This is a bit out of pocket but I want to rant.
So, I've had a dental splint for like almost 2 years now, I should have got it sooner (like, around 14-15 yo) but honestly I hadn't been to a dentist in like 6 years at that point and the last one had been extremely incompetent.
Anyways, the splint is, for course, to avoid causing damage to my teeth due to jaw clenching and teeth grinding and as such should be used every night (I'm working on being consistent with that) and whenever I'm doing something that requires focus and generates stress, which is basically the description of college assignment and related stuff.
The problem here is that means I should wear it at the library (or whatever space is available for working) when I do college stuff but first of it's definitely not normalised to wear it in public settings (and I have very bad social anxiety), it's also noticeable even with my mouth closed, it's bright green and it gives me a very noticeable lisp when I have to speak while wearing it. Technically I could count on no one speaking to me in the library and some college libraries even have space separators at the desks so I could avoid being seen.
But then I'd have to carry around my toothbrush and toothpaste and the special brush for the splint and I'd have to brush my teeth before using it and then go wash the splint afterwards, which would also be awkward as fuck.
What I mean to say is, if we've normalised wearing retainers and Invisalign (which you have to take off before eating in public spaces as well and brush your teeth before putting it back in) can we please normalise wearing splints at public working spaces because bruxism is a real problem and struggle for a lot of people but I feel like everyone finds the splint too bulky and noticeable and people look at you weirdly for wearing it.

Global Dental Sterilization Market: Defining Trends for 2023
Dental sterilization has surfaced as a vital sector, addressing the urgent need to maintain higher infection control standards globally. With the global dental sterilization market estimated to garner $1816.28 million by 2030, driven by factors such as the rising prevalence of dental diseases, cross-contamination risks, and cosmetic dentistry, it’s evident that the sector is at the forefront of promoting patient health. The market is projected to advance with a CAGR of 6.36% during the forecast period 2023-2030.
As per FDI World Dental Federation, oral diseases affect around 3.5 billion individuals globally. In this regard, approximately 2.3 billion people suffer from tooth decay. Moreover, periodontal disease affects up to 19% of the global population, leading to tooth fallout on numerous occasions. Given this rise in conditions, the number of dental procedures has soared, ultimately increasing the demand for sterilization instruments and consumables to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.
While disease prevalence and cross-contamination are key aspects, the rise in cosmetic dentistry has further widened the application scope of sterilization equipment in dentistry.
Elevating Dental Practices: Cosmetic Dentistry fuels Sterilization
Cosmetic dentistry services such as teeth whitening, dental bonding, tooth contouring, etc., have grown substantially over the past few years. This growing inclination is mainly attributed to rising consciousness about appearance and cost-effective procedures in developing nations. For instance, India, Thailand, and Malaysia have emerged as the three largest medical tourism destinations. In this regard, in 2022, the Indian government introduced the ‘Heal in India’ initiative to promote medical tourism. These factors thus further contribute to the Asia-Pacific dental sterilization market’s expansion.
Rising tourism for cosmetic dentistry has further boosted sterilization practices across hospitals, clinics, and dental laboratories. Triton’s analysis shows hospitals led the end-user segment, capturing revenue worth $611.80 million in 2022. Whereas the clinics category is estimated to witness the fastest growth at a CAGR of 6.49% during the 2023-2030 forecast period.
Furthermore, teeth whitening is among the widely opted treatments in aesthetic dentistry. Although cosmetic procedures are usually more voluntary than essential, several treatments offer restorative benefits, accelerating treatment demand. For example, dental veneers help resolve gaps, crooked teeth, and damaged enamel issues.
Accordingly, several health protection agencies, like CDC, recommend varying levels of disinfection and sterilization based on procedure and equipment type. Given these guidelines, players offer a varying range of dental sterilization instruments and consumables to lessen infection rates.
Medistel is one such instrument disinfectant consumable that is widely deployed for high-level disinfection of thermo-sensitive medical devices and surgical instruments. Based on product, the consumables category is projected to observe fast growth at a CAGR of 6.67% over the forecast period 2023-2030.
