At the Special Panel, Hideo Kojima will discuss and share new details about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the upcoming sequel to the critically acclaimed Death Stranding video game, arriving exclusively on PlayStation 5 later this year.

Kojima Productions will also host an exclusive pop-up shop at SXSW which will feature the latest Death Stranding 2: On the Beach merchandise, as well as exclusive items that will be available only at SXSW. More information on the pop-up shop will be confirmed shortly. Stay tuned for more updates!

Launched in 1987, SXSW has grown into a global phenomenon. The nine-day event brings together the best and brightest from tech, film, music, and beyond. The event features keynote speeches, conference sessions, film screenings, music performances, and interactive media exhibitions.

A Hideo Kojima game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach embarks on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected?

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach sees Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, and Troy Baker return to Hideo Kojima’s genre defying universe. They will be joined by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Academy Award-winning film director George Miller.

PlayStation State of Play Announced for Wednesday

Confirming several rumours, Sony has announced that a PlayStation State of Play will be held on February 12. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach - TGS 2024 special stage event summary, footage - Gematsu

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Kojima Productions shared new information and footage for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach during a special stage event at Tokyo Game Show 2024, including character names and Japanese voice actors, an in-game photo shoot event, and an in-game performance by Daichi Miura.

■ Character Names and Japanese Voice Actors

Tarman (portrayed by George Miller, voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto in Japanese)

Dollman (portrayed by Fatih Akin, voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in Japanese)

Tomorrow (portrayed by Eli Fanning), voiced by Shion Wakayama in Japanese)

Rainy (portrayed and voiced by Shioli Kutsuna)

■ Photo Shoot Event

A “Photo Shoot Event” in which the player can photograph the characters with an instant camera was shown off. (A separate “Photo Mode” will also be available.) Death Stranding 2: On the Beach director Hideo Kojima suggested that while this may seem like a fun-only element, it does have some influence on the story. “It would be better to take good pictures,” he said.

■ “Horizon Dreamer” Performed by Daichi Miura

By doing a certain action in the game’s Private Room, you can watch an event where Daichi Miura, alongside a group of Dollman, performs a new song and dance created for the game. The song, “Horizon Dreamer,” will be available via music streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify starting September 30.

 Release Date

At the end of the event, Kojima commented on the release date, stating, “While we haven’t announced the release date yet, we naturally already have one set. The plans are in place. Although production is progressing towards that goal, there are various factors that could affect the timing of the release… We’ve said 2025, so it will come out next year. The release date will be announced sometime next year.” He continued, “Development isn’t done yet, but I feel confident, and it’s turning out to be an even weirder game than the first one. We’re making it with the sense of, ‘Is there really a game like this out there?'”

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is due out for PlayStation 5 in 2025.
