Sault Restaurant, Daylesford, Australia: The location is divine - fields of lavender, a lake, a chapel, stunning. Sault Restaurant is set behind a playing fountain in a beautiful two-storey country house, giving visitors the impression that they are deep within the heart of rural France. It is only when a kangaroo bounds into sight across a distant paddock that you realise you are well and truly in Australia. Sault Estate was named by the original owners, after a small French township renowned for its lavender, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of South-eastern France.. Daylesford is a town located in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, within the Shire of Hepburn, Victoria, Australia, approximately 114 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. Wikipedia

The best queer country festival!
Today’s blog is not about books or writing. Instead, I want to share news about our time in Daylesford for the Chill Out Festival, a queer event in rural Victoria which has been running for twenty-eight years. We attended this year. It’s one of several such festivals which follow the Sydney Mardi Gras in March, so tourists can continue to party elsewhere in Australia. A friend went two years ago…

The Rise of Traditional Japanese Reiki in Australia
While Western Reiki has dominated Australian practice for decades, there's been a significant shift toward traditional Japanese Reiki in recent years. This return to original techniques has created more depth and coherence in how Reiki is taught and practiced.
Traditional Japanese Reiki differs from its Western counterpart in significant ways. Where Western Reiki primarily focuses on hands-on healing, the Japanese system includes meditation techniques, mantras, symbols, and a philosophical framework that creates a complete spiritual practice.
This holistic approach is gaining traction in Reiki communities across Australia, from major centers like Melbourne and Brisbane to smaller regional areas.
Reiki in Different Australian Communities
Daylesford: A Natural Healing Haven
Daylesford's reputation as Australia's spa town makes it a natural fit for Reiki practice. The mineral springs and forest surroundings create an environment where energy work flows effortlessly. The Daylesford Reiki community benefits from this natural healing environment, with practitioners reporting that the area's energy enhances their Reiki sessions and training experiences.
Many Reiki students from nearby regions like Bendigo and Ballarat travel to Daylesford specifically for training, drawn by both the quality of instruction and the area's natural healing properties.
Brisbane: Sunshine and Healing Energy
The Brisbane Reiki community has grown significantly in recent years, with its relaxed lifestyle and abundant sunshine creating an ideal environment for energy work. Brisbane practitioners often note that the city's natural warmth seems to help students connect with Reiki energy more easily during initial training.
Regular Reiki share circles and practice groups in Brisbane have created a supportive community for both new students and experienced practitioners to deepen their skills.
Supporting Regional Communities
Smaller but growing Reiki communities exist in regional centers like Bendigo, Ballarat, Canberra, and Adelaide. These communities often maintain connections with larger training centers while developing their own unique approach to practice.
In Bendigo and Ballarat, the gold rush history has created cities with both historical depth and spiritual awareness, providing a unique backdrop for Reiki practice. Canberra's planned design and abundance of natural spaces create a distinctive energy that many practitioners find conducive to healing work, while Adelaide's creative culture infuses its Reiki community with an innovative approach.
Benefits of Learning Traditional Japanese Reiki
Understanding the benefits of traditional Japanese Reiki can help you decide if this healing path is right for you:
Physical and Emotional Balance
Reiki works to rebalance the body's energy system, which can lead to improvements in physical health and emotional wellbeing. By clearing energy blocks and replenishing depleted areas, Reiki helps create the conditions for the body to heal itself.
Unlike Western Reiki, which sometimes focuses primarily on specific problem areas, traditional Japanese Reiki takes a whole-system approach that addresses the root causes of imbalance.
Deepened Meditation Practice
The meditation techniques taught in traditional Japanese Reiki give practitioners tools to calm the mind and connect more deeply with their inner self. These meditations, like "joshin kokyu ho" (breathing into the hara), provide practical methods for finding peace amid the chaos of daily life.
Protection from Negative Energy
One significant benefit that attracts many to traditional Japanese Reiki is its ability to help practitioners stay grounded and protected from the negative energy of others. Through techniques that strengthen the hara (energy center below the navel), students learn to maintain their energetic boundaries while still remaining open and compassionate.
This skill proves invaluable for anyone who feels easily affected by the mood or energy of others—whether at work, home, or in public spaces.
Integration with Daily Life
Perhaps the most valuable aspect of traditional Japanese Reiki is how it integrates into everyday life. Rather than being just a technique you practice occasionally, it becomes a way of being. The five Reiki precepts (principles) provide a philosophical framework that guides practitioners toward greater awareness and compassion in all their interactions.
Finding Quality Reiki Training
When looking for Reiki training in any Australian location, consider these factors:
Lineage - Does the teacher have a clear lineage back to Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki?
Teaching approach - Does the course cover all aspects of Reiki, including meditation and the precepts, or just hands-on healing?
Support materials - What kind of manuals, videos, or other resources are provided to help you continue your practice after the course?
Post-course support - Is there a program to help you integrate what you've learned, or are you on your own after the weekend?
Community - Will you have access to a community of practitioners for ongoing support and practice?
Connect with Reiki in Your Region
If you're drawn to learning Reiki, reach out to established teachers in your area. The Om Reiki Centre offers award-winning courses in Melbourne, Daylesford, and Brisbane, with a focus on traditional Japanese techniques. Their courses include comprehensive manuals, pre and post-course support programs, and access to exclusive video portals and resources.
For those in regions like Bendigo, Ballarat, Canberra, and Adelaide, looking up local Reiki share circles can provide a good introduction to the practice and help you connect with trained practitioners who might recommend quality training options.
No matter where you begin your Reiki journey, remember that the most important factor is finding a teacher and approach that resonates with you personally. Trust your intuition—it's the same skill you'll be developing through your Reiki practice.

