reluctance, Venus eventually handed over her gift to Omni. A painting, of some sort of scenery..

"Happy Holidays, Omni! Um- I hope you like it.. It's a painting I have been sort of just worked on for a while now.. It's a painting of my favorite scenery spots from when I was younger.. It's of a huge ages old oak tree that used to stand alone within a valley of hills.. Like the painting itself, the memory of this place is special too, because it was somewhere where my Opa had taken me so that we could watch falling stars.. The tree of course has been surrounded by many other trees of its kind over these past years.. But- I don't know why I exactly painted it I the first place.. Or why I finished painting it.. But all I know now is this painting is special, and it belongs to you now.. So Happy Holidays again Omni, and I hope you enjoy the painting!"

Voiceplay Visuals: Running Up That Hill

I've never seen any episodes of Stranger Things, but I've learned bits and pieces about it from Tumblr/the internet, and of course I heard about its usage of Running Up That Hill (which I did know a little bit already) in season 4, which had the song shooting up to the tops of music charts, breaking a record for the longest time for a track to reach Number 1 spot on the UK's official Singles Chart (as well as the oldest female artist to get there).

Voiceplay's video for their cover of Running Up That Hill was released on the 2nd of July, 2022, and like the other "trendy"/popular song featured in a piece of recent media that they covered that year, it features Ashley Diane! So let's go! 😁

Apparently (if I'm correctly remembering the comments I read about it), Voiceplay used mops to cover the floor with a thin layer of water (which had to be done multiple times during filming), to get a cool reflective effect that would give the vibes of "The Upside-Down" from the series.

(And as always, shoutout to Eli for the lighting design!)

Eli is going double-denim (very 80s) with his jeans and denim jacket combo, and his "Hellfire Club" shirt is merch from Stranger Things! Ashley is wearing a cute crop top, and I love her hair and makeup here. Cesar's got a button-up shirt and a maroon jacket (which I kinda want for myself tbh), Layne's wearing ripped jeans (like Eli) and a kinda-patchwork-pattern button-up (which I also want), and Geoff... is doing The Least again. 😆 His "80s-style" outfit is a plain black/grey shirt, jeans, and a barely-noticeable jacket/jumper tied around the waist. I do love him but I can't help but (lightheartedly) call him out sometimes. 😂

As if I was going to talk about the visuals for this video without talking about this moment! So extremely cool, even if you're not into Stranger Things. No clue how they managed to pull it off, but very well done!

The guys' reactions are all absolute gold, of course 😂 ("what should we do?" "I don't know, just keep singing!")

Based on the very-fixed and very-specific shots we get of Ashley while she's "levitating", I'm guessing this was more done via clever editing and post-production work rather than anything like harnesses to actually lift her in the air (not sure if Voiceplay/Pattycake Productions would have the money or resources for that anyway), but still, absolutely brilliant job, and what a way to elevate the video! 😉 (couldn't help myself 😁)

Both of her parents were regular blue-collar workers, he mother is a machinist and her father a welder. They had met in passing as she was dropping off parts at the mechanics shop, he was working at and quickly fell in love, getting married and having Verena not long after.

Her relationship with them was always strained as they were both very closed off with their emotions with her. Because of that and being an only child, she never communicated with them well, eventually closing herself off to them completely.

CHILDHOOD - TEENS

2056 - At the age of 7 the standardized tests given to students flagged her as having an aptitude for netrunning so she was placed in an exclusive boarding school in Charter Hill as part of a special outreach program sponsored by night corp. She excelled at her studies but struggled to make friends as most of her peers were the children of corpos. She spent summers back at home with her parents and seeing the difference in the quality of life had an effect on her, jading her to NC as she aged. Her parents were ecstatic at the thought of their child having a better life than them so failure became something that was severely punished.

2060 - By the time she was in middle school she had a small but close-knit group of friends, both from corps backgrounds and backgrounds similar to her. She was fiercely protective of them and got in multiple fights defending them from the same bullying she had received.

2064 - When not studying she became very interested in edgrunning, specifically solos, but rockerboy culture as well. She liked the inherent rebellion they represented and wished she could do the same. But she knew that she would disappoint her parents if she strayed from the path she was on. So she would listen to records and read about the legends of NC under her blankets at night.

2065 - At 16 she was chipped with her professional ports, she viewed them as the final seal in the life that she was going to live, like it or not. As an act of rebellion, she shaved her head and got multiple ear piercings. She was reprimanded by the school, an action that brought her parent's fists down on her as well. During the summer she would often sneak into clubs and bars to get away from her home environment.

2067 - She graduated with high enough grades that she was able to attend NCU on a full ride where she majored in Cybersecurity with a focus on Offensive Hacking. She looks back on her time there fondly as she met more like-minded people, many of whom pushed her to express herself more. She joined a small band as a guitarist. Eventually entering a relationship with the basest – Sara. It was a very toxic relationship and they both treated each other like shit. V’s generally guarded nature closed her off the deeper in the relationship she got.

