There's something at the tip of my tongue about the parallels between Jackie and Wilson and Who We Are
How the narrator of Jackie and Wilson wants to run away with a woman that he's carved out of his imagination based on a brief interaction. How they would try the world, but good god it wasn't for them. So they run away from it into a fantasy world where they live by their own rules.
And then comes the narrator of Who We Are, who dreamt his whole life of finding someone who would hold him like water or like a knife, only to find that running away from the world will only get them so far, since "the hardest part is who we are". And only to find out that the "phantom life" he's fantasized about is actually just that: a phantom. And its absence sharpens like a knife

Housemate is working on a major strike against our HOA (which has since the 90s essentially been run by one particular wealthy landlord who doesn't even live in the neighborhood) at the next board meeting, using the power of Robert's Rules Of Order; so he bought himself a copy on the Internet to study up Apparently he thought it was like 200 pages long (turns out it's much longer than 200 pages), so he was saying he had a slog ahead of himself.
Me: Look at it this way, it's shorter than the average Stephen King novel.
Him: That's... true, I guess?
Me: It's also more useful to your plans than the average Stephen King novel!
Him: Not necessarily.
Me: ...how would the average Stephen King novel help you defeat the homeowner's association?
Him: [increasingly evasive] Inspirational material! Or something. I dunno.
Me: Wh -- do you think you're gonna Dolan's Cadillac this shit? YOU ARE NOT DOLAN'S CADILLACKING THIS SHIT.

The meteor storms are gorgeous but terrifying.
Today started out frustrating but ended on a good note. Base building was going very slowly while Kel went on a fruitless argy search. We finally called it quits on both and went after some gatherers.
Found a 125 mammoth just outside the snow dome, we killed off a couple nasties and got her separated from her group without too much trouble and got her knocked out. I stayed to watch her while Kel kept looking for argies, then we had An Incident where her ptero ran out of stam right in the middle of a corrupted area. The mammoth had just tamed at that point so I ran to help, though all I could do was whistle the ptero out of there when Kel got booted off and killed. I managed to draw the bad stuff away, then got her ptero back to base so we could get her stuff back.
Went poking in the desert dome after that and found a bunch of baby-ish doedics, we settled on a 75 and got her tamed. And while we waited, some stegos were nice enough to kill a couple carnos so we could claim a level 85 baby, so once he's grown and leveled some we'll have a nice fighter. \o/
Also found a few sheep with babies, so we have a mutton stockpile and can save our remaining kibble for the herbivores.
Base building will go much faster now, we had to log off for a mod update but we'll finish the build first thing tomorrow and then go look for argies again and some snow owls. \o/

