Dialogue Prompt: "This is just pointless."

She ignored his put upon sighing and tried to angle her library card only a little bit further into the nonexistent gap between the solid metal door frame and the door. She'd already snapped her AmEx and her faculty ID. The faculty ID would be such a huge pain to replace.

"Really, Foster, I'm not sure what you're hoping to gain in this prolonged exercise in futility." He was way too close again, looming over her shoulder in the small, enclosed space. His breath was a just bit too warm where it curved against the shell of her right ear. "Security should be making their rounds in, at most, maybe another hour or two. Surely you can wait another hour?"

She couldn't, in fact, wait another hour. And certainly not two. Not while they were trapped in a dim, cluttered storage room, full of half-broken equipment.

And not while he leaned in this close.

Jane clenched her jaw and elbowed him in the stomach, the thin, laminated cardstock bending in the middle from the force. Damnit it. He only elbowed her back.

"Are we quite done now, Foster? Shall we wait, like adults, for security?"

Jane didn't stomp on his foot. She wanted to, but moving any closer to him would be a bad, bad, terrible idea. Especially now that she knew what his aftershave smelled like (leather and ozone and pine trees), and, this far into grading exams, on what might have been her second or maybe third day on close to zero sleep, she had been starting to hallucinate. Enough that his stupid smug smile was attractive.
