They deadass give you the option to get back all the Ambrosia you gave Dusa. They aren’t even trying to pretend they didn’t bait and switch you. Holy shit.

The Rings of Power - Quickie
It might not be the most daring or inventive IP out there, but I'd say even this deserves better than what I've seen in some comments around the wider Web. The craziest of them all would have to be that The Rings of Power is the product of organized loxism, which is typically defined as the organized and militant opposition to - you guessed it - White, Anglo-Saxon Gentiles - as expressed by the Jewish diaspora.
No, you fucking 8Chan rejects, The Rings of Power does not fail because it doesn't respect your meninism - and yes, I'm using this term mockingly, here - it mostly fails because it doesn't have a single original bone in its body. It's aggressively fine as an entertainment project and I'll be the first to commend its production values, but I'm left wondering who seriously needed another shot at star-crossed lovers and long, bloated and self-important narrative scaffolding put in place à la David Benioff and designed to lead to a payoff only seasons away from now.
Black Queen Dusa? Zero objections with her, or with Arondir being Black. Some Tolkien zealots think there's no possible way we could modernize the racial tones without somehow tainting the original works, to whom I'd retort that there was a whole lot more to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance than just a gaggle of Whites waging wars. If anything, my objections rest with the idea of using Tolkien to tell stories we've seen before in dozens of prior iterations.
It's a fine enough show in-concept, but there's nothing new there.

-Work in progress-
So the background is kicking my butt but here’s two No Straight Roads Ocs David and Mel Dusa, a Medusa like Vaporwave icon and their stand in Persona/ stage presence David statue. Mel doesn’t perform on stage due to toxic fans and instead prefers to be behind the curtain out of view. But when BBJ hijacks the rehearsal of her concert and knocks the David out its down to her to defeat them so her true identity isn’t outed.

Chiar si cu ochii inchisi, ii simtea prezenta in incapere. Ma rog, o varianta mult mai in varsta a sa.
“Innebunesc, asta e clar!” si-a zis ea si a inchis ochii. Apoi a disparut. “Iris! Ivy! Trezirea! David a venit!” i-a zambit si l-a imbratisat in graba. “Buna, David! Pa, David! Ma grabesc! Sunt in intarziere! Fa-te comod! Ivy coboara imediat!” “Bafta azi! Ah, si iubitul tau e jos! Grabeste-te!”

“Like All Good Stories, It Starts with Pigeons”
On this episode of our podcast My Favourite Theorem, my cohost Kevin Knudson and I have been blissful to speak with Suresh Venkatasubramanian, who's within the laptop science division on the College of Utah. You may hear right here or at kpknudson.com, the place there's additionally a transcript. Dr. Venkatasubramanian likes to explain himself as a bias detective or computational thinker. One of many important focuses of his work previously few years has been on algorithmic bias, the concept that algorithms can reinforce human prejudices. I talked with him for an article I wrote about algorithmic bias for the youngsters's science journal Muse, which can also be obtainable right here, and yow will discover one in all his current papers about algorithmic equity right here. He selected to speak about Fano's inequality, which is vital to his work however has functions rather more broadly in laptop science and statistics. Fano's inequality begins as all good tales do, Dr. Venkatasubramanian says, with pigeons. Particularly, the pigeonhole precept, the intuitively apparent proven fact that if the variety of pigeonholes is smaller than the variety of pigeons you've gotten, a minimum of two pigeons will share one pigeonhole. He describes the way in which the pigeonhole precept varieties the muse for a number of different observations that underlie many decrease bounds in laptop science, together with Fano's inequality. (In laptop science, a typical purpose is to discover a decrease sure for the variety of steps in an algorithm: is there a theoretical minimal period of time it may well take?) Fano's inequality is concerning the quantity of entropy, or uncertainty, in a relationship between two variables. Dr. Venkatasubramanian used the instance of American Caucasian names and genders. Few if any individuals named Nancy are males, and few if any individuals named David are ladies, however there are honest numbers of each women and men (and other people of different genders) named Dylan. So if an algorithm needs to foretell an individual's gender primarily based on their title, it's extra more likely to get it proper if the title is Nancy or David than whether it is Dylan. Fano's inequality makes that, once more intuitively apparent, commentary exact. It places limits on how precisely an algorithm can predict a variable x primarily based on a variable y, primarily based on the uncertainty within the perform that associates these two variables. For extra particulars on Fano's inequality, see Dr. Venkatasubramanian's submit about it right here. A extra superior introduction, by Bin Yu, is right here (pdf). In every episode of the podcast, we ask our visitor to pair their theorem with meals, beverage, artwork, music, or any enjoyment of life. Dr. Venkatasubramanian picked goat cheese and jalapeno jelly. You may should hearken to the episode to search out out why it is the proper accompaniment for Fano's inequality. (For many who wish to see the new pepper-eating orchestra I point out within the episode, the video is right here. However why would you need that?) You will discover Dr. Venkatasubramanian at his web site and on Twitter. He and a few of his colleagues weblog about their work and associated points at Algorithmic Equity. You will discover extra details about the mathematicians and theorems featured on this podcast, together with different pleasant mathematical treats, at kpknudson.com and right here at Roots of Unity. also still not sure how to answer the question ‘do you have permission from the people who manage the stage area’ because i dont fucking know who manages the stage. does dusa manage the stage????? i have NO fucking idea. im ASSUMING that will be covered by whatever in fuck the security thing ends up being, like if i end up going up talking to them about it ill be like ‘heeyyyyy so like. do i need permission for the stage. if so where do i get that permission?’ and then ill go ‘... do i need permission to just set up on the regular walk? not in the way, just off to the side, between benches, maybe in front of the fountain’
honesty it might be easier to go in and do this shit myself but making that decision at 1am aint wise so we’ll wait until i hear from david, hopefully he sends me something before i wake the fuck up at noon or whatever so i can just continue on????? i THINK he had the info so hopefully we’re like... good? i dont remember if i told him i planned to use the stage (since i originally wasnt) so like... ? ehhhhhhhh ill write this email we’ll leave it in draft ill send it at noon or so to be like ‘hey bro whats Up’