📦6, 16 🤝4, 10, 20 💓6, 14 for. molly.
6. What is something your character is proud to own?
Eyeliner Parker stole from Tess for her. None of them really own much because they have to smuggle everything they want in and it's been years since they've really had the chance, so the one (1) little tube of eyeliner Tess brought in for herself (Which Parker then promptly stole both to fuck with her and to give to Molly) is basically the only thing of note Molly actually owns for now. Tess willingly let her have it after it got revealed as having been stolen (All Molly knew was that Parker had it and was giving it to her, it's only later that Tess is gonna give Parker a firm punch in the arm for stealing her shit, before promptly telling Molly she can keep it)
16. Is your character willing to ask for things?
Yeah, but if she doesn't get a response or if it doesn't happen, she's not bringing it up again. She'll ask for something once and just hope the other person gets it for her, but if they don't, then she's 100% going to pretend like she never said anything. Doesn't want to be a burden, after all!
4. Is your character upfront about their feelings?
A good bit, but at her core she tends to very much be a people pleaser, so while she's open about her emotions, certainly a lot more than the people around her, she's not always willing to be upfront about them, especially if they're negative. She wants to be though, and she's trying to work on it!
10. Is there a habit your character has that they learned from someone else?
It's not necessarily any specific habit, but Parker's attitude absolutely rubbed off on her at least a little bit. Her willingness to cause trouble, while still very low, since she doesn't actually want to inconvenience people, is higher than it was before, and she's more willing to just look the other way when Parker is causing trouble. She would've looked away before, but the difference before was that she was a bit too timid to do anything, as opposed to now, where she's willingly let it happen. Also, skipping work. She keeps skipping work and it's entirely Parker's fault. Rest in peace Molly's notable work ethic
20. What would it take for your character to get into a fight?
A lot, but it's happened. Twice. Once in the direct aftermath of Parker's desertion, when one of the other soldiers is being shitty about it. They're being callous and cruel, saying how it's a good thing Parker ran off, because she was weighing down the entire camp anyways, and frankly Molly should've expected this, given her poor behavior and terrible attitude! To which Molly's response is to punch them square in the nose. She's literally JUST gotten dumped in the most cruel and heartbreaking fashion she can POSSIBLY IMAGINE and absolutely can not stand someone giving her shit for it. She's actively in grief over this she's not going to listen to someone imply she was stupid for ever having loved her.
The second time is... the same person. Doing basically the same thing. When all of the remaining soldiers left the outpost due to being overrun by sanitized soldiers, they, being led by Tess, had managed to board the Deepsea Metro, and while they were always somewhat suspect of it, felt like they had really no other choice, as it was the metro, or going back into the overrun sewers they just came from. However, things go very bad after not just one of the soldiers in their group leaves for a test and never comes back, but after the soldier Molly already had a problem with gets physical with the conductor, to which Tess has to intervene. They get extremely heated with Tess, accusing her of leading them all to their deaths, and that she's incompetent, unwilling to do what needs to be done, and the reason why one of their squadmates has almost certainly just died. And frankly, why did anyone expect any different of her? She's always been the lowest ranked elite, the only reason she's even here rather than missing like all the others is because they didn't trust her enough to not instantly die on the scouting missions they went on, and left her on babysitting duty instead! Hasn't she proven, time and time again, that she's incapable of true leadership, even from the beginning? Fuck, just look at who she associates herself with! The only people who ever willingly spent time with her weren't even the other elites, they were some fucking nurse and her old traitorous ex- to which Molly then promptly punches them in the nose for a second time. She was already beyond enraged that they were dragging Tess's name through the mud as is, but bringing up Parker again was the final straw, causing her to lash out once again.
...so really the answer is "bring up her ex to her face"
6. How well does your character act under pressure?
She's... mediocre. For as timid as she comes off, she's actually pretty okay in high pressure situations, albeit definitely not the best there is. As a medic, she's been trained to handle high pressure situations, so that's where her skill with them comes from, but still, functionally it's not a particular strong suit for her overall.
14. Is there a secret thing your character longs to hear?
The thing is is that what Molly thinks she wants to hear, she really just... doesn't. She wants to hear why Parker left her, why she'd break off a relationship of several years out of nowhere and never even mention how she'd been feeling in the weeks leading up to her desertion. But... even if Parker told her, would it matter? It's not going to change anything, and Molly is just functionally tormenting herself by mulling over it as a whole. Even when Parker does talk to her about it, as little as it is, telling her that she didn't leave because she didn't love her anymore, that she actually did still love her when she left, it doesn't make things better! It actively makes things worse! Hearing that Parker still loved her but her... whatever it was that made her so endlessly terrified that she couldn't bear to even talk to Molly about it just twists the knife even further, that clearly her version of love was always at odds with Parker's version of love.

Not too long ago I made a post about the Sanded Church of Skagen that was abandoned due to being buried in sand, but the “sand problem” is much larger than the church.
Tumblr media
If you look at Denmark on a map you might notice a white dot near the very top of the country.
Tumblr media
That my friend is a huge sand dune that arose out of the sea 300 years ago and is slowly eating its way through the landscape at 18 meters a year.
Tumblr media
And if you look closer you might notice that it’s heading straight for the towns Rannerød and Hulsig and when that happens no one will come to save them because the dune is protected. At least they’ll see it coming.
Tumblr media
That means that in a few hundred years we won’t just have a sanded church, we’ll have sanded towns with more roofs and towers sticking out of the dune than any tourist bureau could wish for.
Tumblr media
Because the dune is a very popular tourist spot. I myself have been to it a few times and it’s quite the experience for a child to suddenly be in a “desert” in Denmark.
Tumblr media
If you feel sad for the people in the towns just remember that’s nature. The reason why the dune is protected is because the area used to have many more but people made an effort to destroy them and it fucked up the ecosystem in the area. The dunes leave moist wetland behind that loads of rare creatures thrive in.
Tumblr media
So today the inevitable end of the towns are viewed as sort of romantic poetry about nature, the march of time and appreciating the now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And isn’t it kinda beautiful? To know that something like this exists in the world that will destroy our towns, roads and railways that we could easily eradicate with our modern technology but we choose not to simply because we know it would be wrong.

