Hwy 128 Colorado River Scenic Byway, UT (No. 12)
Traveling 34 miles (55 km) west of Dinosaur, Colorado, the Dinosaur Diamond encounters the small city of Vernal, Utah. Vernal borders the western end of the Dinosaur National Monument; other notable attractions nearby include Steinaker State Park, Red Fleet State Park, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, and the Ashley National Forest.
Continuing along the Dinosaur Diamond, US 40 and US 191 converge within Vernal, heading west for 30 miles (48 km) to the city of Roosevelt. Roosevelt is located on the edge of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. Heading 29 miles (47 km) to the west is the county seat of Duchesne, located within the reservation. Nearby Duchesne are Starvation State Park and Kings Peak (the highest point in Utah), which is part of the Uinta Mountain range. The Uinta Mountains are one of the few mountain ranges in the contiguous United States which run east–west, and are the highest range to do so.
Within Duchesne, US 40 and US 191 diverge, and the DD continues 55 miles (89 km) south along US 191 over an unnamed mountain pass, through the small town of Helper, and into the larger city of Price. The numerous attractions surrounding Price include College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum, Manti-La Sal National Forest, Huntington Lake State Park, Scofield State Park, and Ninemile Canyon which features numerous petroglyphs. Also nearby is the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry, a prehistoric mud trap which claims to be the densest concentration of Jurassic dinosaur fossils in the world.
Traveling 63 miles (101 km) southeast along US 191, the DD encounters the city of Green River. Notable features surrounding Green River include the San Rafael Swell, Green River State Park, and Goblin Valley State Park. Also nearby is Crystal Geyser, a rare (but man-made) cold water geyser caused by the expansion of carbonized "soda pop" water within. Within Green River, US 191 converges with I-70 for a short while and diverges again, south towards the city of Moab, 55 miles (89 km) from Green River.
Just south of the junction of US 191 and SR-128, the city of Moab features a number of nearby attractions. Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse Point State Park, and the Newspaper Rock and Potash Road petroglyphs.
Leaving Moab, the DD continues north along SR-128 to its terminus with I-70 in Cisco. Traveling east along I-70, before completing the "diamond" back in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Rise in Popularity of Porta Potties in Hawaii
Hawaii, known for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and bustling tourism industry, has seen a notable rise in the use of porta potties. These portable sanitation solutions are not just a temporary convenience; they have become an integral part of various activities and events across the islands. Let’s delve into why porta potties are becoming increasingly popular in the Aloha State.
A Boon for the Tourism Industry
Hawaii’s tourism industry is one of the most robust in the world, drawing millions of visitors annually. From the pristine beaches of Waikiki to the volcanic landscapes of the Big Island, Hawaii offers a plethora of outdoor attractions. Porta potties are essential in these settings, providing much-needed facilities for tourists exploring remote or less developed areas where permanent restrooms are scarce.
Outdoor events, such as the Aloha Festivals, Honolulu Marathon, and various music and cultural festivals, also rely heavily on porta potties. These events often draw large crowds, and adequate sanitation is crucial for maintaining hygiene and comfort. The flexibility of porta potties allows event organizers to strategically place units where they are most needed, ensuring attendees have access to clean and convenient restroom facilities.
Supporting the Construction Boom
Hawaii is experiencing a construction boom, with numerous projects ranging from residential developments to infrastructure upgrades. Construction sites typically lack permanent restrooms, making porta potties an indispensable part of the daily operations. They ensure that workers have access to clean and convenient facilities, which is not only a matter of convenience but also a health and safety requirement.
The construction industry’s reliance on porta potties underscores their importance in supporting the state’s growth and development. By providing essential sanitation facilities, porta potties help maintain worker productivity and project timelines.
Enhancing the Outdoor Experience
Hawaii’s natural beauty is one of its greatest assets. The state’s parks, hiking trails, and beaches are frequented by both locals and tourists. In many of these natural settings, permanent restrooms are either unavailable or insufficient to handle the high volume of visitors. Porta potties fill this gap, ensuring that people can enjoy outdoor activities without compromising on basic sanitation needs.
For instance, popular hiking destinations like the Diamond Head State Monument or the Kalalau Trail on Kauai see thousands of visitors each year. Porta potties at trailheads and along the trails help protect the environment by providing designated sanitation areas, reducing the risk of pollution in these pristine landscapes.
Environmental and Practical Considerations
Porta potties are not only practical but also environmentally friendly. Modern porta potties are designed to minimize water usage and contain waste effectively, reducing the environmental impact compared to traditional restrooms. This is particularly important in Hawaii, where preserving the natural environment is a top priority.
