These benign growths are a common concern for women of reproductive age, with studies indicating that up to 70-80% of women may develop fibroids at some point in their lives. What Are Uterine Fibroids? Uterine fibroids are dense, firm masses of muscle and…

It's endometriosis awareness month! Here's some general knowledge on my condition, as misinformation is constantly spread about it.
Endometriosis is a disease affecting 1 in 10 people with uteruses. A tissue similar to the endometrial lining, of period blood, grows and sheds on the outside of the uterus. As the menstrual cycle comes, the blood has nowhere to go. This causes intense pain and irritation to surrounding organs. It is one of the most painful diseases recorded.
Endometriosis was first discovered in 1860, though it was recognized in the Hippocratic Corpus around 4,000 years ago. Treatments have varied through the years, starting out with bloodletting, leeches, hanging upside down, exorcisms, genital mutilation, and chemical douches. During the Middle ages, the perception of chronic pelvic pain shifted from a recognized condition to something caused by hysteria, promiscuity, or it was made up. In the hayday of Hippocratic practice, Endometriosis was more common than it is today, likely due to the inaccessibility of diagnosis compared to 4,000 years ago. Somehow.
Today, treatments include birth control, surgery, hysterectomy, and pain relief. There is no cure.
It takes an average of 7-12 years for someone to receive a diagnosis.
Anyone can get endometriosis, including cis men
A hysterectomy is not a cure, as endometriosis will continue to grow and spread to other organs
The pain one experiences due to endometriosis does not correlate with staging. Staging reveals how extensive endometriosis lesions are, not pain. Someone with stage 1 could experience excruciating pain, while someone with stage 4 and frozen pelvis can experience no pain.
Endometriosis lesions are not endometrial lining. The tissue is similar, but not the same. Thus, no one actually knows what endometriosis actually is.
It is only diagnosable through laparoscopic surgery. It can be detected via imaging such as ultrasound or MRI, but more often than not, it isn't seen. You can have completely clear tests up until your surgery and still have even the higher stages of Endo (like me!) (this one was for all you undiagnosed people, you're not crazy!)
Endometriosis is comorbid with many things, including pelvic floor dysfunction, adenomyosis, vulvodynia, uterine cancer and fibroids, ovarian cancer, many autoimmune and inflammatory conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, MS, IBD), and cardiovascular disease.
I've provided links in each point and I deeply encourage you to read my sources, whether you have endo or not. Not enough people understand endometriosis so a lot of us who deal with it don't get grace or compassion, be it in our work lives, relationships, friendships, or family. People with endo, happy endometriosis awareness month.

Why Bree and their family needs your support to survive
First, l'd like to thank you for being here today and very grateful that you're interested in in helping Bree and their family survive.
Early November Bree was unfortunately diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, causing them to have debilitating tumor like symptoms.
So it's just as if they have a brain tumor in the spot where the extra cerebrum/spinal fluid and pressure is built up but without the physical tumor.
Not to mention before this diagnosis, Bree was already battling over 10 chronic illnesses hat all have no cure, including their new diagnosis. And they are more than exhausted and need chronic support from the community to continue living.
With the additional pressure being pressed on their pituitary gland, as well as their left optic nerve, they have already been showing signs of their health declining due to worsening vision and developing PCOS fibroids, uterine polyps, and ovarian cysts. They have learned that the cause of this is due to their birth control. They've been taking named 'Provera' as well as a combination of the marina IUD.
Bree is aware of the class action that's going on with Depo-Provera injection shot. Bree did not get the shot. They were taking the oral medication and doctors believe with the combination of that with of their IUD is why they are having the extra pressure built up.
Bree needs help regularly seeing their specialist as well as saving up for a surgery they'll be having in January 2025 to continue treatment of their chronic illnesses and hopefully alleviate some chronic pain they've been having daily
Their surgery could cause anywhere between 10,000 and 20,000. Where of course hoping for the least amount possible, but Bree can't go any longer without this procedure.

