I've seen so many awesome takes on Desmond Sycamore's dead wife on here! Making her really cool or making the wife a husband instead... I love seeing it all.

I happen to have my own dead wife OC that I really adore and have just been. Nervous?? To talk about?? I made her with a friend of mine. I laid out her story and personality and it made her initial designs.

This is my attempt at making a Layton sprite of her (I could do better. Am I gonna? Probably not). Her name is Cecilia!! I LOVE Cecilia. She makes me very happy.

Personally, I always saw Desmond (and Descole you know how it is) as gay. And he still is to me. Cecilia is AroAce. Their relationship and marriage is purely platonic. A lavender marriage. They adore each other, they're best friends, but there's no romance between them. Their marriage winds up being like a shield to protect each other considering the times.

She comes from a more well off family, living in a beautiful area by the Thames. She was an opera singer, a soprano, prima Donna of her opera house. She also had great appreciation for marine life, having a passion for the ocean and sea creatures. She cares for some little jellyfish that she absolutely adores.

Cecilia died due to Targent. After getting a No from Desmond on joining them, she tried to sacrifice herself in order to give Desmond and their daughter Carlotta a chance to escape.

Thinking about the Bronev family again, I hope this is coherent-

(Cw non graphic mentions of child death, Azran Legacy spoilers ahead)

Leon Bronev, a man who was likely once a good ordinary man gets kidnapped along with his wife, leaving behind their two young children because he’d found something big about the Azran (did that make it his fault? Did he blame himself?). He loses his wife while there (I’m partial to the headcanon that it wasn’t just a normal sickness) and endures who knows what other hells while stuck in that cult for decades, ending up with nothing left but the Azran.

He turns down darker and darker paths going on some twisted version of a sunk cost fallacy (he’s gone this far already, why not go further?) until he either knowingly or unknowingly orders the murder of his granddaughter and daughter in law. Then he does it, he completes his goal, he solves the last puzzle of the Azran only for all of it to have been for nothing. Then he dies for it, but is revived with the rest and thus being unable to pay with his life. He’s arrested, likely too old at this point to hold out any hope of making amends or fixing what he’s done.

Hershel Bronev, still a young child when his parents are stolen from him and he’s left with caring for his younger brother. Then they get news that he’s going to be adopted alone, that he’d have to leave Theodore behind. Instead of that, he gives up this better life and his name, giving it all to his little brother who he wouldn’t see again for decades. He becomes Desmond Sycamore

He grows up devouring his father’s archeology books, to find a way to get some kind of revenge on the ones who stole his family from him. Instead he finds peace, he finds a new family, people who love him and people he loves the same. But it doesn’t last. Targent comes again to steal his family away, this time with his own Father at the head. Desmond Sycamore dies and he becomes Jean Descole.

But despite now loathing Targent, hating his father, he follows in their footsteps. Threatening loved ones, manipulating people, even attempting to kill a child (Luke was only 10 the first time Descole had tried to kill him), all so he could be the one to uncover the Azran. He becomes like his father in more than just appearance, but does he even realise this?

He’s put on many different faces before, but he pulls Desmond from his grave to use as a mask for what should be his final trick. He meets his brother again, but he’s the only one who knows it. Throughout their journey, he almost finds that peace again, but he knows it won’t last, he won’t be tricked again. He goes forth with his plan, revealing himself attempting to claim the sanctuary for himself.

But then he jumps in front of a laser for Luke, sacrificing himself for the boy he’d attempted to kill on more than one occasion (Maybe Desmond Sycamore still existed somewhere inside him…) On what would be his deathbed, he tells his rival of their connection, of them being blood. Then they leave to confront Bronev, he should have died but he couldn’t, not yet. He drags himself to final chamber, dying and being revived with the rest of them before disappearing, leaving loose ends untied. Now Descole has no reason to exist either. Who is he?

Then There’s Theodore Bronev, but that wasn’t his name anymore. He was given his brothers first name, given his new parents’ last name, he was Hershel Layton, he has been for most of his life.

He endures tragedy after tragedy, not even remembering the first, but he doesn’t let that change him. He loses his best friend (loses the rest of the Stansbury gang), his partner (then a month in a coma) and even when he remembers his lost family, he stays a good man, a true gentleman.