Additionally, the flexibility of porta potties allows them to be placed in locations where traditional plumbing is not feasible. This makes them ideal for temporary events, remote locations, and sites where infrastructure development is limited.
Conclusion
The popularity of porta potties in Hawaii is a testament to their versatility and necessity. From supporting the bustling tourism and construction industries to enhancing the outdoor experience and protecting the environment, porta potties play a crucial role in maintaining the state’s hygiene standards and overall quality of life. As Hawaii continues to grow and attract visitors from around the world, the demand for these portable sanitation solutions is likely to remain strong. Among the many providers, PortaPottyPro stands out as one of the best porta potty companies in Hawaii, known for their reliable service and commitment to quality. This ensures that everyone can enjoy the beauty and hospitality of the Aloha State without compromising on comfort and cleanliness.

Visitors Guide to Honolulu, Hawaii, USA
Honolulu is one of the most popular destinations in Hawaii and is a major city, being located at the far end of Waikiki. The main tourist hot spots in Honolulu are the downtown district - the Pacific Region's main financial and business center, and Waikiki, the heart of Honolulu. Waikiki is known for its narrow sandy beach area, which has become one of the world's most notable beaches, lined with many excellent shops, restaurants and accommodation.
Located on Hawaii's Oahu Island, Honolulu is full of things to see and attractions to visit. Dominated by the imposing Diamond Head volcano, which is now extinct, Honolulu is known for its tropical landscape, palm trees, harbor, nearby islands and the Mamala Bay, where a range of water sports are on offer.
Honolulu Travel:
With a large population and many spreading urban areas, traffic in Honolulu can become understandably busy, particularly due to the cluster of one-way streets. There are a number of car parks and on-street parking areas in central Honolulu, and car rental is widely available. Renting a car in Honolulu is one of the most convenient ways to explore the island of Oahu, although other popular methods of transport include buses, coaches, taxis and even bicycles.
Honolulu International Airport (HNL) stands around 4 miles / 6 km from the center of the city and is an important transportation hub. Many passengers arrive each day at Honolulu Airport from mainland America, London and other nearby Hawaiian Islands. With three terminals and a range of facilities, the airport is just a short trip from central Honolulu, with a number of hotels nearby hawaii .
Places to Stay in Honolulu:
Honolulu thrives on tourism and there is a huge range of accommodation throughout the city. Hotel rates in Honolulu are often high, although a selection of budget options do exist, namely bed and breakfast accommodation, which is usually well presented. The American Youth Hostel in Honolulu offers extremely inexpensive rooms and is always popular with budget travelers visiting the city.
At the opposite end of the scale, Honolulu is home to a wealth of luxury hotels, often with simply breathtaking coastal views and convenient locations. Some of Honolulu's premier hotels are amongst the best in the world.
Honolulu Tourism:
Tourist attractions in Honolulu are excellent and apart from the endless stretches of golden sands, there are plenty of things to see, making Honolulu the ideal holiday destination. Facilities include landmarks and monuments, historical museums, contemporary art galleries, must-see sights, and a large variety of recreational activities.
Tumblr media
Top attractions include Aloha Tower Marketplace, Honolulu Zoo, Iolani Palace, the Aloha Tower, Diamond Head Lighthouse, the State Capitol Building, Hawaii Maritime Center, the Hawaii State Art Museum, and the Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
Honolulu Restaurants:
There is an incredible diversity of restaurants and places to eat throughout Honolulu, reflecting the ethnic communities and locals. Look for the restaurants where locals in Honolulu choose to eat, such as those around the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where you will find an array of affordable cafes and food outlets. Also, the food court in the Ala Moana Center is particularly well stocked.
Honolulu Weather:
The weather in Honolulu varies only slightly all through the year, with constant temperatures reaching the 70s and 80s. Honolulu features two main seasons - April to November, which is slightly warmer than the period December to March. The surrounding ocean remains warm throughout the year and is one of Honolulu's main attractions.