Widening Treatment Landscape promote Competitive Strategies
A medical device is a capital-intensive business that requires huge investments to manufacture innovative products. For example, Dentsply Sirona expends around $125 million yearly in dentistry research and development. Several establishments have thus commenced adopting innovative strategies to gain a competitive edge. Some of the prominent strategies include:
● In March 2023, Getinge acquired Ultra Clean Systems Inc, a leading US manufacturer of ultrasonic cleaning technologies.
● In January 2023, Steelco Group unveiled the New DS 610 G2 Series, a sterilizer with 12-DIN-tray capacity. It limits water and energy consumption to deliver high process efficiency.
● Applied Medical Europe collaborated with Getinge in November 2022 to deploy Getinge’s GEE Ethylene Oxide Sterilization System for its new facility in the Netherlands.
● In 2022, De Lama Launched HyPerPure® Low-Temperature Sterilization equipment that enables greater efficiency at a reduced cost.
● Orotol Plus was launched by Dürr Dental in 2021 that is used for simultaneous disinfection and care of dental suction systems, amalgam separators, and spittoons.
What’s Next for the Dental Sterilization Market?
Over the years, the dental industry has expanded substantially owing to awareness of several oral ailments. This has prompted various advancements in dental technologies to offer contemporary and precise solutions. On this front, digital X-rays using sensors eliminate over-exposure to radiation. Moreover, FDA-approved ultraviolet, handheld devices enable dentists to detect oral cancer at the initial phase. Further, deploying various non-invasive and laser systems has reduced reliance on numbing injections or pastes.
However, the employment of advanced equipment requires efficient and thorough disinfection procedures, accelerating the demand for cutting-edge sterilization equipment. Such tech-induced developments are expected to influence market contenders to expand their portfolio, which will open new avenues for the dental sterilization market.

Literally all the shit rich people have turned into luxuries are stuff many disabled people need (or would need to manage their pain but can't afford it)
Comfy ergonomic chairs
Indoor pool/hot tub (therapy bath)
Massages on the regular
Aides (rich people call them servants)
Yea even a cook who makes you special meals (perfect for people with special dietary needs and for those with severe allergies, as well as people who are in too much pain or are otherwise unable to cook)
Elevators in your house (even small ones just for groceries, my rich aunt has one in her beach house!)
Rich people don't buy these for fun I hope but custom powerchairs are obscenely expensive. It pisses me off when I see another person invent "the wheelchair of the future!" Which then is literally never fucking used because none of us can afford it (and insurance definitely won't pay)
Indoor gyms or even personal exercise equipment. Hard to go out to a gym somewhere else when you're disabled, especially if you are immunocompromised
Outdoor spaces to relax in. It's literally vital for your mental health to at least see the outdoors. I'd rather be bedridden in a sunroom (with retractable blinds) than a shitty apartment with one tiny window.
There's even freaking health retreats these people go to regularly. There's a fibromyalgia retreat in new york where they basically take care of all your needs while trying different treatments and seeing which ones help. Either it's heaven or making money off of scamming desperate people who are able to scrape the money together to go.
Private planes, which I honestly think shouldn't exist, but one that specifically catered to people with disabilities (spaces for wheelchairs/other mobility devices, accessible handicapped airplane bathroom, anxiety reducing tools, trained medical personnel and care team)
Also customized cars, except instead of making gas guzzling racecars to joyride in while everyone else is trying to get to work, cars with electric ramps, lifts, doors, cars customized for someone with limb differences. Those cars where you can roll your wheelchair right up to the wheel. Fuck even self driving cars once they are no longer deathtraps.
Skincare products that are safe for sensitive skin like eczema but also actually work
Nice-looking clothes customized to fit limb differences, access points, look good in wheelchairs, colostomy bags, etc. while also being comfortable and not fast fashion.
Dental care!!! What the fuck why is this shit so expensive!! I don't want my teeth to fall out!! (Disabled people usually need more dental care bc we have a harder time keeping up maintenance)
Rich people go and splurge on all of these even though they don't need them while calling disabled people selfish for begging their insurance for even one of these.
