REVIEW: The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror: Omnibus #2
Closing in on October, boys and girls of all ages sit close to their tv screens to watch the much anticipated Halloween Spectacular. The Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror is a collection of short animations featuring our favorite cast of yellowed-skinned cartoons in thrilling, horrifying, and gruesome stories. This in many households is a tradition not unlike that of the carving of the pumpkin,…

hello! maybe i am misremembering, but i do remember you reblogged some guides on how to write characters, such as stereotypes to avoid when writing characters of color. do you have a tag or a list of guides for how to write disabled characters and stereotypes to avoid? i am only hard of hearing and even that is a weird experience that often isnt similar to other peoples expereinces, but i would love to write more disabled characters and want to make sure i am listening to disabled people and are respectful about the character im creating! thank you so much for all the amazing guides and info you are putting out! your masterlists have helped me find some amazing faces and are super useful ♥
Hey anon! When I research characters, for this instance characters with disabilities, I google the disability and then "stereotypes" or "what not to do" or look on Youtube because there's so many people on Youtube educating others about their disabilities.
The following speak about their disabilities in videos!
Special Books by Special Kids interviews a variety of people (not just children!) with various disabilities. Alyssa, a part of the team, also has mental health disorders which you find a video about here!
Jessica Kellgren-Fozard who has hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome with Marfanoid phenotype causing blindness in one eye and deafness.
Chella Man who is deaf and uses cochlear implants, have done several interviews and videos on the past about his experiences!
Molly Burke who is blind, has a guide dog!
Lucy Edwards who is blind.
The Blind Life , Sam who is blind.
Matthew and Paul, Paul is blind, uses a cane and has a guide dog.
Alex1Leg who is a leg amputee.
Footless Jo who is a a foot amputee and a stroke survivor.
Spencer2TheWest who is a double leg amputee.
Squirmy and Grubs, Shane has muscular dystrophy.
The Frey Life, Mary has Cystic Fibrosis.
Chelsea Bear who has Cerebral Palsy.
Annie Elainey who has is autistic and has EDS.
Gem Hubbard who is a wheelchair user.
PARALIFE, Craig and Claire, Craig is paraplegic.
Mason Branstrator who is paraplegic.
Roll with Cole & Charisma, Cole is quadriplegic.

February 21st 2002 saw the all-Scots curling team won gold at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, watched by over 5 million TV viewers in the wee small hours of the morning.
The team led by skipper Rhona Martin, clinched the title and a place in history with the last stone of the final end. Martin, backed by Fiona MacDonald, Margaret Morton, Janice Rankin and Debbie Knox, are the first British Winter Games gold medallists since Torvill and Dean back in 1984.Scottish curler Martin needed nerves of steel to knock out a Swiss counting stone at the climax of the final, but she managed to pull it off.Her own stone then finished up close to the centre of the rink and that was enough to seal a 4-3 triumph.
"I was just panicking on the last stone," Martin admitted afterwards.
"It was just a case of having faith that I could I do it.
"We had to keep it a close game to have a chance and we were always in control."
MacDonald added: "All the hard work we've put in has paid off. We've been living in each other's pockets for nine months now and we know each other so well."
Martin had earlier fired the team into a narrow 2-1 lead at the close of the fifth end with a double after successfully taking out a Swiss counting stone. A mistake by the Swiss during end seven increased that advantage to 3-1 before they struck back to tie the scores with singles in ends eight and nine.
The four women were the first Scots to win gold at a winter games since 1936.
And we did it all again last year in Beijing, with a dominant performance against Japan in the final.
Eve Muirhead’s team, also all Scots, naturally, led from the first end of the gold medal match, and continued that form throughout to win by a score of 10-3 and top the podium. Skip Muirhead, who won bronze in 2014, expertly controlled affairs throughout and finally has a gold medal at her fourth Olympics after returning from hip surgery.
Teammates Vicky Wright, Jen Dodds, and Hailey Duff are champions at their first attempt.
“It’s a dream come true,” Muirhead, who shed a tear on the medal podium said “That was my third semi-final, and the two I lost were hard but I bounced back and here we are. We are Olympic champions. It’s such a special moment.”

Queens Of The Stone Age anuncia la salida de su octavo álbum
In Times New Roman...