Blog 1: Chinese Medicine, Me & Food
“A chronic illness turns the patient into a good doctor.”
Chinese proverb
My Experience with traditional Western Medicine
In 2001, I had a complete hysterectomy because I had a seven-pound uterine fibroid. Then in 2002, a needle biopsy of my thyroid was too encased in scar tissue to get an exact diagnosis of the cause of my many symptoms. I had a total thyroidectomy, revealing that I had Hashimoto’s Disease. That surgery, along with thyroid medication, is supposed to end the Hashimoto’s symptoms, but it has not. Getting doctors to believe this to be true proves to be problematic. Their solutions come with risks and side effects I am unwilling to endure.
My Journey
Years of living with digestive issues and other “weird” symptoms has led me to researching and trying measures beyond traditional Western medicine. Therefore, I have been on a journey to become my own health advocate. I have read plenty of articles written by functional medicine practitioners as well as research results from scientific journals.
Over 40 years ago, I gave up alcohol and other mind- or mood-altering drugs. 30 years ago, I gave up coffee and switched to tea. About 15 years ago, I gave up gluten. A couple of years ago, I gave up dairy products other than fermented ones. I have several food and airborne allergies. I have lived on a personalized version of Autoimmune Paleo diet (AIP) for many years.
Where I am at Now
I have had periods of no digestive problems throughout these years. But they are back along with other unhealthy symptoms. Frankly, I am tired of giving stuff up! Since I have had success with acupuncture in the past, I decided to try a more comprehensive Chinese medicine approach. I have an upcoming appointment with an acupuncturist and met with her about Chinese medicine herbal remedies. She gave me many references to consult.
What I Will Share with You
I am going to take a Chinese medicine approach to my relationship to food. As I explore this path, I will share with you what I learn, what obstacles I encounter, and what appears to be working.
Please join me.

“In the early 1990s an "adventurous pediatric endocrinologist" in Amsterdam halted the puberty of a thirteen-year-old girl known as "B" by administering to her an off-label drug known as a gonad-otrophin-releasing hormone agonist, or GnRHa.(5) When administered to a child, it pauses the development of his or her secondary sex characteristics. For a girl, this means she will not experience normal breast development, menstruation, or typical fat distribution. A boy, meanwhile, will have lower muscle mass, less facial hair, decreased height, and his voice will not deepen.
At the time B received GnRHa, it was only used to chemically castrate male sex offenders and to treat prostate cancer. It has also been used to treat uterine fibroids and endometriosis in women-but for no longer than six months. Doctors also sometimes prescribed it to treat the rare condition of precocious puberty in children (when puberty begins before age eight in girls and before age nine in boys). However, such drugs were never approved for treating gender dysphoric children who were otherwise progressing naturally through puberty. After all, puberty is not a disease. In fact, the absence of puberty is a disease, known as Kallmann syndrome. When puberty blockers are given to healthy children, physicians are using drugs to induce a diseased state in the patient.”

Unraveling the Enigma: Exploring the Causes of Infertility in Men and Women
Infertility, a condition that affects millions of couples worldwide, can be a source of immense emotional distress and frustration. While there are numerous factors that can contribute to infertility, understanding its underlying causes is essential for effective diagnosis and treatment. In this article, we delve into the multifaceted causes of infertility in both men and women, shedding light on the complex interplay of biological, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
Causes of Infertility in Women
Ovulation Disorders: Irregular or absent ovulation can hinder conception. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), thyroid disorders, and premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) can disrupt the ovulation process.
Fallopian Tube Damage: Blockages or damage to the fallopian tubes can prevent the egg from reaching the uterus for fertilization. Previous pelvic infections, endometriosis, or surgery may contribute to fallopian tube issues.
Uterine Abnormalities: Structural abnormalities in the uterus, such as fibroids or polyps, can interfere with embryo implantation and development, leading to infertility.
Age-related Factors: As women age, the quantity and quality of their eggs decline, making conception more challenging. Advanced maternal age is a significant risk factor for infertility.
Causes of Infertility in Men
Low Sperm Count or Quality: Issues with sperm production, motility, or morphology can impair fertility. Factors such as hormonal imbalances, genetic conditions, and lifestyle choices (e.g., smoking, excessive alcohol consumption) can affect sperm health.
Varicocele: A varicocele, an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum, can lead to decreased sperm production and quality. It is a common reversible cause of male infertility.
Testicular Factors: Conditions such as undescended testicles, testicular trauma, or infections can impact sperm production and function, contributing to infertility.
Ejaculatory Disorders: Disorders affecting the ejaculation process, such as retrograde ejaculation or erectile dysfunction, can hinder the delivery of sperm during intercourse.
Seeking Help from a Male Fertility Doctor
For couples struggling with infertility, consulting a male fertility doctor, also known as a reproductive urologist or andrologist, can provide valuable insights and guidance. These specialists are trained to evaluate and treat male infertility issues, offering diagnostic tests, fertility evaluations, and personalized treatment plans to address underlying causes and improve reproductive outcomes.
Conclusion
Infertility can stem from a myriad of factors affecting both men and women. By understanding the potential causes of infertility and seeking specialized care from a male fertility doctor specialist, couples can embark on a journey towards achieving their dream of parenthood. With advancements in reproductive medicine and personalized treatment approaches, there is hope for overcoming infertility challenges and building a family.