#disability#chronic disability#chronic pain#chronic illness#fibromyalgia#spoonie#wheelchair#wrenfea.exe#i hope one day i can get even a small therapy tub#bc hot water therapy is one of the best things for my pain#and swimming is the only painless exercise i can do

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the CBCT system market, just as it has affected many other industries. The pandemic has resulted in a decline in demand for CBCT systems due to the closure of dental clinics and suspension of non-emergency procedures. Furthermore, the pandemic has accelerated the shift towards telemedicine and virtual consultations, which has reduced the demand for CBCT systems as these systems are primarily used in on-site consultations.
Due to economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic, some dental clinics and healthcare facilities have reduced their investment in new equipment, including CBCT systems. Also, the pandemic has caused disruptions in the global supply chain, leading to shortages of raw materials and components used in the production of CBCT systems, impacting the availability of these systems.
However, it is anticipated that the demand for CBCT equipment would increase as the situation becomes better and dental offices and healthcare facilities get back to their regular schedules. In the near future, the market is anticipated to recover from the pandemic-caused slump.
In addition to this, there’re other factors which stand as roadblocks hindering its way of growth globally. For instance, CBCT systems are not widely available in all regions, which can limit access to this technology for some patients.
Also, CBCT scans expose patients to a relatively high radiation dose, which can raise concerns about potential long-term health effects. Again, the CBCT systems face competition from other imaging technologies, such as traditional radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can impact their market growth.
The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) System market can be segmented based on several factors, including Applications, Detector Type, Field of View, End-User and Geography. These segmentations of the CBCT system market helps in better understanding the demand and supply dynamics, competitive landscape, and growth potential of various segments.
The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) system market is a global market, with significant growth expected in regions such as North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Rest of the World. The growth in these regions can be attributed to factors such as increasing demand for advanced imaging technologies, growing aging population, and increasing prevalence of dental and oral diseases.
With the advancements in technology and increasing healthcare expenditure, the market is expected to continue its growth trajectory in the coming years.

Are there any resources/tips for going to the dentist? I’ve been putting it off for years, and I need to go soon before my teeth issues get any worse. But I’m terrified to take off my mask in a medical facility. I’m not even sure if I can find a place near me that requires staff AND patients to mask anymore :(
I get not wanting to get covid, but teeth problems are a HUGE risk for things like sepsis, so you should try to go anywhere asap. There's a pretty good chance you'd rather risk a covid infection now than be septic in a hospital and then catch covid there, tbh. Not trying to scare you, just being clear about the need for the risk.
Be prepared to go in at least twice since you haven't been in years, once for X-rays/cleaning/introductions, and then again (and perhaps again and again depending on your specific issues) to actually undergo procedures like fillings, etc. Going earliest mitigates the most risk. Make sure to schedule your appointments first thing in the morning for the lowest risk or right after their lunch break for not as low but definately lower risk.
You can bring your own air purifier, which can also help to mitigate risk. Some people swear by the "Redimask hack" in which you use this adhesive N95 over only your nose and breathe through your nose during the procedure. The adhesive on these masks makes me break out in welts/sweat the mask off, so if you've got a similar problem, there's some other tips here.
This is one of those situations where nasal sprays and mouthwashes may have some payoff, but they can't keep you from inhaling covid, so It's up to you whether you find them useful. Personally, I save the CPC mouthwash for before and after dental visits for this reason, and the same with xylitol nasal spray: there's been study showing that infections starting in the nose and throat do more neurological damage than ones starting from the lung, and while not perfect, it does add a layer of protection.
I own a wearable air filter for my allergies, and it has a MERV 17 filter, so I usually bring it along with me to the dentist to keep clean air blowing right up my nose, but I totally get how not everyone has $120 to drop on a device like that. There's a few small HEPA filters that can be purchased for between $50 and $90 that would work for that purpose. There are some links to some info about some on our site.