ChillOut celebrates all ages under the rainbow with their Youth Muster
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/chillout-celebrates-all-ages-under-the-rainbow-with-youth-muster/
ChillOut celebrates all ages under the rainbow with their Youth Muster
Get ready to celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community in the Hepburn Shire, as ChillOut brings space for all ages to celebrate their pride.
ChillOut is Australia’s largest and longest-running regional pride festival.
Celebrated on the Labour Day long weekend spa country turns into pride country, amplifying regional pride through the Hepburn Shire.
With a host of events, Daylesford is once again transformed into a beacon of pride where everyone has a space to celebrate their authentic selves.
The Youth Muster in the Park is one such event where youth, their allies, friends and families can come together in a safe and inclusive space.
“The Youth Muster is an extremely important feature on the ChillOut events calendar,” ChillOut President Matt Clarke said,
“The committee works hard to ensure that it’s an event that remains there.”
“Generally, regional youth are isolated from many activities and experiences purely because of location.
“Travelling to any event in a capital city is costly.
“Event ticket costs, transport, and accommodation all become quite stressful and are often the final factor in whether they attend.”
“Being a young queer person in regional Victoria adds further layers of complexities.
“As often being out or proud of who they are can come with bullying and violence.”

Discussions, Drag Storytime & more.
This year the free event returns to Victoria Park with live music, drag artists, a rainbow family picnic and more.
Hosted by Nate Byrne and Frock Hudson, a panel discussion will include former AFL player and coach Danielle Laidley.
As well as Victorian Commissioner for LGBTQIA+ Communities Joe Ball and Minus18.
Plus former country kid, trans activist and sports fan Austin Fabry-Jenkins.
Keeping the family-friendly fun going, the Youth Muster is followed by Drag Storytime hosted by Frock Hudson and Gabriella Labucci.
They understand the importance of regional pride.
“Drag story time gives children some entertainment through story and costume,” Labucci said,
“With the amount of bigoted opinions surrounding it, it’s important that we continue to be present,
“And show the youth that there is nothing wrong with being exactly who they are.
“Drag has been around children for years!
“Take Mrs Doubtfire for example, the last scene of the movie sees Mrs Doubtfire hosting a TV show for children!”
Creating affordable and accessible events is important, but comes with a different set of challenges in regional areas.
That’s why the ChillOut committee feel that events such as the Youth Muster are so important.
“ChillOut is so proud of its regional roots and is well known across the queer events calendar, but it is also a majority ticketed event.”
“There are costs to attend events over the weekend.
“So once again, young queer people living regionally are faced with financial challenges.”

Young people deserve affirming & welcoming spaces.
“The creation of the Youth Muster is all about providing an event directly focused on youth, their friends, allies and families,
“By creating a free day during ChillOut that is welcoming, safe and supportive.
“We want to make sure that young people can experience the joy of ChillOut without financial burden.
“We also know that there are young people who are not out, who are on their journey of finding themselves and their tribe.
“So to have the Youth Muster in an outdoor space allows those who are feeling a little unsure, a little unsafe, to view the space and the event from their comfortable zone.
“And then decide if they want to walk through and join in.
“It’s important that our young future leaders and advocates can have a positive and enjoyable experience at ChillOut,
“Setting foundations for hopefully a brighter life.”
With the Parade and Carnival, the following Day, there’s plenty of pride to be celebrated for everyone at ChillOut,
So come join us in Daylesford as we celebrate every age under the rainbow.
Join the ChillOut Festival in Daylesford from the 6th to the 10th of March.
The Youth Muster takes place from 11 am-3 pm, followed by Drag Storytime.
Find out about all the event details and book your tickets here.

On our second day of our mini vacation, we spontaneously decide to board a tourist attraction, it took us to places we would not normally see. I think I found a few spots worthy of a revisit with a film camera.
This is one such place.
