I just typed up a HUGE profile on Marcy Kane, an obscure character from Peter Parker's past. Let's do a shotgun run of some more blink and you'll miss them Spidey women.
Up there is Dawn Starr, she was one of Pete's students when he taught part time at ESU. He knew it was wrong to get involved with her, did it anyway, then got super self righteous when he found out she was using him to cheat. The sexual politics of it ain't great!
Tumblr media
Next is Sandy Jones who works in editorial for the Daily Globe. She's in 2 issues and she's gone.
Tumblr media
Here's Desiree Vaughn-Pope who looks exactly like Yvonne Strahovski to me. She's a just a red herring for the identity of Belladonna.
Tumblr media
Turns out Belladonna is really Desiree's sister Narda Ravanna.
NARDA RAVANNA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we go with Mia Carrera. She only ever had 4 ever appearances, but Spidey felt strong enough about to give her the key to his apartment. (how was your identity ever a secret?)
Tumblr media
In Amazing Spider-Man #213 who is so hot that Pete's brain turns to pudding. Just a complete meltdown. He doesn't even ask her name.
Tumblr media
After their apartment building get's blown up the city moves them to a new one (???) and she comes over to watch TV. Still no name.
Tumblr media
PETE! YOU SHOULD ASK GIRLS THEIR NAMES! YOU IDIOT!
Tumblr media
"Surely by NOW you have at least guessed--" Babe, you shut off the one brain cell Pete had. He didn't guess shit.

Came home from a New Year's hang out to find Professor Juniper having trouble breathing. Please consider donating to my GoFundMe for her care and hopefully long life:
She's an incredibly sweet kitten and, if her slight popularity means anything, make it mean we can fund this fucking fundraiser.
Here's a video of her in an oxygen cage. It's the only reason she can fucking breathe right now.
If you do not want to pay money towards the GoFundMe, you can use any of the following method:
Venmo/CashApp: Desiwantscash
(Edited - Finally fixed the link and added alternative donation methods)

Desiree: Do you and Greg kick it? Like, you know what he's into? Ed: [...] I think I have an insight into what he definitely enjoys. Desiree: So you know that when he said the thing about having sex with Alex's body and Rosie Jones's face, that wasn't a political answer. That was his true heart. Ed: That was 100% the truth. Desiree: OK. Ed: Yeah, yeah. I think he wants that deep down.

A Birthday Tribute to Stephen Sondheim
We interrupt your regularly scheduled Diva posts and polls with a 24-hour Stephen Sondheim lockdown to recognize an honorary Broadway Diva and certified musical theatre god.
Tumblr media
Stephen Joshua Sondheim (1930) was a legendary composer and lyricist who essentially reinvented the American musical with his soaring scores and fiendishly clever lyrics. With Oscar Hammerstein as his mentor, he began his Broadway career writing lyrics for West Side Story (1957) and Gypsy (1959). Throughout his life, he won eight Tony Awards, including a Special Tony, more than any other composer. His dedicating to writing fascinating, flawed, fantastic roles for women (particularly women of a certain age) means his work is some of the most sought-after of our Divas.
Sondheim Theatre and Concert Credits:
I have done the research and pulled together a list of every single role our Divas have played, and every Sondheim concert they have participated in. Here are just a few takeaways.
All together, 64 Divas have had a whopping 245 roles/concerts and counting.
Eleven Divas have never (to my knowledge) performed in a Sondheim or at a Sondheim-specific concert. Seven of those are non-singing actresses, leaving just four musically-inclined Divas bereft. (Brenda Braxton, Lillias White, Linda Eder, Ute Lemper). However, all four Divas have performed Sondheim's songs in their personal concert repertoires
Eighteen Divas have done just one Sondheim, some in particularly obscure contexts.
The most common roles are The Witch (Into the Woods - 9), Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd - 8), Mama Rose (Gypsy - 8), Desiree Armfeldt (A Little Night Music - 8), Phyllis Rogers Stone (Follies - 6). More on that later.
Most Frequent Sondheim Performers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bernadette Peters: 21 Highlights include: Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Follies, Gypsy.
Patti LuPone: 20 Highlights include: Company, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, Anyone Can Whistle.
Marin Mazzie: 13 Highlights include: Passion, Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, Anyone Can Whistle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Audra McDonald: 11 Highlights include: Sweeney Todd, Passion, Six by Sondheim, A Little Night Music.
Donna Murphy: 11 Highlights include: Passion, Into the Woods, Anyone Can Whistle, Follies.
Christine Baranski: 11 Highlights include: Company, Sunday in the Park with George, Sweeney Todd, Follies.
Tony Awards and Nominations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leading Actress in a Musical: 14 Nominations (exc. wins) | 5 Divas 9 Wins | 4 Divas
Mama Rose in Gypsy is the most-decorated role in musical theatre canon, and arguably the best role for women period. In five productions, every actress has either been nominated (Ethel Merman, Bernadette Peters), or won (Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Patti LuPone).
Both Desiree Armfeldt actresses have won their respective years (Glynis Johns, Catherine Zeta-Jones). Additional winning roles have been Phyllis Rogers Stone (Alexis Smith), Mrs. Lovett (Angela Lansbury), The Baker's Wife (Joanna Gleason), and Fosca (Donna Murphy).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Featured Actress in a Musical: 17 Nominations (exc. wins) | 4 Divas 4 Wins | 1 Diva
Some of the most common roles to be nominated for in a Sondheim show are Amy and Joanne from Company (in the original production, Elaine Stritch competed in Leading Actress), and Louise in Gypsy. No featured role has netted more than one award.
Winners: Patricia Elliott (Charlotte, ALNM), Laura Benanti (Louise, Gypsy), Karen Olivo (Anita, West Side Story), and Patti LuPone (Joanne, Company).