I don’t know how to end this, just wish I could add a section on Rachel but we know so little about her ugh

So they met possibly because of archeology, maybe the were both part of an excursion or something and hit it off there

He finds out she’s a mechanic and they got talking about machinery and other stuff because their both nerds

The two of them stay in contact after it’s finished, sending letters to each other from wherever they live at that point because it’s a long distance relationship

They meet again due to like a huge celebration thing to do with a huge discovery and the machines that helped find it

It ends up with a really drunk night spent together and just going back to desmonds apartment and just nerding out even more because they are fucking goofs

It ends with a kiss and then them falling asleep on top of each other

The romantic relationship starts a few months afterwards

His wife moves in with him and they end up working quite close with each other becoming quite the power couple due to the amount of work and effort they put into everything

Their living a happy life together and Des is happy for once.

Fast forward a few years later, Targent has become a more prominent problem since Des is going after the Azaran more frequently now

His wife is pregnant with their daughter and she’s worried for him because he’s not only stressing himself out but her too

He’s stopped communicating as frequently and just buried himself in research and work

They have a huge argument which then splits them apart for a few months and ironically their brought back together by the baby

They name her Nemona, she’s a mix of her parents but has more of her fathers features then her mothers

Then Nemona is five? and Targent (specifically bronev) in a show of power and decides to kill them both to show what could happen to Desmond if he doesn’t leave his research to them

That’s how Jean Descole is born, out of grief and anger he vows to recover the azaran himself and avenge his wife

Making these machines to honour her work and what could have been for her and their daughter

Basically he uses her to fuel the twisted ideas of justice

So this is something I’ve been working on for the past week or so (it was the sketch that took the longest, I only did colors today and was done way quicker)

I was listening to “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men, and it made me think of Des and his wife, as if the female voice was his and the male voice was her ghost

I was tempted to put in lyrics to the song in the drawing or description, but I thought that might have been too silly. Maybe I’m being too paranoid though. But I would have put in the bridge part of the lyrics

I actually do artworks based on songs I listen to and the vibe they give me, but I usually don’t finish them because I get sidetracked. But I might post whatever few I’ve actually finished if want to see them

But yeah, enjoy some angst with Des and his wife

They met in University!! They had no classes in common, why would they. Desmond was going for archeology and took some engineering classes while Cecilia was there for music, taking marine biology classes where she could. Not many classes that would fit within both of their necessities besides some prerequisites.

Desmond wasn't exactly. Social. He's focused entirely on his studies, they're all that matter to him. He has no one except perhaps Raymond. He misses Theodore, he never got over that. He never made friends, not exactly being the easiest person to get alone with and it's not like he was trying.

One day he went to go study somewhere quiet, there was a little space outdoors he liked to go. Away from everyone else. If he didn't need resources in the library, that was the best place to go. It had a little creek nearby. And Cecilia happened to be there singing, enjoying the water.

Desmond tried to study but she was distracting. He asked her to maybe not. Go sing in one of the practice rooms or be quiet. But that's just him being irritable. She wasn't having that. She was calm and reasonable. She had every right to be there too. Desmond's stupid and he fell into the water 💙💙

After that she'd go sit with him when studying from time to time if he'd allow it, always asking first. She's lonely, he's lonely, she recognized that. Initially he'd shoo her away. Slowly he started to accept that someone apparently had to be around him and eventually he'd actually talk to her about his studies when she'd ask.

From there he warmed up to her some and they wound up befriending each other. Couple times they stood up for each other while still warming up.

Jean Discole: (Via @mistresshasty; tw kidnapping)

Saw his parents kidnapped. Violently. Then he was left alone with his kid brother to report this to the police when he's all of 8yo. This man's name isn't even Jean Descole. Descole is an alter ego for his other alter ego, Desmond Sycamore. Why? Because he GAVE HIS NAME AWAY to his younger brother so said younger brother could be adopted in his place after their parents were kidnapped. Like legit, people came and said they could only adopt one kid and Descole straight up said, yup, my kid brother, this is Hershel, not me, nope (shut up Theo, you're Hershel now.)

Then fast forward to adulthood where he's finally healing some of the Trauma, only for his wife and daughter to die mysteriously (though its heavily implied it was by the same people who kidnapped his parents.) Then, as he's getting his revenge on that organization, guess what? The leader is his long lost father who went crazy after his wife (Descole's mom) died in captivity. Descole has 0 chill because he has had 0 breaks in life.

Oh, and one last kick in the face. The titular character of the series, and Descole's arch nemesis, Professor Layton, yeah, that's the kid brother Descole gave up his future for. He deserves to be a dramatic bitch. He's earned it.