On our last journey out to Hawaiian Islands, on departure from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport from island of O’ahu to the big Island Hawaii, we took off in an easterly bound direction and I was able to capture some images of Diamond Head Crater. It’s scale from the air compared to Waikiki Beach immediately west of it and Honolulu next to that show how immense the volcanic crater is. As I had posted earlier images taken from the rim, my damsel’s sweet daughter took us on what was a strenuous hike up to the rim from the bottom, as it is a state park referred to as the Diamond Head State Monument. The views of Waikiki and Honolulu from the rim were amazing from that vantage point but seeing it from up above the clear delineation of tuff cone of the crater are clearly visible and what an amazing geological formation it is. #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #iphone13pro @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @apple @oahu_hawaiii @kehcamera @mpbcom (at Honolulu, Oahu Hawaii) https://www.instagram.com/p/CodkPd2vYIW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Best Islands to Visit in Hawaii
Tumblr media
Best Islands to Visit in Hawaii
When most people think of Hawaii, they think of sandy beaches, tropical fruit, and hula dancers. And while all of these things can be found on the islands, there is so much more to discover. Each island has its unique personality, from the active volcanoes of Hawaii to the remote beaches of Kauai. If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii, it’s important to know which island is the best fit for you and your interests. In this blog post, we will explore the best islands to visit in Hawaii based on different activities and interests. From hiking to swimming to simply taking in the sights, there is an island for everyone in Hawaii.
Big Island - Best Islands to Visit in Hawaii
There are eight major islands in Hawaii, and while each has its unique charm, the Big Island is truly unrivaled. Here you’ll find active volcanoes, black sand beaches, lush rainforests, and much more. The Big Island is home to Hawaii’s tallest mountain, Mauna Kea. At 13,796 feet, it’s taller than Mt. Everest when measured from the ocean floor! The summit of Mauna Kea is a popular spot for stargazing – on a clear night, you can see up to 14,000 stars. The island is also home to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can see the lava flow from Volcano Village, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. For a different kind of adventure, take a helicopter tour over the crater or go hiking through the Thurston Lava Tube. And no visit to the Big Island would be complete without seeing Punalu‘u Beach, famous for its black sand created by lava flows into the ocean. The beach is also a nesting ground for endangered Hawaiian green sea turtles. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation (or both!), the Big Island has something for everyone – making it one of the best islands to visit in Hawaii.
Maui
Maui is one of the most popular islands to visit in Hawaii. Maui is known for its beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, and its many activities and attractions. Maui is also a great place to enjoy the Hawaiian culture. There are many things to do in Maui. You can spend your days relaxing on the beach, hiking through Haleakala National Park, or exploring the town of Lahaina. There are also many great restaurants in Maui, so you can try some delicious Hawaiian food. If you are looking for a place to stay in Maui, there are many great hotels and resorts to choose from. Whether you want to stay in a luxury resort or a more budget-friendly hotel, you will be able to find something that fits your needs in Maui.
Oahu
If you're looking for the perfect island getaway, look no further than Oahu. This Hawaiian island is home to some of the best beaches in the world, as well as a wealth of cultural attractions. From Waikiki Beach to Diamond Head State Monument, there's something for everyone on Oahu. Whether you're looking to relax on the beach or explore Hawaii's rich culture, Oahu is the perfect destination. Soak up the sun at one of the island's many pristine beaches, or visit historic sites like Pearl Harbor. For a truly unforgettable experience, take a helicopter tour of the island to see its natural beauty from above. No matter what your interests are, you'll find plenty to do on Oahu. So start planning your trip today and experience all that this Hawaiian Island has to offer!
Kauai
Kauai is known as Hawaii’s Garden Island, and it’s easy to see why. This island is lush and green, with beautiful hiking trails, waterfalls, and beaches. Kauai is also home to the Napali Coast, a stretch of coastline with dramatic cliffs that are popular for kayaking and hiking. If you’re looking for a laid-back island vibe, Kauai is the perfect place to visit. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy, but the pace is slower here than on some of the other Hawaiian islands.
Lanai
The island of Lanai is one of the most beautiful and secluded islands in Hawaii. It is known for its unspoiled natural beauty, dramatic cliffs, and pristine beaches. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, and exploring the many hidden coves and waterfalls. There are also several excellent restaurants on the island, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Hawaiian lifestyle.
Molokai
Molokai is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled islands in Hawaii. It's known for its dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and lush green valleys. Visitors can hike to Kalaupapa National Historical Park, snorkel in Hulopo`e Bay, or take a mule ride down the Kalaupapa Peninsula. Molokai is the perfect place to get away from it all and experience the true beauty of Hawaii.