How Advances in Ultrasound Technology Are Improving Gynecological Diagnosis
The field of gynecology has witnessed remarkable advancements in diagnostic tools, and ultrasound technology has been at the forefront of this evolution. Modern ultrasound machines offer unprecedented clarity, accuracy, and functionality, enabling gynecologists to diagnose and manage conditions with greater precision and less invasiveness.
Here’s How Ultrasound and Tech Innovations are Transforming Gynecological Diagnosis.
1. Enhanced Imaging Capabilities
One of the most significant advancements in ultrasound technology is improving imaging quality. High-resolution and 3D/4D ultrasound systems provide detailed visualizations of the reproductive organs, allowing gynecologists to identify abnormalities more accurately. For example, these advanced systems can detect uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and endometrial abnormalities at an earlier stage, improving the chances of successful treatment.
Furthermore, real-time imaging through 4D ultrasounds offers dynamic assessments, such as observing fetal movements or blood flow in the pelvic region. These features are particularly beneficial for monitoring high-risk pregnancies and complex gynecological conditions.
2. Doppler Ultrasound for Better Blood Flow Analysis
Doppler ultrasound technology has become a critical component of gynecological diagnostics. By measuring blood flow in the pelvic organs, Doppler ultrasounds can identify issues such as uterine artery abnormalities, placental insufficiency, or vascular complications in ovarian cysts. This technology is also crucial in assessing the health of the fetus during pregnancy, ensuring timely interventions when abnormalities are detected.
3. Minimally Invasive Diagnostic Approach
Ultrasound-guided procedures have transformed the way gynecologists perform diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. For instance, hysterosonography, a specialized form of ultrasound, uses saline infusion to provide clearer images of the uterine cavity. This technique aids in diagnosing conditions like uterine polyps or adhesions without the need for more invasive methods such as hysteroscopy.
Similarly, ultrasound-guided biopsies allow for precise tissue sampling with minimal discomfort, making them an indispensable tool for diagnosing gynecological cancers and other serious conditions.
4. Role in Reproductive Health and Fertility Treatments
Ultrasound technology plays a pivotal role in reproductive health. Transvaginal ultrasounds, for instance, are essential in evaluating ovarian reserves and tracking follicular development during fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Advanced ultrasound systems can also assess the endometrial lining, aiding in the timing of embryo transfers to maximize the chances of successful implantation.
5. AI Integration for Enhanced Diagnostics
Another groundbreaking development is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in ultrasound systems. AI-powered software can analyze ultrasound images and detect subtle abnormalities that might be missed by the human eye. This not only improves diagnostic accuracy but also reduces the time needed for evaluations, benefiting both gynecologists and patients.
6. Improved Patient Experience
The advancements in ultrasound technology have significantly improved the patient experience. Modern machines are designed to be more comfortable and less intimidating, reducing procedure anxiety. Faster imaging and analysis also mean shorter appointment times, enhancing patient convenience.
Paving the Way for Better Gynecological Care
Advances in ultrasound technology have transformed gynecological diagnostics, offering enhanced precision, safety, and comfort. With high-resolution imaging and AI-driven analysis, these innovations help gynecologists provide superior care and improve patient outcomes. As technology evolves, the future promises even greater advancements, ensuring women receive the best possible care. Consult a gynecologist today to experience these cutting-edge developments in women’s health.

Uterus removal surgery (hysterectomy) typically involves four main stages to ensure the procedure is smooth and successful. Here’s a brief overview of each stage:
Preoperative Preparation: Before the surgery, the patient undergoes a thorough evaluation, including blood tests, imaging (like ultrasound or MRI), and a physical examination. The doctor discusses the procedure, its risks, benefits, and recovery process. Fasting for 6–8 hours before surgery is usually advised.
Anesthesia Administration: Anesthesia is administered to ensure the patient remains comfortable and pain-free during the procedure. Depending on the type of surgery, either general anesthesia (patient unconscious) or regional anesthesia (numbing the lower body) is used.
Surgical Procedure: The uterus is removed using one of the following methods:
Abdominal Hysterectomy: An incision is made in the abdomen.
Vaginal Hysterectomy: The uterus is removed through the vagina.
Laparoscopic/Robotic Hysterectomy: Minimally invasive surgery with small incisions and specialized tools.
Postoperative Recovery: After the surgery, the patient is monitored in recovery for a few hours. Pain management, wound care, and gradual mobilization are part of the healing process. Full recovery typically takes 4–6 weeks, depending on the surgical method.
Each stage is crucial for ensuring a safe and successful uterus removal surgery.
Dr. Deepika Doshi, a gynecologist in Borivali, emphasizes the importance of specific precautions for uterus removal surgery to ensure a smooth procedure and recovery. Here are her key suggestions:
Pre-Surgery Precautions:
Medical Evaluation: Undergo a complete health check-up, including blood tests, ECG, and imaging scans, to assess overall fitness for surgery.
Medication Management: Inform your doctor about any ongoing medications, including blood thinners, which may need to be adjusted.
Dietary Precautions: Follow a light diet 24 hours before surgery and fast for at least 6–8 hours before the procedure.
Stay Hydrated: Drink sufficient water up to the allowed fasting time to stay hydrated.
Post-Surgery Precautions:
Wound Care: Keep the surgical site clean and dry to prevent infections. Follow your doctor’s instructions for dressing changes if needed.
Avoid Heavy Activities: Avoid lifting heavy objects or strenuous activities for at least 6 weeks to allow proper healing.
Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet rich in fiber, protein, and vitamins to promote recovery and prevent constipation.
Follow-Up Appointments: Attend all post-surgery check-ups to monitor healing progress and address any complications.
By following these precautions, Dr. Deepika Doshi ensures that patients undergoing uterus removal surgery experience minimal risks and a smooth recovery.

