Matthew's protective instinct and blood rage have gone into overdrive after Kit and Louisa's attack on Diana.

The Bedlam scene is one of my favourites of the whole show on account of Matthew soulful and hair-raising performance. He beautifully conveyed the complexity of his character, his feral nature and humanity, his inner conflicts and fears and struggle with blood rage, his pain and vulnerability. Just an extraordinary piece of acting 👏👏

Before officially meeting, do you think Matthew and Diana ever just casually passed each other while on campus? Cause I'm imagining Gallowglass watching from an undetectable distance, seeing Diana cross a courtyard, going in the opposite direction of Matthew and Gallowglass is just simultaneously panicking and relieved.

Gallowglass: Oh my God, it's happening! They're going to finally meet! After centuries of waiting and decades of watching, Diana will finally be- Wait! Why is she walking away? Auntie! Turn back right now! Matthew! Turn around and go meet your wife!

They both continue on their way, completely oblivious to who they just walked past.

Gallowglass, unable to decide if this was a good or bad thing: Ok, they didn't meet this time. So, I don't have to leave her yet. But it'll be sooner rather than later now. At least she'll be happy when they do meet...

It's one of my all-time favourite book-to-series ("All Souls Trilogy" by Deborah Harkness) productions - obvi co-starring Alex Kingston, as a witchy, sassy (hello, sweetie!), LGBT Auntie - and the entire series is just perfect?! Time travel, witches, vampires, werewolves, unrequited love, broken hearts, baddies, fab CGI, beautiful cast, great story...what more could you ask for?

CAST (some Doctor Who vets): Matthew Goode, Teresa Palmer, Alex Kingston, Lindsay Duncan (😍), Sophia Myles, Louise Brealey, James Purefoy (😍), Tom Hughes, Valerie Pettiford, Alysha Heart, Trevor Eve, Owen Teale, Paul Rhys...and on and on!

The first season was released in 2018 but there are 3 seasons altogether and it's absolutely worth the watch.

I'm on my fifth watch 🤓 since its initial release. So good!

JOMP BPC - 24th January - Magical Moment

A book full of magical moments! I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I really enjoy that it's set in recognisably contemporary Oxford - I like my magic to be grounded in something like reality. And I'm not immune to the whole sexy vampire thing! And of course I'm interested in the story of a woman reluctantly coming into her power. But oh my god, the protagonist and her vampire beau are frequently infuriating, and their relationship - which of course is sold as a great romance - is dreadful in several ways.

Any 'All Souls' /'A Discovery of Witches' fans on my dash? The series is one of my major hyperfixations besides IWTV and I'm currently reading the 5th book in the series that dropped 2 days ago - The Black Bird Oracle.

‘Out of my sight, all of you, before I change my mind.’ Elizabeth returned to her chair and slumped against its carved back.

Lord Burghley indicated with a jerk of his head that we were to follow the queen’s instructions. But Matthew couldn’t leave matters where they stood. ‘A word of caution, Your Majesty. Do not place your trust in the Earl of Essex.’

‘You do not like him, Master Roydon. Nor does William or Walter. But he makes me feel young again.’ Elizabeth turned her black eyes on him. ‘Once you performed that service for me and reminded me of happier times. Now you have found another and I am abandoned.’

“My care is like my shadow in the sun/Follows me flying, flies when I pursue it,/Stands and lies by me, doth what I have done”

Matthew said softly. ‘I am your Shadow, Majesty, and have no choice but to go where you lead.’

‘And I am tired,’ Elizabeth said, turning her head away, ‘and have no stomach for poetry. Leave me.’

I love all the moments between Queen Elizabeth and Matthew. Stupendous performances, particularly from Barbara Marten, one of the best on-screen Elizabeths IMHO.

And Matthew looks dashing in Elizabethan finery 💥💥

Can you imagine the stress Philippe was under whenever this came up?

Ysabeau: Do you think Matthew may mate with Juliette? I may not like her, but I would accept it if it would make him happy...

Philippe: I am certain he won't mate with her.

Philippe, internally: She's not Diana!

Ysabeau, a few decades later: Matthew is curious as to why he and Juliette have still not mated. I told him that if he were meant to mate with her, it would have happened long ago.

Philippe: Yes, it would have. Perhaps they should accept that and part ways.

Philippe, internally: Diana, where are you? My son is being an idiot and needs you to set him straight!

Ysabeau, a few more decades later: We've a letter from Matthew. He and Juliette are...
