Look! Rossi's horse Dynamix (Zobel's Dynamix) just arrived! He is very lovely, and definitely different from what we normally see around here, which is small, compact horses with multiple gaits. This grey can only trot, walk and canter, but daamn he can trot!

Pretty sure Rossi, who doesn't speak much by the way, is happy to have his buddy back. He has definitely missed him, that much was very clear when he greeted him. But well... apparently Dynamix is used to traveling a lot, as Rossi is an 'old' Soccerplayer, so taking him for a ride shortly after he had arrived was no big deal.

normally gilly would find running into her ex hookups to be awkward, but there was something special about declan sullivan. that's why she couldn't help but take up his time whenever they ran into each other in public, and why she practically ran towards him now.

"hi!" she greeted, her grin wide despite being out of breath. "i feel like i haven't seen you in years. are you doing okay?"

Hiya, hope this is okay! I didn't go into too many sad emotions lol, but hopefully this is okay :)

Description: reader gets dragged back to his hometome, but reunites with his younger brother.

Warnings: child abuse, abuse, murder, alcohol mentions, assault, previous arrests, custody battles, death of a parent

“This week’s case my fine furry friends, you are all heading to Oregon. The homeland of the one and only (Y/N).” Penelope said, pointing the bippy at you. You give a small smile, not having the heart to tell her you were hoping to keep that particular cat in the bag. “So this unsub is targeting unsavory individuals, first, this man. Robert Davis, 42, father of three. Total slime ball, an abusive drunk who is particularly fond of driving under the influence.”

You all looked at the photos now on the board. “Now, up next, same thing. Derek Harris. Father, this time 53, abusive, drinks on occasion.”

“Okay, so he’s got a type.”

“How long between victims?”

“Only four days.”

“How long does he keep them alive?”

“Only a few hours, before he dumps them on the door of their house.”

“He dumps the bodies at their house?” You asked, frowning.

“Why?”

“It’s like a gift.” You theorised, “I know what he was doing so I took revenge for you.”

“Some gift.” Prentiss said, turning back to the file.

Not long after, you were all on the jet on your way to Oregon. The briefing didn’t take long, just a few rough ideas exchanged and Morgan asking if you were excited to go home, you were not. 

“Hotchner.” Hotch answered the phone before the end of the second ring. “You’re sure? Okay. We’ll make sure to send some agents there when we land. It’s alright, I’ll let him know. Thank you.” And with that, Hotch hung up again.

The air was a little tense, to say the least. “Another body turned up?” Rossi asked. Hotch just gave a nod.

“Already?” Reid’s eyebrows furrowed. You watched your boss closely for a few seconds.

“It’s him, isn’t it?” Is all you ask.

“Yes.” Is his response. “The ME just identified him.”

“Who found him?”

“(Y/N)…”

“Hotch, who found him?”

“Your brother.”

You sighed, looking away. “He okay?”

“He’s alright. Paramedics checked him over, he’s at the station waiting for us to land.”

You give a small nod. “He’s okay?”

“He’s okay.” Hotch said, voice a little more gentle now. The team watched you cautiously, all concerned.

“Who was the latest victim?” Reid asked, frowning slightly.

“Er, Lee (L/N).”

“(L/N)?” Morgan asked, turning to face you.

“My dad.” You gave a small nod. 

“Which means we’re going to have to dive into your life,” Hotch explained, his face was his usual stern expression, but you could see the understanding in his eyes.

“I know.” You gave a small sigh. “I was arrested for assault when I was eighteen - I just broke his nose. No charges were pressed or anything.”

“What happened?” JJ asked.

“Er, I saw him hit my brother.” You gave a small nod. “And he didn’t press charges on the condition I moved out. So, I moved out. I tried fighting for custody but with that arrest, the courts weren’t having it.”

“They wouldn’t let you have custody?”

“Nope, not even with our medical records.” You gave an awkward shrug, “I tried multiple times, Declan ended up in the hospital once or twice. I lived in a small town, and everyone just… turned a blind eye to it.”

“That’s horrible…” JJ said. “They turned a blind eye? Just like that?”

“Yep. And then after the second custody battle and I was doing a food shop and I saw my dad hit Declan again. That time, I landed my dad in hospital.”

You were silent for the rest of the ride, preferring to sit inside your own head than interact with the outside world.

As soon as the jet landed, you, Spencer, and Hotch headed to the police station, the others dividing themselves between the different crime scenes. You follow the secretary’s vague motion to a room at the back of the station. It takes you thirty seconds after to realise she was in your grade in school. You purposefully ignored that and gave the door a light knock before opening the door. 

