@matmiraculous and I were talking about Fairly Odd Parents: A New Wish here recently and I accidentally stumbled across an AU/Fic idea that I may or may not do something with.

So here's a summary!

(Spoilers for the show ahead)

The background behind the idea is that Mat and I were talking about how Peri was not the right fairy for Dev (though I'm sure the writers have plans) given how he only just became a Godparent. We also talked about how Dev really needs someone more experienced and who will have the knowledge to help him.

So what if Wanda&Cosmo and Peri swapped kids?

Wanda and Cosmo never move the human world and therefore don't met Hazel. Peri is assigned to Hazel because Jorgen figures she would be an easy first kid for him.

Peri and Hazel have a pretty good relationship and Peri ends up being something of an older sibling and friend to her. Which is something she needs when missing her older brother. Their adventures are a mix of the same ones in cannon and ones that are completely different.

The two are just having fun together and going on little adventures. Peri also helps her a lot with adjusting to being in a new place and missing her older brother (both things he has experience with). At the same time Hazel also (a bit unknowingly) helps Peri figure out what kind of Godparent he wants to be.

A few weeks later Jorgen convinces (aka begs) Wanda and Cosmo to come out retirement and be Dev's fairy godparents after the last fairy assigned to him quit.

Dev tries to treat Wanda and Cosmo the same way he treats Peri in cannon but the two won't stand for it. They grant his wishes (as they're suppose too) but they (especially Wanda) won't let him insult or order them around.

That's not to say they are mean to Dev, they just take on a more firm and well... Parent-like approach to him. Wanda and Cosmo notice that Dev has never had much of a parental figure in his life like Timmy and are like "if his father isn't going to teach him to be a decent person, we'll do it!" Anyways, that's what's rolling around in my brain. I might write it, I might now (I got a lot of fics right now) but I think it would be fun to write little scenes or ramble about ideas I got.

UGHHH it hurts me thinking about how Peri could very much take after Timmy and also have a Huge diligence into not being like him. For one he's Snarky as HELL, he has comebacks to almost everything, which I wonder who else does that. Peri had to watch Timmy grow up with these awful parents and watch him basically be adopted into his family. Timmy made SO many loopholes, he made so many world-ending wishes, as well as him being the son of Cosmo and Wanda- two very infamous fairies who've been on trial more times than you can count. He didn't want to be like them or cause destruction; he just wanted to give some kid a bit more light in their world, like how he saw it with Timmy. The problem with Dev though was he needed someone like Cosmo and Wanda, he needed those fairies who were willing to bend the rules a bit, and form a close connection with their godkid. Peri was just too distant, he was too focused on being a Godparent he forgot that what Dev needed was a parent. Or at least some sort of adult-figure in his life that showed him care, which Peri (while he was trying his best!) was not rlly good at. This could be for a lot of reasons, but I really do think the underlying issue, was Timmy. Timmy was considered to be one of the best and worst godkids for christ sake, Do you really think Peri wants someone like that first go? or if he even know HOW to godparent like that! Cosmo and Wanda have been godparents for THOUSANDS of years, and yes while Timmy was unique to them, I'm sure them having been godparents to who knows how many kids helped with raising Timmy to be the best him he can be. (In my opinion, dev and hazel should have had their fairies swapped, but hey that's just a me thing). Peri had to loose a godkid that he got so, so attached too. It's not impossible that he just doesn't want to experience that type of attachment again, but for a kid like Dev, he kinda needs too. I want a scene where Peri opens up about Timmy to Dev, and explains how he's trying his best, and that he wants to be there for Dev idk :( I think that there's so much potential in the next season to directly explore the dynamic between Peri and Dev, while also reflecting upon Peri and Timmy! How without Timmy, Peri wouldn't be who he is today, he wouldn't go and be a Godparent, and how he would never replace his older brother, but that he also needs to learn about connection with other kids. Dev needs a Cosmo/Wanda in his life, he needs someone who while explains the rules, is able too loophole and teach Dev a lesson. Who pays attention to him, and sure not be a father, but be whatever he needs at that moment!

Once again pondering Peri & Dev's dynamic and I've come to the conclusion that I feel like the best end goal for them is just... ambiguous found family?

Dev really needs a proper family figure in his life, but Peri is most likely around 23 years old, way too young to be a dad. However, a brother figure is probably off the table too, as I feel Peri would be hesitant to declare himself another sibling, especially since Timmy isn't around to get to know Dev himself.

Ergo... ambiguous found family. Not every found family needs to have defined roles, and plenty don't. Peri doesn't need to be Dev's father or brother, he can just be family and be there for him like any family member would. No need for names, just the feelings.

Lost in Fairyworld is next and I’m so excited Dev is back!!!!!!

Two episodes in a row with no intro I’m dying. I need the intro dang it!!

I love Wanda’s chocolate obsession is shown in this show. Kind of hilarious watching everyone but Hazel devouring chocolate lolz. Ohhh I don’t love the talking gut is back nope I don’t. Hazels obsession with fries though is relatable. Wonder why Peri is also chilling with them. Maybe it’ll pull Dev in somehow?

Oh no Dev is here he’s just enchanted with Fairyworld. Cannot blame him one bit for that. I wonder why though they’re all over at Cosmo and Wanda’s this is clearly their first time hanging out since the museum since Wanda and Cosmo are taking pictures and stuff so what brought them together? I get it was yadda yadda past for times sake but I want to know! Peri I don’t think you need to be worried Dev is way to enthralled with Fairyworld to even notice what is happening. DEVS ON HIS TIPPY TOES DEV STOP BEING SO CUTE!!

