Fleetway Picture Library Classics Presents Jet-Ace Logan (graphic novel review)
Fleetway Picture Library Classics Presents Jet-Ace Logan (graphic novel review)
I have to confess that I haven’t heard of ‘Jet-Ace Logan’ but am aware of one of its artists Ron Turner who drew the final two stories in this volume. The first two are drawn by German artist Kurt Caesar. Only the third story has a writer acknowledgement for David Motton.
If you thought someone being called ‘Jet-Ace’ was odd, his wingman is named Plum-Duff Charteris, presumably for his liking…

Sofistikovaný a kultivovaný i20 se dodává s mnoha atraktivními prvky výbavy, včetně parkovacích senzorů, panoramatického střešního okna, navigačního systému s dotykovým displejem a řady vyspělých zážehových motorů.

NWFA Round 6 Preview
For NWFA clubs West Ulverstone and East Ulverstone, Saturday’s annual Dean Mott Cup match will be more than just another game of football and premiership points.
Played as a tribute to the late Dean Mott, who spent time at both clubs, West Ulverstone will host a match that takes on a grand final standing for the two intra – town teams. Since the inaugural match in 2007, West Ulverstone’s sole success was two years later, but the Lions cannot be discounted from holding the silverware aloft on Saturday.
Success has been thin on the ground for both teams this year, but West’s coach Nick Thompson has playmakers Damian Hall, Tyler Bakes and Zaine Cocks capable of bringing the cup drought to an end. East Ulverstone’s only win was their season opener against Spreyton, 15.15 (105) to 10.9 (69) and since then have struggled against the top sides.
Nevertheless, East have been the dominant team since the inaugural match in 2007, winning every year apart from 2009 when the Lions scored a memorable win on their home ground, coupled with Clayton Tongs’ Burgess – Mott Medal win as best afield. He was the first of the Lion’s two medal winners. In 2015, Dylan French became the only winner in a losing team. And East Ulverstone are also expected to include last year’s medal winner Jay Burton.
The Dean Mott Cup winners have been –
2016 East Ulverstone 36.18 (234) d West Ulverstone 2.1 (13), 2015 East Ulverstone 29.17 (191) d West Ulverstone 7.6 (48), 2014 East Ulverstone 19.10 (124) d West Ulverstone 16.7 (103), 2013 East Ulverstone 22.11 (143) d West Ulverstone 14.13 (97), 2012 East Ulverstone 26.27 (183) d West Ulverstone 6.3 (39), 2011 East Ulverstone 21.19 (145) d West Ulverstone 8.8 (56), 2010 East Ulverstone 18.10 (118) d West Ulverstone 10.13 (73) 2009 West Ulverstone 12.9 (81) d East Ulverstone 9.10 (64), 2008 East Ulverstone 28.17 (185) d West Ulverstone 6.8 (44), 2007 East Ulverstone d West Ulverstone (scores unavailable)
The medal winners have been -
2016 Jay Burton (East Ulverstone), 2015 Dylan French (West Ulverstone), 2014 Brody Ling (East Ulverstone), 2013 Brody Ling (East Ulverstone), 2012 Ken Vanderfeen (East Ulverstone), 2011 David Vanderfeen (East Ulverstone), 2010 Matthew Clarke (East Ulverstone), 2009 Clayton Tongs (West Ulverstone), 2008 Brody Ling (East Ulverstone), 2007 Aiden Jackson (East Ulverstone).
One match in which premiership points will be a factor is on Sunday, when Turners Beach takes it aspirations to Forth in the hope of bringing the high – flying Magpies back to earth. The defending premiers Forth have made a positive start to the season, winning each of their five matches and Turners Beach are showing signs of improving on their 3 -1 record as coach David Enright starts to shape his team into one making progress.
Another of the competition’s unbeaten teams, Wesley Vale, should have the upper hand at Pipers Park against a Spreyton combination still in the infancy of a rebuild. In comparison last year’s grand finalists have provided passages of play that bodes well for another shot at a premiership, as coach Shane Hefford swaps players around looking for the versatility in a team that is only three weeks away from showdown with Forth.
Spreyton’s search for players to lift them up the ladder continued during the week with the inclusion of Eli Sheean (Devonport) and Jake Harris (Latrobe) and head to Wesley Vale intend on making a better first of things than they did against the ladder leader Forth last Saturday.
And it’s a similar scenario at Sheffield, where their coach Nathan Applebee is stabilising the Robins after their difficult 2016. His expectations will be to at least provide a contest against Motton Preston, backing up after their 245 – point defeat of West Ulverstone last weekend.
Despite the loss of some experience from the team this year, the Motton Preston showed they are still a team to be reckoned with after pushing Wesley Vale to the limit a fortnight ago, dispelling any thoughts that a lean period could be on the horizon.
In the reserve’s competition player availability continues to be of concern for some clubs and the turnover is making life a bit difficult for coaches. Not even the ladder leader Wesley Vale is immune, but at least appears to have a mortgage on their match against Spreyton. With several premiership players, including Greg Sheen and Josh Papworth, forming the backbone of the combination, the Kangaroos should retain top spot on the ladder.
Motton Preston have lost the services of Ian Swain to South Burnie, and they are by no means over the line against Sheffield. Deon Heyward continues to be a reliable goal - kicker with seven for Sheffield against West Ulverstone, while Ryan Patterson, Ben Corbett and Matthew Knight have been accumulating possessions.
East Ulverstone should start the Dean Mott Cup day on a winning note against West Ulverstone, who have struggled to be competitive. East have reliable goal scorers Matt Talbot (14), Tevin Brown (7) and Cody Guest (6) at their disposal and that should be enough to give the Crows their third win and hang onto fifth spot on the ladder.
Sunday’s 11am match at Forth is one in which the Magpies and Turners Beach will be playing to consolidate their spots in the top five. The second placed Forth have been strengthened by the return of last year’s senior premiership player Jai Moyle and Daniel Morse has added consistency to the Magpies since his move from East Ulverstone, while two of the competition’s leading goal scorers Daniel Oates (33) and Adam Garwood (22), could give the home side a winning edge.
West Ulverstone’s David Fitzpatrick (on ground) continues to try his best in an underperforming team.
The Turners Beach reserve’s full back Robert Nielsen outmarks Forth’s Adam Smith, in a 2016 match.
East Ulverstone’s Russell Davies (2) in action during the 2013 Dean Mott Cup match. He will be back in action on Saturday defending the goals for the Crows.

It’s the latter space hero who’s the focus of Fleetway Comics Archives: Complete Comet Jet-Ace Logan, just published by Book Palace…