“Declan…” You had prepared for the worst. You were expecting him to hate you, you had left the day you turned eighteen. Granted, it wasn’t exactly a voluntary leave, but you still left.

“(Y/N),” Declan looks up, smiling a little when he sees you. His eyes are bloodshot.

“Hey.” You said softly, "How are you feeling?"

Declan gives a small shrug and you give a quiet sigh, taking a seat next to him on the couch. "Come here," You said, opening your arms. He stares at you for a moment before letting himself lean against you.

You wait until you've both calmed down before speaking again. “We need to talk, kid…”

“I know.” Declan gave a small tight lipped smile. You sit down next to him, sighing slightly as you did. “They don’t think you’re involved, do they?”

“Nah, I’ve got an alibi I cleared with my boss.”

Declan nods, “Good. So I’m assuming your team know?”

“Yep.” You sighed, turning to face him. “Look, Declan-”

“You don’t need to apologise.”

“Yes, I do. I left.”

The teen rolled his eyes, “You’re actually thick. You didn’t leave, dad basically kicked you out.”

“I should have fought to stay.” You argued.

“Yeah, and he would have killed you.” He said. “Besides, I was fine.”

“Were you?”

“Yeah. Most of the time dad was too caught up in his drinking to care.” Declan gave a small shrug. “So… what’s going to happen to me?”

“Well, if you want, I’ve got a spare room that I could let you have. I suppose.” You said, a small smile tugging at your lips. 

“Yeah, I guess. If I had too.” Declan grinned slightly. 

“Sounds good.” You gave a nod, “We can sort everything else out later. And, if you want - since our house is sort of a crime scene, you can bunk in my hotel room.”

“Perfect, free hotel room.” Declan smirked.

“Yeah, yeah.” You rolled your eyes. “I gotta go talk to my team, you okay in here?”

“Yes, old man. I’m fine.” 

You placed a hand on your chest dramatically as you left. 

“Everything okay?” Hotch asked.

“Yeah. I think so.” You said, giving your boss a small smile. “As well as it can be right now, anyway.”

“He seems resilient.”

“He is.” You gave a small nod. “You don’t mind if I stay for a while after the case to sort everything up here out, do you?”

Hotch shook his head, “Not at all. Take all the time you need.”

Hiya! I’ve been seeing this hc circulating around for a while and I wanted to hear your opinion about it. I don’t know if you’ve seen it before, but someone posted a long analysis about how when Emily mentioned killing someone in the Doyle arc, she wasn’t referring to Declan but to some person she might’ve actually killed, a civilian maybe (possibly while undercover). It’s difficult for me to imagine a situation other than Emily trying her absolute hardest to keep someone away and failing, which is what would cause an untimely death completely unrelated to her involvement. Idk just the idea of her killing is so against her character and so against everything she stands for in the show, I think it’s more she thought she had something to do with someone’s death - in an impossie situation - rather than actually having a hand in it.

Hi! So I'm not 100% sure if we're thinking about the same post, but if so I think I might've replied to it at some point. And disclaimer before I say anything: many interpretations are valid, and one of my favourite things about this arc is that it introduces so much complexity.

Personally, I think he's talking about Declan. Not because of any particular character thing about Emily - just because it makes narrative sense. The entire arc is this slow unveiling of what he is actually getting revenge for, and it's Declan. So from memory here's kind of how the 'reveal' of Declan goes. I am definitely going to miss things.

"You took the only thing that matters to me." - we have no idea what he's talking about here, just that whatever it is, he wants Emily to pay with her life.

"Happy birthday, my love." - again, we don't know who he's talking to, but he's in a Catholic church lighting a candle at a side altar so they're probably dead.

The whole reveal about the gimmel ring and the flashback to him giving it to her - we learn they were in a committed relationship and that he wanted to marry her. (This is another place the fandom differs but it's at least complicated for her, and he does seem to genuinely love her in his own fucked up way.)

Some members of the team are used narratively to try to plant the idea with the audience that maybe this ruthlessness actually does say something Bad about Emily. Whether you think this is clumsily done or a logical place for Morgan's mind to go is up for interpretation, but the things he says are there in the script to plant the question 'is she bad, actually?'

"This won't be the first time you've killed an innocent, but it will be the first time you have to watch". We're like 'omg what is he talking about', because we still don't know about Declan. [[From his POV, as far as he knows, she was the only person who knew about his son, and his son was killed by someone else to break him. She caused his son's death, but didn't have to watch. It just feels overwhelmingly more likely that this is what he's referring to here than anything else, because getting her to confess to this is the entire point of capturing her and torturing her.]]