Jonathan Crane x Reader: Intrinsic Value (fic)
Pairing: Jonathan Crane x Reader
Summary: A short fic in which the good doctor uses his 'property' in the way which he desires, regardless of their feelings or human necessity for air.
Warnings for: throatfucking, oxygen deprivation, very very very dubious consent, oral sex, dental gag, sadism.
"Open your eyes, little mouse, before I force them open with one of those other devices I know you enjoy."
It's a callous claim, one which brings a smirk to his chapped lips as he watches you shudder around his cock, the tip threatening the back of your throat once more while he delights in the terror that his various medical 'toys' bring you.
"Maybe I'll even let you choose." He continues, a thin thumb brushing away an errant tear which sits high on your bruised cheek. "Would you like that?"
Knowing better than to deny it, your nod is pathetic as the limited movement betrays the anxiety in your chest. A desperation to please making you willing to endure the shame if it meant sparing your body, even for a while.
Unable to truly do anything but allow him to use you as an object for his own gratification due to the harsh dental gag which splits your jaw open to breaking point, your knees grind against the cold stone flooring as he pulls your head around like that of a doll. He forces you along his thin length, alternating the depth to ensure that you stay anxious and unaware of when he next plans to stab himself deep within your bruised throat.
Your face is a mess. The heat in your upper cheek telling of the mark which sits there - a result of his open palm streaking a fresh heat atop an old bruise - as tears stream freely of your panicked eyes, the mess there matched by the sticky patch of saliva and pre-cum which drips free of your opened lips.
It's a rancid, churning humiliation which makes your chest shudder with every steady drip that falls free to land on your heaving tits.
"Take it all, whore." Crane growls out, the words stuttering as his cock jerks within your throat as he finally - finally - takes mercy on you and comes. In an instant you can feel the heat of his release as it burns down your throat and your vision darkens for a moment while a lightheadedness stemming from the steady lack of oxygen threatens the edges of your senses.
His fingers burn against your scalp as he pulls the hair there so roughly that you can feel strands popping loose as he shakes your skull viciously, ensuring that every drop of his release is pumped straight down your vulnerable throat as you retch around his cock with a woeful terror.
On the verge of passing out, his cock pulls roughly free of your lips and your lungs burn as they inhale deep breathfuls of oxygen even as you choke and splutter and sob out your mistreatment. His hands are still buried within your hair and you can feel his eyes pinned to your face, drinking in every misery which you cannot hide.
"Not bad, little mouse." He praises, the words more mocking and shameful than any insult he could hurl. "I predict that you'll be fully trained within the week, should these results continue to improve."

The rising prevalence of dental diseases worldwide is a key driver for the dental sterilization market. Dental problems, including periodontal disorders, hypodontia, tooth decay, cavities, and other oral health concerns, can lead to significant toothaches and gum-related pain. Nearly 3.5 billion people globally are diagnosed with oral diseases, as per the FDI World Dental Federation.
The statistics reveal that an estimated 2.3 billion individuals suffer from tooth decay in permanent teeth, while more than 514 million children experience tooth decay in primary teeth. Gum disease, a common ailment, affects approximately 50% of the global population, with severe cases leading to tooth loss in 10%.
However, the cost associated with dental treatment poses a challenge for the dental sterilization market. The expenses incurred in dental care are primarily owing to the use of advanced technology and equipment, the extensive education and training for dentists, the high overhead costs of operating a dental office, and the cost of dental insurance. Besides, many dental treatments are not covered by health insurance, and dental cosmetic procedures often receive limited insurance coverage, leading to higher out-of-pocket expenses for patients.
The Asia-Pacific region is expected to witness the fastest growth over the forecast period. This growth is attributed to the region's increasing healthcare expenditure, which drives the demand for dental sterilization products. Notably, governments in countries such as China, India, and Japan actively invest in enhancing healthcare infrastructure, further amplifying the demand for reliable and effective dental sterilization solutions. The region's commitment to improving healthcare facilities creates a favorable environment for the growth of the dental sterilization market.