I also cannot tell if Dev is meant to be crying from how amazing it is or if it’s just the window reflection.

Actually I think it’s years and that is genuinely so wholesome. Normalize boys crying when they have strong emotions it’s okay and normal and not weak or whatever.

Wait Dimmadone look? Thats a thing? Cute that Hazel seems to know Dev so well though. Sad that his dad has screwed him up so badly though. Like just thinking about it what kind of a father is Dale that it’s a family thing that’s known to be a thing for the whole family? Also kind of sad Hazel doesn’t even try to properly talk to Dev and assumes what he’s going to do.

How did Dev pop up beneath Peri? How did he do that lolz. I do feel bad for Peri here, he doesn’t even get to answer Dev before Cosmo and Wanda jump in for him. It is funny Dev is glaring at Wanda who is focused on Peri while Cosmo is just vibing happy to be there.

It’s such a family dynamic I kind of love it. Regardless good on Peri for trying to set boundaries with his parents. Lolz Peri just saying what his parents said.

I wonder if Cosmo and Wanda got flashbacks to Timmy when Dev made that wish lolz. I’m surprised there isn’t a rule in Da Rules about this though if they don’t want kids in Fairy World on the regular now. I love Devs unamused smile here though. I do also love that he seems to have ditched the sunglasses again.

I was just wondering why Peri and Dev have avoided any testing and it was on Jorgans list until Cosmo changed that I love it lolz. Jorgan are you really not going to question the run meaningless errands on your list? Really?

Aww Hazel and Dev look so happy. Wanda why would you tell them about the forbidden place and tempt them with it and not tell them why it’s forbidden??? Nice callback though to the Og show. Wanda and Cosmo keep cutting off Peri, they need to let Peri be a godparent because them jumping in will just undermine Peri. Course Peri could use more parenting techniques cuz what Dev desperately needs is a parental figure in his life.

Oh no the sunglasses are back on when Dev decides to do a bad thing. Wait did the fairies really turn their back on the kids who want to break rules? Did they really do that? HAZEL WHY ARE YOU HELPING AND NOT SAYING ANYTHING? Dev are you really not worried about the talking gut really? Hazel you really are going along with this?

Peri why would you ask Dev if it’s under control? He’s never going to agree.

Wait wait Dev why did you grab a different wand when you had one already? Eh whatever.

Oh my gosh Dev and Hazel goofing off and playing and having fun is so cute I genuinely love it. I did notice another weird thing? So Dev has his glasses on but after he’s unfrozen the glasses kind of awkwardly vanish from his face. Was it supposed to be the wand that unfroze him poofed them away? It’s not super clear and kind of awkward and I watched it a few times to try and figure out what happened and am still confused.

Wait trackers on wands? Why? How does that even work? Wanda don’t announce that he will come back haven’t you learned from the last time? Lolz Jorgan announcing he’s back. I have a feeling he doesn’t see them though.

Hazel and Dev having fun around fairy world is so genuinely cute and wholesome I love it so much.

Uhh I was wrong Jorgan did notice. Theirs a tracker for detecting if people are up to no good? I have questions. Oh Peris panick is so relatable though. I know in the OG show Peri had cute moments with Jorgan I wonder if he feels close with Jorgan thus more stress about being “perfect” and getting it right?

Jorgan shouldn’t you be more concerned with miscounting wands and lack of children over mail??! Relatable though about post office closing when you need them but why does Fairy World need a post office? Can’t they just…poof things where they need to be?

Wanda you need to calm down. Why are you dumping this on Peri this is his first godkid. It’s all support and love until things go wrong isn’t it? Wanda why is that on your itinerary?

Aww Dev looks so happy here with Hazel. How often does this kid get to hang out with other kids? I doubt much.

Oh no this is going to go bad isn’t it? Oh huh not how I expected them to wind up there for sure. Why would Dev saying that send them there? I know this is where unwished wishes go but….they wherent a wish? I’m confused. Wait is that the fishbowl from Timmy’s room?

Is that just a cheeky Easteregg or should I be reading more into this?

Umm kiddo? Hazel priorities did you miss the eat part???? Kind of funny though the dragon is scared of Jorgan which you know. Fair can’t argue. BUT MAYBE YOU GUYS SHOULD RUN???

I do love how they just poofed away and Jorgan is not following up on this at all even remotely. Good on Cosmo and Wanda for admitting they overstepped and also good on Peri for also admitting he failed. They are the adults here, these are kids in a magical realm you got distracted and lost them.

Not the fucking gut again.

Everyone looks to Dev who doesn’t take any responsibility and…puts on the glasses again. No trying to teach him or talk to him just. Ends on a “funny” moment.

Great episode really had fun but I just wish we saw any effort from Peri to try and talk with Dev and like parent him cuz clearly Dale has not parented this kid in any capacity and if he’s never been parented or taught about responsibility he’s not going to just magically get it overnight. It takes time and patience and the show just doesn’t seem to be bothered to try with him writing him off instead.

I know it’s supposed to be “funny” but the joke doesn’t land when I know what this is building to and instead of even trying to engage with Dev in any meaningful way he’s being discarded again. Peri is so focused on being a “good” godparent he can’t see what Dev needs is a parental figure to help guide him and help him mature and well as I’ve discussed before the other adults in his life have given up on him despite being a literal 9 year old it’s painful to watch. He hasn’t even hit double digits yet but he’s already been tossed aside.

I almost went on another rant but I need to save that for my part 2 Dev analysis and focus on getting through the season lolz. Onto the next one!!