That weird hammy scene between Rossi and Ashley where Ashley is like "WHY FAMILIES???" that leads to the team realising Doyle killing a child he could've chosen to spare could be the key to figuring out why he's taken Emily. Clyde wonders, if Doyle had a kid, why Emily would've kept that from him, and we don't know the answer.

Doyle tells Emily if she knew where to find him she knows "what this is about", and it's time for her last confession. She says "take me to where he died" - this is the first time we hear her acknowledge Declan at all and it's like 15ish mins from the end of Lauren.

The flashback of her with Declan. She clearly loves this kid and cares about protecting him. Uh oh did she actually get this child killed????

Doyle shows her the photo of Louise and Declan. They very much appear to be dead, she is the only person who knew Declan was his child, she admits to putting him in the profile and Doyle says the photos were what broke him and got him to talk. She's crying about it. It very much seems like this child is dead and she is responsible. (I honestly think as long time fans and people obsessed with this arc, we forget how late this reveal comes and how much the audience does not know what really happened yet at this point.)

"There's something you don't know about those photos" etc etc etc where we hear Emily fill in what Doyle (and the audience) didn't already know, and makes her behaviour fit with what we already knew about her - she put a lot on the line to protect this kid, even kept him a secret from Clyde, who has been established as Even Shadier Than Her, and all is well with our understanding of our ruthless fave.

Narratively, almost every single thing Doyle says to or about Emily is slowly revealing to the audience what he understands of what happened to his son, and then from 'there's something you don't know about those photos', it's Emily telling us what Doyle didn't know. It doesn't really make any sense (to me) for this one thing to be totally unrelated to that, especially for him to choose this particular moment to not to make it about Declan. Fahey isn't a stranger - Ian is about to have her choose the life of one innocent person she knows over another. As far as he knows at this point, she bonded with his kid and then had him killed as a means to her own end. Pointing a gun at two friends and an acquaintance and making her choose who to kill is the perfect moment to torture her with that fucked up choice he fully believes she already made.

I think with hindsight, looking back when we already know the whole story, it's easy enough to spin it another way. But in the context of this whole arc being a slow unveiling of Declan, it just doesn't make any sense to me for that to be an unrelated statement about some other shady thing she did, because all Doyle cares about is getting revenge for her getting Declan killed.

(That said, I think Emily is a pretty morally grey character, and I always think about what Reid says about the undercover cop in Retaliation - "good guy doing bad things". I'm sure Lauren did plenty of bad things because you need to if you're not going to blow your Bad Guy cover. I think Ian does that fond 'hello, Lauren' when she says to shoot Fahey not because he's familiar with her making the choice to kill someone, but because he's familiar with the ruthless logic she uses, and the way she protects the people closest to her first. It's very Emily, and apparently very Lauren too.)

just some thoughts on season 7 post-doyle spencer and jj --

it never made sense to me how spencer keeps saying that he went to her house crying for ten weeks because a) he's always been the kind of person who needs to cope on his own and hates asking for help and b) even if he did ask for help, jj has never been the person he's gone to for it. for the most part, when spencer's opened up to someone on screen, it's been morgan, penelope, and emily, even hotch on rare occasions. but up until this point, there hasn't been a single moment when spencer's shown jj any kind of emotional vulnerability.

so then, when i think about what happened immediately after emily died, it was spencer leaving the waiting room before he started crying in front of everyone, and jj who stopped him. then there's the flashbacks in 'it takes a village', where jj's asking penelope where spencer is, and where she's surprised that he's at the firing range again until penelope tells her that it's become a habit of his since emily died. which makes me wonder if the real reason spencer is so angry at jj isn't just that he trusted her, but also that she encouraged him to trust her.

it also bugged me because of how clipped he is with her in the episode too, never really giving her a full answer, especially when he calls her about declan not being at the school (and maybe it's just me reading into it, but the way he talks to her feels dismissive). maybe it's also just that her promotion to unit chief isn't really deserving (technically it should really either be rossi, who probably said no, or derek, who also probably said no because he wanted to hunt doyle down, and jj's really the only one left).

all in all, i guess what i'm trying to get at is that i think jj pushed him to be vulnerable with her and trust her and that's what makes him so angry when it turned out that she had helped keep emily's status secret. he's not mad at hotch for lying to him, or at emily for not sending some kind of sign to them that she was alive.

and again, the 'i came crying to your house for ten weeks over losing a friend and not once did you have the decency to tell me the truth' feels so wrong because he just wouldn't do that (and most people wouldn't, especially when said woman is living with a partner and their child), unless jj was the person who invited it. but again, a lot of this may just be subtext or me looking too closely.