20’S

2070 - The unification war caused the university to push its students through faster so she graduated a year early and immediately started looking for a job, not wanting to disappoint her parents.

July 2070 - With Arasaka now back in night city they were doing massive hiring and V managed to get her foot in the door in the Counter Inelegance Division.

August 2070 - Her bosses found her to be adept at espionage so they sent her to do black ops work with a small crew in South America for approximately a year and a half. During this time she honed her skill with a pistol.

October 2072 - leaves to spend 11 months in Rio De Janeiro tracking a “terrorist” cell. Her team eventually took out the group after she was captured on a solo reconnaissance mission and interrogated/tortured for over a week.

September 2073 - Rio really traumatized her and she crawled into herself and didn’t want to return to work so Arasaka wanted to drop her, Jenkins saw her skills as exploitable and invited her to stay in office. During this time she became estranged from her parents.

June 2074 - Meets Jackie at the Mexican border, he saves her ass by helping her extract an agent.

September 2076 - Moves into the Wells household.

Who Changed the Bible & Why? Diane Rehm Show

Tertullian cites Roman archives in Latin that indicates that Tiberius received an intelligence report from Judea, that is, Pilate, that indicates that Roman soldiers were calling  Jesus Followers “Christians" before Jesus was arrested and that what ever was in the intelligence report impressed Tiberius sufficiently for him to propose elevating Jesus to the Roman Pantheon. Tiberius dies in 37 CE, four years after Jesus was executed, This immediate timing of this communication is completely consistent with ANY diplomatic/military enterprise and the euangelion designation of this communication reflects an official urgency consistent with its subject matter: a divine covenant between the Jewish god and the Roman Republic as represtented by Cornelius of the Italian Regiment. The interesting thing for me in Tertullian's research is the instant hostility of the Senate and Roman society to the Christians to the extent that Tiberius felt compelled to protect the Christians from Roman persecution of some sort. I've spent my entire life taking the hostility of Romans to Christians for granted. I could understand the stoning of Stephen by the Jews as the sort of thing Jews still do to what they consider heresy, but Pilate’s euangelion gets to Tiberius before Stephen was stoned and before Saul sets off for Damasucs. It turns out the Roman hatred of Christians had nothing to do with Jesus but with their fear and loathing of Tiberius in the wake of the execution of Sejanus and any related purges. Christians became a proxy for Tiberius for Roman society and Tacitus inherited this hostility to the tribe of Christians 30 years later. Sejanus was exectued in 31 CE. The Jesus Seminar version of Jesus has Him dying in 30 CE, so the connection to Christians and Roman hostility  simply wouldn't have happened. But colleagues  of Peter J. Williams have determined through astronomy that Jesus died in 33 CE, so the connection between the hostility of Roman society towards Christians and the death of Sejanus is unavoidable in a rational world., and obviates Ehrman's alleged consensus of scholars dating of the Gospel of Mark as late as 65 CE as an absurd propositon. The fact of the matter is that the first 19 books of the New Testament plus Revelation had been completed and  in circulation between Rome and Alexandria, and the 19th blessing had been added to the amidah, by the death of Nero. Irenaeus noted that the Jesus Followers had evacuted from Jerusalem after the withdrawl of the 12th Legion from Jerusalem (and it's destruction) in 66 CE based on Jesus's prophecy as recorded in Mark 13. And the Holy Spirit had brought Peter and Cornelius together between the death of Tiberius and the death of Caligua to trade notes on Jesus resulting in the Latin autograph of the Gospel of Mark being conveyed to Rome with the expanded euangelion of Mark 1:1 by the time of the Council in Jerusalem of 48 CE in Acts 15:7. In short, there is no historic basis for the Jesus Seminar's timing for the Gospels nor Ehrman's premise that the Gospel of Mark is, in any way, derivative of Pauline Theology, The fact of the matter is that Pauline Theology is the result of the extraction of Paul's rabbinic principles from the Mark 1:1 euangelion. In this, N.T. Wright has properly interpreted Pauline Theology, He only believes he has rejected Hegel in favor of the dialectical Marxism of the Jesus Seminar and Post Modern Historic Deconstruction , Ehrman's thesis is pruely a function of his Apostasy business model and Chapel Hill power politics.

