Okay so there was some speculation because an account named "David Jenkins" started getting into the fun with everyone today (but not Chaos Dad's account). Many folks thought it was a bot that maybe somehow got attached to our trends, but I read back to when the account was created back in January and they've been around a bit. They've hopped on the bandwagon against WB for quite some time (for CoyoteVsAcme, etc) so it's still possible they're a bot, but hard to tell for sure. What did cause some excitement was Chaos Dad then blocked them.

I'm only going to be ranting about Deadloch for one more week - sorry and bear with me - but holy shit how smart this show is. I felt so pleased with myself for thinking I'd seen a big twist coming, and all along it was double bluffing me like a sucker, letting me think I was so damn clever while it ran rings round me.

Even cooler is how gradually it's led me from the kooky crackpot smalltown whodunnit I signed up for, with just a dash of gallows humor, to the stark, angry story of the many faces and tendrils of misogyny it was all along.

Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of humor and fun to stop it slipping into indigestible grimdark, but stuff like the interrogation scenes this week were not remotely fucking around, and all the moving parts that started finally fitting together and closing in around Dulcie & co felt like watching a huge, dangerous Rube Goldberg machine made of sexism start moving slowly and surely down the final track towards a bunch of neatly stacked dynamite.

And maybe I'm naïve, too, but I'm just the right level of thrilled about all the tension and drama, without really being worried the conclusion is going to leave me feeling shitty or cheated or purely bummed out, because it's so smartly dodged or subverted so many pitfalls to get here already.

All this from the writers of a 15 minute Youtube comedy cooking spoof???

I mean don't get me wrong, I loved it - Katering Show is fantastic - but this is an absolutely insane glow up, on par with Charlie Brooker moving from mean little spoof tv guide listings to San Junipero.

For God's sake, do not sleep on this show, and if you can catch up the 7 eps in time to speculate on the finale, even better.

Deadloch Speculation: Killer Edition, major spoilers to follow

Okay, so with the revelation that the killer's profile is that a man looking for validation, and also has access to vehicles owned by William Carruthers (possibly being will himself but we'll get to that). This implies that the man is someone who is friendly with the women of the time, unassuming, but also able to access the pentabarbatol. And so, here are my suspects with Pros and Cons to their likelyhood

William Carruthers

Evidence- He's named in the penultimate epsidoe, he's been a chekov's gun all season with his distictive shoe in the painting of him and Margaret being pointed out twice. It could be part of the subverseive comentary of the show that we Don't get to meet the killer before he's aprehended, or he might be going under another name and avoiding

Counter Arguement - We have not seen this man once outside of a painting. Could be the final red herring, does he exist or is Margrette using him as a smoke screen. (i've also seen some speculation that William is pre transition Margaret which while being a common trope in crime and horror fiction it still feeds into the 'trans/gnc psycho killer' trope and I don't think I want the Kate's to tackle that in the current political climate)

Ray 'Pies' McLintock

Evidence- Skye's best friend and works at the bakery. The male character who isn't an active shit cunt. we 'know' the most about him. Donkey was ill so could reasonably have needed pentabarbatol. it would be narratively devistating for the centeral cast if he were the killer, came to Deadloch 'looking for love'; perhaps this means female validation? Not for nothing he dresses like a fisherman

Counter Arguement - Seems to be unable to swim/swim confidently, wobbily access to the Carruther's family

Gez Rahme

Evidence: Organised the Movie at the lake on the day it happened and would be a hell of a coincidence for the bodies to come up during the movie, has easy access to Alyena's GP practice, In every episode of the show, seemingly very competant and just wants things to be chill for his wife? as one of the higher managers of the Feastaval he may have the easiest access to the Carruther's car.

Counter Arguement: the Actor who plays Gez is Trans masc, and while that can play with some of the gendered assumptions of the killer, it also falls into the same nasty transphobic tropes that has already been discussed with the William entery. Wants things to be chill for his wife.

James King

Evidence: physically fit (cyclist), seems to be willingly obtuse to how much HE'S been fucking over the investigation (tarp incident, not being clear about what's come up in the forensic reports), has access to the investigation and would be able to be 1 step ahead.

Counter Arguement: he barely seems to care about anyone other than himself so why would he kill the shithouse men in town?, also constantly stealing abby's ideas which seems to be in conflict with the idea that the killer wants to be acknowledged as this sorta white knight vigilante. Started being involved with Abby while she was his student at uni which while not illegal makes him a shit cunt with ethics that don't align with the killers appear to be. no known connection with the Carruthers siblings. Was in Perth at roughly the time the car would have been driven into the water.

Where I sit on all this

I think it's Ray. It makes the most sense and Eddie is gonna go off her tit at him and I think that'd be something the Kates would write. I also think there is a chance that Ray is somehow connected to the Carrruthers, possibly being William or William's son but that is much more tin-foily. I also think that James is in on it/ knows who it is but is keeping quiet for currently unknown reasons.

Please if anyone has any evidence or points to support or counter what i've listed please reply/respond! I'm really enjoying the mystery of the series

Deadloch spoilers/speculation

oh they're setting up Tom O'Dwyer as the next/last one to get killed.

So far every single person killed in this show has Done Wrong to women in the community - Cheating/ General Sex Pesting, Homophobia, Sexism, ect. They also are all connected to the footy club.

I've been wondering why we've been getting so much focus on the teen story line, beyond showing what kind of racist PoS Margret Caruthers is. i think this last scene with Tom O'Dwyer filming Tammy high before the recruiter gets there and ruining her chances of Getting Out on her own merit is setup for the last episode.

Tom has been getting fed this diet of Toxic Masculinty by his male peers and it stems from the culture of the footy club, while his mums are caught up with IVF, the feastavel, the murder, ect. I get why he act this way, but it's deeply troubling and sad to see how fast he has basically been radicalised against the women in his life. He hasn't bought any of it home, yet, but I think that once his mum gets exonerated (bc i dont think theres a why that she killed those lake bodies) he's gonna go off on one infront of everyone.

It would also be very High Stakes for Dulcie bc regardless of her fights with Skye and Cath, she is still Tom's godmother and the drama of him being the last almost victim is very juicy, and has a nice narative parallel with his grandfather being the first one to die.

Deadloch Speculation

Okay so Skye says to Dulcie in ep 3 after being told her dad is dead that 5 years ago she was in Sydney doing 'a shitton of cocaine'

we also know that she (and maybe Cath??) were in deadloch around the time of the death Sam O'Dwyer (and maybe also Mayor Dixon)

and we know that Joan from the markets (and local experimental film maker) sells weed gummies...

I think the 'deadcunt drug ring' might actually be the Lesbian Feastival drug ring. I also think it's largely seperate from the murders and it's gonna be why Skye was actually in Deadloch when her dad died.
