Anyone who follows my blog regularly knows that musically, I’m stuck in the past.
I think part of the reason is that despite my love of pop punk and emo I struggle to connect with the lyrics as an adult.
Yet I can still listen to the classics as I remember a time when those lyrics reflected exactly what I was going through…if that makes any sense.
I have no idea what genre this band falls under but I discovered them completely by chance while perusing a vinyl blog.
I loved the look of their cover art and Record Store Day vinyl, so I decided to check them out.
Wow!
Majorly impressed, vocally and musically these guys are on point!
I know I’m late to the party but give these dudes a listen.

Watch: Former Wrestlers - ‘Weekend Hobbies’
Former Wrestlers is the brainchild of producer and now one-man-rock-shop, Derya ‘Dez’ Nagle. Having spent the best part of 10 years playing guitar in bands like The Safety Fire and Good Tiger, and producing the likes of Protest The Hero and Mongol Horde, Nagle has taken a step into the limelight, only to wear a mask while doing so.
The debut EP is called ‘Champion of the World’, set for release on March 15th it is an eclectic mix of songs, fusing rock, electronics and stripped back, soundtrack style sonic landscapes.
"The songs were written over a year in between touring and producing commitments, all while I was moving countries. Finding the time and headspace to work on these songs was an important outlet, and helped keep me grounded during this period of time."

On February 9th, Good Tiger will release their sophomore full-length, We Will All Be Gone, via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records. Good Tiger comments: “The response to ‘Devil’ has been amazing and we are excited for people to hear another part of the album. We’ll be playing a whole bunch of new material at all forthcoming shows, we’ve been having a lot of fun playing these songs live.”
To hear the first single, “The Devil Thinks I’m Sinking”, please visit: metalblade.com/goodtiger – where the record can be pre-ordered in the following formats:
–Digipak CD –180g Black Vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 500 copies) –Flesh Pink Clear Vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies) –Opaque Pale Pink Vinyl (USA exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
With music instantly accessed at the touch of a button, it seems that the urge to pigeonhole bands as quickly and neatly as possible has been driven to ever more extremes in recent years. Good Tiger, however, forge their own path. Blending their influences in a manner that defies lazy classification sets them apart from their contemporaries, imbuing everything they do with a distinctive sound and feel, and with We Will All Be Gone, Good Tiger have dramatically built upon their stunning debut, 2015′s A Head Full Of Moonlight. Comprised of guitarists Derya “Dez Nagle and Joaquin Ardiles, bassist Morgan Sinclair, drummer Alex Rudinger and vocalist Elliot Coleman, Good Tiger has raised the stakes across the board – every track on We Will All Be Gone has a definitive character of its own, and none stay in a single gear, all of them dynamic and textured as they evoke various tones and moods. Tracking at Middle Farm Studios in southwest England, the band also recruited producer Forrester Savell (Karnivool/Dead Letter Circus), and engineer/mixer Adam “Nolly” Getgood (Periphery/Animals As Leaders). “We worked with Nolly on the last album, we had a great working relationship, and wanted to explore that further in a more developed situation,” Dez explains. “Forrester has made some of our favorite albums, and is someone we could trust steering the ship. Having self-produced for so long it can be at times quite difficult to let go, so it was important we found people we could fully entrust to help create the album we wanted to make.”
We Will All Be Gone track-listing: 1. The Devil Thinks I’m Sinking 2. Float On 3. Such a Kind Stranger 4. Blueshift 5. Salt of the Earth 6. Grip Shoes 7. Just Shy 8. Nineteen Grams 9. Cherry Lemon 10. I’ll Finish This Book Later

The track comes from the band's forthcoming sophomore album, We Will All Be Gone, which is set to be released on February 9th via Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders are available now at metalblade.com/goodtigerOn the new track, vocalist Elliot Coleman shares: "'Grip Shoes' tells the tale of wasted potential; I'm sure we all find times in our life that are trivial, and not spent capitalizing on every moment. I'm very excited to share another track from our album, especially 'Grip Shoes,' as it's one of my favourites."Good Tiger is currently on tour with I the Mighty and Hail The Sun, with shows in Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and more. Day 16: A Head Full of Moonlight by Good Tiger, 2015, “Some Kind of Rock”
What happens when a death metal drummer, a mathcore guitarist, and a djent vocalist all get together for a project? Some kind of rock apparently, if you believe their Facebook page. In reality, it’s some odd combination of all the aforementioned genres but not nearly as heavy. It’s not quite like anything you’ve ever heard before, and it’s probably worth listening to for that reason alone.
First of all, what a vocal performance. The upper range of Elliot Coleman is astounding. Classically trained sopranos would kill to be able to belt the notes he’s capable of. “Understanding Silence” proves to listeners why this is a vocalist worth caring about. On the drumming end of things, it’s nice to hear some dynamics and variance out of Alex Rüdinger, a drummer who is usually playing at a constant breakneck speed. Though, the performance he gives isn’t very unique or memorable. The guitar work feels like it’s in a similar place. Derya Nagle is good at stringing listeners along from one phrase to the next, but there’s never a standout riff or inspired progression.
In the end, it’s worth checking out for the impressive vocal performance or to witness the genre chimera this group has put together. To me though, it wasn’t enough to convince me to come back to this album.

Heavy Pod Is Heavy Is Heavy Cast – Heavy Pod Is Heavy Cast – Episode 12: Where Are The Tigers Though? ft. Derya Nagle of Good Tiger
As you can probably deduce from the title, we have an awesome guest this week! None other than Derya “Dez” Nagle of one of our favorite bands of 2015, Good Tiger! (also formerly of The Safety Fire). Unfortunately Eden couldn’t join us this week, but rest assured that we’ll be hearing more from him soon. Instead, Derya and I talk about the inception of Good Tiger, the process behind their…