A grandmother in Ohio is facing a felony assault charge after admitting to intentionally shooting her six-month-old granddaughter in the eye.
Mia Desiree Harris, 43, pled guilty on Tuesday to the assault charge, according to Law&Crime. She also faced two charges relating to assaults of other family members but both of those were dismissed following her plea.
The violence unfolded in the early hours of December 9 last year. Police responded to a report in Liberty Township, 25 miles north of Cincinnati, that an infant had been shot at around 1:50am. A woman on the phone told a 911 operator that β€œmy baby’s been shot, my baby’s been shot,” according to WXIX.
The 911 operator then asked the woman to confirm that her baby has been shot. β€œYes,” she says. οΏ½οΏ½Lord please save my baby.”
Responding officers found the child with a gunshot wound to the head. Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones told WXIX at the time that the child had been shot through the eye.
The infant was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but survived and is on the road to recovery, according to Journal-News.
The sheriff’s office said that Harris also allegedly hit and shot at several family members before β€œintentionally shooting the child.”
A law enforcement incident report alleged that Harris was so determined to enter the room where her granddaughter was sleeping that she fired multiple shots through a wooden door and then broke down it’s splintered remains to get to the child.
Detective Daniel Turner provided further context during a preliminary hearing in 2023. After breaking into the room, Harris shot the child’s mother in the head β€” the bullet narrowly grazed her skull, he said, according to WCPO β€” and then shot the child. Harris then lifted the child off the bed and smiled as she handed the infant to its wounded mother.
Harris fled the scene before deputies arrived but witnesses identified her to law enforcement. She was located and taken into custody shortly after the incident.
When the woman was asked why she wanted to shoot the child, she told deputies: β€œThat was not my grandbaby. Sorry, not sorry,” WCPO reported.
She then said that her family was β€œtrying to take all of her money and then leave,” and insisted that she β€œwas not going to allow that to happen.”
Sheriff Jones told local broadcaster WXIX that he could see no possible justification for what occurred.
β€œIt wasn’t an accident. It was on purpose. This is one of the most disgusting, vile criminal acts I’ve ever seen, shooting a 6-month-old baby. What makes it even worse is this is the baby’s grandmother,” he said. β€œShe went and shot this child and doesn’t appear to have any remorse whatsoever. I feel sorry for the baby, the family, everybody that’s dealing with this … this is as bad as it gets.”
Harris is being held in Butler County Jail on a $1.5million bond. The maximum penalty for a first-degree felony assault in Ohio is 11 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