Things that would have happened in CM had I been in charge, in no particular order:

Addressing how fucked up it was that no one helped Reid when he was using. The perfect time to do this would have been during or after 7x9 Self Fulfilling Prophecy. It should have been Reid who noticed Strauss having issues, not Morgan (or maybe they both notice at the same time) She gets sent to rehab same as in canon, and Reid wonders why Morgan and Hotch never helped him the way they did Strauss. Then, for the first proper time, his past issues are finally addressed. They tell him that they didn't want to make the same mistake with her they made with him and apologize for turning a blind eye.

Reid asking JJ out at the Redskins game would have been shown instead of just eluded to... BUT! She turns him down bc he's like a little brother and that's THE LAST WE EVER HEAR OF IT AND 14X15 NEVER GODDAMN HAPPENS

Addressing that, assuming Scratch's involvement in Reid's Mexico debacle that we later learned was not the case, it would theoretically have been a VERY REAL POSSIBILITY that Reid COULD HAVE KILLED RAMOS bc that was Scratch's ENTRE goddamn shtick! Obviously, that's not what happened, but the possibility would have at least been acknowledged. Actually... that's the ONLY way it Could Have... fuck I'm making a separate post on this.

Elle would have resurfaced at some point. I have many ideas on how this could have happened, but one way or another, it WOULD have happened

Max would have been with Reid at the party in the series finale.

The aforementioned party would have been Rossi's retirement send-off, NOT Garcia's goodbye party.

WHAT ARE WE?

Nikolette's POV

It's slowly getting colder and colder, that much is clear. We haven't had snow yet, but it's only a matter of time. I love being beside my love, but had to talk to Rossi before going on a hack with her and my daughter.

"Rossi?" I asked, watching him train his horse in the arena. It was clear that it would soon be time for Dynamix to wear a blanket, as his coat wasn't exactly thick enough for the weather yet, and he has only just arrived from a much warmer country.

"Yeah, Niko, what's up?" He rode towards the gate, stopping his grey gelding just in front of me, so we could talk.

"Not to meddle or anything, but maybe you should think about clipping Dynamix and giving him a blanket? It's getting quite cold, and they are talking about snow very soon," I threaded carefully, knowing that I didn't exactly know Rossi that well yet, and had to approach a topic like this with a gentle, caring tone of voice.

"Ah, you are right. I hadn't exactly realized that it had gotten this cold yet," I sighed in relief that he didn't take my words the wrong way, then he added, "By the way... you and Soffía... are you? Together?"

"I guess, you could say that. We aren't official as such only exclusive, but I know that I love her," I confessed, a hand over my heart, feeling it beating hard at the thought of Soffía.

"Ah, gotcha! Just wanted to... understand you and the other staff better," he scratched his neck kinda awkwardly, and patted Dynamix' neck.

"Yeah..." I replied, smiling just as awkwardly before adding, "Well, I'll go on a hack soon. I'll see you later?"

"Sure!" He waved at me, before continuing his training.

Going on the hack with my love and my daughter was nice. Normally I am not the one to ride Kolubleik, it's mostly Peyton, my daughter, who rides her, but I wanted to do a ladies' ride, so onto Kolubleik's back I went.

Soffía and I paced silently in front for a while, not one word was spoken. It was nice to just enjoy the nature around us and the horses beneath us, but I wanted to ask Soffía something.

I didn't get time for that before Peyton passed us in a fast canter on her/our private horse Solvei.

"See you at the top!" Peyton laughed as she passed us.

I slowed Kolubleik down into a tölt, and Soffía did the same with Hofna. Tölting for a while, feeling completely safe with Peyton disappearing in the distance, as she knew the way home by heart, I then began speaking.

"Soffía?" I said, barely over a whisper, but realized she couldn't hear me, so I spoke a little louder: "Soffía?"

"What is it, Niko?" she replied, turning her head towards me with a smile, which made me blush deeply.

"It's just... what are we?" I spoke the words slowly and carefully, trying to rule out every misunderstanding.

"What we are?" She looked puzzled for a second, and then laughed nervously, "We are... what you want us to be?" It sounded more like a question than an answer.

"And if I want us to be partners? In a romantic manner I mean?" I asked, chewing at my bottom lip.

She reached over, touching my cheek.

"Then is that what we are?" I struggled a little, asking again.

"That's what I want, and if that's what you want too, then that's what we are," she smiled sweetly at me, stroking my cheek, as we both brought our horses into a halt.

"It's what I want," I replied with a big smile, and she leaned over to kiss my lips. This was definitely a good day, even if we got snow tomorrow.

"look who it is!" it was always the same, bright greeting when gilly saw declan. stepping up to him now, she stood on her toes and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him in for a tight hug. no matter how much time had passed since they last saw each other, it felt like nothing at all. long story short, gilly enjoyed any time she got to spend with her friend.