The importance of pelvic health for women’s gynecological well-being
A woman’s reproductive health, sexual function, and quality of life are all directly impacted by her pelvic health, making it a crucial component of her total wellbeing. Important organs like the uterus, bladder, and rectum are located in the pelvic region, as are the pelvic floor muscles that support them. Maintaining pelvic health avoids problems like prolapse, incontinence, and chronic pain and aids in the healthy operation of these organs.
Focusing on pelvic health is crucial in gynecology since it frequently aids in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous reproductive disorders. A woman’s health and quality of life can be significantly improved by early care and preventative measures.
Recognizing pelvic health
The healthy operation of the pelvic organs and associated muscles is referred to as pelvic health. Activities including urine, bowel movements, and sexual activity depend on these muscles and organs. These procedures run easily when the pelvic region is functioning properly. It boosts self-assurance and comfort.
Typical problems with reproductive health
Endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine fibroids, and pelvic organ prolapse are just a few of the numerous issues that can impact pelvic health. Pregnancy complications, infertility, or pain can result from these problems. Early detection and treatment of these illnesses is crucial since it lessens the impact they have on a woman’s life.
The importance of pelvic health
Avoiding pain or discomfort is simply one aspect of good pelvic health; another is enhancing general gynecological wellness. Maintaining the pelvic region helps avoid issues that can interfere with day-to-day functioning, such as persistent pelvic pain and incontinence. It is also essential for enhancing reproductive health and enhancing comfort.
Gynecological wellness and pelvic health
Pregnancy, menstruation, and sexual health all improve when pelvic health is maintained. Early treatment of pelvic health issues can enhance general wellbeing and avoid long-term difficulties. Gynecological problems can be better managed by raising awareness and offering individualized care.

Laparoscopy: Its Role in Gynecological Treatments
For women seeking reliable and expert care, Dr. Ankita’s Fertility Centre in Mumbai, has emerged as a trusted destination for laparoscopy and other advanced treatments.
What is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy, often referred to as keyhole surgery, is a procedure where small incisions are made in the abdomen to allow the insertion of a laparoscope — a thin tube with a camera and light. This technology enables doctors to view internal organs with precision and perform surgeries with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues. This approach significantly reduces recovery time, pain, and the risk of complications compared to traditional open surgeries.
Applications of Laparoscopy in Gynecology
Laparoscopy has transformed the way gynecologists diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions. Below are some common applications:
Diagnosis and Treatment of Endometriosis Endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, can cause severe pain and infertility. Laparoscopy allows for accurate diagnosis and removal of these lesions.
Management of Ovarian Cysts Persistent or large ovarian cysts may require surgical intervention. Laparoscopic cystectomy ensures the removal of cysts while preserving ovarian function.
Infertility Investigations For couples facing infertility, laparoscopy can identify issues such as blocked fallopian tubes or uterine abnormalities and provide corrective solutions in the same session.
Fibroid Removal (Myomectomy) Uterine fibroids can lead to heavy bleeding, pain, and infertility. Laparoscopic myomectomy enables the removal of fibroids with minimal impact on uterine integrity, making it ideal for women planning to conceive.
Hysterectomy When a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) is necessary, laparoscopy offers a less invasive option with faster recovery compared to traditional methods.
Treatment of Ectopic Pregnancy An ectopic pregnancy, where the embryo implants outside the uterus, can be life-threatening. Laparoscopic surgery is a safe and effective method to manage this condition.
Benefits of Laparoscopy in Gynecological Care
Minimally Invasive: Small incisions reduce scarring and promote faster healing.
Shorter Hospital Stay: Many procedures are completed as day-care surgeries or require only a short hospital stay.
Reduced Pain and Recovery Time: Patients typically experience less postoperative discomfort and can resume daily activities sooner.
Enhanced Precision: High-resolution visuals ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment.