A Letter to Writers who are Parents
Tumblr media
Can you successfully write while also being a parent? NaNo Participant Desiree S. Brown confidently says yes, you can do both. Desiree offers heartfelt words of inspiration to other author-parents out there. My eyes were heavy with sleep as I plodded over to my son’s crib. I remember holding him in a state of awe, but I was also terrified. I hadn’t written in monthsβ€”not from lack of tryingβ€”and had just emerged from a digital rabbit hole.
Desperate for pointers from seasoned author-parents, I asked Google, β€œHow do authors write while raising kids?”
I expected encouragement, but found Lauren Sandler’s essay The Secret to Being Both a Successful Writer and Mother: Have Just One Kid and Cyril Connolly’s famous quote: β€œThere’s no more somber enemy of good art than the pram in the hall.”
You can write and be a parent.
Many authors opted out of parenthood, believing each birth cost them a book. Doris Lessing, for example, had abandoned her children with their father in favor of her writing career.
It’s heartbreaking, but untrue. Zadie Smith, Toni Morrison, Jodi Picoult, Ursula K. Le Guin, Sarah Manguso and other authors managed to have successful careers while raising children. Manguso wrote in The Grand Shattering:
I used to believe that maximizing the number of hours reading, writing, and thinking about writing would make me the best writer I could be, and that my friend who had chosen to have three children just didn’t value being a writer as much as I did. Then I had a child and found that the amount of time I spend writing isn’t the only thing that makes me a better writer. I also grow by weathering trauma, practicing patience, being seasoned by love.
Parenting will help you grow as a writer.
Many author-parents noted an enrichment in their writing. In his essay, The Pram in the Hall, Shane Jones wrote, β€œI’ve discovered many writer-fathers who not only continued to produce work, but produced work that is richer and more interesting because of their fatherhood.”
New life moments create powerful experiences and what is storytelling, poetry, or essays but the exploration of those experiences? Parenting shaped me and my writing in a way that childlessness couldn't. I’ve learned to be more empathetic and honest with my time management (why didn’t I write during my son’s two hour nap?).
Jodi Picoult learned to be β€œhyper-aware of relationships between people,” Jane Smiley’s kids exposed her to new ideas by forcing her into the world, and Maggie O’Farrel learned β€œto concentrate with the intensity of a telekinetic.”
You’re not neglectful for prioritizing writing or parenting.
There’s a constant tug of war within writer-parents, not to mention the crushing weight of social expectations: writers need silence at all times and parents prioritize their kids.
But that's an unrealistic standard that will ruin any parent’s mental health, resulting in a loss of self, depression, and frustration. O’Farrel writes:
Don’t feel guilty about taking time to write. Guilt is no use to you here. Throw yourself headlong into whatever is in front of you, whether it’s writing or doling out small bowls of pasta or making potato prints. It’s good for your children to have a fulfilled parent, not a frustrated one. A child witnessing their parent working and being gratified by that work is an excellent lesson for them.
So, what’s the answer to the big question? How do authors write while raising kids?
They do it like anyone else: stealing time between diaper changes and naps; juggling housework, parent-work, and writer-work as best as they can; and realizing that they have the potential to create a fulfilling writing career like anyone else.
That’s the answer I will carry with me into Camp NaNo, the next project, and beyond.

With the popularity of Professor Juniper's famous whiskers, decided I wanted to try one of these polls to see how well Tumblr could make a cat! I'll do my best to draw the results!
After some silliness maybe consider donating to Professor Juniper's Fundraiser!
We JUST picked her up from the Vet Hospital. I'm literally waiting in the pharmacy to get her a prescription while my husband sits with her in a back office letting her roam a bit. She's been couped up for two days and gods she feels so small.
Tumblr media
Y'can't quite see it, but she literally has the worst haircut right now, including one new "boot" on her right side where she had an IV.
Ope! Got a second picture with her "boot"!
Tumblr media
She's not out of the woods yet. We're going to monitor her breathing, giver her a supplement, and have her on a low weight diet until her check up on Wednesday.
There is a chance she'll still need the surgery, so let's all do our best to keep supporting her!

How did you go about naming/giving parentage to Uma's crew?
Unfortunately the answer to this one is boring. XD
I just went through tough sounding/pirate-y/sea related names for the pirate crew (and the related long list of kids I made for them xD).
Parentage wise, I usually don't give out named villains for VKs parents. Realistically, the big names are outnumbered by a huge margin by henchmen, army members, crew members, and other assorted minions. I also got the impression that Uma's crew (with the exception of Harry) was considered 'not worth very much' on the Isle and having 'no name' parents helped with that. So most of the pirates are descended from nameless minions. Look, Important Villain Parents are at a premium, I can't give them out like candy.
The exceptions are the canon ones (Uma, Harry, Gil), Uma's dad being Barbossa because I wanted her dad to be a pirate and after watching the movies I thought she was more like Hector than Davy Jones. Desiree was the daughter of Shan-Yu because I figured those three couldn't be the ONLY ones on the crew with an Important Villain Parent and because so much of my original ideas for her were wrapped up in rebelling against her dad. Drey (blonde girl with a prosthetic hand on Uma's crew) was originally just sold to Sykes by her parents to cover their debts but I thought it might add an interesting wrinkle if there was some ambiguity there. Like, is she his daughter or not? At the end of the day, he never acted like it but still, it'd be nice to know. That's how a lot of the kids ended up with their parents. I'd want a specific situation or a talent to make sense and fleshed the character out that way. That's how Malachi ended up the son of a couple of Chernabog's demons, I wanted an explanation for his natural ability to pick up languages. I think the only other one with an Important Villain Parent is Ax, and that one was decided by a poll. So, out of the crew, only 6 out of 35 have villain parents with a name.