All About the Lake Lindsey Dinosaur

Most people who have traveled Lake Lindsey Road east of US 41 notice half of a dinosaur, life-sized, on the north side of the road. I have often asked people if they know where Lake Lindsey is. Most look confused and respond, “maybe…” I ask them if they remember the dinosaur and suddenly their eyes light up. “I’ve seen that.” “Weirdest thing ever.” “What happened?” “Why doesn’t someone finish it?” are common responses. Locals tell the story of August Herwede and his infamous half-Brontosaur that my oldest son calls “Headley.” August was a man with a mission who created his art for enjoyment. What do you do with Half a Dinosaur? Kevin Eaton grew up in Pasco County – Hudson in fact. He lives adjacent to the dinosaur and thought something should be done with the legendary beast. “For fifty years, this dinosaur sat untouched,” Kevin told me. “I thought something should be done with it. It would be nice if someone would finish the front half – if they know how.” “I’ve had people from Australia, England, Sweden, and all over stop for pictures with the dinosaur. I love to see parents bring their children for pictures. Sometimes we help children get in its belly for a picture,” Kevin said. “It brings me a lot of joy to see how much people appreciate this piece of local history.” Kevin’s brother, Steven Eaton actually owns the dinosaur. He lives on five acres behind and up the hill a bit. Steps were built into the tail of the half-finished Brontosaurus on Lake Lindsey Road by its creator, August Herwede. Image by Diane Bedard. Meeting Headley I walk over to August Herwede’s unfinished masterpiece and realize there is a hole in the underbelly where a ladder can be inserted to climb inside. “There are steps going down the tail,” Kevin tells me. “This is one well-made dinosaur!” Where did the Lake Lindsey Dinosaur Come From? August Herwede emigrated to the U.S. from Volkmarsen, Germany in 1924. He was a painter, a farmer, a stained-glass window maker for churches, and an interior designer who came to Florida’s Nature Coast in 1951. August built a home for himself and his wife, Augusta, on an acre of land along Lake Lindsay Road. August wanted to build an elephant, but his wife wouldn’t let him. In 1964, she passed away and he began creating his first pachyderm from plaster with canvas ears that would flap in the breeze. It was about five feet, according to Michael Marzella, a St. Petersburg Times reporter in the 1970s. A 1969 Tampa Tribune story with photos by Jim Twitty shows some of August Herweide's menagerie. There Was a Whole Zoo Locals, like David Ward, remember multiple dinosaurs, an elephant, a wooly mammoth and more. “We would look at the creatures and enjoy the scenes that were created,” David reminisced with me. “I remember a Tyrannosaurus Rex, one of those spiny dinosaurs, a Stegosaurus, and a duck-billed one in a scene under Oak trees with Spanish moss hanging down. It was kind of spooky.” In fact, August Herwede constructed 30-plus life-sized creatures, from a lion family to dinosaurs, and a 12-foot woolly mammoth with long curving tusks and tufted ‘hair’ from concrete, wood, and wire in two years! In the mid-1970s, there were picnic tables, a totem pole, and a sign that read “See the Animals” amongst them on the acre lot that was his home. August Herweide in his Brontosaurus while he was constructing his swan song by Mike Woodfin. Making the Brontosaurus In 1966, he began construction of his masterpiece: the Brontosaurus. This amazing statue would be built to scale, nearly sixty feet long and thirty feet tall! Like the rest of his prehistoric replicas, August’s Brontosaurus would be crafted on a wooden frame with a wire-reinforced concrete shell. It would be hollow, with access to the inside from a hole in the beast’s belly. He dug a pit to be its swamp home at the curve on State Road 476 and began construction. August was working on the project when he fell from the scaffolding and broke both of his legs. His neighbor found him several hours later and took him to the hospital. "The sad part about it is the big one he never finished," said Mrs. William Herwede, his daughter-in-law who lived in Valley Stream, N.Y. "He was going to make the whole history of the animal inside, but when he broke both legs, he knew he couldn't finish them and had no will to live.” August Herwede died from a fall while constructing his iconic Brontosaur. She and her husband inherited the property after August Herwede died, and they tried to maintain the statuary, but weather and vandals took their toll. A drunk driver ran into the totem pole, Cypress Gardens purchased the leopard snagging a fish, a trailer park bought the lion family, and Saint Petersburg insurance executive, Charles Lenz, purchased nine of them for a miniature golf course at his Homosassa campground. By 1984, there were only seven pieces left. Some in major disrepair. Finally, each of August’s creations was removed, except the back half of the Brontosaurus who has stood silently for nearly sixty years, heralding travelers along State Road 476, also known as Lake Lindsey Road. Tragedy at Sea

Drive onto the grounds of Mare Island's Touro University and head up the hill to what used to be the Bachelor Officers Quarters (BOQ) and you will find the administrative offices for the university. The building maintains its name from when it was a navy base, Wilderman Hall.

That name harkens back to a tragedy that occurred just after Thanksgiving in 1973. In 1971 Commander Alvin Wilderman, the captain of the USS Plunger (SSN-595) brought his submarine to Mare Island for a major overhaul. The arrival of the submarine was subject to much fanfare, for not only did such an overhaul represent a vast amount of work for the shipyard, but she was also constructed at Mare Island ten years before becoming the 500th ship built here.