I am so fucking scared. I feel that... you know it's not about death. I'm not so scared of death. I'm so scared of being displaced. I want to go back to my home--and I'm so near, by the way... Gaza is so small. But I can't go there because the Gaza Strip is cut into pieces, and vehicles and tanks are in the borders between these pieces so I just can't go anywhere inside my homeland. My place. And... it's unacceptable. It's unimaginable. You know I have never imagined before that one day someone would just grab me from my... my homeland. My place. And just throw me away and prevent me to come back.
By the way, we don't know if we could go back. If we could go back again. Ever. And I'm so scared that they could displace us from Gaza Strip to the desert. [Bisan's voice breaks, she breaks into tears] We will die in the desert because of hunger. They displaced us to Egypt. To the north of Egypt, to Sanari desert. People just die. We will die.
[Sob] I don't know why do you guys are watching without doing anything to end this. Just in the... just stop it. Just stop it. Stop it in any price, stop it in any cost. Just stop it for anything. Just stop this. It's a nightmare. I can't continue just thinking about the displacement more and more. It's a nightmare. And I can't-- I can't keep it alive while thinking of being displaced more and more.
I just wanna go back to my home.
-- Bisan in a heartbreaking voice memo on Instagram, 2.14.2024

-->Fortunately, that was the end of Chore Time, and so we could get onto the meat of the playsession – namely, the Love Day dates! Alice went and asked Victor on the first date while Smiler headed upstairs to play some video games, and, naturally, I sent them to...
The Steampunk Cafe by patnactt3, which I'd set up earlier on the Pebble Burrow lot in Oasis Springs! :D Yeah, my original thought was to send them to South Square Coffee in Windenburg, but while looking through my Library to see if I had any better lots than the original cafe, I spotted the Steampunk Cafe sitting there, realized I'd never actually used said lot despite thinking it looked really cool, and headed over to Oasis Springs to plop it down (since it looked like the original creator built it there as per the preview pictures). It seemed a pretty neat place, to my delight -- with a central cafe, some outdoor activities (mainly chess and the steampunk rocket pad), and a whole hidden underground lab area. It just needed a little tweaking to be perfect – first, by replacing the toilets and the computers downstairs with more Victorian/steampunky versions (specifically, the toilets with the pull-chain ones from Vampires, and the computers with the typewriter ones from Cottage Living), and second, by adding a couple more things to do – like putting a small telescope up on the roof to go with the big observatory there, and sticking in a little splash pad area in the back for when it gets hot. :) I thought it would be ideal for Victor and Alice's date, and indeed, when they first got there, everything seemed to be going well -- I had them change into more appropriate clothes for the weather/situation, started them off with a few flirts, then sent them inside to talk to the barista and order some food – namely, a cannoli for Victor and a cup of mocha coffee for Alice.
-->Which is where I started running into problems. First off, the barista (who wasn’t very good at her job, as you can see by the coffee grounds spraying everywhere) kept acting like she couldn’t get to Victor and Alice for some reason, and put Victor’s plate down randomly on another table, which was already occupied. Second off, when I hopped into build mode to move the plate to a table that Katrina Caliente wasn’t sitting at, I discovered that the decorative woodworks that the creator had placed on the tables were all too big to ALLOW plates on them. Only the dragon table was actually accessible to Sims wanting to, you know, EAT. I tried to find something else to display them on, but the biggest spikiest one didn’t fit on a lot of the various displays, so I ended up just deleting them to make room. I then put the cannoli on another table and sent Victor over there to wait as Alice tried to get her coffee –
Aaaand another wandering townie came over, picked up the plate, and took it for herself. Before Victor could even take a bite. sigh This game, I swear...
-->Well, at least Victor and Alice could more than afford to redo their orders! I had them both order again and sit down at the recently-vacated-by-Katrina table nearest the counter – once again, the barista acted like she couldn’t get to them, but with them being closer, at least she put down the stuff where they were actually SITTING! I had Victor promptly start eating his cannoli this time as the plate was put in front of him, listening to Alice tell him a story and sharing some deep conversations with her, along with a bit of flirting. Alice eventually got her coffee, and the socialization train continued – though not without random townies trying to join in the conversation, as always. *grumble* Including the one who stole Victor’s original order! The nerve... I also saw Alice get blown a kiss at one point, but I wasn’t sure if Victor had done it or one of the other townies...I figured it HAD to be Victor because I was pretty sure I’d disallowed autonomous flirting in my game -- right? O.o