What to do on each island
There are so many things to do on each of the Hawaiian Islands, it's hard to know where to start. Here are some highlights of what to do on each island: On Oahu, visit Honolulu and Waikiki Beach, then head to the North Shore for some world-famous surf. Take a drive out to the East Coast to see the majestic cliffs of the Nu'uanu Pali Lookout. Don't forget to visit Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. On Maui, take a drive down the Road to Hana and see Hawaii's lush rainforest and black sand beaches. Visit Haleakala National Park for an otherworldly experience in the volcano country. Or just relax on one of Maui's many white sand beaches like Kapalua Bay or Makena Beach. On Kauai, go hiking on one of its many pristine hiking trails like Kalalau Trail or Awa'awapuhi Trail. Visit Waimea Canyon, often called "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." And don't miss a chance to see Kauai's famous Napali Coast on a helicopter tour or boat cruise. On Hawaii Island (also called The Big Island), visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to see an active volcano up close. Drive down the Chain of Craters Road for an amazing view of lava flow after lava flow. Or take a dip in one of The Big Island's many hot springs like Ahalanui Park.
Conclusion
There are so many beautiful islands to visit in Hawaii, it's hard to choose just one. But if we had to narrow it down, these would be our top picks for the best islands to visit in Hawaii. From Kauai's stunning Napali Coast to Maui's dramatic Haleakala crater, there is something for everyone on these Islands. So start planning your trip today and see for yourself why Hawaii is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world.

Sunset at Waikiki Beach looking toward Diamond Head
Highly recommend Hanauma Bay to get your snorkeling fix! $7.50 entry fee and options to rent your own snorkel gear and/or locker. Recommend going in the morning for clearer waters.
View from Koko Head trail. Went here after snorkeling because a women I met on the bus suggested it. Climb up a steep abandoned railroad track for a sense of accomplishment and beautiful views.
Sunrise from Diamond Head State Monument. A touristy must. Easy hike, but pretty cool to do. $1 entry fee with options to do guided tours.
Other things:
Ala Moana Beach Park
Chinatown (specifically First Friday events)
Shark Cage Diving in the North Shore
Waikiki Aquarium
Pearl Harbor (Hop on Hop off trolley tour)

About Queen Victoria and her statue in Albert Park
Tumblr media Tumblr media
About the Statue:
F. J. Williamson's bronze statue of Queen Victoria was unveiled in Albert Park as a Diamond Jubilee project in 1899, would be the site of many Empire Day events.
About Queen Victoria:
Victoria, in full Alexandrina Victoria, (born May 24, 1819, Kensington Palace, London, England—died January 22, 1901, Osborne, near Cowes, Isle of Wight), queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (1837–1901) and empress of India (1876–1901). She was the last of the house of Hanover and gave her name to an era, the Victorian Age. During her reign, the British monarchy took on its modern ceremonial character. She and her husband, Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, had nine children, through whose marriages were descended many of the royal families of Europe.
Queen Victoria and New Zealand:
Constitutional ties to the British royal family remained strong in the 2000s. The monarch is New Zealand’s head of state, a leader shared with 15 other nations around the world.
The governor-general is the monarch’s representative in New Zealand, although the reverence felt for the monarch was not transferred to the governor-general. A number of the monarch’s formal duties have been delegated to the governor-general. Some of these are to do with the political process, including:
summoning and dissolving Parliament
appointing the prime minister and other ministers
assenting to legislation.
For the most part, New Zealand’s link with Britain has been through government rather than royalty as such. When James Cook claimed New Zealand for the UK in 1769, he did it in the name of George III. But his instructions came from the British Admiralty (which had authorised him to annex territory that looked useful). This was the pattern from then on: things were done in the sovereign’s name, but managed and usually led by administrators.
Tumblr media
Pictured Above: Antipodean Pictorial. Assimilation picture No 2 King Te Wherowhero Tawhiao, Governor George Grey and Queen Victoria, 1996-1997, by William Dunning.
Below piece: Long she reigned over us: Queen Victoria at Te Papa written by Mark Stocker
"I will end this blog on a strange and unsettling note. In the 1990s, William Dunning produced a series of startling imagined, counterfactual monuments to New Zealand history. Here, in a tableau vivant, the colonial governor and premier Sir George Grey towers over the Māori King Tāwhaio and Queen Victoria. He places a familiar hand on’s Tāwhaio’s shoulder, but wisely does not attempt to do a ‘Paul Keating’ on the Queen. Is Dunning trying to say that Grey as governor had to straddle responsibility to Queen Victoria in London (whom he personally revered), with Tāwhaio whose King Movement potentially challenged her sovereignty during some of the most turbulent times in New Zealand history? Later, seeking to have the Treaty of Waitangi honoured, Tāwhaio and his visiting deputation were denied an audience with the Queen. Perhaps Dunning is trying to tell us that Victoria was just part of a complex colonial sovereignty conundrum rather than the glorious, evidently untroubled ruler depicted in official imagery. He may well be right."