During Plunger’s stay at Mare Island, Cdr. Wilderman proved himself to be a real gentleman and extremely smart individual well-liked by shipyard personnel. The award-winning Plunger was also singled out for more awards by the fleet including designation as ship-of-the-month and she was awarded the Battle “E” for efficiency award.

As the overhaul work and testing program work completed, the Plunger was scheduled for sea trials. Sea trials are the final step in returning a ship to the fleet. During sea trials every system is operationally tested in its natural environment as shipyard workers ride with the crew to assist. That testing program was to take place outside of the Golden Gate in an area off the Marin Headlands known famously as the “Potato Patch.” The area got its name from ships carrying potatoes to market that would overturn in rough conditions as swells broke over the shallow reefs guarding the entrance to the gate. The area was particularly hazardous during storms when wind whipped waves could turn the area into an aquatic hell.

As the week prior to Plunger’s Friday departure for sea trials progressed, a Pacific Storm was expected to hit at any time, although weather reports did not predict unusual intensity. High pressure over California held the storm at sea until Thursday when that high-pressure area began to drift to the east. As Plunger departed Mare Island Naval Shipyard rain was in the forecast, but there was still nothing particularly noteworthy in the predicted weather. As it turned out, a full gale was about to hit with winds so strong that the aircraft carrier USS Ranger (CV-61) that was scheduled to dock at Alameda Naval Air Station was held out in the bay to allow the storm to blow itself out. Meanwhile Plunger headed out the Golden Gate on the surface and into the teeth of the fast-moving storm. On the small bridge was Cdr. Wilderman, the Officer of the Deck (OOD) and a lookout. Plunger was encountering heavy weather with winds of more than 50 miles per hour and seas 12 feet and higher. The sail of this class of submarine was very small and low to the water. Recognizing the seriousness of the worsening situation, Cdr. Wilderman ordered the OOD and lookout below. He was now alone on the bridge.

The Plunger was entering the Potato Patch 6 miles out when at 4:17pm a large comber washed over the bridge and Cdr. Wilderman was swept into the chilly waters. As word of man overboard reached nearby shore facilities and ships, a massive search was undertaken. Back at Mare Island available ships were put to sea to assist the Coast Guard and other submarines including the USS Seawolf (SSN-575) that were operating in the area. Fog, gale force winds and driving rain all worked to hinder rescue operations. By the following day the storm had moved east, and calmer seas and sunny skies broke out, but it was too late. No sign of Cdr. Wilderman was ever found. Sadness broke over the shipyard as hundreds attended the well-liked skipper’s funeral services. For his selfless act ordering others to safety while he remained alone on the bridge, he was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.

According to his wife Diane, Cdr. Wilderman considered Vallejo the best Navy town in the United States, and he spent some of the happiest days in the Navy at Mare Island. Cdr. Wilderman was not forgotten by his friends at Mare Island and ten years later, an effort culminated to name the BOQ located in one of the most peaceful and verdant areas of the shipyard after the fallen man. That recommendation was approved by the Chief of Naval Operations and the BOQ was so named in his honor. It is fitting that Touro University chose to retain the name Wilderman Hall and continue to honor Cdr. Wilderman who passed away at 36 years of age in service to his Nation. Cdr. Wilderman left behind his wife Diane and two sons.

In the clearing is a treehouse, and the two of them make love for the first time. When she is caught by her family, she promises to end things with him.

Win meets her again a few nights later as they had discussed, but their meeting is marred by the arrival of the KKK. Win is beaten, and dragged by a truck that Ellie sees now belongs to Reed and she is certain that he was involved, though his innocence shines through, even over the years. Ellie nevers finds Win's body, knowing that he has been murdered by the KKK and his remains never having been found.

In 2010, Ellie has returned to Round Hill after 45 years away in San Francisco, where she decided to reside after Win's demise. She has only returned as her mother and brother's health has declined severely, and she has hopes of repairing the friendship she once had with Brenda despite having a falling out.

Kayla strikes up a friendship with Ellie, though after learning that Reed is her father, she seems to be standoffish with her moreso. But when Kayla saves Buddy, Ellie's brother, from a potentially fatal fire, Ellie decides to put that behind her and basically becomes a confidant for Kayla.

Eventually, after many more mishaps with the house, and Rainie being kidnapped by the mysterious woman with red hair, Kayla is all but ready to put the house on the market until she learns that Ellie was in the treehouse in the clearning, where it has stood the test of time all of these years. She confesses to Kayla what happened back in 1965, and what led to her departure to head West.

Kayla confronts her father, who reassures her that he had nothing to do with it. But, when Reed and Kayla go to the house to speak with Buddy, after Win's remains are found in the woods behind Kayla's house while her fence is being installed, they learn the ugly truth.
