Great news! After a ton of work, I've got my business's 2024 Kickstarter up and running! It's live now until Sunday, November 17.

I have a lot of projects underway that this project will help me see to fruition, including:

Embroidery/historical costume kits with good materials and accessible instructions

A digital sewing pattern for what can be a partlet, if you're feeling nerdy, or a way to bring damn cool sleeves to whatever outfit you want if we're being modern about it

A system of patterns and stencils that bring intricate freehand Elizabethan embroidery down from (imo) terrifying complexity to an accessible art project

And/yet/also, I know myself. I am a bit of an ADHD chaos goblin with chronic pain. So I've learned from Kickstarters past, and made sure to center the campaign around rewards that I can be certain of delivering. That is, this campaign absolutely will include vouchers for free or discounted copies of those projects if they're funded and they happen! But I know they will take time and definitely not arrive by Christmas 2024.

Therefore: I've been designing a bunch of new items that I can be sure of! I wanted to be able to show off my embroidery patterns in new and interesting ways, and find different methods of fulfillment that are ready to roll out the moment the campaign ends and I get your shipping information.

Some of my most popular designs will be available as decorative stickers, paper bullet journal-style productivity stickers, and a mug!

There are a lot of others, and I'll probably detail more about them over the next week and a half, but it's past 4am so I'll keep this relatively short. The outlines are up on the Kickstarter. Here's the one I'm the most excited about:

I made the design myself, as the intersection of my obsessions with medieval celestial ceilings, sacred geometry, marine navigation, Tolkienian Elvish heraldry, and quilting. It's called "Mariner's Star", and I'm incredibly excited about it. If you don't know about jacquard looms and how they were 19th century punch card proto-computers, I think you're missing out.

We are calling this costume da Vinci’s Kid. I can’t believe we got it to work, we had so many challenges and dead ends on the wing action and the gear mechanism, but James would not let me give up and just cut eyeholes in a sheet. He believed we could figure it out. I love him very much and am so glad we are still making things together.

Post-election, I find myself a part of multiple communities that will struggle to access Healthcare under a 2nd Trump Administration.

As a result I am working on building my medical knowledge base as well as stocking up on physical supplies. I was wondering if you have any favorite resources to build Healthcare skills and knowledge aimed more towards community care.

I already have a decent handle on emergency medicine and basic wound care, but I'm struggling to find solid resources on how to fill the gaps left by a lack of access to GPs and even limited access to Emergency Departments.

The common advice I hear is to go to a professional when we are out of our depth, but my community is already low on safe professionals and the shortage is only going to grow. Any resources that are downloadable or available in hard copy are especially appreciated.

Thank you for all you do. I know it must be exhausting, but you are providing an invaluable resource.

I have a few resources you might look into.

The first is Where There Is No Doctor by David Werner. You can borrow the 2010 edition (there is a newer one I recommend you buy if you have the cash) from Internet Archive here. This is a healthcare handbook aimed at low-resource areas and is written in very plain language (and in a number of different languages) for anyone without a health background to understand.

The second is Where There is No Dentist by Murray Dickson. You can borrow it from Internet Archive here. Similar in concept to the previous book, this book is geared towards teeth and mouth problems.

The third, if you happen to have access to someone who happens to be a health professional but who isn't used to low-resource settings is Improvised Medicine by Kenneth V Iserson. It's a little pricier to buy than the first two, but you can borrow it from Internet Archive here.

The fourth is Barron's A Complete Guide to Home Nursing by Diana Hastings. You can borrow it from the Internet Archive here. Yes this is from 1986. Perhaps surprisingly, however, this is the most useful, complete, and accurate text on the subject I have found.

For context, OP did some posts mentioning the internationally exploitative nature of merch production for a lot of small creators, people got mad even though she's right, that is kind of a corpse-under-the-floorboards for that whole thing (And a lot of others, but that's its own issue)

And I've seen that sentiment talked about before, but what bothered me is that I never saw any alternatives beyond "Don't have merch," if only at least so one person I know involved in that could divest, so it's good to see otherwise and I wanna keep that train rolling!

So, if you have any good resources on how to DIY produce merch or even how to start building the infrastructure for larger ethical production, add it to the reblogs, or even just @ in someone you might know who might.

Or both, both is good! I'll start with the obvious one, The Crafsman, who has some good stuff on figure casting and jewelry making that're very relevant if you want to make some of those!