Queens of the Stone Age anuncia su octavo álbum de estudio, In Times New Roman... que saldrá el 16 de junio a través de Matador @matadorrecords
youtube

Dean Village Edinburgh from David Rankin on Vimeo.
Dean Village is a peaceful village on the Water of Leith, Edinburgh's largest river. Founded during the twelfth century by the Canons Regular of Holyrood Abbey, it is also known as the Water of Leith Village. Dean Village Dean Village (dene means "deep valley" in Scots) was a prosperous hamlet for over 800 years. In the past, the area had eleven working mills on the strong currents of the city's river.
Trade in Dean Village diminished and the village soon fell into decay and abandonment especially during the second half of the twentieth century. Ten years later, the greenness, tranquillity and proximity of the hamlet to the city centre made this area extremely popular and plans to redevelop it were put into place. It quickly became one of the most sought-out residential parts of Edinburgh.

Political Maps, Our Article about Ensemble by Julie Mehretu
At Palazzo Grassi, open until January 6, 2025, the exhibition Ensemble by Julie Mehretu, curated by Caroline Bourgeois, has been inaugurated. Although it is a gigantic exhibition dedicated to Mehretu, Ensemble also features the presence of other artists (Nairy Baghramian / Huma Bhabha / Tacita Dean / David Hammons / Robin Coste Lewis / Paul Pfeiffer / Jessica Rankin). "Together" as an experience of one's own lived experience, the artist often emphasizes how her work has intersected from the beginning with the collective dimension and the relationship with other authors, but also as a political choice compared to the heroic singularity of the artist narrated by modernity, creating shared studios, relational spaces, works, precisely in dialogue. This approach not only manifests itself in the exhibited works but also in the text accompanying the exhibition and in the chronology of artistic events, which treats the involved artists without distinctions, overlapping the events of the artists, their respective exhibitions, the events that have succeeded them. Community, in this case, is also a destiny as almost all of them have experienced the necessity/choice of relocation from their country of origin, be it Ethiopia, Iran, or Pakistan. A generation of post-decolonization, which has experienced the failure of that modernity. Let's go point by point:
Julie Mehretu, (from left to right), Sun Ship (J.C.), 2018, Pinault Collection, Loop (B. Lozano, Bolsonaro eve), 2019-2020, Pinault Collection.
Installation view, “Julie Mehretu. Ensemble”, 2024, Palazzo Grassi, Venezia. Ph. Marco Cappelletti © Palazzo Grassi, Pinault Collection
We talk about abstract painting. Those who visit the exhibition and are not familiar with Mehretu will benefit from watching the documentary in the first cinema room where her story is told. The description of the complexity of the realization of her graphic work, which we fortunately find in the captions that shy away from the definition of mixed technique (instead citing lithography, aquatint, intaglio, and often all together), with the numerous group that tries and retries together with her the various techniques, the story of her gigantic work of which she illustrates the sources, seeing the superimposition of images from which some of her canvases start, allows us to look with more understanding at her work. A painting that is stratification, not material but of overlapping signs, playing to re-emerge, recalling others, alluding to experiences creating maps that appear in their intertwining, not on the surface nor in the background, in between.
Julie Mehretu, Desire was our breastplate, 2022-2023, Pinault Collection. Installation view, “Julie Mehretu. Ensemble”, 2024, Palazzo Grassi, Venezia. Ph. Marco Cappelletti © Palazzo Grassi, Pinault Collection
2. Political art. That a blotch of red color recalls the path of the Jewish exodus, that the background is a reworking/overlay of profiles of power palaces that are obsessively explored and submerged by traces, signs, brushstrokes investigating the Egyptian revolution, that the superimposition of photos of prisons is the object of a political vision. It's not as simple as we described it. It's not just about picking up symbols here and there and fitting them into the canvas network, otherwise it would simply be a matter of patience and deciphering the many references to solve the puzzle of the map and find the meaning. Mehretu, instead, in the accumulation of signs, documents, and traces of events, layers her own semiotics to tell migrations, dictatorships, inequalities. This accumulation is completed with the hand-painting by the artist, creating a new and self-sufficient space, with an alternative narrative that creates the conditions for a political critique that can be shared.

3. Evolution of perspective. The exhibited works cover 25 years of Mehretu's activity and, despite substantial continuity, clearly suggest stylistic and approach differences of the artist. Simply put, the monochrome that then colors and then picks up again. The idea of abandoning the wall in the series of Transpaintings, realized with sculptural structures supporting them made by the artist Nairy Baghramian. The palaces that exude their history, the images of dramatic events of contemporaneity so modified, superimposed, blurred to disappear, up to the opacity that does not transmit light nor hides a background, mark the mutation of the gaze towards the drama that persists, its reflection that matures, the new emergencies. All this on the traces of the titles of the works which, always from the introductory video we mentioned, we discover to be a part of the work, carefully chosen whether they speak of finance or exploitation