Recipients of Royal Society medals and awards in 2018 announced
The Royal Society announces the winners of 24 medals and awards. The annual prizes recognise exceptional researchers who make outstanding contributions to science.
Brian Foster, Vice President of the Royal Society, said: “The Royal Society has a long-standing tradition of identifying and celebrating the best and brightest scientists. The winners of this year’s medals and awards have all made outstanding contributions to their field. I congratulate them for their distinguished work and their contribution to the advancement of science as a whole.”
Stephen Sparks FRS receives the Royal Medal for his contributions to our understanding of volcanoes, including evaluating their risks and mitigating their hazards. The Royal Medals are one of the Royal Society’s premier awards and are made on behalf of the Queen each year. Awarded annually since 1825, this year’s recipients of the Royal Medals join the ranks of Fred Sanger, Max Perutz and Francis Crick.
Stephen Sparks FRS said: “It is a huge honour for a geologist to receive the Royal Medal which covers all of the physical sciences. The Medal recognises the importance of field work, often in wild and remote places, and the inductive method in the natural sciences. Modern geology requires interdisciplinary research and I have been privileged to have worked with outstanding colleagues in the mathematical and physical sciences.”
Also receiving the Royal Medal is Lewis Wolpert CBE FRS for his research on morphogenesis and pattern formation that led to the concept of positional information in embryonic development. His work has enabled us to understand how cells do the right thing in the right place as an embryo grows.
Lewis Wolpert CBE FRS said: “Getting the Royal Society medal is thrilling and almost unbelievable, a true honour. I am very grateful. It justifies years of very hard work. My research might help in preventing abnormal embryo development, particularly in humans.”
Shankar Balasubramanian FMedSci FRS and David Klenerman FMedSci FRS are jointly awarded the third and final Royal Medal for their co-development of DNA sequencing techniques transforming biology and genomic medicine.
Shankar Balasubramanian FMedSci FRS said: “I feel hugely honoured to be awarded the Royal Medal and it is humbling to see the previous recipients. I am deeply thankful to the many co-workers and collaborators who have made my scientific explorations so enjoyable and fruitful and continue to do so.”
David Klenerman FMedSci FRS added: “The development of Solexa sequencing was a massive team effort and would not have been possible without the collective contribution of a wide number of highly talented individuals. I am delighted that this achievement has been recognised by this award.”
The Croonian Medal and Lecture is awarded to Kay Davies DBE FMedSci FRS for her achievements in developing a prenatal test for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and her work on characterizing dystrophin related proteins. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a progressive muscle wasting disease which affects mostly boys, who often need wheelchairs at about 12 years of age and die in their twenties, usually from respiratory or cardiac problems. There is currently no effective treatment. Kay’s work has resulted in treatments poised to transform the lives of an estimate 250,000 patients worldwide.
Edward Hinds FRS is awarded the Bakerian Medal and Lecture for his achievements in controlling individual atoms, molecules and photons. Edward’s research has focused on how to use quantum systems to make the most sensitive measuring devices possible, and how to use these devices to investigate the nature of quantum systems more deeply.
The Sylvester Medal is awarded to Dusa McDuff FRS for her pioneering role in the development of the new field of symplectic geometry and topology. Her outstanding work includes many fundamental theorems and she has been inspirational for generations of mathematicians.
Emma Chapman, member of the campaign organisation The 1752 Group has been awarded the Royal Society Athena Prize 2018 in the individual category for driving nationally impactful policy changes concerning sexual harassment issues in higher education.
